Episode description

In this week's episode of Understanding Men, hot on the heels of EURO 2024, Luke and Fraser contemplate nationalism, and try to unpack what exactly national pride is. Reflecting on their varied upbringings and their experiences of representing their country both on and off the pitch, they investigate their own national identities, and ponder the commonalities they may have with other British people.

Highlighting the idea of borders, they discuss the ways in which humans have moved around the world, and discuss whether both national and local pride come from a sense of shared values, or ask if humans naturally band together in resistance to outside forces.

Lastly, they investigate if the innate human need to belong can sometimes be exploited by nationalism, as we all look for communities in which to find purpose and meaning.
