Desperate for a drink, you race to its edge and cut handfuls of the crisp, cool water into your mouth, then slump back on a nearby rock. It's only then that you're able to appreciate the full beauty of the scene
laid out before you. The crystal clear water cascading down of a glistening moss covered rocks, and the way the dappled sunlight breaks through the trees and sparkles on the surface of the stream. You take another scoopful of the water, then rise to your feet and proceed to follow it downstream. After hours of walking, the stream gradually widens into a river, but having followed it for the best part of the day, there is no end in sight, as the river appears
to meander on forever through the trees ahead of you. Disheartened, you stand at the river's edge and are just gazing out across its surface when you catch sight of something slowly billowing through the water toward you. As it draws nearer, you recognize it as a blue silk scarf. You watch it as it edges closer and closer until it seems to snag on something in the water just meters away. Leaning out over the bank, being careful not to fall,
you reach out for it with one last stretch. You finally manage to get your finger tips to it just enough to pull it closer. But as you start to pull, only then do you realize that something is weighing it down. You can just make out the bulky shadow of it a meter or so below the surface. With a little more effort, finally the weighty shape is dislodged, and now it is rising toward the surface, turning as it comes
before revealing itself in one last horrifying twist. You scream as the bloated body of a dead child breaks the surface, its face grotesquely mutilated, with its bottomed jaw ripped from the skull and only empty reddened sockets where the eyes should be. Letting go of the scarf, you stumble back onto the bank and wretch violently. But before you have time to process it all, you hear a hideous sound screeching out from far off in the distance that is
steadily getting louder. You know instantly that something terrifying is heading this way. As the dead body slips slowly back under the water, you turn and bolt into the trees. Faster and faster. You run, tripping on roots and smashing through branches, jumping and beating your way through as that terrifying, sickening noise gets closer and closer, when suddenly, a burly man steps into your path, bringing you to an immediate halt.
