Episode description

I know that you deeply care about your work. You've built expertise, you share your brilliance online, but something's not quite hitting the mark. Your content gets likes, but not leads. Your emails get opened (sometimes) but no responses. Sound familiar?

Here's the truth: funnels, freebies, and lead magnets aren't working like they used to. People are burnt out on gated PDFs and vague promises of transformation. They're not looking for another download—they want YOU. This isn't a marketing problem anymore, it's a connection problem.

Why Lead Magnets Are Falling Short

We've all created them—those carefully crafted freebies designed to grow our lists and nurture leads. But our ideal clients are scrolling past our content, ignoring emails and ghosting our offers. The issue? Everyone's doing the same thing and while audiences are overwhelmed by content, we are missing meaningful connections.

People don't want another checklist they don’t use. They want something real, immediate and genuinely helpful. They want to feel seen and understood, not just added to another email sequence.

Key Takeaways:

  • Connection Over Collection: The focus needs to shift from collecting email addresses to building genuine relationships. People are burnt out on automated funnels and want real human connection, not just another download.
  • Micro Gifts Beat Lead Magnets: Replace traditional lead magnets with micro gifts—small, immediate acts of value that solve a specific problem within 24 hours. These create conversations rather than just growing lists.
  • Solve Small, Act Fast: Focus on one specific problem your audience faces right now and create something that provides immediate, actionable value they can implement today—not another comprehensive guide they'll never use.

So I have a challenge for you today. Pick one problem your ideal client faces right now. Create a micro gift that solves it. Send it to three people this week with a personal note and watch what unfolds.

Connection is everything in business, and you're closer to breakthrough than you think. Stop hiding behind automation and start showing up as the trusted guide your clients need.

Hi there, and welcome to another. Podcast episode of Unleashing Brilliance. I'm so glad you're here. Now. If you're listening to this, chances are that you are someone who deeply cares about the work that you do, that you've built a career, maybe even a business rooted in expertise in service and in the kind of integrity that's hard to find these days, and yet.

Despite all of that, you may be feeling a little bit stuck, like you're saying, all the right things, showing up online, putting your brilliance into action and out there into the world, but nothing's quite landing like it should. And if that feels familiar, today's episode is for you. Because we're about to unpack why the classic lead magnet strategy just isn't working anymore and more importantly, what to do instead, I'm going to introduce you to something that's way It's much more human.

I've been teaching my community and they've all been experimenting with this over the last few weeks and getting some great results. It's becoming far more effective at building the kind of trust that leads to real opportunities, and I like to call this the micro gift. It's refreshingly personal, it's ridiculously practical, and it's already creating massive results for the women I work with. Now, here's the truth. Bomb Funnels are broken funnels, freebies, lead magnets. We've all created them.

They're meant to build our lists and warm up our leads. But here's the truth. People are burnt out. They are over consuming. They are overthinking, and we are under connecting. They don't want another gated PDF necessarily, or a vague promise of transformation. They want something real. They want you. And let's cut to it. You are in a business to serve. You are in a business to make a difference, and you are in a business to make money. Right now, your ideal clients aren't biting.

They're scrolling past your posts. They may be ignoring your emails, ghosting your offers. This isn't a marketing problem anymore. It's a connection problem and the MicroG gift is your way. Back in. It's a strategy designed to start genuine conversations that lead somewhere. It's about finding quality leads who are ready for help, and it's all about positioning you as the trusted guide they didn't even know they were looking for. No more waiting around.

This is how you activate interest and opens doors. So What is a micro gift? I want you to think of a micro gift as a small but mighty act of generosity. It's a tool, a tip, an insight or a short experience that delivers immediate value to your ideal clients. And that's that key word there. Immediate value. Now, some of you're listening to this might be going, yeah, but isn't that what a lead magnet is?

I wanna share with you now just quickly talk through what I see as the key differences between lead magnets and micro gifts. So if we think about intent, if we think about intent, lead magnets are fundamentally about collecting emails, Micro gifts, their intent is about building relationships. If we think about value, depth, lead magnets often sit on red. Micro gifts are quick, actionable and memorable. So if we think about lead gen versus trust, Lead magnets are about list building.

Micro gifts are about people. Think about, maybe it's a script they can use today, a short video answering the exact question they're Googling right now. A checklist of framework, a download that gives relief from the current chaos, a piece of your brilliance that they can apply straight away. It's about it being practical, it's personal, and it's powerful.

Now Leah, who is, uh, one of my clients, we were recently at an inner circle mastermind day and she delivered some powerful training around assuming positive intent and wrapped this training up with a very simple I. PDF, no pitch, no polish, just genuine value. And I said to her, Leah, do you reckon that there's other people in your market that struggle with this too? And her answer was a resounding, hell yeah, Janine, most of my clients are struggling with this.

I suggested to her that we turn this thing into a MicroG gift. She sent this MicroG gift to a few people, just a short message with a thought this might help. And the result, two cells within days multiple. This is exactly what I needed, replies, conversations reopened, trust rebuilt, all from that one act of generosity. So why does this work? Why does this microgrid work? Well, I think right now your audience, your potential clients are overwhelmed that they're currently overthinking.

They're, they're spiraling in self-doubt, and what they want is clarity and confidence. They want someone to say, here's what matters. Right now, I think they're over consuming. You know, they've downloaded every single freebie online. They've probably shared their email hundreds of times for multiple lead magnets, but they're still feeling stuck, and what they want is a practical next step, something light, fast, and actually helpful They're craving realness.

They're not looking for more automation. And what they want is they want human connection. They want proof that you see them and that you've helped others like them. And this is where the micro gift creates momentum for them. And for you, it's how you stand out in a saturated market. It's how you build trust instantly. It's about starting conversations with real people. It's finding leads who are already warmed up. It's about creating, oh my God, thank you moments that lead to deeper work.

It's your way of saying, I see you, I hear you. I understand where you are at, and I've got something to help you right now. No fluff, no faff. Just impact. So I guess you're now thinking to yourself, okay, Janine, I get it. How on earth do I create one? Well, I wanna give you four very simple steps. Write down some notes if you need to, and I reckon you could probably create a MicroG grift in the next seven days.

It's exactly what my clients have been doing, and we've been measuring, we've been experimenting, we've been testing, we've been trialing, and we've been getting results using these steps. So here they are. Step number one. It's about zooming. This is where I want you to get really specific about your particular audiences, your particular clients. Right Now, problem, right now problem. That's the key words. Ask yourself what is keeping them up at 3:00 AM?

What are they whispering to themselves that they're scared about? What's slowing them down? Today, you know, it may be, I don't know what to post to get engagement. I, I need to price this proposal, but I'm second guessing everything. I'm, I'm not getting any leads. Where are the clients? My team is overwhelmed and under productive. If one person says it, 10 more are probably thinking it. And that's what I want you to think about.

I want you to zoom in on your ideal clients and think about what is the thing that's keeping them awake right now. Step number two, and this is key. I want you to solve small, not something big, not a 50 page ebook. We are thinking light, sharp, helpful, something that they can use immediately. A cheat sheet, A checklist. Three questions to ask yourself. A one page framework, a script, a short training, a how to with one big giveaway. One big takeaway.

You know, what you've got to think about is if they wouldn't use it within 24 hours, your job is to tighten it. So it's about going small. Step number three then is to activate. And amplify. This is about sharing your micro gift with the two audiences that matter most. Audience one, go first with the advocate plan. This is where you send it personally to past clients, current clients, referral partners, champions, and connectors.

Start with your inner circle, past clients, referrals, people that you know are watching from the sidelines, and send it to them with a very simple message. I've recently been working with this client. We talked about, blah, we worked through this. I've packaged it up for you because I thought you might find it helpful too. Please enjoy and pass it on to anyone else that you think might find it helpful. Give it away. Give it away.

What we're looking for is for people to come back and say, thank you. Awesome. That was really helpful. restarting the conversation. We are genuinely providing some help for those advocates, the people that already love your work. Step number one. Then step number two. Is about going broader. This is about the lead plan. Go broader. Share it with your email list, social media, audience, DM, connections, who have gone cold communities you are part of.

And again, share it with, I've created this thing. I thought you might find it useful. If you want a copy, let me know. You literally send it out, then scale it, post it on whatever social media you are part of. Send it broader, wider, and in exchange for it. That is when you go and get those new emails, and then the final step is to follow through. When someone says thank you, don't disappear. Ask what landed. Keep the conversation going. Open the door to more. So here's your next step.

I want you to Pick one problem your audience is struggling with right now today. Create one micro gift to solve it. Remember, we go small and I want you to send that micro gift to three people this week and let's just watch what happens. this episode sparks something, once again, please share it. Please leave a review. Please pass it on to a friend. And if you use this strategy, tag me because I'd love to celebrate with you. You need more connection.

We all need more connection, and we all building businesses of our dreams. Thanks for listening. Keep showing up. Keep sharing your brilliance because you are so much closer to those breakthroughs than you think.
