Episode description

Today on Unlicensed Therapy, I am joined by comedian Brody Stevens. Brody started off his career in Los Angeles by taking a crash course in comedy before performing at monotonous open mics. Already disillusioned by the prospect of following this path into comedy, he was approached Danny Robinson who advised him to leave LA and find a smaller market. Having relatives in Seattle the decision to move there was quick and soon after Brody started doing public access on live cable. Although his following was beginning to grow the idea of becoming a T.V. personality rather than a stand-up comic was not what he envisioned so for this reason the decision to move to New York was made. On this episode Brody shares with us his experience in dealing with mental illness along with the various amount of medications that are prescribed. Never having the need to seek psychiatric help in his young years, Brody found himself being faced with the contradictory benefits of feeling “normal” but at the price of limited creativity. After numerous attempts of gradually weaning himself off of medications he finally found a balance while seeking home remedies but never dismissing the idea of going back. Make sure to stay with us until the end as Brody reveals his police encounter at Starbucks!
