Foreign here and today i want to talk about mag safe and the iphone sixteen e i believe there's a misunderstanding with a lot of people that the iphone sixteen does not have magsafe which is true but it does have wireless charging what does this mean so let's talk first about magsafe what magsafe is is it is a f way to charge your phone and it has stronger magnets and it has an ecosystem of products that go along with that so firstly the wireless charging on its own basically means that it charges faster that's all if you have magsafe on your device that just means it charges wirelessly faster you also have have wireless charging or what they call qi charging and what that means is it's just a slower way to charge wirelessly so the iphone sixteen e does have wireless charging you can put your phone down on a wireless charger and it will charge just not as fast as magsafe charging so if you have a iphone se for example that has wireless charging in it which is the same wireless charging that's in the iphone sixteen e which means it's the same exact thing you can still put it down on a wireless charging pad and it will charge it wirelessly as long as it's sitting on the wireless charging pad correctly so that is in the iphone sixteen you do have wireless charging just not mag safe which is just a faster way to charge your device wirelessly so yes that is a good thing if you have an iphone sixteen e you won't even know the difference it's exactly the same the other thing is that there is an ecosystem of products and with mag safe you just have stronger magnets so that allows you to be able to click devices that are mag safe compatible onto the back of your phone so that can be possibly a battery or maybe like a wallet or a ton of other stuff there's a whole ecosystem now the thing that you can do to kind of add this functionality to your iphone sixteen e is you can get a case that has mag safe built into the case what does this mean this means your phone will not charge at mag safe speeds it's still going to charge at that same slower wireless speed but what it does mean is that if you have a case that is mag safe compatible you can use those products and all the things that are in the magsafe ecosystem except of course a battery but anything else like the wallet or all those other ecosystem of products will work on a case that does have magsafe built into it because it has those stronger magnets so i hope this clears some misunderstanding up for people and if you have any questions you can always reach out and you can email us at feedbackmute show and we'll try and answer any questions that you may have cool hopefully this is good info for you guys and hopefully it'll change your mind about an iphone sixteen e if that's what you're looking to get so with all that being said have a good one and we'll see you next time.
Hey everyone it's chris back with some digital bites and isn't it fun that this does have to do with food mostly but of course we're talking about b y t e s as well so i was just thinking about smart appliances those that are supposed to work with apps or the a lady i'm sitting right by her so i better not say her name otherwise she'll chime in as well and you know i'm just thinking about our dependence sometimes on these smart appliances and what happens if the app goes belly up or it no longer connects with the a lady so let me tell you my story and then i have some ideas for you so back in twenty sixteen and thanksgiving time i absolutely ruined my pressure cooker had a stovetop pressure cooker was cooking a wonderful turkey i think it was turkey breast just a great big hunk of turkey and it was just great except that it took longer than i thought and the pot ran dry and i had to turn it off and rescue it and it was the best turkey breast i'd ever had mostly except for the bottom part and so just a month later my brother told me that he ordered an instant pot and of course this is a pressure cooker with some other functionality including slow cook rice cooker yogurt maker this kind of thing but mostly it pressure cooks and i thought oh that's great and about that same time i had heard a demonstration on sarotech with i think ricky enger was one of those folks that was demoing the instant pot i can't remember if jj or someone was there as well there was a few folks there who were regularly on sarah tech and i think it was on the triple click home actually that nice nice old show that i just looked forward to every week anyway so they demoed and how accessible it was with the app so i thought fantastic it's actually got physical buttons and it's accessible with the app so i ordered one and and i just loved it well eventually my phone died that supported the app and then the app went away and so i have this wonderful pressure cooker which i use a lot but i have to depend on some sighted assistance well fast forward another few years during the pandemic i bought another pressure cooker because it was a lady enabled and strangely enough i never really got around to connecting it to my wi fi and the a lady until after the a lady app went away and i was really bummed when i found that out just recently so now i still don't have a device that connects to an app and it doesn't connect to a lady but they all used to and so my caveat is that when you think about buying a smart appliance i know it's very exciting that they all connect to wi fi or to the a lady or something but that a lady support might go away and so here's my workaround which i do quite often and it really isn't that big of a deal when i do pressure cooking and i make a nice big pot of soup for instance or even if i make something that takes less than the thirty minutes that is the default amount of time on this particular soup button the soup setting i listen for the pot to get up to pressure and it has a certain sound when it does that and and then i call either aira most often or i could call be my eyes and ask them what is the countdown number on the timer because if i know my soup some soups don't cook very long maybe fifteen twenty minutes say the soup has to cook for fifteen minutes and my countdown timer is set for thirty minutes i find out what the number is on the timer so let's say instead of thirty minutes let's say that it says twenty eight minutes so i know that two minutes have gone by and i know that i need a total time of cooking of fifteen minutes so i will set an a lady timer for thirteen minutes thirteen minutes left of the fifteen that i needed hope that made sense so i work around it and i find ways to do things because i know where the saute button is i saute a bunch of yummy ingredients all my you know onion and garlic and celery and carrots and that sort of thing and then i add the rest of it put the top on put the little pressure valve in place and then i push the soup button and then away i go and so i'm not dependent on the ability to connect over wi fi with a digital assistant like a lady and so another thing i also think about is are there physical buttons so some of these instant pots now do not have physical buttons they have a touchscreen there's one model that i believe has physical buttons and i think that a friend of mine is going to order it and we're going to see if it has physical buttons and it does connect to the app the instant connect app but even that being said i recently bought a cosori rice cooker and it cooks other things as well other kinds of grains and it was completely touch screen and so i put little two letter braille labels on it and as long as you don't touch other buttons on the way to touching the one that you want to operate then it's fine and so generally i can hit it right on the mark but i know touch screens are an issue and so is this smart connectivity but if you can use the be my eyes app or the aira app i think that's fantastic sometimes i've even taken a picture with the be my ai and it's accurately read the screen and told me what the type timer countdown number was so just a thought anything that you depend on you really need on a daily basis or you need substantially make sure there's an alternative way to do it because then you can operate this device no matter what so i think i'll go make a great big pot of noodles and all kinds of yummy meat and veggies in there and i will catch.
You next time hey there it's michael for your digital bite today i want to chat you about a handheld amateur radio this is the kenwood thd seventy four a now let's start out by saying that this is an older unit and there is a newer unit available called the thd seventy five a that unit will talk and from what i understand it actually reads more of the options than what this particular unit reads but what's really cool about this is you can get audible feedback from the thd seventy four a and the seventy five a if you want so let me show you what it sounds like now this radio is a very rugged radio it has a screen at the top and below that screen is a four way navigation button with an okay button in the middle on the top left you have i think this is the mode button and i forget what the top right button is and then the bottom below that you have the menu button and then on the right side you have another button as well and then of course you have the up down left and right navigation buttons on that four way navigation pad below the navigation pad is a very powerful number pad and i'll tell you the two keys that i know and i know there's so much more in this radio that i need to get more familiar with so number one this keypad has a standard number pad layout so there's a raised dot on the number five there is a row above that which is one two three and then four five six is below that and then there's two rows below the number five that's seven through nine and then zero and hound or hash key on the left edge of the unit is a push to talk button very tactile easy to feel and then you have the squelch button below that and then the power button which we'll come back to that in a moment as well is below that slightly more recessed i think the best way to describe it is more flush with the unit itself on the top edge you have a antenna connector on the left side and then you have a dual knob on the right side the top knob is smaller and that clicks when you turn it it does turn infinitely but it does click to tell you when you switch to a new station and then directly below that is the volume knob and that one does not click it's a smooth turn and that is how you can determine that on the right side of the unit you have a little flap with two four connectors five connectors the power port is at the very bottom and honestly i don't remember all of these one of these is a sd card slot that's right the one below the rubber piece is an sd card and then below that i think is the usb port and then there's a wireless mic and headphone jack on here as well and below the number pad is a speaker grill now if i press and hold the power button which is the bottom button on the left side you'll hear b memory five and right now i'm in memory five now if you're anything like myself you might be like well what is memory five i think you can name memories i haven't gotten into that with this but i'm going to press this power button briefly i'm not going to press and hold it i'm just going to press it and you'll hear what.
It says b memory group zero channel five fm one hundred fifty six point one five zero five high so it. Gives me a lot of information it tells me that it's on section biomedical it tells me that it's on option b and it also gives me information about the frequency that that memory is associated with and it tells me information about the level of transmit that's available now i told you i'd tell you about the two keys that i'm familiar with if i press number you'll hear.
Vfo four hundred and thirty nine point. Zero five and that tells you the last frequency that i was in now if i press and hold that the unit will begin to scan at that frequency now if you know what frequency you want like four hundred forty six i'm going to hit ok which is that middle round button enter and now it says enter so i'm going to. Type in four four six point zero zero four four six megahertz and now.
It says four hundred and forty six megahertz now that's okay but let me show you the memory system if i press number two memory five it tells me i'm on memory five now if i use my down arrow key channel. Four one four seven point one four channel three one four seven point two eight channel two four four zero point eight channel three one four seven point. Two eight and i'm going to hit. Ok on this channel list three channel three one four seven point two eight.
Now if i press and hold the push to talk button and i call out my call we're making sure no one is on this frequency now then you should hear the repeater come back to me let's give it a try kj seven paz kj seven p a z and now the repeater came back i suspect no one is on at this time but if you wanted to scan all of your favorites and you want to hear what's going on on all of your channels you can press and hold number two and you'll hear memory and when you hear that high pitch beep that tells you that you are now scanning so pressing and holding number one will let you scan frequencies and pressing and holding number two will let you scan memories and then if you're done with the radio you can press and hold the power button and that turns the unit off that's a brief overview of the kenwood thd seventy four radio one gotcha about this particular unit is it doesn't actually read the menu options if you want to know the menus is you'll need to look up a main list of the menu options it will read the numbers to you that you enter but again it doesn't actually tell you what that is if you do change a setting i've noticed that several of the settings will read out when settings have changed if you have any questions feel free to reach out feedback mute show and we hope you have a beautiful day.
