Oh yeah, did I mention you can also check out Unmute show for all past episodes? And to get more information about what we've got going on. This has been an ACB community call. Today's community Unmuted call was hosted on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.
Hello everyone, and welcome back to Unmute. Want to just remind everyone that we are going to take all first questions first and if we have time at the end then we'll take second questions. So please answer the question of the day if that's something you want to do. And one question tech wise. And then if we have time, we'll come back around to take second questions. Also, remember to be respectful and give everyone the same opportunity to get their questions, questions asked and answered as you would want yours. We appreciate that. So thank you very much. Also, I wanted to let everybody know that all of the new operating systems dropped on Monday. So that means we got a new Mac operating system, iPhone, iPad, watch, Apple TV, all of the things so the question of the day today is, did you update yet? Are you waiting? Do you want to see any bugs? If you did update, what's your favorite feature so far? And if you're not going to update, why not? And if you guys want to find out all the things we got going on, you can always check our website unmute show. If you want to email us with any questions, comments or anything else, then you can email us at feedback Unmute dot show. And as always, Orlando at the time we have Michael Doyce with us. How's it going, Michael?
Doing great, Marty. It's good to be here. I hope everybody's having a wonderful day. Got great. Like you said, os releases yesterday. I did.
Well, I'm on the beta on almost everything and I think my AirPods updated and I'm loving this. Shake your head yes or no to answer and hang up calls. That is one of my favorite new features. And if people update, check out the passwords app. That is another huge favorite feature of mine. On iaccessibility, we now have where anybody can submit demos and other content to the iAcast. So iaccessibility.net comma go to Iacast and you can submit your content for demonstrations and other cool stuff like that. So that's all we have. So I'll hand it back to you, Marty.
Thanks, Michael. I will say my favorite so far in terms of the phone is the new control center, which is awesome. You can customize it. You can actually load up apps in there. And the caveat with that is the developer has to have developed with this new operating system the ability to be able to add their app into control center. Most of the developers are doing that, but it's really cool. You can open control center and launch an app right from there. So they got accessibility features, they've got all kinds of stuff. It's really great. So that's super exciting. Also, I wanted to let everybody know that the last Friday of the month at 04:00 p.m. west coast time, we're going to be having an unmute town hall in the community. And Michael Babcock, you want to fill anyone in on that and let them know what's happening there?
Yeah. So on that Friday, which is coming up super fast next week, actually, you'll be able to access the town hall information. We're putting together a landing page on the unmute show, so if you want a reminder because it is out of the normal, we will be willing to send that over to you. We also have a couple of pieces of episodes to or pieces of content to share with you, including TW 77 yesterday called will my Dolly fit. DeMossi was talking about some frustrations he runs into as a blind business owner and a vendor there in the state of Alabama, and some of the cited dependency that's necessary unfortunately in the program. Quick side note, if you know of an accessible money counter, he'd definitely be interested in hearing back from you on digital bytes Sunday, Chris shared a really cool tip about the iOS rotor. If you weren't aware of this, this is a good way to keep your rotor set in one position, even if you flick to the right. So if you're navigating by headings in your, I don't know, community schedule, for example, and you flick to the right, when you flick it down, it doesn't take you to the headings, it actually takes you typically to that bottom bar of buttons. So you want to check, check that out. Chris does a really good job at explaining that. Marty shows you opening apps and I explained to you the new voiceover tutorial and a little gotcha I found in that voiceover tutorial for iOS 18. On Friday, we shared customizing outlook with Jaws, the quick settings and making jaws less verbose. I typically know when my messages are read or unread because they're there. We also talked about showing you how to delete all of the notifications on the blind shell classic two. Lucy came in and shared with you a couple of interesting skills that happen to be blindness related. Braille dots, O and M trivia and blind tech fun, which were two, three apps that she shared. Last thing that I'll mention is Chris talked about the unmute merch. She shared a little about the unmute merch in her at your fingertips podcast shared at the beginning of this month. So we clipped that out and let you guys hear her thoughts on what's available if you head on over to unmute. Show Sheila. Who do we got first?
Beth. Hey, Beth. Hey, Beth. How you doing?
Oh, okay. First. Yeah, the update on my phone. I didn't see any new features, but I. When you said about the control center, I really don't understand what that is. But I also had a question. My phone, like, if I hang up, like with a. From a call, I try to press end call, but it doesn't talk to me. So I almost have to. I have to push my side button on the right three times. And I'm wondering what that's happening more often. So I'm wondering why that is, because I would think that it would do it during the call if I want to put it on speaker, but it's doing it at the end. Not all the time, but a lot of times it is. And so I can't hang up right away.
Well, you can do a two finger double tap to either answer or hang up the phone. So you can do that anytime. So if your phone is ringing, you can do a two finger double tap and that will answer the phone. And then when you're ready to end the call, you can do a two finger double tap and that will end the call right away. Okay. And what. What did you say? What's happening on Monday? You said something about Monday.
Monday is when all of the operating systems, the new stuff, was released to the public and you can then put it on your devices. So iPhone, iPad, watch, Apple TV, Mac computer. Oh, okay. Okay, thanks. Yep, no problem, Nolan. Hey, Nolan. Hey. So I'm going to answer the question of the day, and then I have a question concerning iPadOS two as well, because I've got an iPad six generation. That will not, unfortunately, support iPadOS 18.
And with that, I'm liking the new features in iOS 18. I like what they've done in voiceover. They even make it so that you. Can actually use your own personal voice. To allow yourself to be ready. And however it might take a little. Longer because you have to create 150. Phrases and get them recorded, which is going to take a while. And. Yeah, so my next, so my question. Is, do I have to get a. New iPad for iPadOS 18? Because the iPad that I currently have has lightning and this is a iPad.
6Th generation model that's currently running iPadOS 17.7. Currently. If it's not going to go up to iOS 18, like if it's not compatible, then you'll have to get a new one. There's no way to get it on there otherwise. I would research to see on Google if your iPad is supported. And one thing I want to mention, some people have been confused because there is an update for 17.7, I think, yesterday, right? Yeah, that's correct. It was 17.7 and some people didn't.
Realize you have to flick past that to see the 18 update. So it's. Some people think, well, my device is stuck, but you go past that 17.7 update and select the iOS 18 update and that should get you on your way. If, if your device supports it and. You do not need to run 17, you do need, you do not need to run the 17.7 update. You can pass that and go straight to 18. Okay.
Yeah, I'll have to, I'll have to check because I'll check with my parents tonight and then see if the iPad supports it. And if it doesn't and if it says that it's not able to run. It, then I'm going to have to.
Go to the Apple Store app, locate the iPad that I want to get, send it to them and have them order it for me. Thanks guys. Yeah, no problem. Good luck to you. Yes, thank you, Jeff. Hey Jeff. Hi Marty. Hi Sheila. Hi Michael. Michael. So I updated my twelve Pro Max to 18. Seems really quite a bit snappier. I'm having my down or my podcast app is called Downcast and it's acting a little bit buggy, but maybe, you know, restart or maybe the developer knows about something. But anyway, if there's an update, everyone's rolling out their updates now. They've been doing it over the past couple of days and they're still coming out. So I would check and see if there's an update to that app or there's not. Check back frequently, maybe over the next few days and see if they roll out an update for it. All the developers are rolling out updates in order to be compatible with the new features on iOS 18 for sure. Thanks, Marty. I updated the one HomePod mini we have and I updated an Apple TV 4K. This would be the version, the latest version that came out, I want to say fall of 22. And that leads me to my question. After updating just in the Apple TV app, like if you're, if your focus is on the Apple TV app icon, the up next banner, that's a real wealth of info. You can keep track of just about every service except for Netflix. And after the update that Apple TV up next banner is blank and was wanting to know if anybody has any experience on that. And thank you. Yeah, no problem. If anyone has anything on that, go ahead and let us know.
Michael D, do you have any thoughts? Because I have not used voiceover on the update of tv because I wasn't on beta. But I know, I think. Well, I know, I think, I think I know that they made some changes to that experience for everyone, didn't they? With Apple TV or something? I will be honest with you, I have not powered on my Apple TV since the beta cycle, so I could not tell you. So if anyone knows, raise your hand.
There was. And just one other thing. I'm sorry to be so long on this. There was like, usually whenever there's a box that pops up, I have to restart voiceover on the Apple TV for it to read the whole thing. But it looked like, or it sounded like maybe a user license agreement. And I wonder if I mistakenly, you know, if I was supposed to select something there and maybe I went past that. Maybe that's the reason why. But thanks again, guys.
One recommendation is completely restart your Apple TV and see if that fixes the issue. Copy that. Oh yeah. New passwords app. Love that. Awesome. Who do we got next? Sheila? Brad? Who do we have in Clubhouse? We have Jane on stage with us. Go ahead, Jane. Hey, Jane, how are you?
I'm good. Sorry for the background noise, but I haven't updated to any of my os. I'm still waiting for a loopback and the Dexcom G seven app to maybe update soon. But I just had a question. Someone said that on chat DPT, I was having some issues with the iOS app and the websites and they said that I can use Markdown, but I don't know what Markdown is. Is it easy to learn? And how do I.
It's pretty easy to learn. You could just do a Google search to find out any. There's a lot of places where you can find out how to do Markdown. It's pretty easy to do. But you can also go into chat GPT and you can have it give you your answer back in Markdown. And basically then you can see the way it works within Markdown. So it'll show you all of where the asterisks go and the number signs and all of those things. Copy and paste it and put it into a Markdown editor. And then you can mess around with.
It and you can even ask chat GPT how do you write markdown? And it will give you a tutorial on how to use it. So it's pretty. There you go. See, that's even better. Michael. All right, you ready? Yep. Let's go. Abraham. Hey Abraham. Hello. I updated. I'm good. I updated for some reason. I went to passed the iOS 17.7 update. They went to 18 and clicked update and it's still updated to iOS 17.7. I don't know. Anyway, I then updated to iOS 18.
Long story, but my favorite feature is braille screen input. I like the changes. It's cool. The braille's foundation is going to do. It like a call on that in the next hour. So I'm looking forward to that. And then I have my question. So my brother actually has this question. His face id is no longer recognizing his face. No idea why. And he can't switch it off because. It says that protection thing is on. I can't remember what it's called.
Even though he's at home, it doesn't allow him to switch it off and reset face id. Does it recognize an alternate face or does it let him set up an alternate face? No. So the only. Go ahead, Michael.
Go ahead, Michael. The only way, because we. I've had this on an iPhone 13, it's the device protection. It says to you have to wait an hour typically. And I. It should let you change Face ID without. You don't need to remove the passcode. Yeah, let's just change the face id. And there should be an option in there to redo the face detection. I don't remember what they call it. It says reset Face ID, but it doesn't allow him to go through that. It gives him the error. That protection thing is on.
Oh, that the protections on. And then it doesn't recognize him. Like he can never get it to unlock with Face ID. Yes. So what phone is this? 15 pro. Okay. I don't know if it's under warranty, but where I would go with this case is to reach out to Apple and they can run remote diagnostics because diagnostics. When this happened to me with my iPhone ten, there was damage to the face unlock module. So. Okay. Thanks.
Thanks, Ibrahim. And thanks for mentioning the braille call. That's. That's awesome. And check that out. Who do we got next? Sheila? Judy. Hey, Judy.
Hey there. Hey there. To answer the question, I have not updated yet. I have not had time in the past. I've waited, but I don't think I'll wait on this because it sounds like everything's pretty stable. Question and a quick comment about something that I learned by accident. So my question is, I am looking into getting an iPhone 15 Pro. My understanding is that after Friday, you will not be able to buy any of the 15 series from the Apple online store, that you could go to a physical store and get them and it's $100 off. But that's not an option for me. I took a quick look at the Apple online store and I'm not seeing the 15 Pro at all. I'm seeing the 15.
They're only going to sell the 15, not the pro. If they continue to sell the 15, they want you to go 16. So they've already discontinued the 15 Pro. Is that. They've already done that. Gee, all right. But it's not that much different to go to the 16. You'll be better off going to the 16 anyway. Well, what about the size? Because I don't like to buy a phone unless I've actually held it. What's the difference between the size of the 15 pro and the 16 pro? Are they similarly sized?
Yeah, they're exactly the same, except for, like a couple centimeters. You're not really going to notice the difference. They're very much the same. Okay. Because I've got six small hands. That's why I like it. I like the size of that. So the pro went from 6.1 to 6.3 inches, and then the pro max went from 6.7 to 6.9 inches. So I'd be okay in getting the 16 pro and it's not that much bigger than the 15. You won't notice the difference.
Okay. All right, great. My comment, and I don't know whether this is like a known thing, but with be my AI, I noticed that I can take a picture by hitting the volume button, which I did by accident, and I didn't know that that was a thing. So that you don't have to find the take picture on the screen. This is on my SE 2020. I hit the volume up button and it actually took the picture and it's done that several times. So like I said, I don't know if that's, if anybody knew that, but I find that very convenient.
So anyway, great comment on the new ones. They got the power button. I mean the. I'm sorry, the button where you can assign it to do whatever you want it to do. Camera control is the new one. That'll be really nice for taking pictures. Okay, another just quick question. So the layout of the. Versus the 16 Pro versus the 15 Pro. The buttons and all that is basically the same. Do you guys know all the buttons.
Are the same except on the 16 pros they have that new camera button on the side which is like a capacitive, which means it doesn't actually move physically or anything. It kind of uses your finger and electronics to make it do whatever it is that you need to do. Michael, go ahead.
The new button actually does have a press feature where you can press it in, but it also will offer. Think of a digital camera where you could press the button part way and it kind of goes in part way and then you press it the rest to take the photo kind of like on a, like a professional camera, it's going to work like that. But you'll also be able to slide your finger on the button to zoom in and out or do other controls, which is going to be very nice for camera.
And you still. And you still get that top button on the left side that you can assign it to. Right. The action button, you can assign it to whatever you want. Yep. Okay. All right, thanks. I appreciate it. Yep, no problem. Lori. Hi guys. Can you hear me? Yep, we can hear you. Okay. As far as updating, are you talking about your phone equipment or are you talking about the software or both? The software, the. That came out on Monday.
Okay, because I updated. This is what happened to me yesterday and I'm wondering why my phone is acting weird. I have an SC 2020, as I mentioned before, and last night I went into settings and it mentioned iOS 17.7. So it actually offered me two updates. It offered me iOS 17.7, so I updated to that. Then it said iOS 18 was available. So I updated to that too. If I had known I could just have skipped over to iOS 18, I would have done that. But my question is. So now I'm updated to iOS 18.0 right now. My question is though, when I was in the messaging app today, I was texting one of my friends and I don't know if it was because our conversation got very long or whatever, but my phone keeps locking and in order to unlock I've had to press the side button where the camera. Where the whereas it sounds like a camera shutter and it locked the phone and then I had to enter my passcode and get back in again. Fortunately, her message was still there. But what can I do about my screen locking so much during texting, you.
Have to extend the time it takes to lock your screen. So maybe you're on 30 seconds or something like that. You can go in. No, I'm on. No, I'm always on never. So that means it never locks unless I wanted to.
Then I would try and reboot your phone and see if it solves a problem. Maybe there was some weird thing that happened when you did the update. I would also check and make sure that you are set to the setting that you want because when you do the update, sometimes it changes settings back to their stock feature, you know, so even though you've changed it in the past, when you went up to 18, it might have put it back to what, the stock option, and you might have to change it to never again on your, you know, go in there and change it to never.
It's under settings and then display and then auto lock.
Okay, I'll try that. Because otherwise, the things I'm noticing now, which I like, is it's telling me, like if I have a notification, it tells me the choice I selected was stack. So it's like messages are stacked on top of each other kind of like a stack of newspapers. So I haven't set to that. So it kept that feature. So I'm happy about that. But just like a new pair of shoes, it's taken me some time to get used to. And that's just my final comment.
Well, perfect. Thanks a lot for your comments. And yeah, check under that display settings option in order to see if that fixes it. Sheila, who do we got next? Donna. Hey, Donna.
Hello. I have a different kind of a question. Well, first I'll answer the question of the day. I did not update because I've noticed that there usually are bugs with accessibility when an update first comes out. So I always wait to see because I know there are people who can't wait to update. And so I wait to see what they're dealing with before I decide what I'm going to do and if they're okay, then I update. If they're not okay, then I decide, now I'm going to wait until I see, you know, and eventually I will update. So my question is not related to, well, it's sort of related to the iPhone, but I. This is kind of a, it goes in a little bit of a different direction. I've been shopping around to see what companies have what plans, and I was offered by my current provider, they can give me a good deal, and I did numbers crunching, so that's not the issue. They could give me a good deal on mobile service, home Internet and home phone through the mobile company. I don't know if anybody has had experience with. It would be a good deal if it would work for me, but I don't know if anybody's had any experience with it or if there's any drawbacks I need to be aware of or pitfalls or any questions I should be asking them. Well, I have not made any decisions yet.
Well, one thing I will say is some of those companies, I'm not saying all of them, but some of them are satellite companies. And if you have another option, you definitely do not want to get your home Internet through the satellite. It's substantially slower than if you were to have broadband or fiber or one of those that has a direct cable right into your house. So I would look at that and make sure that it's that feature, not through the satellite. And then, of course, it all depends on where you live. Some people live rural, and some people don't have a whole lot of options, you know. So you would want to see what other Internet providers offer Internet to your house. And you obviously are looking for the most cost effective. And, you know, the thing that's going to give you the most speed or bandwidth is what they would say.
What I recommend is ask people who live near you, they're going to be the best people to tell you if the cell phone service works the best in your area. Find out what other people are using and they'll help you out. Okay. Well, now, the company said that they get there, everything comes from the towers. So does that involve the satellite, too.
Or is that, that sounds more like cellular, honestly. So they're using cellular data off the tower in order to provide you with Internet speed connection. So go ahead. Verizon has like, Verizon home Internet and others that are. That's what I'm looking at. That's what I'm looking at. If anybody can speak about that or if anybody knows anything. Well, I'll give you a little. Oh, go ahead, Michael.
It just depends on where you are, how good the signal is going to be. I know I have a friend that uses T Mobile's home Internet, and he has very good luck with it. But it just depends on where you live and if other people are using it near you that you could speak to, but it just depends really on how much you want to pay and how good the cell signal is in your area for that.
And something to think about too on this is they want to sell you stuff, so they're going to try and say, oh, well, here's a phone, here's a plan. And then you also need a box in order to provide you for the home Internet, Wi Fi, Internet in your house, which they're getting off the cellular tower. They're then able to charge you for that box and for a data plan. Right. So if you have a phone like a modern iPhone, it also provides Wi Fi through your phone and you can use that to get on your tablet or your computer. And you don't really need another plan with another box. Right. So you can save money by just getting minutes on your Wi Fi on your phone and use that if you need to. But if that's what it is, you might want to look around and talk to your neighbors and find out if they're actually using a connection that comes to your house, which is going to be more cost effective for you. Yep.
Thank you. Appreciate all the input. And if anybody else has anything, I'm going to be here for the hour, so listening. Great. Thank you very much. Pam, coffee. Hey, Pam.
Hello. Okay, to answer the question of the day, I have not updated yet, but hopefully I can get it done this week. One of the problems is, and I know most of the time it has worked well, but one time, this was years ago, but I still remember it vividly when I updated, I still had a number of notifications in the notification center that I was going to get to as time permitted. When I did the update, it completely swiped my notification center. There was no notifications left. So I, even though it only happened to me that one time, I'm still trying to get clear out my notification center just in the event that it happens again. So, and plus, I was just super busy yesterday and I'm super busy today, but hopefully I'll update during the week.
Great, Pam, thank you. Thank you, Joe. Hey, Joe.
Good afternoon, everybody. So to answer the question of the day, I did not update because I'm a, I'm kind of in the minority. I'm an Android Microsoft computer user, so no need to update for me. I have a question and kind of a comment slash pitch that I need you guys help with. Number one, I want to preface this by saying that business entrepreneur, e commerce entrepreneur, ideal in the field of like print on demand. And I guess I consider them affiliate marketing. But it's like affiliate products or referral products. And I'm currently in the midst of building my business and building my WordPress website and I'm just trying to build my inventory right now and then try and figure out how to kind of make it aesthetically pleasing, organize it, get the inventory and then organize it. My question is, and I, again, I'm a Microsoft user, I use chrome as my primary browser. I am trying to get, because I want to have product images and I want to have the product images from the actual website. So that way I'm not like, because with my, I have no vision whatsoever. So I'm fearful of going to google and gambling, then I'm getting the right product image for the right product. So when I go to product image, when I actually use jaws and I go to the graphic and I do the shift and f ten to do like the context menu or the right mouse button, I have a plugin that is supposed to be able to save it as a PNG, but it doesn't always pop up. Sometimes I'll hit shift f ten and it'll take me to the taskbar, which it's very confusing. And then, and then I've seen this happen.
So, so if I'm understanding correctly, when you're going to the web page, you're finding an image, you're hitting shift f ten and you're not consistently getting that context menu. And when you do, it doesn't always have the save image image option. Correct. Correct. And like usually if it doesn't give it to, if I somehow get lucky and get the context menu, I will. Sometimes I'll get none of the options that I need or sometimes I'll get an option where it's like open image in new tab. Yeah.
And I'm fine with that because then it actually, I know it saves the image once I go to the new tab, but it doesn't always cooperate with me. So my question is, can you guys help me figure out how to troubleshoot this because it's becoming a little bit, it's very frustrating, first off.
Yeah, I definitely understand that. So I have experienced this myself. I immediately do not have a answer that will solve this problem for you. Are you someone may. And so hopefully they'll raise their hand and Michael, do you have ideas?
So sometimes, and we found this especially on Google images and different things, when you find the image that you want, sometimes routing or moving your PC cursor or your jaws cursor, if you're using jaws I believe this is the process. Move your jaws cursor to the image, then route jaws to PC. PC to jaws, I think is what it is. And then doing your context menu may fix that issue. It does take some playing with, but that may make it to where you can use your shift f ten on the image.
However, this is a good question for the bits office class, if you're in there and if you're not. How I solve this problem, because I run into it quite regularly, is I copy the link, I drop it into Ira and I ask them to grab me the image and save it and email it to me. Okay, so that's interesting. So I have the IRA small business promotion.
Yep. Just. So just go to explore IRa IO copy that link that you're on. And then there's an option that says send a message or files, choose that button, paste in the link in the edit field, hit the call button, and then just ask the agent if they could please apply the small business offer to that call. They'll apply it. They can go to that link, they can click this, the image, save it, and then email it to you. And for me, that is a lot faster and less frustrating than dealing with not being able to get a menu that I know should be there to pop up. So hopefully that helps a little there.
Literally, like when my wife, who has sight, she can be sitting right next to me, I'll go. Go on to the image with the mouse. Right click it and it's there. And it's so infuriating. Try that and let us know if that works better for you. We do have quite a few hands, so I'm going to jump onto the next. I just had one last thing, and it kind of might even have to do with you, Michael, or any of you within that business. I am trying to find a web designer that is an. We have some resources for you.
Okay, thank you. Yep. All right, Sheila, who do we got next? Juliana. Bella. Hey, Juliana. Hello. Well, I want you to know I got set up with my glasses. Good. And they're working wonderfully. I mean, it's just absolutely amazing now that you really have to hold the. You've got to hold the. Your paper or whatever you want read or, you know, you've got to be leveled with the lenses and do you have the glasses? You're talking about the meta Ray band. Yes. The meta Ray band class. Yep, I do.
They're. They're wonderful. Now, they're not really as good with text yet, you know, as they ought to be. And update on Ira? Nothing. So I found a podcast in community that says how to deal with this kind of thing. It was done back a while back, so I'm going to listen to it and see how to deal with these. I don't want to have to get an attorney now. I'm sorry, but that, that's just about to the point that I'm where I am after emails, weeks and so on. But anyway, updates, I just got it came, it reminded me and it was like 76 or is it 76? 70, I've forgotten. 17.6 or something like that.
17.7 came out yesterday. 17.7. Okay, so it came out yesterday. Yes. All right, I got it. All right now. So there's not an 18? There is, there is an 18. And if you updated to 17.7 already, you should just have to go to settings and then general and then software update and do the update again. Okay. I'm going to wait a few days because, you know, I don't like the bugs. Nobody likes never going to be bug. Free, but you can take them better than I can. No, I'm kidding for sure.
Well, thanks Juliana, I appreciate it and thanks a lot. Who do we got next there? Sheila? Robert. Hey Robert. Good morning friends. Can you hear me? Yes sir.
Yeah. Regarding the question, I cannot update because my iPhone is little bit old. I have to get a new iPhone to update. Regarding my question, my windows doesn't start properly for the last one week. I have to restart it again and again. Fortunately I have some little bit eyesight left so I can see that the screen is on or something like that. So just me some ways to windows to boot up but because at that time the screen reader doesn't start. Okay, so before the screen reader start it should start efficiently. Is there any ways I can improve the starting process? And one more thing, I can give some suggestion for our friend who was asking some image question. I will say that I can do some python coding, use some web scrapping to download all the images or particular images of the website with the image description which is given by the alt part of the HTML. Since he is a web designer, he may be knowing that. So it will download all the images, if at all any image description is there, then you can choose that. Thank you.
Thank you for that. That is a good use of python skills to build a little scraper that will grab those images for you, especially the ones that you need. Appreciate that. Yeah, I can download all the tables also. I always do that. I download all the tables and I can do whatever data I can take from the table. Perfect, Robert. Well, thank you very much. How to improve the Windows starting.
Yes, I'm sorry. So the, honestly, what I would do in this case, because I'm not familiar with your computer situation, is I would reach out through be my eyes to Microsoft disability answer desk and ask them if they can watch with you your computer startup, and they may have some tips or suggestions, suggestions for improving the screen readers responsiveness and starting out for you. What I typically do when I'm not getting a screen reader to respond, such as Jaws or NVDA. Jaws is my primary screen reader is I will press control windows enter and this will turn.
I tried that. Also, I put the narrator as the starting thing. I used two screen readers to start simultaneously. Okay. Still, it's not doing that. Yeah. Thank you. Yeah. Reach out to disability enter desk. They'll be able to help you further, Robert. Appreciate it, Sheila. Who do we got next? Doc? Hey, doc. Good morning. Good morning. Well, I, I have not knowingly updated. Or upgraded yet, but I was going.
To answer the question. I used to have the Verizon home phone and Internet, and when they gave me the price that it was a. $100 for the modem. But the nice thing about it is. Wherever I went, all I had to. Do is plug it in to power. It would boot up. And I was in business and I tried it, you know, in Fresno, Pismo Beach, Menlo park and Concord, and it worked great. The only thing bad about it was they put a big jump in the price for that. Gotcha. So I dumped it. Yeah, but it did work fine.
And they work great for backup Internet, too. Like if you're going to a hotel and you don't know how the Internet's going to be there, having that as backup Internet, really lifesaver.
And if you wanted to get around that, like a lot of the modern iPhones have Wi Fi on the phone and you wouldnt need that extra box. So you just pay for some minutes on the Wi Fi depending on how much you need. But thatd be great if youre traveling and youre in a hotel or youre somewhere and you can just use your phone and not have to carry around an extra box or pay an extra, pay for an extra box or pay for an extra service and the box. So, you know, I, I didn't, I just had the one service and, yeah, with the Wi Fi, then I could use, you know, Wi Fi calling and all that on my phone.
So great. Well, thanks. My phone. So it is a good, good service. But I found it way too expensive. Yep. A lot of people feel that way. Yeah. Okay. All right, doc. Thank you very much. Have a great day. Yes, thank you. You too, Gregory. Hey, Gregory. Hey, guys. Okay.
Updated my 14 pro. I haven't had time to look at all the updates, but it's really snappy. Is working a lot better than it was on 17. I got a question about video. Sending video off my phone, maybe to my. An email on my PC. How big of a video can I copy and send? Trying to figure out off my phone. How big of a video can I send through email? Anybody know? So probably a couple of megabytes, I think. Not much more than that. Not very much, is it? So you're on the iPhone, correct? Yeah.
14 pro? Yeah.
Okay. So you can share larger videos off of your phone. If the video is larger than I believe it's nine megabytes, the phone will ask you, hey, would you like to use mail drop to send this attachment that will store the larger video on Apple servers? And then the person receiving it will have 30 days. Even if that's. You will have 30 days to click the link and then download the attachment. So the size really doesn't matter that much anymore, as long as you choose the option that says use airdrop and not the option that says attach, and you will be prompted if the attachment is large enough.
What about hardwiring to the phone, to the PC? Are you using windows or Mac? Windows. So you can try that. Would I have done? I don't like itunes on windows, and I don't think there's an easier way to get data out. I don't. Yeah. Okay. All right, thanks. Thanks a lot. Who do we got next? Sheila? Diane. Hey, Diane. Diane. Diane. Diane, you're still muted. Can you hear me now? Yes, ma'am.
All right, well, okay. So I guess the question is if we've upgraded yet to iOS, what is it, 1818. And I haven't yet. It just as a matter of principle, I always wait, you know, when the first one comes out to see what kind of problems people are having. And I did look at the. There was a apple vis message that came through today. They didn't seem to think that a lot of the things that were going on were, like, serious. So, you know, that that might influence what I do. But at this point, you know, I just haven't done it yet, and I'm just going to wait and see what happens for a little while.
Very good. Well, thanks a lot, Diane. Appreciate it. Yep. Sheila, who do we got? Next. Petra. Hey Petra. Hello, can you hear me? Yes, we can. Well, you know what I did? I wanted to be faster on the unmute. I'm wearing my Airpods two pro, and so I unmuted myself on my phone and muted myself with the Airpods. And that way when you called on me, all I had to do was push the button down. Mute. That works. Yep, it's great. There you go.
I have not updated yet. I got the message yesterday to update to 17.7 and that was going to be in my original question, why would I do that when I know 18 is out? But now from hearing you guys, I know that I'll go ahead and do it. My phone sometimes hangs up, so it takes hours to do the update. It's ridiculous. 17.8, you can just go past that, you don't need to install that. It's really for people maybe who don't want to update to 18 or if their phone is too old to update to 18.
Okay, great. Could you give me an example of when I could use the AirPods pro two to nod my head or shake it? Or is that just on the new AirPods? Is that a, is that something that AirPods Pro two will do? That is on the AirPods Pro two? And it's typically whenever you're getting like a call coming in or if it's announcing a message, you could always shake your head yes or no to non verbally have it do the next action or to cancel. Okay, so if I receive a phone call and I nod my head, it.
Would answer correct, as long as it's turned on, right? Michael, don't you have to set that up somewhere? It does set up. Like, it will actually prompt you to set that up whenever you update to 18. Oh, that I've noticed. Perfect, good, perfect. I love your show. Thank you so much. Have a wonderful day. Of course, you. Thank you very much. You have ten minutes. Stephanie. Hey, Stephanie. Hello. Hello.
So what should I do? If I'm on the windows and, and I'm trying to create a password and the password isn't not valid. So typically systems that have password require password options have password requirements. So the first thing I would do is make sure that I am meeting all of those requirements. It might require the use of a special symbol, a number, a letter in both lowercase and uppercase as well. If you are meeting those requirements, where are you trying to enter this password?
Well, just like, you know, like when I want, just say when I want to get to set up the email.
Account and stuff okay, so if you're entering a password for your email and it says the password is invalid, then you'll need to go through the process of resetting your password, and hopefully you'll be able to reset that if you don't remember what it is. If you're trying to set up a new account, and this is a brand new account, then that's when you'll want to look at the password requirements to verify that the password you're trying to use is meeting all of those requirements. Okay, so give that a look, Stephanie. And if you need to reset your password, there typically is a link. Choose that and follow the directions. Okay. All right, thanks a lot, Sheila. Who do we got next?
Stacy. Hey, Stacy. Hi. Just for your Wi Fi, I. I got information on what they're doing with the iPhone. I mean, the. The. Excuse me. Blind shell classic two. And. And why. And I also wanted to find out if we could set up a new user friendly group of users. I wanted to think about that, and I found out everything about how to use audible with the blind shell classic two. Okay, very good. Where did you find that? Was that on the mystic access tutorial?
No, I. I found out that the. The file manager is usable with the blind shell classic, too. It doesn't tell you the files, but what it does is it. It brings up a more menu which deals with how to get rid of the files or how to archive them in. In some cases.
Okay, well, perfect. Glad to hear that. And you can always start your own blind shell classic two community. There's nothing stopping. Stopping someone from doing that if they want. And appreciate your comments there, Stacy. Sheila, do we have any other hands? No, sir. Oh, wait a minute. Wait, Jeff. Hey, Jeff. Hey, michael. Going back to digital bytes, Chris's topic, can you remind me what the. What the rotor setting was for that? I can. It'll just be a couple of moments for me to pull that.
Oh, no, that's okay. I think I can go back.
And if you go through, what it does, though, is it makes your rotor stay on headings, if that's what you last set it to. And then flicking down will always take you to the next heading and not do the expected behavior. But realize, in some instances, one of the side effects of this is. And I don't think I've noticed this as much in iOS 18, but in the past, one of the side effects was you would always have to remember to switch your actions to or switch your rotor to actions if you had originally had it set on something different, because it's not going to automatically do that. But to me that inconvenience on occasion is worth the frustration. It saves me absolutely some.
Sometimes I'm not ready to throw the. Phone through the window. Thank you. Appreciate it there Jeff. Well thanks a lot. Email us if you have any questions and it looks like that is all of the hands that we have. So I'm going to thank Michael, Sheila and Brad and hand it to Marty so he can remind you of how to get in touch.
Yeah. Thanks everyone for being here. If you want to find out all the things we have going on you can always keep up on our website, our website's unmute show. If you have questions, comments or anything else you can always email us at feedback unmute show and everyone have a great week and we'll see you next time. Thanks y'all. All right, I'm going to end it for all. Have a great day.
