What if you could find serenity in the midst of the bustling gaming world? Legendary YouTuber Marathon Gaming, known as Scott, joins us for a tranquil escape from the usual gaming news chaos. We embark on a journey through personal gaming experiences, starting with the soothing narrative of "Lake" on PlayStation Plus. Our conversation takes a playful twist as we explore how the slow-paced life of a postwoman offers a unique storytelling approach reminiscent of Telltale's classics, while we also share our mixed emotions about the game's deliberate pacing.

From the retro charm of the Evercade to the modern allure of the Nintendo Switch, our gaming adventures know no bounds. Scott and I revel in the discovery of hidden arcade gems like Battle Chopper and Lightning Swords, praising the Evercade for bringing these treasures to light. Our enthusiasm extends to the Arkham Batman trilogy on the Switch, where enhanced performance amplifies the handheld experience. Collaborative fun takes center stage as we recount the strategic joys of playing Stardew Valley in co-op mode, a testament to the enduring appeal of teamwork in gaming.

Our love for games spans a multitude of genres, from the vast open worlds of "Red Dead Redemption" to the spine-chilling thrills of "Resident Evil." We dive into the nostalgia of the "GTA Trilogy" and the immersive horror of "Until Dawn," sharing unforgettable moments that have left a lasting mark on our gaming memories. As the episode concludes, we celebrate the rich tapestry of gaming history with personal anecdotes, heartfelt game recommendations, and a deep appreciation for the diverse experiences that make gaming such an extraordinary journey. Join us for an engaging listen that promises to resonate with every gaming enthusiast.

Lake - A Relaxing Adventure Game

Speaker 1

George and Seb rolling down the road RGT , riding , shotgun , a heavy load , pastor Longhorn waiting to unfold An El Paso , texas tale's been told , one-armed , big , being a sight to see .

Speaker 2

Oh my head . Why is the light hurt in my eyes ? I can't remember what happened . A little bit of a bump . Last thing I remember I was in the back of the cupboard . Longhorn wanted me to clean up at the high , hard-to-reach areas and then I tripped over and then I saw about Pirate Pete and gallivanting around Europe .

I can't quite remember what RGT Is that you , hello Scott ? How ?

Speaker 3

are you ? How are you doing ? I'm all right . How are you ? You look a bit worse for wear .

Speaker 2

I am a bit worse for wear my fluffy little pumpkin .

Speaker 3

What's that lamp on your head ?

Speaker 2

it's which , that one that's been there a long while , but this one , this is , I'm not sure I've definitely fallen over . I feel a bit . I feel a bit concussed , a bit dizzy , I'm not quite sure .

Speaker 3

On the reality , of what's real or what isn . Am I a figment of your imagination ?

Speaker 2

I'm sure you're here . I can see you , I can smell you . You smell like fish and chips .

Speaker 3

I'm definitely here . Then , how are you ? I'm very well , how are you ? Not too bad , not too bad , good , good , good , good . Well , hello everyone and welcome .

This is the unofficial controller podcast , your weekly gaming podcast , and it's me , as you've already heard , rgt and joined by the absolutely legendary youtuber , marathon gaming , aka scott , and we're here to do a , I'd say , a little special show this week . Wouldn't you say scott ? Yeah , something a little bit different , something a little bit show this week .

Wouldn't you say Scott ? Yeah , nice , something a little bit different .

Speaker 2

Something a little bit different , something which may have been done before and , I'm sure , something we'll probably repeat in a year's time , because it's one of those things that could evolve and change . Oh , definitely , yeah , it's not one of those things that's set in stone and , as we discussed , pre-show of what we was going to talk about .

I'm sure while we're talking now , I'll think of other things and I'll see things in a corner of the room and go why didn't I think of that ?

Speaker 3

Yeah , I know it's always the way with these and it's always the way . But yeah , I mean we won't be doing any news this week because at the moment , it always just seems to be bad news with gaming going on , with games and consoles and companies and bits and pieces to one side , and , uh , you know we'll , we'll try this .

Um , we hope you'll like it , I think , uh , it was good fun doing this and writing this , so I think you'll enjoy this . But first of all , before we go any further , I think I need to start by saying , scott , what you've been playing I've actually been playing a hell of a lot of games recently .

Speaker 2

Um , I've been dabbling on different systems , a few games on my switch , um , juggling lots of different games . So I'll start off with what I've been playing most recently um and this would be a good one , as you're on with me today is lake . Um , I played it most recently , even yesterday . I know that you've completed the game .

Yes , so I was playing it via the playstation plus because I just logged on and got that subscription about a week ago , and that's why I've been playing so many different games . Literally like 10-15 minutes of anything I get my teeth into um , but I started playing lake and then I'll play it for like an hour or half an hour . I'll um .

Anyone who's not familiar it , there's sort of a bit of a how do you describe it ? Adventure game . I suppose a very unique adventure game . It's sort of a story narrative yeah .

Speaker 3

Story driven yeah , definitely a story sort of adventure . Graphically it reminds me a bit of the Telltale , walk and Dead games . It's got that sort of aesthetic to it , the almost yeah , I've got cell shaded sort of um style to it . But , yeah , I know , yeah , fellow presenter bobby didn't like this game , but I love this game .

I think it's just so relaxing , that game .

Speaker 2

Yeah , so that's that's why I want to talk about , because I've been sort of bit of two minds of it . So I keep going back to it . So I'll play it for like an hour half an hour , play another game , then I go back to it .

So I play it for like an hour half an hour , play another game , then I go back to it , then the next day I go back to it . So you're basically a sort of post lady . She's got a lot of stress on in a big city . She goes to stay at her parents' house .

They do a bit of an almost like not a house swap , but they go into the city from where they live , takes up her dad's duties of being a postman . She sees a different walk of life .

You meet different characters , um , and basically you have your rounds in a day , so you deliver your post and then there's a bit of characters you meet and you decide what you're doing that evening from the dialogue and choices you make and decisions , and then that shapes the evening and that's how the story develops .

So I'll sort of play no more than two rounds , like two days . So you play it , play it each day , but I'm quite far into it and I'm in two minds . At one minute I think , oh no , it's getting a bit , because obviously we've been talking off-air and between shows and I keep saying , oh , at one point it's making me depressed .

The next minute I'm really enjoying just the calmness of it . Then I find myself stressed , trying to meet everyone's expectations and trying to commit to being everyone's friend and doing everything . And now at a point in the game , like yesterday , it was so funny . I've got to a point now where I'm quite far in .

I don't want to spoil it too much , but there's evidently it's even in the trailer there's a decision to make to stay or to go . And I'm at that point where I keep beating around the bush , not answering the questions of relationships and work and what I'm going to do , where , where I'm going to settle down and I literally got put on the spot .

Yesterday I was asked to return to my post headquarters . It said are you going to stay or are you going to go ? Do you know what I did ? I turned the PlayStation 5 off because I couldn't face making a decision . I really don't know what to do , so I'm hoping the listeners can help me . I don't know if anyone's played the game .

Speaker 3

I'll give you a little hint . I'll give you a little hint Make sure to do a safe place there , because if you want to go for the platinum , you'll need to make both decisions , if I remember rightly . I'll play it again .

Speaker 2

I'll play it again . I've really enjoyed it . There's so much I could talk about for ages and I've talked about it in a couple of videos , so I won't go on too much . But yeah , it is . It is a really good game . It's very , very different . I sort of describe it as Firewatch , because it's one of those adventure games .

Speaker 3

Oh yeah , it's got that vibe yeah .

Speaker 2

I don't know how to categorise it , it's so unique . I don't even know what genre it is .

Speaker 3

You know it's one of those ones . I think for me , when I played it , I think the reason I liked it so much was because I think I was coming off the back of a rpg . So sometimes me and george always say you need a little calm and palate cleanser before you get into the next big game . And this was good , and I'll tell you what else .

This reminds me of almost like , if not in gameplay as such , but storyline it reminded me of a sort of a 3d cel-shaded stardew valley , and the reason I say that is because you're getting out of the big city , you come into the country and then it's like living your life .

Do you go for the big city life or do you go for the big , you know , for the , yeah , calm and air and that . And that reminds me the start of stardew valley . So it's not a 3d version of that , yeah , but yeah , I I really enjoyed that game . I love that game yeah , I'm enjoying it .

Speaker 2

It's slow , but I'm enjoying it for what it is . I even texted you yesterday . I've had a bit of a stressful week at work . Yesterday I was playing it in the evening and then I was driving around . I turned the music off you can turn the radio off . I was listening to the rain beating the windshield and I was just thinking this is nice , this is the life .

You are ups and downs a bit but that is life . It's got that vibe yeah , yeah , it really has . Um , but other than that , I've been yeah , I mean it's without naming every single game . I mean george would be absolutely creaming his cheddar cheese biscuits over this one . So I've even played mlb the show . So he'll be , he'll be excited for that one .

But yeah , I've played lots of different games on the playstation plus um , I haven't played any of days gone or the witcher for a little while I did , since the last show I've been on I had played Ghost of Tsushima or Satsuma , how I pronounce it . I've also played yeah , a couple of . I've got a few super rare backlog games as well .

So I've got Grime , which I did play a little bit of on PlayStation Plus , and then Cassette Beast beast , which I am playing currently on a switch as well . So , yeah , lots of games , um , lots of different ones , but lake sort of the main stand out in the last few days . Um , for me , what about yourself ?

Speaker 3

um , well , before we get into me , I did see your video you've done on the conscript oh see , it's another one . So that's another one I forgot I didn't even know about this game . I'm like you . I'm a bit of a fanboy of Team 17 . Yeah , same , they seem to be publishing and finding these games . It's always seemed to come out Good price on Switch .

They seem to be . I know you can get them on other platforms , but it's just them . Team 17 games just seem to be right on the switch . They seem to be a switch game . Do you know what I mean ? Yeah , and they're so unique , a lot of these titles they do on there , and I keep thinking .

Or when I saw your video yesterday I was thinking oh , I might have to pick that up .

Speaker 2

Exactly right , don't miss it , I'm the same . It's not like dredge ship of falls , and I think that's how I saw conscripts , because I was , you know . You know like your phone listens to you , you the algorithm . So I think it just kept on coming up with Team 17 games .

And that came up and I saw it and just to describe it , in 20 seconds it's basically a sort of Resident Evil , sort of top-down pixelated survival horror , but set in France in like 1916 , world War I trenches , and it's genius of what it is . I don't think I've seen anything like it before and it looks very , very good . Obviously , I just played a film .

If anyone wants to check the video , they can check it out . I put it on YouTube not too long ago but it's very good , very , very hard . But I need to play some more time on it . But just juggling so many games , there's too many games and then not enough time . That is the problem .

Speaker 3

Yeah , I think that's something I'm going to have to pick up . I think , because I've been playing quite a few of their games and they just seem to get so many unique titles that they publish . That's worth picking up isn't it ?

Speaker 2

If you're really here I mean , I don't know how hard I've hit my head if this is the hospital room or if I'm still in Longhorn's basement , but if you are back in the cult , then obviously I could just sling my copy across the room and you can play it here .

Speaker 3

Yeah , perfect , yeah , perfect . Then you'll find out if I am here or not . If you throw it and it just goes straight through me , then maybe I'm not Straight through the wall .

Speaker 2

The fourth and the fifth wall .

Speaker 3

So is that all you've been playing then , Scott

[Ad] Call Me By Your Game

?

Speaker 2

I would say so because there's been so many games that I've played just briefly , so otherwise I'll be waffling on for way too long .

Speaker 3

Yeah

(Cont.) Lake - A Relaxing Adventure Game

, Right on to me then . I've been playing quite a bit of Evercade at the moment .

Speaker 2

Have you tried the Tomb Raider , one on the Evercade or the Legacy of ? Was it the new ones or just some older titles ?

Speaker 3

I've been buying various ones . I've been playing various ones . Now , the games I'm actually playing , I can't remember what cartridge they're on , whether it's Data East or Interplay , or I just can't remember .

Speaker 2

Oh , so more of the indie games . I haven't tried the Tomb .

Speaker 3

Raider yet . The only reason I haven't tried the Tomb Raider yet , the only reason I haven't tried the Tomb Raider yet and I know I'm probably being a bit wimpy , but it's because it's

Evercade and Gaming Adventures

the PS1 port , which is still a good port , but it's got the tank controls and I'm a bit ooh with the tank controls .

Speaker 2

Yeah , I thought you could turn them off . I'm pretty sure I saw .

Speaker 1

Switch up there , but you can't on the Evercade .

Speaker 3

Yeah , because Evercade is whether they might . They might add that because you can update your Evercade . They might add that as an update . So if I do that , then I might have to go to the modern controls . I know it's not the original way to play , but it's with my old hands . Now tank controls are quite a minefield .

Speaker 2

Well , evercade , if you're listening , if you're listening Evercade , please change that for RGT .

Speaker 3

Yeah , give us a little update , a little firmware update .

Speaker 2

And we'll send you a mug .

Speaker 3

Yeah , I'm talking about you every week . You know week week , nudge , nudge . But yeah , I've been playing . I found a game on there called Battle Chopper , which is like a have you ever played Fantasy Zone ?

Speaker 2

That definitely rings a bell ? Was that definitely rings a bell ? Is that in the Mega Drive Fantasy ?

Speaker 3

Zone . Yeah , in Masters that's on a lot of things . It's like a yeah , they call it a cute-em-up . So it's like a little cute sort of shoot-em-up where you go left and right on the screen and you collect certain things and you upgrade your bombs and bits and pieces . Brilliant soundtrack , brilliant little game . It's something system a lot .

Well , this battle chopper is like a more grown-up version of fantasy zone . So you , you shoot these blocks , you get diamonds , which is up currency , and then you can upgrade your weapons and you go through levels . The only thing I struggled with there is a timer on the level .

So and I'm not a great fan of timers because you , you can't explore too much because you obviously pushed against time . Um , but great little arcade game and this is another reason why I like . The other cake is just , you know , most of these being arcade ports , you wouldn't have played them otherwise .

Speaker 2

Yeah , yeah , yeah that's great that might have even been 87 , I think . So it must have been an arcade vertical , sorry horizontal shooter , I'm assuming yeah , and you can go up and down in levels as well .

Speaker 3

Some are different . You've got bosses yeah it's , it's really , it's really unique , very good . I'd say I'd best describe it as a bit more of a bigger boys fantasy zone .

And also , I've been playing I've nearly finished Lightning Swords on Evercade , which is like side scrolling left to right sword game pretty basic , but I'd say an early , earlier arcade game , or say early nins , late 80s , probably say late 80s , um , but really good fun , something I've never played before .

Um , pretty much not a very basic sort of shinobi , I'd say very sort of basic shinobi , but good fun . Um , and because on this , because these are the arcade roms they even start like you start on the arcade machine so you get rom , okay , ram okay , then that goes and then you can add credits . So you just stick 100 credits in and you can draw um .

So yeah , I've been really enjoying evercade . Um , I'll start . I bought the arkham batman trilogy for switch , so I've been playing arkham . I thought I started at the beginning , so I've . Um , I dabbled with the games back in the PS3 . I can't remember which ones I completed . I'm very vague on them . I thought I'll tell you what .

I'm just going to buy them again . Get them on the Switch .

Speaker 2

When did you start playing it ? Like you know , the remaster , sort of Switch version when did you start playing that ?

Speaker 3

Oh , as of recording this last week .

Speaker 2

Oh good , the only thing I was going to say is it must have had a lot of updates , because I think it got heavily , you know .

Speaker 3

Yeah , I think it was at launch . I think it was a bit rough yeah .

Speaker 2

Yeah , I heard it was unplayable , almost .

Speaker 3

Yeah , I've only . Like I say , I'm on Arkham Asylum , first game on plan , handheld mode . I haven't played on the TV . Handheld mode haven't played on the tv . Handheld mode looks very good , frame rate solid . Um plays very well . I haven't . I haven't even noticed a frame drop yet , so I would imagine that's been patched right up .

Speaker 2

But yeah , you've already got into right , right time then yeah .

Speaker 3

So you know , for free games . I mean , what did I pay for that 30 bucks ? You can't complain at that . Three massive batman games , you know , for 30 bucks on a handheld , brilliant . So been enjoying that not too far in a couple hours , really enjoying that . Um , I have also .

I was away last week , um , with my wife and our friend um , and we started no surprise , surprise , we went stardew valley but we tried the three-player co-op and that just changes that game up so much . That is brilliant , so much fun .

So it's pretty much the same as what you would do in a single player , but this time you're all working towards the same goal . You've got your own little house on the farm . One can be starting doing sowing the seeds , digging so you're not .

Speaker 2

You're not competing , you're helping each other .

Speaker 3

you can do it , so you keep the money separate , but we have all the money in the same pot . So one will wander off and say , oh right , I'm just going to get some seeds . We're a bit short . One can go off foraging , One can go and you just go off in your own ways .

Speaker 2

Hold on . You're telling me you haven't got a secret . You know that Mrs RGT can't access . That's where you put the special seeds , the pumpkin seeds Are we talking about ? Stardew or real life . I mean , I've hit my head pretty hard .

Speaker 3

Yeah , no , I was pretty honest in the game . We've got this one bank there , all the money going , and it's really good , because I don't know if you've ever played .

Speaker 2

It sounds like good fun . I've seen lots of footage of it . I haven't played it properly . I've only literally played it for like five minutes , I think , to see what it was about , played other farming simulators and stuff . But I know it's got a massive , massive following . There's constant updates and people always . You know it's one of those forever games .

Speaker 3

I mean , this game got my wife really into gaming . She was very , very like gamers or iPad occasional game , but she wasn't really understanding controls and how the control pads worked or switches work . But Switch Lite , stardew Valley , and now she is 200 hours in on Stardew loves it .

He is 200 hours in on Stardew loves it , and it is for a game made by one man . It is oh , it's impressive . It's impressive , it's nice that it appeals to .

Speaker 1

It's a lovely story .

Speaker 2

Yeah , it appeals to so many people . I've got a friend and his wife who is , again , they are not into she's not into games at all and they just play a game called Farm together , which is a very indie you know um version , cheaper version or farm and I see him on switch . He plays it every night . He logs on about half an hour an hour before bed .

They play it as a couple together and they are on thousands of hours . So it's nice where you know that there's these games being created that you can play with your whole family . People were , you know , necessarily into gaming . They're not too complex , they're not fast paced . You can do it your own pace .

Speaker 3

You can go as fast or as slow as you want to take it well , I think the good thing is as well , especially for mrs rgt , is the worrying thing for her with gaming was , especially if you're playing like an open world game , are you doing it correctly ? Uh , you know , am I doing this wrong ? Am I gonna die ? Am I gonna do this ?

You ain't got a way in starting , because there's no wrong way of doing it correctly . Uh , you know , am I doing this wrong ? Am I going to die ? Am I going to do this ? You ain't got why I'm starting , because there's no wrong way of doing it . There's missions to do , like you can do .

You can do up the community center and restore it , but it doesn't matter if you do that in year one or year 50 , you do that when you want .

Speaker 2

Yeah it's your own pace , is there ?

Speaker 3

any way of growing certain vegetables . No , you grow what you want . Is there any cattle you should have ? No , you know , and that's what she loves . There's no wrong way of doing it . She can get to anything she wants mine and all the bits and it's just an endless game . You can play it for as long as you want .

You know , these people put thousands of hours in , have these massive farms and workers . That's brilliant , brilliant fun , you know , and it's yeah , it doesn't ever get boring . I love that game , absolutely love it .

But yeah , I've um , we and that really , I've put a lot of hours into Stardew , but then , starting again with three players , I give it another edge again . Where you want to go again , you think , oh , this is good because you all help each other once in this , once in that .

And you know , I sort of specialised in fishing , so I got all my ranks up on fishing and someone else was doing the farm and Mrs RGT was doing the mining . So you're accomplishing more what you do in three years than one year , you know . But yeah , really , good .

Speaker 2

I'm glad you're practising , because the waterhole in El Paso is dried up so there's no fish and the potato patch is really struggling . So I could do with any skills or assistance . You know , tips that you've got . We're starving . We're starving down here .

Speaker 3

Once my $4,000 payment got well , once we're starving we're starving down here once , um , my four thousand dollar payment that george done last week is cleared , then hopefully I'll be back in and bring all my starter experience . I think it's more about .

Speaker 2

I think he's malnourished . George george , yeah , I've got . He's got a little bit of moisture around his lips . He should be all right , but he's not eating for a few days . It's . It's been tough weather conditions this week in el pasoo really has .

Speaker 3

Yeah , I heard he's been a bit poorly , bless him . But yeah , other than that , I've also got EAFC 25 . So I get it every year . George normally bans me from talking about EAFC because he finds it quite boring , but I will say so , far far , I'm absolutely loving it . I buy every year the afc or fifa does it used to be .

This , to me , is the biggest change . The whole gameplay , the way you play the game is completely different and in a very good way . Now , and for all you football fans out there , the teams really hold up . They play a modern way . You'll sometimes go quite a few minutes of not even touching the ball .

They'll hold the ball and you've got to tactically work out , get that ball off them . And if you play Moralistic , very , very , yeah , very much so . So so far I'm enjoying it . So I've done the usual thing career mode , league two on with bromley this year , trying to get bromley up there up the football league sounds like fifa and pre-open .

Speaker 2

You know , pre-evolution soccer might have merged in . That might be what ea have gone with .

Speaker 3

They took the best of both worlds maybe I think because I might be wrong here I think ea pulled a pulled a bit of a flanker on fifa because obviously this deal that fell through that I mean rumors were , rumors were um FIFA organization wanted $350 million a year for using the name and EA eventually went no , we're not doing that .

So I reckon why there was little updates on sort of FIFA 2021 , 22 , 23, . There was only little differences and I think because they were building their proper game in the background .

Speaker 2

So , yeah , that's your fifa , fifa , fifa . That's not a bad shout , yeah , yeah save the , save the money from it .

Speaker 3

Well , you're supposed to be doing another game with 2k . They're supposed to be doing a new fifa game with 2k and so I think , I have said right , wow , this is , this is how you do a football game . See what you got .

This you know , and I mean you know and if some things are the same , some things have changed your , your , um , your heart and your home screens all changed .

Now you sit there , go through your emails , read your emails , ping them off and do bits um the individual coaching your players is quite in depth for a game that you actually play the matches as well , um , and yeah , as the last two years of fifa , my hours I've played each year have dropped significantly because I just hadn't quite .

You know , you play a couple of seasons and think same again , I'm to find something else to play , but this year has got me excited for the first time in about four or five years , so I'm hoping that this could be the uh , the definitive version , I think , which yeah , that's .

Speaker 2

That's good , because normally when you get a new FIFA game each year , I should stop calling it now or EA game . So when you get it , normally the first week

Gaming Reviews and Recommendations

or so people go , oh , how is it ? And you're like , oh , you're not sure , because obviously no one likes change . It's always something different , like a different tactic or defence , different button configuration or mechanism to work out , and you're not very good . It takes a couple of weeks . People

[Ad] The Gaming Blender

get used to the controls and new style defending and then they go , oh , it is better . So the fact that you said it straight away , yeah , just goes to show I normally play .

Speaker 3

I think last year's game I'd play on legendary level , um , and you know , not saying I'm brilliant , but I'd I'd be comfortable at that level so this year legendary or is it world class ?

Speaker 2

Is it the legendary top , is it ?

Speaker 3

I think there might be one above legendary , some sort of one off the top , I think . But this year I always start at my professional level and just see where it is . But this year I thought , well , I was on legendary , We'll just go in at world class level and see where I am . First game tonked , absolutely tonked . And I thought this game

(Cont.) Gaming Reviews and Recommendations

because I couldn't get the ball . I couldn't get the ball off the team . They were holding it up and pinging it and then they were waiting for me passing and then taking the foul and I was like , wow , this is so I had to change .

Speaker 1

I'm still on world-class yeah .

Speaker 2

I'm still on world-class level but I've had to change lot of American football so I actually want to get the season started about three weeks ago , so I'd be really into that . So I wanted to get a Madden to not play one in years and now discovering the baseball game , I like that , but I might have to jump on that as well .

I'll give you a tip on the oxygen there . There's another thing .

Speaker 3

One more thing on that as replays now the replay system , I mean everything's been overhauled pretty much , even in a minor way or something's a big way . But when I do the instant replays now I'm strut away . Sometimes that'll go straight into first person mode .

So you see it from the player's view , look at that yeah , that's a nice little touch , but yeah , it's good , definitely recommend it . Um , and final game , I've been playing and I think everyone knows I've been playing this and that is Astro Bot .

Speaker 2

Yeah , I hear nothing but good things about it . Oh what ?

Speaker 3

a game Scott .

Speaker 2

Game of the year .

Speaker 3

Are you throwing it in there ? I would say so far , easily my game of the year by a margin , by a big , big margin . I've always been a fan of Astro Bot . I said a few years ago , which is through gritted teeth , and I said this to Rampage Talk on Instagram the other day when he put his post up . I said he said no , I put my post on .

He commented what's it like ? And I said well , he said it's at PlayStation's Mario and I said , well , it might be controversial but it's uh , it's , it's in my eyes , it's better than mario , that's better .

Speaker 2

I felt like that when I when I I didn't realize until seb said on a previous show that the astrobot um original game is on pre-loaded so so I went .

Speaker 3

That's actually not the third game , that one , that's all right .

Speaker 2

So it's kind of like yeah , yeah it's kind of like a um , a demo of showing how good the controller is .

Speaker 3

That's how I felt it was showing you how good the PS5 controller is .

Speaker 2

But then at one point it did feel a bit Odyssey-like , like I was throwing my hat around . I did feel like you know .

Speaker 3

Well , I was listening to . Actually today I was listening to Retro Asylum , with Chris Worthington on there and he was talking about Astro Bot and he said this gives off vibes of a 90s 3D platformer . Oh yeah , it's better . You know , the graphics are fantastic , you've got haptic feedback , you've got the controller , but it's that nailed , polished 3D platformer .

And he is right . I mean , this game is superb . I cannot see where there is a bad thing when this game is 80 levels . It's a long or longish game for a 3d platformer . It looks stunning , the frame rate's fantastic , the controls are brilliant and there's loads of easter eggs in there playstation characters you find , and devices . Oh , it's really , really good .

Um , can't recommend it enough . So , yeah , I've been loving that . I think I'm about eight , nine hours in , but I've been exploring't recommend it enough . So , yeah , I've been loving that .

I think I'm about eight , nine hours in , but I've been exploring so much I don't know I've even touched the surface , wow , um , yeah , that's pretty much what I've been playing .

Speaker 2

Um , which you play any online sort of any go-to regular online multiplayer games that you play . Any reason why , just with that game ? Not the game , not the Game Pass , but with the PlayStation Plus . I realised Rainbow Six Siege is on there and that's on the Game Pass as well , and I've been starting to play that for half

Favorite Games From Various Genres

an hour every other night as well . You know , one of those ones , just easy , you pop on , play a couple of games , you got any competitive shooters or anything .

Speaker 3

That's never really been my jam really , but I mean going for online games at the moment .

Speaker 2

No , the occasional game with a mate on EAFC Do you do online seasons on there , or is it just campaign ?

Speaker 3

Back in 17 , 18 , 19, . I was big into I didn't play foot , I used to just play career seasons 1718? .

Speaker 2

How old are you ? 1718? .

Speaker 3

That was a fair few years ago . No , I mean the year 1718 . God , if it hadn't been me 1718 . It's that concussion again . Yeah , the internet was very in its infancy then .

Speaker 2

Just a hamster in a wheel in longhorn's basement .

Speaker 3

Yeah , one of the g4 skinny pigs turning it over providing internet to the world I used to play it regularly every night and I got up to like division one . I was in top division and played all the time . But I just got one day and I just thought , no , it's , that's all I'm playing , I'm not experiencing anything else .

I'm not experiencing anything else , I'm not playing nothing else . So I went back to just playing my dream .

Speaker 2

It's a good time , though , yeah , as long as you're enjoying yourself . It means a lot more . It means a lot more .

Speaker 3

But there was a bit of controversy at the time with cheating with some of the top guys and that put me off a little bit because I thought that's a bit naughty what they were .

Speaker 2

I remember a couple of years ago when I was in our flat a long time ago I don't know what FIFA it was , it was an Xbox 360 . I remember I was playing it every night and I got Division 4 as good as I could get . If I played computer I probably wouldn't be above a professional level on the settings difficult settings .

I remember getting to a point where I was half decent . You know , when people rage quit early on and they can get away it . I know they think they've changed things now and get punished , but I remember there's nothing more satisfying . I remember I scored an overhead kick with Romania outside the box . The build-up play was beautiful .

Someone rage quitted , added me as a friend , sent me a message and just told me good cheat and I thought do you know what ?

Speaker 3

I'll that I've scored a goal so good . He thinks I've cheated . Well , I think what I think what put me off just going over it briefly was when I was sort of high up the divisions . Um , you had your regular big guys who were playing youtube and streaming and doing the bits and then they were the top sort of three or four , had no losses playing online .

They had had so many wins , they played these career seasons but had no losses . And then someone who was streaming played one of them Was beating him 4-0 and the guys quit . The champion guy quit . So you instantly get a 3-0 win right when they quit . Yeah , yeah , yeah , I remember that .

Yeah , when it come up on his screen it said 0-0 draw , yeah , yeah yeah , when it came up on his screen it said nil-nil draw . He was like hang on , hang on . But he was live streaming . Someone said he's cheating , so they reported it to EA . They looked into it and they found out there was a loophole on the PlayStation 4 .

And what they were doing was , rather than connecting their PlayStation 4 to Wi-Fi , they connected it to . They tricked the PS4 into thinking they were on 3G . So when they quit , it thought it was a connection issue . So it announced a draw because it thought it was no one's fault .

Speaker 2

That is very , very clever , but how do you even work that out ? And these turned out that's desperation .

Speaker 3

All these top guys were doing it and I thought do you know what ? If they're doing that when we're putting the hours in to try and get up . I'm done with online . Yeah , fair enough , you lose a bit of faith in it . So , yeah , it was very disappointing . But you know , never say never With how good this new one is so far .

Yeah , maybe I can jump back on and have a bit of competitive , because I do miss it sometimes . But anyway , we'll get on to what we're here for on the show this week and we are doing a little show called Our Favourite Games from Certain Genres . So we've basically me and Scott have got together We've done a list of what we thought was .

You know we haven't done every genre . We've done a few of what we thought was . You know we haven't done every genre . We've done a few genres because then that leaves it open for us to do another show later down the line .

But we've got some genres here and we're just going to name our favourite game , each genre , and just a little explanation as to why we liked it , why it was our favourite when we played it . You know that sort of thing . So our first category is the open world

Favorite Open World Games and Recommendations

genre . So what have you got down for that , scott ?

Speaker 2

I was just going to say I'm glad you've said now what we're going to be talking about . We probably should have said it at the beginning of the show , so we're probably a fair few minutes in . People are probably tuned off , thinking this is the EA Sports Football Edition podcast . So yeah , we're going to go through each genre Not sponsored .

Yeah , minutes in people probably tuned off thinking this is the ea sports football edition podcast . So yeah , we're gonna go for each not sponsored , not sponsored , yeah , that's it not sponsored . Get that in there . Um , but yeah , so for open world . I mean , I'm gonna go through some games .

I know , as I'll talk about them , I'll probably think of some others . Um , first one to come to my mind most recently that I discovered was red dead redemption on the switch , where I played through it and absolutely loved it in terms of open world , for that Absolutely found that fantastic as a game .

Speaker 3

Can I just interrupt you Because I know what's going to happen here . You're now going to start naming games . I'm thinking , damn , I should have had that on my list .

Speaker 2

No , that's what it's a bit I mean , yeah , I've got you know , probably like a dozen .

Speaker 3

That's a good example .

Speaker 2

Yeah , red Dead Redemption was one that that's because I've played it recently . You know Literally that was . I completed it earlier this year , re-completed it on a .

Speaker 3

Switch . What's that like on a Switch ?

Speaker 2

Plays well , Well , I haven't . Yeah , I think fantastic . I heard there's a little bit of a graphic upgrade as well , it looks a bit better than it does on the PS3 , et cetera . Well , as soon as it , yeah , as soon as . I think it's just like ray tracing they do .

I don't , yeah , I don't know how much I've got very , um , good technology parts of it with the developing and what they do , but I got it as soon as it was released and played through it . So I don't even think that was with any additional updates . Um , so , yeah , that was really really good .

Um , and then another sort of trilogy remaster I got was a g trilogy . Now that was really buggy and I was doing a campaign of GTA San Andreas , because I loved that San Andreas . I know a lot of people don't bring that one up , they talk about Vice City or Five and different ones , but I love San Andreas . I was playing through it .

It got really far and then every time I started up it wouldn't have to save it , it would just crash , crash that game . So I haven't played it for ages but I mean to go back to it and check it .

Speaker 3

I think people have more nostalgia because 3 was obviously the big start point for the big 3D open world game . Voice City was the one where everyone went oh , it's 80s and all the music and bits and pieces . But George always says to me San Andreas is the best game . Technically he's correct because it's the biggest one .

And also they added in your right stick camera controls , obviously on the Trilogy . You're fine with that . Back in the day you didn't have that on Vice City , so they'd sort of perfected it by the time they got to San Andreas . So yeah , it is a brilliant , brilliant game .

I got it on the PS5 when it came out and if it rained , turn the game off , because you could not see nothing when it rained .

Speaker 2

Oh really .

Speaker 3

Oh , the rain was . They literally had just white lines . Oh like gasoline on a screen , yeah , and it just like these white , and you're just like I can't see anything . Then you stood under a bridge and the rain still come through the bridges and everything and I was like , oh , this is buggy , left it a while .

But then me and Bull Border streamed it for a while .

Speaker 1

We played through Three and Vice .

Speaker 3

City . We played through that . We got so far . In San Andreas we couldn't do it anymore because of work commitments and bits , but playing them back through once they were patched is good fun . It is good fun . Yeah , definitely Sorry . Carry on .

Speaker 2

I sort of interrupted you , that's all right . Yeah , another one . This one's probably more of an underrated one and people might not agree with me , but one that I enjoyed . I think it was Xbox One . It was out . I didn't complete the second one , but Tom Clancy's A Division . I just got like I had a really good time with it . I completed it .

It wasn't a massively long game , but I really really loved the story of it . I played that every day for however long . It was a couple of weeks for me to complete it and I thought that game was really really good and you can get that really really cheap now . If someone hasn't played , all the Tom Clancy games are good , but the Division's fantastic .

It's Division 1 , division 2 . What's funny , I completed it , thought , thought I was really good to complete the game . I was really proud of myself . I don't complete a lot of games . I'm not hardcore like yourself , igt , I'll sporadic play , pick up games , put them down . Um , when you complete it , you go into an online mode .

It really made me laugh , so I thought I was really powerful . I was talking to people online from america and stuff going around , little gang , you know , looting other people and all this sort of stuff that you're doing sort of the black market are underwhelmed , if you like .

And , um , I remember saying I was shooting people and nothing was happening , and like there was enough of us , so I wasn't like taking damage , I didn't notice , I was weak . Obviously you can see where that's the saying's going , where the story's going . And then , um , that's what weapons you've got ? And I think it was purple or something .

And they all just started laughing . I was like what purple is the best weapon ? And they was like , no , that's the best grade of weapon . Um , at a certain level . And then once , like when you complete the game and then once you play online , you realize it's all different colors and black and all this different stuff . So all the they literally dropped .

They were really nice , they gave me loads of free loot , but literally I was shooting people , nothing was happening . Oh no , their armor was like a hundred levels better than mine . You know , a bit like some of those open world rpgss , and you come up to a battle and all of a sudden you realise hold on , this area is stronger than I am .

Speaker 3

But yeah , tom Carty for the division Fantastic Mickey off of Discord Finster . If you're on our Discord you might have seen him on there with his figures and Warhammer bits and pieces .

Speaker 2

But if I remember rightly , he was a big online division player , right , I'm ?

Speaker 3

sure he really . Yeah , I think he played that quite a bit . Yeah , yeah , you never know , you might have been the one I was shooting at .

Speaker 2

Um , another strange , um , another strange recommendation again . It's probably not . It's just good about these lists because they're not going to be . You know , it's not like if you googled the top 10 or anything like that , I'm going to come out with some weird ones . I'm going to throw another one right now Deadly premonition , which ? The second one I didn't .

It was very wacky . I didn't complete it , but the first one for what it was . I had no idea about the game . I heard it was a bit of a cult classic . I heard the second one was coming , that I like the look of it . So I got the first one , but I didn't really get what it was about . I didn't get the story .

The sort of weird twat humour yeah , very , very odd . And I'll tell you what . I really enjoyed it . I enjoyed it so much . But then I played the second one straight after and I was like I can't do this again . It's too much , it's too out there , too wild . But yeah , that it's a bit of a . It's not a hidden gem , I mean , it's a cult classic .

A lot of people rave about it . But yeah , that got released on the Switch . I'm assuming it was on a different platform prior to that and it just got , you know , upgraded or re-released . But yeah , that was a really , really good game I would recommend for open world . I did have that on Arkham City as well , even though I didn't get too far in it .

But one of those Batman games I know you're all playing the trilogy , yeah . But yeah , some of the big games , like you know , I've played , obviously , ghost of Shima recently , but you know , like no Man's Sky and Starfield , I haven't got into the big , big ones . It's more some of the older ones .

There's plenty of time to get to those , but there's some of the older ones . I've dabbled in them , don't get wrong . That's , I got the xbox when , um , no starfield come out . I've tried a bit of no man's sky , I think on a game pass , not on a switch , because I saw the background sort of loads um .

But spider-man 2 for modern , that's probably the most modern one I've played and really , really enjoyed . Yeah , um , yeah , really enjoyed that one . I'm trying to think of what other ones have played recently . Oh , yeah , sorry mafia the mafia trilogy everyone's been talking about that I've got a cup .

I've got a couple of them , but but rgt , I haven't played them yet . Mafia one and two I've heard so much good things about people been popping off in a discord in , you know , in the previous month saying how good it is . They're replaying them . Um , I've got them . I feel like it's on playstation 2 or xbox , I'm not sure I've got them somewhere .

I really want to play those , I know have a look on um .

Speaker 3

Have a look on um playstation premium I think there's one or two of them on there for the remastered ones oh , mate , I'll do .

Speaker 2

If they're on there , I'll do that .

Speaker 3

I know it's a bit of a cop out me saying , saying it is a favorite .

Speaker 2

you know open world , but I just wanted to acknowledge that was one you know , pay homage to it , that have heard a lot of good things . I know I'm going to like it and I want to play that one .

Speaker 3

The first one , even though it seems a bit empty now because it's an older game . But they nailed the era really well . The cast , even the radio had the period music on oh mate , I can't , that's next week . I mean .

Speaker 2

I'm off somewhere next few days , but I'll be playing that next week Definitely .

Speaker 3

We'll talk about that in the next show .

Speaker 2

Yeah , really awesome quality .

Speaker 3

Out of all those , have you got a favourite open world game ? Have you got ?

Speaker 2

out of all those , my dead set favourite . Do you know what I'll probably would say yeah , I'd probably say Red Dead Redemption . To be honest , that's a good show . Yeah , it's most in there . You know , I was trying to think , I was thinking today and I was thinking there's going to be something I've missed or forgotten about .

But that one really sticks out In the last few years . You know , gun to my head , that would be one I'd be happy with . You know , if I could say well , that's the only one open world game you can play again , I'll be like you know what ?

Speaker 3

that's , fine , I'll play that

Red Dead Redemption and Online Adventures

I think as well that was . That was rockstar really getting in their swing and getting to their peak . Yeah , you know a western game at the time . You know we'd had things like gun , um , and they were good games . But you just thought , if rockstar's doing a western , you know what it's going to be like .

Then you start playing and think , yeah , they've nailed this again .

Speaker 2

And they it's such a good game . Yeah , the only thing I would say is if , obviously , once you've completed the game , would you really stay around after you've done all the side quests ? That's the other thing . Yeah , with GTA , like we've you know , say , sanjay , that was my second choice , they were both up there . I can just , I can gang bang , baby .

I could just roll around , pull up , I can play that game every day . So I'm , I'm , I'm still a bit . Yeah , both of those , it's a close . It's a close . Two gold medals there , two gold medals , yeah .

Speaker 3

Yeah , I think as well , especially with the first red . Not , not , obviously not the time , you know . You can only render so much , but yeah , great choice , yeah .

Speaker 2

Let me know yours then .

Speaker 3

I had some very similar ones . Red Dead again , basically because me and my mate . He played it first . It's still his number one game of all time . He just said to me look , get this . We started playing it . You know , and then talking about it in the evenings , how far you got , what mission you're on , and I was just like this is phenomenal .

They've done what they've done with the GTAs . They've lured you in and you feel part of that world and you want to keep playing and you want to keep getting to the next place . Where's the story going ?

Speaker 2

You know , I've had so many friends who recommended that game to me years ago and I was like no , no , not interested , not interested . When I started playing it I was like oh my God , I see , you know we , we .

Speaker 3

We then finished the game . Then we started playing online . Um , he and he thought he'd try online out . Anyway , he phoned me the next day and said oh , I played till like four in the morning online . I met this guy from America . We went round , possied up together , we're doing all these missions and I thought that sounds brilliant .

So then we started playing online . We were doing all the . Then we started playing the Obviously . Then we played Undead Nightmare . Then we played that online , yeah , and we had so much fun . And my mate I can't remember if I've said this on the podcast before my mate had this brilliant story .

He'd been playing online for a while and then one night he was playing and when he when he like zoomed into a map , this guy just bang , shot him and he's like oh , he moved , zoomed in again , shot him wherever he was . Then this bloke kept chasing him . My mate , don't give up . He's like right , I'm not having this right .

So anyway , he done the old quick drop and roll . When he got in and this guy was like statted up thousands hours , he stole his horse , right , this guy was on the microphone saying he's gonna kill him and I'll find where you live . Yeah , he's proper into it , so he rid into blackwater . My mate , yeah , got well away from his horse was up top horse .

Stood there in the middle of the square waiting for him and as the guy ran into town he executed his horse that's so savage . This guy was sending messages . He was from america , he was sending messages saying he was going to fly over and hunt him down and he was just like all right , calm down , fella .

Speaker 2

But that was just good times like that , brilliant , so yeah while we're on the subject , a bit of a a strange story , but I share because it's come up that , um , the undead , you know the undead version .

I don't know if that's on the switch I hope it is but I have basically had the undead version on the 360 and I think that's gone up a bit pricey now , isn't it , I believe ?

Speaker 3

oh , yeah , I think it has since the uh . Since the uh re-release has come out , everyone suddenly wanted to get the originals .

Speaker 2

Yeah like , yeah , the uh , they sort of been a bit of a price spike of the 360 games and anyway , that one game I had it but it's gone . It's a bit of a it's very strange one . I had , um , basically in the games room there is a you know cylinder and stuff in the corner . I had a tradesman working in the games room .

There is a cylinder and stuff in the corner . I had a tradesman working in the house and luckily , because I didn't know him , I took a picture . There's no camera in here . I took a picture of each elevation before and after and I looked after and I was like , oh , nothing looks missing . And then a few weeks later I noticed a gap .

Open World Game Favorites

I looked back at the photos and , yeah , I took a look and he stole the game . Yeah , I turned it off and he stole the game . Couldn't believe it . But what was weird out of all the things ? I was like no , it must have fallen down . So you know , I didn't say anything and I looked around .

I remember speaking to Mrs about it , we had looked down the back of the shelves and I was like , out of all the things , why take that ? It blew my mind . But yeah , completely gone around . It's never turned up and I've got a picture before and after and it's just missing , like literally no one else has been in there . Absolutely bizarre .

So somewhere , somewhere , I don't know there's an electrician enjoying a bit of a undead on me , oh no that's terrible that's a strange that was .

Speaker 3

That was the days when dlc came on discs yeah well , exactly that yeah that's that might be , why , it's gone up in value in case the dlc gets taken away .

Speaker 2

That might be a possibility , actually , good point , yeah that is very good point .

Speaker 3

Um , yeah , sorry , what else you got , buddy ? No , so yeah , red dead . Uh , red dead 2 . I mean it was very close to my top spot , that is as I mean for a western game , for a , a story , for setting , for graphics as well . I mean it made my PS4 sound like it was going to take off like a chinook . I mean it was brilliant .

It is just perfection , that game . It pushed me very close to the top spot Red Dead 2 . I've got games like Horizon Zero Dawn , first one .

Speaker 2

I've not played it . I've not played it . I know the Lego one's come out , which made me think a bit more . I know we covered that , but I've not played that . That's on the Game Pass , isn't it ?

Speaker 3

Yeah , I think it is yeah yeah , On premium yeah , yeah . I've said this before on the show . I won't go into it too much . I've said this a hundred times before . I tried two or three times playing at 10 hours in 15 . I just couldn't get into it . And then george just said just take it to that next level and play it .

And then , and then one day I did , then I was hooked 100 hours in , loved it . Brilliant game , um , unique story , um , very , very unique story which I loved flipping over . You know you're in the future , but the tech is from the past and all that really clever , um , well written , um , just a really well made game .

And you know , unique for an open world game . You're in the future , but the tech is from the past and all that Really clever , well written , just a really well-made game . And you know , unique for an open world game . You know it's different and I like that . Actually , one of the Assassin's Creed games . Not a lot of people say the Assassin's Creed games .

Speaker 2

I know Ubisoft , and it's as we say , I'm sure a lot of people would have . You know , and it's as we say , I'm sure a lot of people would have you know a lot of people do , but there's certain titles that . It's just there's certain ones in a series people don't like . That's what I would say .

Speaker 3

Mine was my favourite and really good open world game . George struggled with it . He didn't like it . He played it later on . But I played it about a year after release and that was Origins . That was when the games that had their format of Assassin's Creed games . They'd done it for so long . They just got really thin on the grain . No one was interested .

So they had a couple of years out and then come back with an open world version of Origins and I loved it . You know , setting the pyramids and bits really good . Platinum 130 hours really good . Wow , nomad Sky , I've got that as well . Like you Played that that . I let them patch it quite a bit . So I was about two years after release , really enjoyed it .

I mean , george has got thousands of hours in that .

Speaker 2

Yeah , I've got a friend , rob Nottskamer , he's done . Yeah , thousands on it as well . Yeah , so every either clicks of you or it doesn't .

Speaker 3

Yeah , it didn't at first . Because it didn't at first because it wasn't so much the state it released in , it was what a week before , um , jordan Murray was his name I can't remember the guy who was the lead developer and he was promising all his air to air space combat and all this and that which wasn't in the game .

So he had done a bit of uh , um , I can't think the other devs name given at the beginning and that didn't quite turn out , so I left it a little while until I played it .

And when I did play it and actually worked it out a bit and put some hours into it , I just thought this game really is endless , this game really is as big as they say and I thought just for a technical marvel , I thought that was pretty impressive .

Yeah , so so that , and to still be back in it and doing updates , free updates , to this day , you think , yeah , they're , you know , fair play to them for that . Um , um , what else did I have ? I can't think what else I put now .

Speaker 2

Um , was there some planets in no man's sky that weren't populated of anything ? Or is that um the other big release ? I know that yeah , I heard someone say that there's like hundreds of planets but there's nothing on them . They're rather . Someone said it perfectly , so they're rather . There was just 30 , but with stuff on yeah , starfield um I think it's .

Speaker 3

it's specifically generated on no man's sky , so whenever you land you've got different animals and different creatures .

Speaker 2

Yeah , yeah , I played it a little bit yeah .

Speaker 3

Yeah , so that's quite good . Oh , I also had Spider-Man 1 and 2 .

Speaker 2

Yeah , you know you've got to have them Got to have it ?

Speaker 3

Got to have it Platinum both , and Miles Morales , which is the best one though . Oh , oh wow .

Speaker 2

Different reasons isn't there Different ?

Speaker 3

reasons . Spider-man was awesome just because you know you play it and think this is how you make a Spider-Man game . This is brilliant . They've perfected that Well done . Insomniac Awesome . Then you played Miles Morales . It was a very early release , came out with a PS5 .

Then you fire it up on a PS5 and look at the graphics and think , wow , you know , this looks amazing . So then I had that that great feeling for miles morales . But then spider-man 2 you know , yes , people like well , it's not much different from one . But you get off that halfway point and the story ramps up awesome again .

Speaker 2

Um , oh , that's hard to say something . Do you want to see something cool ?

Speaker 3

Do you want to see something cool .

Speaker 2

I'm pretty sure this is the very first Spider-Man game ever , so it's a boxed , very good condition . It's Spider-Man for the 2600 , I think this one is .

Speaker 3

No way , Parker .

Speaker 2

yeah , I'm pretty sure that's his first .

Speaker 3

That's the first time I've seen the box art for that . I've seen the cartridge , but I've never seen the box art . That's awesome box art as well yeah oh , yeah , it's beautiful .

Speaker 2

Yeah , green Goblin Spider-Man's falling on his back . Yeah , that's really cool .

Speaker 3

I think that was I'm pretty sure that was the first video game with Spider-Man yeah , I think you might be right , so yeah , but my number one and I know quite a few people won't agree with me my number one open world game is Breath of the Wild you teased me and then you dropped it in .

Yeah , my reason being I said this before on the show I weren't too well at the time . I was having struggles , I needed something to take my mind off things . I had Breath of the Wild . I'd had it for a while and the Wii U actually played this all the way through on the Wii U .

So then one day I just sat down , I had the strategy guide and I just sat there and thought I'm getting into this . And then for the next three weeks , 130 hours and it is just I don't know what it is . I never thought nintendo would make an open world game like this . Um , but they've just nailed . I love the . I love the aesthetic of it .

I I thought I know the graphics and the . The rendering is is about the powerful as you can get because of the switch and the wii u , blah , blah , blah . But I loved how link looked . I loved that graphic style . I loved that opening when you come out of the cave . Very , very story , very storm-driven .

Speaker 2

Was it the fact that it was such an involvement and it was such a wow and shock factor ? Is that why you chose it over Tears of the Kingdom ? Because once Tears of the Kingdom came out , you'd already experienced it .

Speaker 3

yeah 100% , 100% . Don't get me wrong .

Speaker 2

Yeah , I enjoyed Tears of the Kingdom more than I enjoyed Breath of the Wild . I played it more than the other . But obviously I can imagine , as a you know , obviously I love the switch , but I've said before I'm not the biggest , hugest zelda fan .

I play them all but you know I'm not , um , I don't go crazy for them , um , and I can imagine , you know , if you're into zelda , when that comes . I've got a friend who absolutely loves zelda

Favorite Horror Games and Memories

games . He goes , he's got tattoos all over him , he loves them from all the way , way back and yeah , that just blew him away and he said the same thing . It's just because it was such a change and shock . So , yeah , what a title . I mean that might feature on a certain someone's RPG list later on , potentially . Yeah .

Speaker 3

And just for me , I'll tell you what is the difference between Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild . Breath of the Wild was , like you say , 100% , first time you've seen this . So you open it up and think , wow , they have done a massive , open world which it was . A massive open world , it's a big map .

That's the first time you're hearing the sounds . The first time you're hearing the little ditty when you make your food . It's the first time . Tears of the Kingdom you knew that was coming , but you get the extra . Don't get me wrong . Tears of the Kingdom is 100% worth playing and it's a massive game .

But as nostalgia and what it means to me , Breath of the Wild is brilliant and my best open world game , Absolutely favourite . I remember the first time it was a few come close , yeah .

Speaker 2

I remember when I first played Breath of the Wild , I think where I got I first turned it off and got a bit frustrated with it was I couldn't find any fire pits and I went to , like you know , a cold area . I didn't have anything and I was trying to pick these chillies and cook something up to put a bit of warmth on , you know , take the frost off .

But I wasn't , but I didn't know and I was like , ah , and that just really , yeah , yeah , I know what you mean . It's just a bit of when you first start . I worked it out eventually On .

Speaker 3

Tears of the .

Speaker 2

Kingdom . It didn't bother me , but on Breath for a while when I first encountered that dynamic . Literally it just really wobbled me , it really did .

Speaker 3

It is obtuse at start the planes . You know what . What's going on ? And I tried two or three times , couldn't get it . But there was just something that ticked me , thinking you've got to play this game . There's a reason you need to play this game .

So I ended up getting the strategy guide , got through the first bit , found the shrines and then I spent days going around every shrine to get as many hearts as I could to . Then , yes , it needed the minimum 15 to get the master sword , you know , and that was it ?

Speaker 2

I always , I'm always going for the um on tears of the kingdom . I was going mad and the shrines trying to get the um stamina . I just went .

Speaker 3

I'd done the stamina first and then went hard to get the master yeah because ? Because then you could just climb and you know , there was yeah oh , it's great what you're talking about .

Speaker 2

It's making me smile , you know . Just remembering , I had that experience with tears of the kingdom . I , I think more than with Breath of the Wild .

Speaker 3

They're very , very well-crafted games . And also when you think of I know , breath of the Wild is just a Wii U game on a Switch , but Tears of the Kingdom is a very big game to have on a Switch . They've done well to get that on there , it does really well yeah . But yeah , so yours is Red Dead dead , mine is breath of the world .

So two great games , really , two highly I'm glad you brought that one up .

Speaker 2

That's a good one , very good well next on our list .

Speaker 3

We're changing up completely . Now we are going for horror , so do you want me to go first on this one ?

Speaker 2

yeah , you go first , yeah right .

Speaker 3

Um , you've obviously got your classics , so on my list I've got things like well , it's got to be resident even and resident evil original one , playstation one . Um , I've spoke about this before so I'll be brief . My mate used to speed run .

This um knew where everything was back to back done it with resident evil 2 , and he just fascinated me by how he played this . You wouldn't think he even had tank controls door zombie bang , he's down . Yeah , it's that . Miss that one , because you don't need to kill him .

Speaker 2

Go in there , there's ammo , green herb bang , you know , and you're like wow , he'd run through it in minutes I've seen people I've seen on pictures of I don't know where it was I'm not on facebook , instagram , but I've seen people I've seen on pictures of I don't know where it was , I'm not on Facebook , instagram , but I've seen people share it might have been

on YouTube , just a post . I've seen people do meetups and they will literally speed , run Resident Evil and have competitions how quick they can do it . I've seen them do it in like a pub . It might have been someone on a WhatsApp group . I've seen People just definitely do that .

Speaker 3

Yeah , so it's me running out of ammo dog coming at me , yeah , just blasting all up the ceiling , yeah , um . But then you think , like res 2 , and you had I always get the names from claire and who's the other guy in res 2 I cannot remember . Oh , I always forget their names . Anyway , you had the guy and the girl and then you'd play the game through .

Was one of them on one disc ? Then you played through the game from the other because they get . Have you played Res 2 , scott ?

Speaker 2

Yes , I have yeah .

Speaker 3

And then , obviously , then you play from the other side of the burning tank with the other character . Is it Leon Leon ?

Speaker 2

yeah , yeah , it's come up , leon , yeah , yeah .

Speaker 3

And then you play as Leon through his game , you play as Claire through her game . Then you could leave this is what always fascinated me in the day you could leave ammo in storage from where you met . Yeah , yeah , yeah , and then you could .

Then , because you completed both , you could then play each other in each other's version , so you could then play Leon and Claire's side Claire and Leon . You know it's things like that , and I always thought they didn't have to do all that back in the day , but they did . They gave you so much option to play . So , yeah , res 2 .

Another little favourite this was I think it's what I'm in one of my hidden gems . I'm sure it might have been . Correct me , community Corrections if I'm wrong .

Speaker 2

Cold Fear , Great shout yeah , yeah , I think I'll put that on the Xbox OG I think yeah , and I'll tell you what that looks very good on the OG Xbox .

Speaker 3

I mean it looks good on the PS2 , but it looks good . It's almost got that Res 4 feel to it over-the-shoulder third-person shooter , but this time you're on the sort of zombie , russian sort of taken over warship , unique , spooky in the day , walking down dark corridors and that . That unique spooky in the day walking down dark corridors , and that that's good .

That always give me the choice . Yeah , that sounds cool . Um , but we could go on no end of horror games . There's loads of good ones out there , you've gone . Even people love evil within evil within two . There's loads of those . Um , but this probably be about controversial .

I'm purely doing this because of the way I played it , who I played it with and how many times I've played it , and my favorite horror game is until dawn okay um until dawn . Ps4 exclusive . They've now done . This is no link because , as of recording , they've now announced the remaster , which I think is it coming out this week .

Speaker 2

I'm not sure I've not played it , but I'll tell you what I'm going to be playing that very soon .

Speaker 3

Now this spawned a whole genre of games and the reason being Until Dawn . It's got that teen B-movie horror style to it . But everyone I knew that played it and we'd done the same thing . We played it as a movie , we did not play it as a game . So you're all sitting in the same room .

There was me , my wife , our two friends and we would play until each , because you'd have 10 characters , you'd have to keep as many alive for the night and you'd keep cutting from one character to the next . So each time you got to another character we passed a controller along and we'd keep going . So we played it .

Now super I think it was super massive games correct me if I'm wrong done this game . Now they saw so many people online doing this . They then spawned off the man and madame games and little hope where you swapped characters with people because they saw so many people do it actually made games that done that .

That spawned off a whole new generation , but something and I sort of faded away from them then , but until dawn it I just think it perfected it . It looked really good , it was spooky . It had those proper 90s scary movie jump scares .

It had the gore , it had the decisions , even the quick time events weren't that bad , um , and then you'd go online or that would compare it to your friends and you'd see how many you kept alive , what decisions they made and you could keep oh awesome yeah , what it's really really good , really really good .

Speaker 2

I want to say thank you because I haven't . I mean , that's what's good about these lists , is ? I'm hoping some of the listeners will hear some games from here and think you know what ? I've not heard of that and that's what's just happened for me , so I'm going to play that If it's good playing on your own if you really want to have a good night .

Speaker 3

get a couple of mates around , get a few beverages and then spot the controller and go around and play it like you're watching a horror movie . Don't play it as a game . Play it as you're watching a horror movie , and it's so much fun . It's really really good . Do it . Yeah , do it .

Speaker 2

Longhorn's on a one-in , one-out , no-view policy at the moment , so I'll have to do it . When somebody's on his rounds , I'll try and sneak someone under the metal metal slash timber fence .

Speaker 3

Yeah , yeah , Sneak

Horror Game Recommendations and Discussion

him in and have a little go on until dawn . Um and I , they got close to it with their last release the quarry , the quarries , um , good , but it's not as good as until dawn . I don't think it came close , Um , but not as good . But yeah , until dawn . What about you , Scott ?

Speaker 2

For me , for me , horror games I have got , I will save off . I will save my favorite one for the end . So , um , this is a real hidden gem , an underrated one . You might see a youtube short at the time of this video coming up for it . Um , not proper horror , scary , but among the sleep on the switch you can pick it up for like 10 pound .

It's one of those indie games and it's absolutely awesome . Hopefully seb king of the indies has played it . I forgot about this . I forgot about this really good game , um . I also love the yamawari games . I know there was on the psp , I only discovered them . The long night collection , um . And then there's another one on switch .

So there's three games on the switch and at one point there was silly money , physical um . But I discovered them on the switch . Oh , they're really good . So it's like top downy um , that's isometric top down horror . It's where you've got to . So try to describe the animation .

But you , when you have the enemies come at you , you realize there's some scary things there . But if you don't interact with them , you can sort of sneak past them if you like , and you have . You know , like most horror games you've got a high end , sort of in the shadows and whatnot , but it's not as forced as that . It does seem a little bit more fun .

There's some proper , proper jump scares and it really does jump you up , but it's very , very dark and you're going through these little towns but it seems very cutesy . Yeah , if you look up the trailer of it , yamawari looks like a horror game for kids . It looks very cutesy cutesy , but it's not . It's got a very the opening 30 seconds .

I don't want to put any spoilers . It shows you that it's a horror game because something terrible happens . You know it's like I don't want to say , but imagine something . What can I say ? I can't say but yeah , something like bad happens . You know that happens in life . And then you're like , well , this is this .

And then something else happens and you're in the game and you're like , what is this Sort of this cutesy world crossing over with horror ? They're very , very good . I don't know how to describe it better than that . But yeah , check out Yomawari any of the games .

Speaker 3

Really it sounds a bit . It probably isn't , but it's .

Speaker 2

When you said isometric and top-down , that's one I probably should have mentioned and I didn't and I've played recently and that's very appreciated because I got that physical when it came out . Yeah , I've got the physical it doubled in price in the last few months , has it really ?

Speaker 3

Yeah , because everyone on 9's told me I bought that for I bought it for like a few pounds .

Speaker 2

Literally Same same I think it was 10 , 20 quid , even on release . It's one of those ones that people have realised it's a great game . So yeah , that's another great shout-out Signalis . My top two favourite I'm going to leave out . I appreciate I've tried them . I love being scared .

We love horror films Me and the Misses but I get so scared playing on my own . I'm like that . I love Outlast and Amnesia ,

Horror Game Favorites and Memories

but anything I've got to Like I've Outlast for the batteries in the camera and these you're like hiding , anything where you've got to really hide and be stealth . This is really controversial because my top game is very much stealth , but I don't know there's something about it when it's when you're on your own .

That's how I'll describe my top game is a bit more multiplayer . That's why when I'm on my own then I've got a sort of stealth . Um , I just yeah , I just can't get on with it at all . You can't attack the enemy , you can't attack them . I don't believe in that game . But in Amnesia that was more psychological .

I played a little bit of the early one that came out on Switch . They re-released them really cheap . But Outlast , I realise you got hired , your batteries go out . I couldn't get on with it . I'm too much of a pansy .

Speaker 3

I know what you mean . I played a game . I don't know if you ever played the Vanishing of Ethan Carter . No , I haven't . I haven't that's like a walking sim , but there's one bit .

Speaker 2

And a lot of the best ones are like that walking sims , yeah .

Speaker 3

The best ones on the PC bit . We have to walk through this mine and there's a haunted miner who comes after you and what he does ? He , when you hear the bell ringing as soon as you turn around , is in your face . And I've done that two or three times . I've never picked the game up since . No , I'm done with that . That's and my missus always says .

Now if I play a scary game , I go . God darling , that's scary , she go . Is that an ethan carter ?

Speaker 1

and I go .

Speaker 3

Yeah , it's not as bad as that , but it's close because she always laughs and I've never played it since . That scared the life out of me , that game .

Speaker 2

I know what you mean . There's two , two in which are on the list . So one I really did enjoy was Blair Witch . That was an enjoyable game , but it hasn't made the list . I know that's just popped into my head , but that was quite good . But real average game really was um , oh , yeah , that was it .

So a real indie one , a bit like we just said , and I've got it , really wanted to play it , but I was just I got too scared . It's called monstrum m-o-n-s-t-r-u-m . I think I've heard of that . Yeah , so I basically is that switch ? Yeah , it's on a switch , but I had it's an indie developer .

I had a game that I completed and I loved it , and I looked up the developer and they said this game was coming . No , they emailed me and they said , because you got the game , oh , that was it . It was through the eShop and I think you get money off of it and it told you it was coming out and I got the physical . So I was really excited for it .

But the whole time you're trying to survive , but the whole time you're being hunted by a monster and you can't relax . Like you think you're alright and like you say , you turn round and then it's just there and I was just like I can't play it , it just put me off . It was too much , it really was too much , I yeah yeah . I can see ? Oh quick now .

Speaker 3

As you said .

Speaker 2

Resident Evil . I'm going to say Silent Hill 1 , as you said Resident Evil . So I've got to cover the classic Good call Silent Hill . I'm going to go with just the first one . I've got them , all of them , and I'm still working my way through them playing . At the moment I play a bit of the second , a bit of the third , but the first one .

I don't complete a lot of games . That was one I was really trying to put in the time . Um , I played it so much I even started to feel like motion sickness . I know it sounds strange , I don't get that with games , but I was . There's a bit . I think it might have been .

When I was in the sewers I started getting motion sickness while I was playing it in the tunnels you're playing .

Speaker 3

I was playing at PS1 original yeah you sometimes find in a tight space on the ps1 . You get that because you get the warp , and if you notice ps1 on the outer sides of the screens , yeah , you get a bit of wobble . It's just most games do it . It's just part of the system . But in certain tight areas that does make you feel a bit when you do .

I remember in that game .

Speaker 2

But I'm just thankful now that obviously you can go online and youtube when you get stuck . You don't have to look up finding a cheat guide . So , um , yeah , so I'll mention that one . Uh , last little half dozen want to cover . Uh , this one is sort of probably my third favorite . I would say this is um clock tower .

Now I'm really excited because they've re-released yeah , so well , barely me and eva , to be honest with you , barely so . Basically , super famicon game , um , a bit of a point-and-click game . I'm not talking about , sorry , the PlayStation 1 version , sorry , or I'm talking about the original Super Famicom . It's completely different .

It's a completely different layout of the game , more of a sort of side-scrolling . One point-and-click , but I heard it was , I've always wanted to play it and it's sort of non-existent . You can't find it anywhere . Um , and it's sort of two sides of the story . So one is I've heard it's coming out on the switch . Finally , uh , through limited run games .

So I pre-ordered it ages ago , but I'm owed so many this is for another show ranting about limited run games . They owe me so many games come in I can't remember ones now , um , so I've stopped ordering from them because it's getting silly . I'm talking over a whole year .

Speaker 3

Just before you say that I stopped ordering no disrespect , limited run people like them . You know they do some fantastic limited editions and physical copies of games that you can't get great . Um , the last one I pre-ordered was streets are age four . Um , I've waited about 10 months for it .

In the meantime it'd been printed with another company , so it wasn't a bit of a run at all . No , exactly , I'd paid over the odds to get this one and it was nice . I got some stickers and some bits , but not a lot .

Speaker 2

But everyone was playing Streets of Rage 4 because they'd bought from another company so they didn't actually just have the licence on their own . I thought , yeah , Hmm , I prefer some of , because when they say it's released , it's released , yeah , super Red , they get you . But yeah , I digress so with Clock Tower .

And then I was in one of my local shops , retro Hunter , and I was talking to . It wasn't Ali the owner , it was my friend , rob , who works there and he was working behind the counter and I was like , oh , anything cool coming . He goes . Oh , this game's coming , can't find much about it . And he pulled it out . I've got it sitting over .

I'm looking in the corner , it's in my room . So I did buy it off of him . It's actual clock tower for the super family and and it's and he didn't know what to do with it because he goes . Oh , so ali owns a shop , he goes . It's so rare because I don't know how to price it .

And I , literally I said I rung up ali and I was like um , or I think I said to him but message out , I said I don't know how much it is . I was like I want it and I was expecting it to be a couple of hundred quid for a loose cart . That's what .

I thought , Because , like you can't find them on eBay , it doesn't look like they're even in Europe , you know , and if someone's got them , they're not selling them and and leave it .

Speaker 3

Yeah , so I've got 50 quid , yeah , and that was only last year , I think . That's less of what I was new .

Speaker 2

Yeah , so I've got just the loose cart . I thought it must be fake , but it looks absolutely legit . It really does . And yeah , it just . And no one came in with it to him saying you know , when people go in a shop and they know what they've got , it just came in , so they didn't . They weren't aware of the game either , you know .

It just got traded in , so he made money on it and I got an absolute bargain . It's one of the grounds . So yeah , so that one's probably my third favorite . But yeah , ironically , I've been talking to . I've got a friend , rogy um , what'd you actually change his channel name ? Now I think it's rogy hulk . I think on youtube he was gonna .

I was talking to him about buying a super famicon from him just to play that game , but I don't need to now because the Switch one's coming out , so it'll be translated because obviously it's in Japanese , but it'll be English and American . The new one .

Speaker 3

Well , I'll tell you , you can borrow off me , because you said it's a Famicom game .

Speaker 2

Yeah .

Speaker 3

Yeah , but I've got a original from back in the day Super Nintendo cartridge converter . Have you cartridge converter ? Have you ? Yeah , so what you have to do , you put your Famicom game , didn't know it existed .

Speaker 2

Yeah , right , okay , there's not many of them .

Speaker 3

I've got a Super .

Speaker 2

Nintendo one Like a Super Game Boy where you put it in the top .

Speaker 3

Yeah , you put it in the top , but you have to put a PAL game on the back to trick the system that that's a PAL game player back cartridge slot . Put clock tower on the top , plug it in while you go . So you can borrow that off me . You can play that .

Speaker 2

That sounds like the sort of cheat someone would come up with if they was trying to show they had won all their games on EA Sports 24 or FIFA . I'll say no more Other games . I want to talk about some indie ones which are very good . Again , these are super rare . Sally Face , fantastic indie game , all these are super rare . Oh , it's fantastic .

Really like cartoon graphics , that's really um , very good art style , very good art style . But that would be on steam and everything else . And then there was another game , just like it , and I slept on it , literally slept on it . It came out at night . I woke up in the morning to creole , it was gone .

That was , um , I think it's franbrow or franbo um , a very similar sally face now is . You know , it's one of those ones that's always sold out , physical um , but I'm lucky to have a copy . But I really enjoy that . I enjoyed the saw games uh , believe it or not , on x , but it's really fun .

Speaker 3

I played one of them on a ps3 . I bought it years ago . I know you can . People are gonna say I'm quite sad and if you'd seen my setup I took on my last holiday . You know I'm quite sad , but anyway , I always had a console on holiday with me

Horror Game Favorites and Memories

and I took this time I was playing . My main console was ps3 , so it's back in the ps3 generation and uh , yeah , I went in a game shop and picked one of the saw games up for pence I might have just been sore , I can't remember which one and I still got it and I played for that and that was really good fun working out the puzzles .

Had to get out of the rooms and then move on .

Speaker 2

Yeah , that was good . I enjoyed that that was good fun yeah before I mentioned before . I mentioned my top two . We just uh , pay some respect . Some of the big hitters . I've only got um like siren . I haven't played it yet . I know I've got siren 2 . I know the first ones on playstation plus . Um , I've got haunting grounds as well .

Um , but I only picked that up recently at nottingham um gaming expo so I haven't played that on the ps2 . I'd love to play man um michigan hell report . I think it is as a reporter . Everyone said it's not very good . My friend mitch retro rummage he's . He goes to boots house flips and he gets all of his games from there .

He gets all the big hitters from Boots House Flipping Games in . That's his sort of channel .

Speaker 3

I think Badabinkster off our Discord . He gets all of his games from Italy .

Speaker 2

Yeah , I was trying to find it from there .

Speaker 3

He had two or three copies because that's about a third of the price if you buy the Italian pal to buy on the UK pal .

Speaker 2

I might hit him up , because he's not too far from me bad a binkster yeah , yeah . But yeah , my friend mitch said he'd lend it to me , like he did with clock tower on the ps1 , to be fair interest in that game yeah , I don't know much about rule of the rose .

I know that's silly money , but I can't comment on it because I've never even seen anyone play it well , that game , I'm sure that game .

Speaker 3

Not so long ago Rule of Rose was a £1,000 game not so long ago .

Speaker 2

Oh it is , Don't get me wrong , it's ridiculous .

Speaker 3

But I've just been on holiday . I went into two CXs within a 30-mile radius of each other . Both had Rule of Rose in for £495 . So that's the first time I've ever seen Rule of Rose and they both had one , I think that is the price .

Speaker 2

Yeah , maybe people are just .

Speaker 3

Yeah , so where that's come from in the market . I've never seen them at a convention or anything . Suddenly seen two and two CXs in the same two days , I'm like hmm .

Speaker 2

It's like Shattered Memories With Silent Hill . That's what I want to get . But I will get Shattered Memories , memories . Well , I'll get it on the wii , because on the ps2 it is very , very expensive and I've got no problem playing the way .

Speaker 3

And I've said I think it's the better version because you you could use your your controller as a torch , couldn't you ?

Speaker 2

well , you just brought me into a great comment . This wasn't on the list . You've made me think of a great comparison . Manhunt 2 is a very expensive game in a playstation 2 . I've got it on the week . It's a . Now , if you want to play Manhunt 2 , play it on the Wii , because it's on a PSP as well .

I've got it on there , but on the Wii it's better because you literally you know I don't want to encourage violence , but you act out the frottling and the jiving and you do the nunchucks manhunt 2 ? it really is .

Speaker 3

imagine your missus walked in what game you're playing .

Speaker 2

Hang on , yeah yeah , with , uh , the old strip club music in the background . Yeah , um right , my top two , which I'm quite excited about . Um , but these are online games . They might be frowned upon . Uh , one , and let me know in a discord , and if you are listening to this and you could , you've experienced it .

Speaker 3

Friday the 13th , not the nes game I'm not the nes game I'm talking about the online game .

Speaker 2

There was a time where I'm talking old school parties , land parties so my friends would come around and we'd bring . We , I brought spare monitors kept to be on a sofa purely for friday the 13th . So I got a friend , dave and gills had come around and we'd play them together and we're taking turns whose house went to . We'd all get a lobby .

The game was so crashy but it had such a good following . I played it so much . I even um , I think I've still got her as a friend on switch . I joined facebook groups and I was playing online with the voice actress from the game and she actually joined in a game .

Yeah , yeah , yeah , she was american , she did one of the voices , vanessa or something , I think , and um , but yeah , it's a real cult following that game . People still play it , but it's really , really funny . It's got such a big following now where you'll be Jason and it's basically like Jason versus eight survivors . And then you've got there .

You either run the clock down , you fix a phone to call the police and the police come and get you , or you fix a car with fuel and battery , I think , and then you drive out the game . You can't kill Jason . Well , you can kill Jason .

Actually They've done that a couple of times , but there's a certain sequence you do You've got to get them off a sweater , you have to have a certain character come back from the dead , you have to get a baseball bat . It's really true to the film . Very good game .

Speaker 3

I played quite a bit of this as well .

Speaker 2

I played quite a bit , but it got so buggy because it got unsupported with the lights . There was a point and I should have filmed it , mate there was a point where this is a true story .

I went to pick up a weapon next to a drainpipe and I don't know how my character picked up a whole downpipe and I was carrying that downpipe around and I was just hitting jason , but it was so not toxic in a bad way , it was so good sport . Everyone who loves the game I knew it was crashy . Everyone was hardcore following .

They still play it now I've got friends on the switch that play it literally . You'll be jason and people will be like you know , yeah , dancing in front of your slut , drop in and just not caring , like it's such a good . It's a good laugh . You've had a few drinks .

Speaker 3

Yeah , we had a good laugh . We played quite a few online and my mate he's hardcore into his horror films , loves them , nothing scares him . I was Jason and we were on . Obviously we were mic'd up talking to each other and anyway I knew exactly where he was . Yeah , and I waited outside and I hadn't spoke on my headset at all and then I just went .

I can see you . He went shut up , shut up , and I went . I know where you are . He was like no just be quiet .

Speaker 2

You can hide under the fence , can't you ? And ?

Speaker 3

then I'd say I'm not going to come in the room he's like no , don no and that was so much fun .

Speaker 2

Oh , it's such a good game , even the yeah . Oh , it's epic . But that's the first game I played . Terrible , to admit this . You'd think it would be a triple-A title for Nintendo , but the first game I played over 100 hours on the Switch was Friday , the 13th First game . I went into the triple figures .

Speaker 3

It's just that . Yes , it was buggy , it was a bit glitchy , but it had that great horror vibe . Yeah , If you know , we all know Friday the 13th and they did nail it with the sound effects . They nailed it with that 80s style of horror movie . Yeah , it was amazing and above all , it was easy to play and good fun , you know .

So it was , yeah , that was a good game , it was good fun .

Speaker 2

We'd still be playing it now if it wasn't for this next one my number one top spot and we went back between both the games when it came out and we was like , oh , it's not as good as friday the 13th , but then friday the 13th would be so glitchy we couldn't get in the lobby .

And then we ended up in this other game and then this other game just thrived . It had all the licensing . It had every film franchise I could name , every classic 80s and 90s horror villain , even up to present . And they're in there and that is Dead by Daylight . And I have played into the 1,000 hours because I've done hundreds of hours on the Switch .

I've done 100 hours on the Xbox or something . I remember the laptop . At one point I remember burning out a graphics card on the laptop . There's a Star Wars limited edition laptop as well . Probably it was worth something . It's buggered now because of that game . Really I made a Steam account for it and everything . But yeah , I've not played it recently .

The last killer I've heard them have was Chucky . But I was quite good at Survivor . I thought at one point I had some good perk loadouts , but yeah , they had Stranger Things They've had .

Speaker 3

Punisher .

Speaker 2

Yeah , I've seen a lot of the license . Oh , they've had , you know , ghost face , um . They've even had nightmare on emerald street , freddy , everyone you can think of . It's amazing , basically . So it's four um .

I think they might have updated , it might be more now so it's four survivors , um , and then one killer , and basically you've got to repair , I think , four generators to and then activate the gate to get out . Um , but you don't necessarily have to get out to win . As long as you do the right things rescue people you can get put on a hook like twice .

Check out the trailer if anyone's interested . If you like , don't worry , because I've been describing my horror game saying I can't play this , it's too scary , can't play it , it's too scary , this . When I play a game with other because it's shared , you don't feel it's in control , it's more of a laugh .

So , even though it is a horror game , they're not scary , no , and it's ironic because I hate stealth games . And what do you do in this ? You stealth around in the shadows trying to fix generators , hiding from the killer .

You want to keep close to him so you know where he is , but you want to keep away , so he that , I say you know , find them too scary or don't like stealth games , but when it's with friends I'm fine with it and that , yeah , honestly , so many great memories . It's such a good time . It's probably the out of all the games I've got .

It's the one game my wife likes watching as well . It's like a favourite . She would if I've got friends around playing it or playing online nine she'd sit and have a glass of wine , watch it . She loves it it's . It's such a good game . It really is a really good fun that's one of the good games .

Speaker 3

It's got the entertainment value to it , you know yeah , it's easy to watch , it's easy to play , you know but it's one of those ones you've got .

Speaker 2

You're playing it regularly to be good at it , um , and then otherwise you know everyone around you gets better and you lose sort of the touch of it . But yeah , I've played hundreds of hours of that . I would honestly say Dead by Daylight is my number one spot . With Friday , the 13th Online game is my number two Nice , great choices as well .

Speaker 3

That's nice , egg . You mixed it up Bit of indie , bit of AAA , you know , bit of online , bit of multiplayer , bit of everything there . Right , we'll move on to our next category , which is completely mixed up again . Now it is sports . So what about you then , scott ? What's your well , give us ? A few of your faves that lead us up to your number one .

Speaker 2

All right , I'll save my . I've got my top three . To be honest , I don't know how to split them . My top three . I love all of them . But I mean I've got to say people are going to get annoyed with this . But

Sports Game Favorites and Memories

I love all of them . But I mean I've got to say people are going to get annoyed . But I have to mention certain FIFA's because there was times in my life that I just need to talk about . So FIFA 95 , for example , that game was . I remember particularly where I was . I remember the cover art goalkeeper diving across .

I remember I feel like it's the first game . I was in a shop with my mum and I said , and she went do you want a game ? I said can I have that one ? It wasn't like a birthday or Christmas present , it was what game do you want ? I remember it . I remember the same day I got a kicker's jacket brought for me down south in .

Speaker 3

High .

Speaker 2

Street Thought I was going to be cool at school . I remember playing that game every day and I remember I created my own bug on from a certain angle on the pitch and it went in . Every time I'd win 90-0 . And I just , I loved that game .

Speaker 3

And the other FIFA game . That was that isometric view . It was the first time it had been done properly and I remember my mate had it and I saw it and I just went , wow , this is . Can football games get any better ?

Speaker 2

This is how they all had something I think it was FIFA 94 had you could run away from the ref they all had like a bug . Fifa 95 , I think you could score from anywhere . 96 or 97 , you could block the goalkeeper's goal kick and he'd go in as well .

Speaker 3

Which was the first one for the indoor mode , because indoor mode is .

Speaker 2

That , I think , was FIFA 98 . I was going to bring that up in a second .

But the other thing with FIFA 95 , which I love , is I don't know if I recall this , and I hope this is true and not just a blurred memory I should have fact checked this , so let us know in the community corrections Discord if I'm wrong so most Sega Mega Drive games would a lot of them , the early ones would use two buttons because the mask system was two

buttons , wasn't it ? Yeah , so a lot of time you used B and C and you didn't use A and you didn't need to press A on FIFA 95 . I hope I'm right in saying this . This is how I remember it . I pressed A and it just brings up a cheat menu . If you press A on FIFA 95 and what you could put up was invisible wall .

I remember invisible wall and then there was also a big head mode , but invisible wall you kick the ball and it would just ping off somewhere .

Speaker 3

I'm sure it was just paying off somewhere .

Speaker 2

I'm sure it was FIFA 95 .

Speaker 3

I remember a big head mode . I definitely remember a big head mode , but I can't remember a cheat menu .

Speaker 2

I remember there was a crazy , crazy wall Cheat I need . I need to find this out . Let us know at Discord . I don't want to . We've got a lot to go through . But yeah , that was remember that . And in FIFA that and in fifa 98 . I remember talking about george actually recently when we was in liverpool , um , over at format .

We're talking at the bar about you know old memories and I different things and I said fifa 98 .

I remember walking in um and he's a friend of the family , um , like a relative , you know , stepdad's nephew , I think it was , and he had fifa 98 and I think that was the first one with commentary and I walked in and oh , yeah , john Watson yeah it was the first one with commentary . I walked in and I looked at the TV .

I saw the TV was off and I was really confused . And then I looked at the game and I said it's the radio on and I didn't realise that it was commentary on the game and I was blown away and I was blown away .

Speaker 3

Do you know who I remember from that ?

Speaker 2

Yeah , Back to the front .

Speaker 3

Yeah , john Motsen saying he couldn't hit a case backside with a banjo . I always remember that .

Speaker 2

But it was Road to World Cup , FIFA 98 . You had the Blur song too at the start .

Speaker 3

It was so iconic .

Speaker 2

You know , obviously you had the on the early 90s one you had the EA Sports in the game . Once we had the Blur song too . It was a new era of there being fantastic music . They kept up to this day every year . Fifa I know it's gone now , but they had the best music they did in the menus . They always did .

Speaker 3

They're very current the new one now has actually got a very good soundtrack .

Speaker 2

The AFC 25 is a very good soundtrack another thing I remember doing on FIFA 95 as as well , was the transfers were a bit obviously . There wasn't licensing . I don't think until 97 or 98 there weren't the right player names on a FIFA 95 . Fifa 94 in the National Soccer , I think , was the first one .

Then FIFA 95 had the clubs but it wasn't the right names and you could do transfers but it didn't matter , there was no negotiation so . I just sent all the best players to West Ham because that's who I was . So I took all of man United's players , all of Liverpool's players and there was no control in the game . It just was a new feature transfers .

It didn't have any control . So I was just like , yep , I'll have him Come over here . So those are the football ones . Obviously there's a lot to go through . Different genres , I mean for boxing . Fight Night Champion was probably my favourite Fight Night and we've got one coming out . That was the last one . Fight Night Champion .

I really enjoyed NFL Blitz on a Dreamcast . I think it might be called NFL Blitz 2000 , but I love those sort of NFL street games . Nba Street I remember loving it , and basketball playing that in college . I remember NBA Street , I loved it . I had a friend called Sean . I might have said this before previously . I loved the game so much .

Tell him how good it was . I took it around his house to play it and then we played it . He beat me . I couldn't believe he beat me first time playing it . I said play me again . He beat me . I was so annoyed .

We were having a few drinks pre-going out and I was so annoyed after a few bevvies that I kept losing , I get annoyed and leave it at his house . I was like never played it again . But yeah , nba street . Um wrestling games , there's a few . I want to cover royal rumble , first one that I've had . Uh more on a dreamcast .

I know people don't like it , but it's the first game to have more than four people in the ring . That blew my head away . It really did um no mercy and wrestlemania are amazing on the 64 . I know . Um there's a game that george plays . I've got it on the Switch as well . You've had him on the show M Dickie .

Speaker 3

Yeah , what's the game ?

Speaker 2

Empire Wrestling is it ? Wrestling Empire yeah that's awesome , but for me , out of all of them , I've got to say Smackdown 2 , because Smackdown everyone at my school was playing it . We all loved it , but the second one came out . I think the only differences was there was a lot more story text and you could go backstage and it was just a proper .

I feel like that was the first time there was a story mode in a wrestling game . Wrestling game , yeah I feel like that's so that honestly , that's got me buzzing thinking about it now . I absolutely love that , um , and then I mean skateboarding games , the early doors , tony , the second one to introduce the ollie sorry , the um manual , the manual .

Speaker 3

Introduce the manual so you could really you could get your combos going then yeah , so that was revolutionary .

Speaker 2

But then also there was a time in my life , you know , when we all had the o'neill billabong , the flame t-shirts and the beanie hats , I was really into skateboarding . A lot of people in my village that I was living at the time was into skateboarding and a game came out called Skate .

And then everyone who was into skateboarding bitch Tony Hawk said it was arcade and unrealistic . And all of a sudden we all started playing Skate because it was realistic .

Speaker 3

Yeah , doing your tricks with your right analog stick . The way you move that ollie up and down . Yeah , clever game . That Really good . The way you moved that Oli , yeah clever game there .

Speaker 2

Really good , they were awesome . The driving games count . Can we talk about Sega Rally Daytona for sports or not really .

Speaker 3

I was going to add them at a later date as racing games , so we can add them as another genre later .

Speaker 2

We'll leave that another time . Well , I'll leave Road Rash out . Then Destruction Derby , that's a sport . G1 Jockey I'll still ask you in your number one spot ?

Speaker 3

um , I think it's a few in the discord would like it to be my number one spot um , just cut the genres .

Speaker 2

I do want to talk about the snowboarding . I've got a lot of nostalgia for cool borders with my sister , even though I've played all four of them . The first one , the music was so good but me and my sister kareen would sit there playing it . But I swear there was only one mode time trial .

I don't remember there being any game modes until the second one come out . It was very bare bones , but I love that . And then

Classic Game Memories and Favorites

ssx tricky . That was what a game . What a game , yeah , really good game .

Another one that's been talked about in a disco just today , I believe , at time of recording , someone had some NHL games and do you remember , like NHL 94 , 95 , where you could the beat , you beat people up , you'd be fighting , you'd put the refs would allow it , you'd put the sticks down . That was so . Hockey games were really good .

And I tell you what my local shop . They had NHL 95 or 96 or 94 . One of them , he had a box of sealed ones and I remember saying they're never going to shift , but seeing the Discord people talking about them and thinking about them now and talking about them out loud . Do you know what , even though I'm not a hockey fan .

They were such fun games they were almost funner . It was funner than the sport itself . Yeah , definitely .

Speaker 3

How about that ? I loved them back in the day , but I didn't even .

Speaker 2

I didn't even follow hockey , yeah it just . It brought hockey to us over here , didn't it ? Yeah , brilliant , um . So just to wrap up , um with golf games . I loved um I think it's the first one other than donkey kong . Mario was in and that was golf .

On the game boy I remember playing it , going on a holiday on a plane and taking a you you know I used to have those little water things on a plane when he went , but I remember finally having a Game Boy being on a plane and you'd worry , thinking if you turned it on , the plane's going to fall out of the sky .

I remember playing the golf game and absolutely loving that . But out of all of the golf games , I did a comparison out of all the best Mario Golf games when the new one on Switch came out and everyone thought it was going to be the Game Cubans Going mad at me in the comments .

But for me , the N64 version , because I love it's gone now Because with games people have money talks so you can pay to unlock things . You play an RPG , people have got the best armour and skins because they paid for it . But back in the day , um , and a lot of our listeners will know , this is all the hardcore gamers .

You had to unlock and earn things . Now , in mario golf 64 , you started off with two characters and until you beat a character you didn't get another one , so you had to beat them to get them . So you could unlock all 30 characters by beating them , and that just made the game so fun . And they obviously all get harder .

So you've got mario luigi , then you've got Toad , then you've got oh , it's so good . Absolutely love that game . Fantastic , I think I'm at my top .

Speaker 3

Come on , then let's give it at top . Are these all joint top or ?

Speaker 2

okay , I'm going to split them . Third , it's an arcade game track and field I love , right .

Speaker 3

So I'll say that's a good show , international .

Speaker 2

I'll explain in a minute . So third is track and field . Um , and I've actually got an arcade , original , dedicated cab . Um , I've got a fake on a . There's a few cabs in here , one of them's like a jammer cab , an original arcade . I've put the little marquee of track and field on there , but I've got my .

I I've put the little marquee of track and field on there , but I've got my . I've got a friend who is selling a track and field cab , but I can't get into this . There's not enough room and he's getting them upstairs and it's very tempting to me . But yeah , track and field , absolutely love that . I'll tell you why . In a second , kirby is Punch Out .

It's my number one game . Mike Tyson , punch Out , I can play that every year . Absolutely love that . Love Punch Out . I think it's superb . The Mike Tyson one phenomenal . But my number one game which I love is Hypersports 84 . And the reason why that ? In track and field , I'd never heard this . I'd never heard this game . I was born in 87 .

You know that's 84 . I never heard this game . Um , so there was a local arcade called neon night to bar arcade . You know kids could go in there but it was licensed bar . You know it's open till late , um , till 12 , and you know I was like a bit of furniture in there .

You know I used to help out there some nights , um , and they had in the corner track and field with a dual switch and it would go to hypersports and it was left on hypersports . Well , it's one night and um , I was just talking to the owners in there , they were showing me how you play it .

Um , this guy called dave and , uh , neon dave we should call him because that was his name and he , he was showing me how to and I remember each night I'd get a bit further . So me and I had a friend called tom who lived two doors down from the arcade and he'd come in there with me even though it wasn't't Instagram , but he got him into it .

We'd meet in there for a few drinks before going out and I remember getting stuck on each bit in the archery and I got so good at the game I become the best , almost best person in there . I got all the way to the end and then you can loop the game . And then I even worked out like there's some like Easter egg cheats and I got a perfect technique .

I remember getting to each stage and I remember I struggled in the pole vault at the end and I finally worked out how to do that . But yeah , I absolutely love hypersports and track and field because of my memories I've got . When that Neon Knights closed down , I honestly had tears in my eye . It was such good memories .

Speaker 3

That's what it's about , though , isn't it ? You get so many times you tell someone about a game you loved back in the day and they go oh , that was rubbish , but it might have been rubbish to you . That's where you were and what you were doing when you were playing it . That's what came .

Speaker 2

Exactly Spot on when you were in that moment of time . Yeah , brilliant .

Speaker 3

Yeah .

Speaker 2

Sorry , that's my Sorry . I know there's a lot there , so I'll let you get stuck .

Speaker 3

No , you've covered quite a lot of me Early FIFAs . I remember my ex-girlfriend at the time . She bought me a PlayStation and then later on down the line I bought FIFA 98 , and I sat down there with a few cheap French lagers . I was in my late teens , early 20s , and played all the way through a World Cup , won the World Cup of England .

Just thought , what a game this is . You know , love that . Um ea hockey . Like you say , grabbing someone around the throat and having a punch up in the middle of a hockey match oh , mate , so good , I want to play that now .

Speaker 2

I'll play that now .

Speaker 3

My mate had at the school and my mate said , oh , I've got ea hockey . Oh hockey , that's boring . He went no , I just had a fight and later blow game and I'm like what right ?

Speaker 2

oh tell you , what have you played ? There's an indie game to make me think of it . I haven't played it , but everyone was talking about at one point . It was called , I think , called super blood hockey . It's on the switch and literally it was a throw . So , yeah , we'll have to check that out . Um , anyone in this school you played it let us know .

So it was a throwback to old hockey games and they basically know what people want and they've made an over the top like have you ever played um red card in the arcade where you can punch people in a football game ? I think that might be the other one .

Speaker 3

I've got it on a PS2 , red card .

Speaker 2

Yeah , I'm sure there was a football game in the arcade where you could punch and kick and there was no red cards , basically . But yeah , it's a bit like that , so it encourages fighting and stuff , and yeah , that might be one for us to check out . Oh , that sounds really good yeah , they were awesome .

Speaker 3

Sorry , go on , buddy . The Pro Evolution Soccer was really big into that back in the day that divided people , didn't it ? Oh yeah , you was FIFA or you was Pro . Even I was always early FIFA . And then me and my mate shared a haste and our neighbour come round one day and said thanks for going to football .

He went yeah , right on the PlayStation 1 , this one Thanks for going to . He went yeah , right on the PlayStation 1 , this one Fancy game of football . Yeah , yeah , no , worries , but he's going . I said what's this ? This isn't FIFA . And he went no , no , no , no .

I want to show you something there , son , and we played a match and I was like this is better than FIFA . I think I like it more than FIFA . And then got into the Master . The only reason I stopped playing Pro Evo is because , when the PS4 came out , they launched Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 on the PS3 and the PS2 , not the PS4 .

So it's the last game made for the PS2 . Hence , it goes for a lot of money now . So 2014 was the last . I mean who was making games ?

Speaker 2

Anyway . So then I think FIFA 17 , I think with Ronaldo on it , on the 360 city money , for the same reason , because it was the last game .

Speaker 3

So I , because I was going to be a year without a football game . I jumped over to FIFA and I hadn't really sort of looked back and obviously Pro Evo's gone where it's . But yeah , great memories of that . Um , you mentioned another great one nba street . Oh yeah , me and my mate playing that .

Oh great , the music and that when you used to do your , your special move , when you used to do that and then used to do your special dunks and that suit and then used to get beat . A team take their best player and involve your team as you went through the different areas . So much fun .

Speaker 2

I say what I did forget was NBA Jam . Do you remember that in the arcade as well ? That is my next one . That's my next one . Oh sorry , NBA Jam , yeah . Yeah , boom , shakalaka , yeah , boom , that's what made me think you said that noise and I was thinking boom , shakalaka .

Speaker 3

Did you know that there ?

Speaker 2

was a developer's code cheat in there . Did you know this ? Oh , I've heard about this .

Classic Sports Game Favorites

Speaker 3

I saw this on YouTube .

Speaker 2

So the developers of the game ? So who was rivals with Chicago Bulls ? I think it was Boston , yeah , other side of the Michigan Lake , so , yeah , so Boston Celtics . So if you was tied in the game against Bulls , against Celtics , and you had a point , you know like an and one or a free throw or whatnot , it would never go in . It was impossible .

It didn't matter how you threw it , it never . They bugged it on purpose . And he said it like 20 years later I thought do you know what ? I'm a Chicago Bulls fan . But I thought , fair play .

Speaker 3

That's a great . Got that power . Yeah , I'm putting that in um . So yeah , nba jam . Mega drive great memories of that still jump back onto that nowadays . I've got loads of versions of it's all satin and bits and pieces , but it's always that mega drive one I jumped to .

Or arcade I mean last year when we were at timeless , we were playing that in the arcade . It was great fun . Um , super kickoff loved that . On the mega drive . Super kickoff was a great game .

Speaker 2

I get that . I remember the box art I forgot . I remember on the snes , um what I might . I think I'm thinking of a top down one um italia 90 , that was , uh , so good . That just come as a compilation like that was early sort of my system and mega drive , I think yeah so I love that , um , everybody's Golf .

Speaker 3

Now , I had that on . Yeah , I've had that on most systems PS I think it was the PS Vita one and the PS what was ? Ps3 , I believe , or PS4 . I've got so many hours in it , Max to game out . My character is max . I'd beat everyone driving 400 yards . Brilliant , Absolutely loved it it sorry .

Speaker 2

Have you got any more ? Have you got any more football games on your list ?

Speaker 3

um , oh , I've got really curious . My number one keep quiet one's popped it . Uh , one's popped to my head I know you're gonna say that's probably what my number one is , I reckon no , I doubt it .

Speaker 2

We'll see remind me later . Yeah .

Speaker 3

Cool Borders um , yes , had that on . Uh , it was a packing game I got with my PS1 . I got Cool Borders and I got Gran Turismo um , and I just played both of them to death . Cool Borders I go back now . I'm terrible at it . At the time I was nailing thousands of points that come with a console for you .

In those two games I got a later one , and I got a special packing box .

Speaker 2

That's pretty cool , isn't it ?

Speaker 3

Yeah , I got Gran Turismo and Cool Borders . Now I can't remember if that was packed in the box as artwork on the box or whether it was a special offer where I got the two games with the system . I can't remember . I know I got it packed in Prince Nazeem Boxing , boxing playstation one . Do you know what I've got that ?

Um , I put loads of hours in that .

Speaker 2

I don't know . I don't remember it being that great . I played it not too long ago , a few years ago , but I don't remember it being first game of rage quit out followed me controller out the window .

Speaker 3

I was just , you know , I was just like I kept going gun home and not defensive , and this guy kept laying me out and I could not beat him . Yeah , that controller got volleyed out the window . Problem was it still plugged into the console . So so the console followed yeah , but yeah , I love that .

Speaker 2

I've got a funny Rage Quit story for you as well at the end .

Speaker 3

The early PGA games . I played them a lot Mega Drive .

Speaker 2

As you brought it up , because it's about PGA . You can ask my missus about this right . So at my dad's house when I was living there , you know , like you know , your partner would stay over , you'd stay over there .

So before we had our own place , she stayed round and she , like , for the first time , and there a perfect right angle , cut out in the middle of your curtain and , um , I said I bit it . She knew what I said , I bit it . So basically , I was playing a tiger woods game . I was playing it .

I got so frustrated because they're so realistic , I turned , so I was on a really good like par , you know . And then , like I messed up the shot when I went over and I turned and I just I was sitting on in the bed , the curtain was there and I bit my teeth and I pulled out the centre . It looks like a massive moth .

I just took out a perfect triangle and I bit out a piece of the curtain . I couldn't believe it .

Speaker 3

I've never known anyone to raise so much a bit of hole in the curtain .

Speaker 2

That is amazing do you know what ? Until you mentioned the game , sorry about that Well ?

Speaker 3

no , because Tiger Woods is on there as well . 07 , 08, . They're arcade golf , but God , are they good fun to play ? Yeah , you probably heard on the show . But me and my brother-in-law , when we meet up occasionally , I just keep buying these random golf games .

Speaker 2

Yeah , you play some real . I've never heard of half of them . The last one you played I was like wow , wow , what's that ? I'll ? Um , I'll look out for some this weekend , see if I see any , and I'll message you , because I know you . You give them all a good crack , don't you ?

Speaker 3

yeah , yeah , I've got . I mean , I've even got one here . Look , it's not very good for an audio show , but that's one we've got to play soon , look , nick faldo's golf oh yeah , I'll see you 32 . Yeah , yeah , that's gonna be another one , but yeah , so yeah , tiger woods demo 70809 , even up to 12 when they started adding in the move features as well .

Yeah , um , great fun to play . Obviously can't go back saying tony hawks , one , two and three , you covered that . Tony hawks , to chuck the manual in , start doing the combos soundtrack , everything . That's how you make . You know , never soft nailed that with how to make a skate game . Then obviously , onto skates , you covered them .

They were something different , took it up to the next level , really , really good , and I think I've covered most of those . Now my number one .

Speaker 2

G1 Jockey .

Speaker 3

Other than G1 Jockey .

Speaker 2

G1 Jockey 2008 .

Speaker 3

I think everyone's going to know what I'm going to say . I've loved this game all my life . Back in the day when I first built the game shed , I used to run game tournaments here and this was one of the very first tournaments I ran , and I still love this game to this day , and that is Sensible Soccer .

Speaker 2

Oh , yes , I see there's been a sort of homage remaster . No , sorry , an indie game on a Switch has come out like it . It's called similar name . I know it doesn't play like it . What is that ? It's come out recently .

Speaker 3

There is one . I don't know if it's out yet or is now just out , but it's actually by I think it's by John O'Hare , who made the original .

Speaker 2

It's called the same . I'm sorry , it's got a similar name , I think it's Sociable Soccer , isn't it ? That's it . You're right , spot on .

Speaker 3

Sociable Soccer . That's the original bloke who made it , obviously , but he doesn't earn a license to it , so he's had to change it . I thought that was out . I love this game . The playability was amazing . I was a big fan of Cannon Fodder as well the sensible software guys . I loved Cannon Fodder .

Speaker 2

Oh , I loved it on my Amiga .

Speaker 3

But Sensible Soccer was one of the first really , really , really playable games . And then they'd done Sensible World of Soccer , and then you had Transverse . Are you good at it , rgt ? I don't know if I'm good at it , I love playing a lot .

Speaker 2

It's a shame because I know you can't play Expo in Blackpool , which I'm going to after this show , if I can get a flight out of El Paso once this concussion is off . But they did last year . They did a sensible soccer tournament on the stage . It was on a massive projector in front of hundreds of people room full of gamers Bar was open .

It was a good old crack and uh and a good old sound awesome and they had all the microcomputers and a lot of people were playing it on the , on the microcomputers .

Speaker 3

You know that's one of the go-to . I mean I've got it on , I've got it on various I've got a mega drive , I've got it on the atari jaguar , um , but it's the amiga version I didn't know it was on the Jaguar . Yes , I'll get it on .

Speaker 2

Oh , brilliant , Because I've got the Jaguar but I didn't know it was on there .

Speaker 3

Yeah , I got lucky . I think I paid £35 a couple of years ago for it . I got absolutely mint box copy , absolutely mint .

Speaker 2

Oh mate , I'll just get a loose car . I'd love to give that a whirl , yeah market so I never get to play it .

Speaker 3

But if you're on the amiga competition pro little joysticks , you can get that curl on the ball . Brilliant fun , yeah , um . But if you've got a modern console I spoke about this the other week what I've been playing super arcade soccer it's on the switch , it's on the ps5 . It's about seven pound to download .

It's a love letter to sensible soccer and it's got a little little light career mode to it . Good fun , play that . That is brilliant , brilliant to play . But yeah , my number one sports game is sensible that's a really good choice .

Speaker 2

I feel like that's the most popular um you know for any retro game of 100 . It's definitely that standard test of time . It's one of those ones you know different generations that absolutely love that game . That's a really really good , solid choice .

Speaker 3

Brilliant brilliant choice . Yeah , really , really clever design , really how they've done it the little sprite characters . But rather than construct the graphics , they concentrated on gameplay , which made the game so good . Yeah , the goals you can score , that's a great shout . Are we gonna do one more ?

Speaker 2

I was to say , yeah , there's we could do one more and then we could save the other . It's about another four or five categories which we could do for a part two . Exactly , exactly , yeah , great so right .

Speaker 3

So moving on to our last category of this , one of game genres , and our favorites in them , genres , is fps first person shooters . So whose turn does it go to first ?

I think it's your go now , buddy um right , as most people know , I didn't play first person shooters for a lot of years because I actually got motion sickness from them a lot um , yeah , I heard you say that actually yeah yeah , um , I get it from vr and obviously that silent hill was a one-off , but I can't say I've had it from shooters , so that's why

I'll tell what . I've worked out what it was and now I've sort of managed to deal with it and I've gone back . That's why I've been playing through Halos and different bits and pieces , but anyway , You're doing cartwheels with Longhorn again in the lawn .

Speaker 2

Oh , I've only done that once and you got dizzy .

Speaker 3

Yeah , I'm not doing that , they were special cartwheels . No , the reason is , when you play a first-person shooter , you're obviously looking from the person's eyes , but you're moving the screen . When you're in CR and I'm in first person , I'm moving my own head . So I'm not feeling sick , but that's because the screen was moving .

But I think my brain was telling me hang on , your head's not moving .

Speaker 2

And it used to really mess me up and to the stage because you've got what's a tv tube ? Sorry to interrupt . Was a tv too big ? Is it because your peripheral vision maybe was been used like if you've got a small monitor , you just straight through tunnel vision did you have a very large tv um , not so much back in the day , but then I was quite young .

Speaker 3

So probably was probably was quite big to me when I was younger . Maybe you weren't sitting close enough , yeah , probably . But yeah , it was just I don't know and I just didn't plan for a lot of years . But then recently , or say recently , last few years , I thought , well , I've missed out on so many big franchises , let's try it .

And then I think it was Boba from our Discord , our community manager . He said to me why don't you try the older games where they're less res , less graphics , less going on ? And then see it and that's what I've been doing and touch wood .

Speaker 2

Well , I know it's going to come up here then , because , yeah , I've heard you mention some great franchises that you've been playing through , so yeah , I'll let you go away with these ones .

Speaker 3

Yeah , mine's quite limited because I haven't first person was . I haven't played too many . I am going to start my next one in the next couple of weeks , which is going to be Half-Life . I can't wait to play Half-Life . Yes , yes , I haven't played that , but I have been playing through . I'm now up to Halo I need to get it finished , but nearly finished .

Halo four . So I've done one , two , three and four um and I've been playing the bioshocks . I played one , two and three of bioshocks , um . I think my probably my favorite

First Person Shooter Favorites and Memories

because I haven't played many . I'll go . I don't know if bioshocks can be classed as first person shooter , because they're more of a first person adventure . I suppose , aren't they ? What do you think ? Do you think they're ?

Speaker 2

I'd call that first person shooter . Yeah , anything , there's a few . I speak , there's a few games . I was thinking crossover categories and I was like , do you know what ? No , because that is , you know . If it's more than one category , that's fine . So , yeah , I'd say it is Well , I really loved .

Speaker 3

Halo 1 , 2 , and 3 . I'd probably do it in the order of I think I'd probably like 3 , the best , 1 , and then 2 . And I haven't finished 4 , so I'll leave my opinion on that . Bioshock , I think . Oh , it's close between one and two .

Speaker 2

I think two is probably my favourite out of that with one a close behind , and then three didn't quite do it as much . That's what you played recently , wasn't it ? Yeah , number three , yeah .

Speaker 3

But I think , probably my favourite . I know it's not many games because I haven't played many of them . There was games , you know it's probably in the horror category , but like a few of the walking sims , like vanishing of ethan carter , um , I'm trying to think what the other one was .

I can't quite remember what the other one was , um , but I've played a few of those walk . Oh , everybody's gone to the rapture . That's not really first person shooter , but first person . I think Bioshock 2 is probably my favourite . I know it's a short category because I haven't played many , but yeah , bioshock 2 .

Speaker 2

I heard Digital Monkery say about everyone's going to the Raptor . I think he said that was the reason why he got a PS4 . Is that right ? Is that the game he said ?

Speaker 3

Yes , yes , it is .

Speaker 2

I've not played that because that's another one which I'm gonna want .

Speaker 3

It's very unique , it's it's not a first person shoot by any means . It's just I mentioned it because it was first person and that was more one I got into , but it is . It's quite unique because it is a walking sim .

It's set in a english village and everyone has disappeared and you just walk around and try and find out where everyone has gone , and it's quite . It's sometimes a bit eerie because no one's there , but you hear the birds and the trees you know . So yeah , it's different but definitely worth playing . But yeah , bioshock 2 for me . What about you , scott ?

Speaker 2

I apologise if I mention some which you've already said , only because the concussion of me falling over seems to have affected the internet as well and I wobbled out for a few seconds . My first one is going to be Doom OG Doom . I was just looking in the corner . I'm hoping I'm sure I've got it on dual case on the PS1 .

I need to find it because I'm hoping to bump into John Romero , who was there last year . He was inviting people to play him at Deathmatch . He was one of the the . I think he's on the level design , one of the creators of I think it's a main man .

Speaker 3

He's a main man .

Speaker 2

So , yeah , I got to meet him last year . I'm hoping he's going to be there this weekend so I'm hoping to take the game and get him to sign it . Um , but my , uh , yeah , my early memories of that game was I can't remember it was when I was at primary school and I was at a .

It was a friend , like my parents were friends with someone , and then they're kids and you know like you get left there after school and whatnot , and they had a PC . I think it's a bit older than me . He had all the games or whatever it was his dad's games .

And then we had Doom on the PC and I remember , I swear to God , it was about seven floppy disks and there was like a certain order where you're in DOS and you have to load it up . I remember it being on different disks . So I've got very good nostalgia for that . There are some rail shooters as well , like House of the Dead , which is fantastic .

You know , you've got to sort of mention , I feel like , some first-person shooters , some good co-op ones as well . Yeah , left 4 Dead 2 , dead Rising 2 , like co-op Left 4 Dead Me and my friend Pat would love to play that . I know . Again , that's a bit of a different sort of genre , sort of like an action hellblaster of a horror game , if you like .

But yeah , that's absolutely awesome Now where it all started and the reason why I feel like Pod's gone where it is . I know it's carried on going . But Medal of Honor on the PlayStation the first one , the opening credits the American has dark biscuits in his pocket .

Like the campaign where you take the Nazi passport sorry , the German passport to get through to different sections , like that game was so good and so realistic . You know we get dropped off on the front line and then you're storming the beaches like very impactful in a very oh that for the time , that was really really something .

Um , that was probably my it's got to be a favorite . Um , that was first person shoot . It wasn't . It wasn't a third person yeah , I'm sure that was first person um , I'd say on the ps1 . Um , yeah , you mentioned half life , half life and quake and some real ogs , even time splitters in the arcade .

Um , there was an aliens game which is first person shooters as well . I remember an alien trilogy and that was really good for having that on the ps1 yeah , um , they've done a very there's , there's .

Speaker 3

I'll tell you one I'd like to play and that's alien vs Predator on the Jaguar . That's supposed to be good , really fancy that , but it's always been a bit pricey .

Speaker 2

I'm sure I picked that up recently .

Speaker 3

I think I picked up at Wolverhampton at Revival probably arguably , the best game on the Jaguar no , sorry , I'm wrong .

Speaker 2

I picked up Doom and Wolfenstein and then everyone said the third game to get for the system , um , was oh , yes , I could take it for the jack . You , I'll get him signed that as well , because maybe you think , um , the third one was a diverse predator . But you're right , it's expensive , so I haven't got that . Sorry , yeah , I haven't got that one . Um .

A couple of online ones , more modern , but battlefield one , no , battle battlefront , I can't . It was like a sort of World War 1 , you know , one person would be a medic , one person's got the rifle to reload . That was a fun online game . You know there was no machine gun or anything like that . And then Star Wars Battlefront .

Was that first person or was it third ? The online Star Wars Battlefront ? No , I'm sure it was first person . First person , yeah , star Wars .

Speaker 1

Battlefront . No , I'm sure it was first person .

Speaker 3

It was first person because , you could be .

Speaker 2

It took them turns . You didn't know if you was going to be Darth Vader and it was really cool and you'd be the Emperor and like you could literally do everything . I'd play for hours and you'd only get to be in once and then you'd do rubbish . You'd be like , no , I need to play again . So that was a lot of her .

Friends were playing online , didn't know whether to be , yeah , which side of the fence you wanted to be . You wanted to be the good guys or the bad guys . Another online one I loved and guys , let me know in the Discord because I haven't played the new one , but I haven't played the first one either Payday 2 . I'm sure we're on three or four now .

Payday 2 is a heisting game so I didn't have any friends that played it , but I just played at randoms online and you'd literally rock up and it starts off small . You rob a jewellery store and the police come and then there'd be banks and it would be like a bit like GTA better levels of police , you know swaps coming .

Speaker 3

Yeah , it's a bit of planning , isn't it ?

Speaker 2

Yeah , but then some of them got really far-fetched and it would robbery over days , um , like different events , not real lifetime days , but and then you don't and then you can get . It was very realistic .

So like you're about to get all the diamonds or money in the back of a van and then , just before the van dries off you , someone online could just kill you and take your share of the money . It was really realistic . So you could get done over and because I didn't have any friends that I played with online a lot of the time .

If it was a you know , say you and a friend playing , he didn't know me then all of a sudden yeah I was getting my loot taken , so that did happen . Um rain yeah , rainbow six siege . I love that online as well . Um , another throwback one . Um , like doom , I've wanted to play , which I think limited run did . Um was dusk .

I know that's an indie game that everyone goes on about which I've seen a lot of footage of . I would like to play that , but I really don't know . To be honest , when I was younger I used to love first-person shooters . I really don't know what my top spot is . I just named all the games that I could think of from retro and modern games .

I've got good stories and memories of , and nostalgia ink of . From retro and modern games . I've got good stories and memories of , and nostalgia , but I mean , I'd say medal of honor or doom . I think I'd have to say there's I could argue reasons why each of them are very good . Um , rainbow six siege I still absolutely love that online .

I really don't know what you might have a top three . Yeah , what's been the most impactful for me ? I mean in terms of online Rainbow Six Siege Online absolutely love that . I'm sure that's class as a first person shooter me and Mrs Love completing House of the Dead whenever we go to arcades . I've got memories of all of them because they're mostly co-op .

But I even left for Dead 2 . I'll probably have to go . Doom and Medal of Honor I can't split them , because they both both were yeah , both were amazing . I couldn't split those two . Share the gold medal .

Speaker 3

Brilliant , nah , listen , obviously , yeah , got a lot more experience in first person games than me , but hopefully I'll build build up my backlog of those and get through a few and see how I do . Really , but that's good , I enjoyed that .

Speaker 2

Yeah , no thank you for the recommendations and guys , let us know in the Discord . I thought you didn't have a chance to say to anyone . You know , let us know your recommendations . Good idea , yeah , and we could have them to the list . So I'll tell you what we'll do .

Anyone in Discord , add in your favourite games for each of those genre and when we do part two , we'll do some honourable mentions horrible mentions yeah , good idea .

Speaker 3

members of discord so , yeah , so we've got open world horror sports or first person shooters . Stick your recommendations down . We'll get them noted down . We'll give you a shout out when we do the next episode of this and um . It might even be ones that me and scott haven't played . We can then jump on them . We'll let you know how we get on with them .

So brilliant . There might be ones you haven't played that you've heard us talk about .

Speaker 2

Shall we leak the next genres in the part two , or shall we leave that as a surprise ? We'll leave that as a surprise . We'll leave it as a surprise . We'll leave it as a surprise .

Speaker 3

I think we'd probably better move on to what you're hoping to play in the next coming weeks , Scott .

Speaker 2

I'm going to finish Lake . I've got to make a decision on that . I can't just leave it . The thing is with me , right ? I'm not . You know , people need closure and they need to finish something . I've got quite good willpower with certain things . So , for example , I've watched every episode of Lost ever made right .

And then everyone's said Lost , the last episode really annoyed them . So

Gaming Updates and Subscriber Appreciation

I watched every episode and I've never watched the last episode and shall I just leave Lake now .

Speaker 3

I could do that . No , don't do that and not make the decision . Don't do it , don't do it .

Speaker 2

So we're going to play some more PlayStation Plus games . There's some classic games I want to play on there . You know some games I want to play just while they're on there , in case they're a limited time . I want to play more of Conscript . I want to play more of those , um , and then just some of the recommendations that you've thrown at me .

I think I might have to play a bit of hockey , oh bit of a hockey have a punch up , yeah , um .

Speaker 3

Well for me , I think I'm definitely gonna be straight back on astrobot um , some more arkham asylum , definitely more the afc 25 um and just more . I've got some more games coming from the othercade um , which I've all got about 10 games on . So I'll be dipping in and out of arcade classics and hidden gem arcade games I .

I suppose you could say that's pretty much what I'll be playing this week . I've probably got Give Hyper Sports a go .

Speaker 2

It's on every system , it's even on the . Switch for like £2 . I think they call it Arcade Archives or something like that , or Arcade Classics , and they're on the eShop for like £1.99 each .

Speaker 3

That sounds very interesting because it sounds something that's so much fun and you can just keep keep grinding it to get better and better and get further in . But yeah , I'm definitely up for that . Um , I think we better move on to our subscribers now . If you've ever heard , or ever heard us talk about subscribers . Basically , we have a little tier system .

Um , the show is free , the show will always be free , but we have some legends in our discord and people who listen who like to chip into the helping of the run under the show .

Um , and I know people say this all the time on youtube and podcasts but it is expensive to run shows , with costs and equipment and bits and pieces , and this always goes such a long way and we can't thank people enough for chipping into the show each and every month .

Um , and it makes things like events and it makes things like things we put on and the show weekly and being able to do merch and stuff . It makes it so much easier .

Um , and we're also saying at the minute if you do , if you are interested in joining , if you are interested in becoming a sub , even if you join at the bottom tier , which you do , if you are interested in joining .

If you are interested in becoming a sub , even if you join at the bottom tier , which is $3 , we will throw you a T-shirt , so you can't go much more wrong than that what a deal . You can't go wrong than that . So we'll chuck you a good T-shirt . I will quickly read the tiers out . We have $3 , which is you get read out on every show .

We get $5 , which is read out on every show , and you get our yearly art merch . We always call it the album covers . So we change the artwork , normally yearly or just after each year , and you'll get a piece depending on what we decide to do that year either a fridge , magnet , key ring , poster , wall art we'll do something and you'll get that every year .

Eight dollars , you get better and if we show , you get the yearly art merch . You get access to our inglorious chat . So if you ever wondered what the inglorious chat is , it is a section of our discord , um , which is linked off for the people from that tier .

So all the rest of the discord is free , but we have a little private chat as a little bonus for the people from that tier . So all the rest of discord is free , but we have a little private chat as a little bonus for the people that pay that amount each , each month . Ten dollars is the last one that is read out on every show .

You get the yearly art merch , you get the access to the unglorious chat , plus you get a quarterly zoom chat with the host . I'll be doing another one of those in the next couple of weeks . We've done one already very successful . Plenty of people come on . Um , I thought it would be just a half an hour chat with people about things .

Well , that went on an hour and a half . We were talking about our pickups , our games rooms , our collections . We went on to games , pass and playstation , plus premium and digital games and everything . And that was just great to sit down , have a couple of beers , chat with your game and mates really good fun . So if any of that interests you , brilliant .

If it doesn't , don't worry , the show is always free . You download it anywhere , um , but it just just does . Give us that little tip just to help us as we go along with the show . Um , and also , what we'll do now is we will read out those sub people .

Um , do you want to start us off there , scott , because I don't like reading this one okay , so this one is the one man , george fan club . Carlos , that is a mouth carlos carlos , and we've got firm returns legend um , then we've got trestles . New york then we've got oh , the fantastic badabinkster .

Speaker 2

And Badabinkster . Hopefully , by the time you listen to this , there will be a mug coming to you .

Speaker 3

So I owe you a mug . So that'll be coming very soon , lucky boy .

Speaker 2

Then we've got .

Speaker 3

Tingle Tuna . Then we've got the awesome Digital Munkery and he is awesome , him and Mrs Digital Munkery . They run a challenge accepted on our discord different game each month with a different either high score or time . This month's one grand turismo high speed ring who can get the

Community Discord and Gaming Challenges

quickest lap time ? The thing is it's great fun taking part anyway , but mrs digital mongery is a fantastic artist and she makes a one-off sticker for that month's competition , so the winner it gets either , like this month , whoever gets the quickest time around the high speed ring on grand turismo gets his awesome sticker .

So if you want to be part of that , jump on the discord I'll tell you what .

Speaker 2

Normally it starts on the first day of each month . But um , the monkries digital monkry said I'm sorry , monkries is on youtube , so digital monkries and a discord . He said he let it start early . So he always announces the game . He says get to the practice . Scores don't start . And I tell you what I've never seen so many people take part in them .

First couple of days Everyone's been jumping on it , rampage Talks , crawled out the woodwork again and everyone's hitting it so hard , other than you're going to get this fantastic sticker . But I'll tell you what as well everyone's put a great effort in . We'll throw in a mug as well .

Speaker 3

So I'll send the mug to whoever wins .

Speaker 2

So there's a little free , exclusive Whoever listens . Another reason why to get in the Discord , get in change accepted and get my time in . I looked for Gran Turismo and I couldn't find it that wasn't your electrician again was it ? I'm starting to think now . I'll be better off sitting in the dark , I don't know where the games are your electrician .

Speaker 3

He didn't have a mullet , a moustache , and a boy called Wayne , did he ? He didn't turn up with his own bluebirds .

Speaker 2

You know what I'm starting to think ? It could be the ghost of Stingray . Yeah Right , so we've got next Roast , Space Monk .

Speaker 3

Brilliant the Gaming Graham Bald , balder legend , yeah , and the one and only community manager , boba .

Speaker 2

Yeah , got to meet Boba awesome guy . It feels a bit weird reading this one out . Marathon Gaming .

Speaker 3

Who the hell is that guy ?

Speaker 2

I don't know , that's what happens when you hit your head ? You start saying your own name , even though you're in the room .
