Episode description

Jay sits down with the founder of Jimmy John's sandwich chain, Jimmy John Liautaud, to discuss the formation and growth of his now internationally famous sandwich empire, and how his parents helped him launch his very first hot dog stand which led to the growth of his food business. Jimmy talks about how his parents ran out of money and he somehow found inspiration for a sandwich shop after a drunk party weekend at Southern Illinois University. He also tells a wild story about how Rich's frozen bread became his bread provider on just a cold call he made. Then the store began to grow around college students but crawled to a standstill when summers hit, and it took him a couple years to really make that schedule work and finally turn a profit. And Jimmy breaks down how the business then exploded through franchising and turned into the monster it became today... and how he incorporated delivery as a method of survival.
