Foreign. Welcome to Digital Bites.

This is Chris welcoming you to my series using ChatGPT with your iPhone. This is part one of a five part series. Maybe I want to know how to do something in particular with a particular Office product. Maybe I want to create an image and that was really fun to do with Aira and I'll talk about that at some point. But a lot of times when I have instructions from Chat GPT, there are a lot of extra formatting characters. Maybe there's markup, maybe there are stars, asterisks, that sort of thing. And it really annoys me and I don't need to hear all that verbiage. So I had a little conversation recently with Mr. GPT and I asked it to format things in a special way for me so that I could then use them later. Maybe paste this conversation or the details into a document for future reference in my teaching or just for my own reference moving forward. So this is the conversation that I had with ChatGPT. I'm using my iPhone here to show you this conversation. And so I ask can you always.

Provide answers with no special formatting or characters for a person who is using a screen reader? And ChatGPT says yes, I can't always. Provide answers with no special formatting or special characters. I will write everything in plain text, clearly structured and optimized for someone using a screen reader like voiceover. If you ever need me to change the structure or provide extra description or spacing, just let me know.

That's very helpful. Thank you so much. And I think that what we can all learn from this is how to ask for what we want. So we want things in plain text, no special characters for person using a screen reader. And so then I say, can you.

Always do this even if I move on to a different conversation or close my browser? And he says, I will always follow your preference within a conversation. But if you close the browser or start a new session, I may not remember this unless you explicitly tell me again. However, I can remember this preference across all future conversations if you want. Would you like me to always provide plaintext answers with no special formatting or characters written clearly for a screen reader user? If you say yes, I'll save it now and apply it automatically going forward.

That's very handy. And I answer yes, all right. Doesn't get any harder than this. It's just knowing what to say. And so that is my tip. How to say what you want, how to get the information in the way that works best for you. And then asking ChatGPT to save it across all platforms and future conversations. And and of course you can always remind it, hey, we need to not have these special characters or stars. But in my experience so far it is remembering to do that.

Accessing Notifications with Voiceover so the first thing you would want to do is make sure that your voiceover cursor is all the way up at the very very top bar. Up there you'll find things like the time wifi. You need to make sure that the voiceover cursor is set on one of those items all the way at the very very top. Once you do that, you do a three finger swipe down and it will open up the notification center and you'll be able to see all the notifications that you have right there on that screen.

Hi everyone, it's Desiree and today I want to show you how to change the device type on your meta glasses. Now you might be thinking why would I want to do that right? My meta glasses will work as a headset if I want it to so that I can hear voiceover and my music and everything when I put the glasses on. But for several reasons I feel like it's necessary to change the device type on the glasses. Sometimes I want to isolate voiceover and put it through my phone speaker and not have it come through the glasses. Or maybe I want to stick an airpod in and hear voiceover only and then just hear my music and things through my glasses. And so today I just want to go through the settings menu and show you how to change the device type of the glasses. And you can do this with most of your Bluetooth devices. Not all of them, but a lot of them. You can. So first I'm going to go into my settings menu settings heading okay and then I'm going to go to Bluetooth.

Devices Search dictate family Airplane mode WI fi Bluetooth on button Bluetooth heading okay. And then I'm going to find my meta glasses so I'm going to swipe down until I get to meta glasses.

Connect to access Bluetooth switch this iPhone is disk my devices Heading Desiree's Apple Watch TV Samsung 8 Rabbitry Slumber Braille Sense 600 Cozy Band Desiree's EarPods Desiree's Air Pup Desiree's Air Pup Open COM2 by Shop Open Run by RB Meta Vocaster Bay RB Meta 000V Connected Button Actions available There they are. Now instead of double tapping I'm going to make sure that I am on actions and I'm going To go to more info. Actions activate more info. There's more info.

And I'm going to double tap, show message notifications. Switch button off. Okay, now at the very bottom is device type. So I'm going to do a four finger down at the bottom of my screen. Forget this device button and then swipe left. Device type speaker button right here. So I have it set to speaker right now. I'm going to go show you your options. I'm going to double tap here. Car stereo. Okay, it can be a car stereo. Swipe right. Headphone. Headphone. Hearing aid.

Hearing aid selected. Speaker and speaker. Now, by default, the glasses select themselves as headphone. I have mine set to speaker because when I do that, it changes where voiceover comes out. So if I have it set to headset, then when I put the glasses on, voiceover goes into the meta glasses and you can hear it talking. But if I want voiceover to go through the phone and keep only my music and other system audio through my glasses, I would change it to speaker, which is what I have it set at now. So hopefully this is helpful to you. And if you decide you want to change the device type, you can always investigate other devices and kind of play around with that. I like the idea that with speakers connected, I can have voiceover not come out the speaker. I can have it come out of my iPhone. So it's just a little tip to maybe give you some more flexibility in where voiceover comes through on your iPhone. Thank you for joining us for today's Digital Bites. Please join us next time.
