Hey, all iOS 18 is available to everyone now, so we're going to be going over some of the new features that are in iOS 18. We'll be doing that over the coming weeks in multiple episodes of digital bytes. We will be letting you know what new features are available, how things work. Maybe we'll talk about some bugs. All the things today we're going going to talk about something that was changed in system settings. It used to be you would open system settings and on the top half you would see all of the things like General Wifi, Bluetooth, all of those things. And you can go in and change or set up the different preferences for all of those things. If you were to scroll down, you would see all of the apps in the bottom half. So every app that you had on your phone has some, maybe only one preference or two preferences, and some has a lot of preferences. You would scroll down in that main section and find all of those. Now they have changed that. So now the main portion of system settings is much shorter. They added a button called apps. Inside the button called apps, you have all of the apps that are on your device. You can go through all of those apps and open them up and you can see all of the different settings that are available to you in each app individually. So for example, let's say you wanted to go through and maybe edit or change some of the phone settings. So the way you would do this is you would open up system settings and then you would scroll down until you see apps. Then you would go into the apps folder and there you will scroll down until you see phone. You open up that and then you'll see all of the preferences that you can edit, change and do all the things that have to do with the phone. So that's how you do that. If you want to see all the preferences for any of the other apps, that's where you would do it. And if you scroll through, you'll see all of the apps in there and you can open them up and go through and check out all of the preferences for each individual app. And there you go. That's how you edit. Change all the preferences for all the apps on your device.
Hello, everyone. I'd like to bring you a really handy voiceover tip today that has to do with gestures. I know a lot of folks have trouble with the multifinger gestures, either the ones that involve three or four fingers or gestures that involve multiple taps. So I recently learned about a very cool thing that I did not know, and I think it was on Mastodon where I follow some folks. I'm unsure whether it was like David Goldfield, someone really smart like that brought this tip that has to do with voiceover gestures.
So it's Michael here. I'm going to jump in here real quick because we had a slight technical glitch and I wanted to try a new editing process out in Reaper. New to me, at least. Anyways, what Chris was explaining, and I'll hand it back over to her in a moment, is that, you know those multi finger, multi tap gestures on iOS, three finger double tap to turn off your speech. You don't have to actually use all of those fingers, all of those taps.
The idea is that as long as you tap the screen with three fingers, at least one of those times, it will register the actual command. So I could tap the screen with one finger and then three fingers, speech off. And now speech is off. And if I tap the screen with one and then three, speech on, it is back on. This is if I double tap the screen with three fingers both times. So now what I'm going to do is do a three finger quadruple tap. Speech on, copy to clipboard.
Speech on is copied to clipboard. That's because it copies the last thing that voiceover said. So normally I would, of course want to do this when something I heard in voiceover is what I want to copy to the clipboard. And some folks have a real hard time with going tap, tap, tap, tap with three fingers. So if I were to do one finger three times and then three fingers. Once, speech on, copy to clipboard, copy.
To clipboard, I get the same result. So tapping three times with one finger and ending with the three fingers. So now I want to just show you some other commands here. So let's suppose we tap this screen three fingers three times, screen curtain on. There's our famous screen curtain on. You could do one, one, three screen curtain off. And now it is off. What if I do a four finger.
Double tap starting help to stop, help perform a four finger double tap or two finger scrub or press escape on the keyboard. So there is our command to start or stop help. So I could do one finger and then four fingers. Four finger double tap start help stopping.
Help now help is stopped so you get the idea. So I hope you found this tip helpful. If you have any difficulty doing the multifinger gestures, either tapping multiple times or using three or four fingers, you know you only have to include the three or four fingers. Let's say as one of those taps.
A couple of weeks ago I showed you on digital bytes how to set Dropbox as your default file path when you opened file Explorer. So for me, all I need to do is hit Windows key one taskbar. I hear Taskbar and then Dropbox file. Explorer Dropbox items view multi select list box not selected 8th step Babcock and crease takeover 817 2024 100 03:00 p.m. file folder one of 82 can you.
See I still haven't moved that file folder? One of these days I will. Anyways, this puts me in my list of Dropbox files. I'm in the home directory of my Dropbox folder, and what I'm going to show you has made my experience with browsing around my computer so much faster. So I work out of my downloads folder. Downloads is like my temp directory. It's where all of my files go and either move or just live there until I reset my computer. Probably not the best habit I have, but who am I kidding? That's how things work. And in the past I used to have to shift tab navigation paint review.
Dropbox closed 17 of 19 to get. To the navigation tree view and then find downloads here downloads left parent pinned. Right parent not checked five of 19. Which is now pinned. I can press enter and then tab. Downloads Dash file Explorer items view multi select list box yesterday expanded Jaws tips balancing audio HTML Firefox HTML document 383 kb one of 270 see 270 items.
In my downloads folder, so that process is okay. But let me show you what I have found myself doing now. So let's close file Explorer Taskbar Press Windows Key plus one to open file. Explorer Taskbar file Explorer Dropbox file Explorer items View multiselect list box working on the not selected 8th step Babcock and Priest takeover one of 82 not selected 8th step Babcock and Priest takeover as.
A side that working on it has just appeared in a recent Windows update and I really appreciate it. So if I want to get to my downloads, here's something if you're used to browsing the web, you may be familiar with if you hit control l. For location address bar edit Dropbox that. Puts you in the address bar, and then you just type downloads and hit.
Enter downloads Dash file Explorer items View Multiselect list box working on the items view Multiselect list box yesterday expanded jaws tips balancing audio HTML Firefox HTML document 383 kb one of 270 not selected.
Jaws tip and I went ahead and pressed control because jaws was going to read the name of that file again when it said not selected. So cut that off. But that put me on my downloads folder. Now, let's say Marty calls me and he's like, hey, I need to know if we have a promo created for, I don't know, let's say digital bytes. I can quickly tap control l anywhere I am in file Explorer, type in Dropbox Unmute and I'll read the line.
Address bar edit Dropbox Unmute if I press enter Unmute Dash file Explorer items View multi select list box working on the items view Multiselect list box not selected Android unmuted 817 2024 100 06:00 p.m. file folder one as you can. See, I'm now in the unmute folder. If I go to my address bar. You'Ll hear address bar edit c users backslash mitsubisha Dropbox backslash unmute I or.
You don't have to type all that. You simply type in things like, I don't know, let's try documents documents file. Explorer items View multiselect list box working on the items View Multiselect list box not selected 829-202-4638 pm file folder one of 189. Or we can try if we hit control l going to my desktop. Let's try typing desktop and pressing entertainment. Desktop file Explorer items View multi select list box working on the items view multiselect list box Dropbox seven of 63.
So I want you to take away from today's digital byte that the file Explorer has a powerful address bar allowing you to quickly navigate around your computer. And I'll keep this short, but realize that an address bar is an address bar, which means if you want to type in something like unmute show and hit enter, it'll open your default browser and open you to that address.
