Two Noras and a Balanced Breakfast!

Did you get a little fooled ? A little fooled . Yesterday was April Fool's Day . Oh , yes , for those . Yes , I am in need of a rental car this weekend and my charming husband pretended that he rented me a car the size of a Like a table clown car and you like a big car , yeah , and I got fired up , and right away .

So how long did he keep it going before you ? I've been long enough to be like , okay , I should probably stop because I was getting mad . Yeah , um , how , how about you ? Did you get fooled ? I did .

My son , aiden P , fooled me , and it's funny because I put a little note in his lunchbox and I was like make sure you don't get fooled today , don't forget , it's April Fool's Day . So , making sure he didn't get fooled . And then he came downstairs he's like Mom , so I forgot I had a Spanish project due . I thought I was going to get it done in Florida .

It's due today . I totally forgot about it and I was just like Aiden , are you kidding me ? And he's like April Fool's . Oh , he did get you my love . My loveist got me as well . I forgot about that . I texted him .

He has a football commitment on Tuesday mornings , like a meeting , and so I asked how Breakfast Club was and I said he got kicked out for roughhousing . And I believed him , oh gosh . And I texted an angry text back and he kept going .

I texted another angry text and then I think my boys just pushed me and they're like , oh God , we better stop or she'll break . They're like , oh , we've gone too far , yeah'll break . They're like , uh-oh , uh-oh , we've gone too far . Yeah , but I didn't fool anyone . Did you trick anyone ? No , I did not . I don't know . I wasn't in the mood for it yesterday .

Well , you had one heck of a ride home from Florida . We had a lot of March 30 . We had a big March 31st . I wasn't really up for any pranks . What a mess . What your return flight was for you . I know that's my well , we can get to it later , okay , but I was curious about it . How was the rest of your week ? It was fantastic .

I was in Florida for most of it visiting my parents with my four kiddos , and it was great . I don't feel bad saying it because I know you're leaving tomorrow to get your break and your sunshine , but just getting off the plane and feeling warm yes , I'm sure a nice feeling . Oh , my gosh , it just it was amazing .

And it was nice to have Just to be away and a change of scenery With your parents too , some time with them . It was nice and the kids had a great time . We ate really good food . I even swam you did Me and Rose played around in the pool . Good for you .

She wanted to play Marco Polo , but that's kind of a tough game to play with two people , and also when you have a pool full of senior citizens , and I was like , oh , this isn't going to go well . So I was like , what about we play ? Follow the leader , I'll just do whatever you do .

Oh , and then she was like , well , I didn't go under the water , going under and doing tricks , but we had a very nice time . Okay , as long as she was happy , right ? Yeah , how about you ? How were things back in Chicago ? Things were great . We were sad to see our Wildcats lose , oh , but happy for their season . They didn't run .

Yeah , is that what you say to sports people when they lose in the playoffs it's a good run , you had a good run , or does that not help ? I said that to them . Okay , it's like , yeah , you're fun to watch all season Things of that nature , but how about our astronauts ? Oh , my gosh . Yes , did you see the interview ? I read an article about it .

I didn't watch the interview . I was surprised that the first food Sunny wanted was a grilled cheese oh , but I guess it's hot and gooey and probably indulgent . And butch the chicken salad , oh , barf , sorry , no , I don't like mayonnaise . I know that's so interesting . Yeah , what would you pick ? These are also people who are like well , nine months was fine .

Yeah , I guess you're right . That's a different kind of person . Yeah , I like that . They were like we were not stranded . We were not stranded . We were not forgotten , we were not stranded , it's fine . Why , though , it's not fine ? They're very kind and good employees . They were stuck in space .

I guess they're like well , because of the scheduling , this would have been me , nora . You would have gotten off the space station , I'd be like I'll just stay , it's fine . But they were stuck . I hate to break it to them , but they were there much longer than they should have been . They were there for nine months instead of a week .

I mean , I was delayed one day in Florida and I was like , good God , do you think ? Their space station was like you're not stuck , we're working on it . And they're like , okay , they said we're not stuck , we're not stuck , we're not stuck , we're not stuck Like you know .

We had like when I read that , sunny was like you know , we woke up , we exercised , we went to work , just like everybody else , like you're in outer space . They are outside their minds . I think maybe they have brain loss . Maybe good for them , for , but they seem .

You know , she went for a three mile run the other day like she's like and kudos to the nasa doctors because we were in great shape when we went up there . They kept us in great shape while we were there . I'm three mile run like good , good for her , because I couldn't run three miles and I haven't been in space for nine months .

I was like , oh boy , oh , my God . But I mean I'm glad they're home . Yeah , aye , aye , aye . I would have been singing a different tune . We would have been a good pair up there because you probably would have grounded me Huh , yeah , I'm here in space and you would have brought the fun and you would have also been like , no , we need to go .

But also that's how I get at dinner . If I've been at dinner too long , you don't want to be on a ship that's not ready , like I would get the damn ship ready . I think it's hard . There's not a lot of space shuttles lying around . It's crazy . But speaking of these different , you know I was talking to you about the Amy Poehler's new podcast .

hang . She was talking with Ike Baranold , okay , and she was talking about the Enneagrams and how she loves an Enneagram . What is she ? She's a three and you're a seven or a three Seven . I'm either a seven or a three . But she was like , oh my God , I love Enneagrams . I'm so into it . I'm a three . Tina Fey's a three , seth Meyers is a three .

I'm like , oh , my favorite people are threes and I'm a nine and I'm a doormat . I was like , oh , I'm feeling bad about myself again . I'm surprised that they're like my favorite favorite people are her own kind , like her own number . Yeah , that's interesting , but there are also people to collaborate and work with . True , but that's what I was like .

Oh , that's why they are famous and do their own . Her podcast is number one . Right , it's so good , it is great . I recommend it . Yeah , well , you , actually you . I love all of her giggles and her funny stories and her conversation with Rashida Jones . I highly recommend it .

When they were laughing uncontrollably , I started laughing uncontrollably and it made me think about our listeners , because sometimes I'm worried that our giggle fest I am worried that our giggle fest Can never have enough giggles . But that's why I like her podcast .

She's , like there's so much yuck , like just surround yourself with the people and the conversation that you want to have . Oh , no , I've been wanting to talk about it since I wrote it down . Okay , there was a babysitter a few weeks back that that was my stomach , I don't know . I was like I just put my thumbs in my thumb holes because I'm scared . So she put the child to bed and the kid came down and was like I think there's monsters under my bed .

She's like there's not monsters under your bed . He's like , no , I think there's monsters under my bed . She went up there and there was a man under the bed , shut the front door . Uh-huh , how horrifying is that . I have so many questions . Okay , I probably don't have the answers , because I never do . Who was it ? He was the previous owner , what ?

Who had like an obsession with this house , what ? And there was a restraining order against him to stay out of the house or away from the house . What ? Mm-hmm , what did the babies ? Did he grab the boy and just run out of the house ? But then he ran out .

So it took him a day to try and apprehend him , and I wonder if the parents were like we know who it is . Isn't that terrifying To look under the bed and make like to meet eyes with someone ? There is a monster , yeah . So what a creeper . How long had he been there ? I don't know Too long , too long , too long , oh , my long . Had he been there ?

Can I tell you , though , what I'm happy about is that I was like , oh , is this a bad babysitter story ? But it wasn't . It's a good babysitter . Yeah , it's fine . Previous owner bad . At first , because I've just been in florida I thought you were like there was an alligator under his bed . Every night on the Florida news , they're like an alligator was in someone's pool , or it's like police were called to get a six-foot alligator off the sidewalk . I'm like this is not news , it happens every day .

It's like our ring doorbell alerts oh , we're like coyotes . Coyotes spotted , are those gunshots ? Oh my God , that's actually bonkers . Also , if you think you hear a gunshot , don't alert your ring community . Yeah , but I told my parents they should just be like enough of the alligator report . Yeah , there you go , because it's not the alligator update .

Yeah , just like . Oh , and it's Florida . So there was an alligator today . And then my dad was saying , yeah , they caught one at this school near , but there's a Florida Gulf Coast University , whatever near where my parents have a house .

And my dad's like , yeah , there were like three alligators there , da-da-da-da-da , and he was like Aiden , maybe you could go to college there . I'm like number one , no , number two . Don't tell him about all the alligators and then tell them you should go . Why are alligators all over the place , dad ?

Because it's Florida , I think we're in their zone and they're running out of space , probably . Well , at least it's not the rattiest city in America . What's that ? Chicago ? No , oh , rats , the most rats Ten years in a row . We need a rat czar , like New York has . So they're giving these rats Poison , jobs , pizza , birth control .

Oh , because it's safer for pets , okay , and it will control all that , oh , okay , yeah , gross , oh , I know , I keep thinking of a rat with the like compact thing popping out the pups , like oh , gnawing through the little thing taking her pup . I know that's not how they do it . Why do I have such gross , weird stories today ? I love it .

Are they just hoping then they don't reproduce and then they'll eventually die out ? You know , I didn't really read too much more into it because I think it's gross . Oh , but I was happy that the poison will keep it safer for , or the lack of poison will keep it safer for , pets . Yeah , that's interesting . I would love to see what it looks like .

I'm just thinking of getting a different prescription , I guess , like a bit At Walgreens , like I don't know . I don't know , we're giving birth control to rats but some humans can't get it anyway . April we're kind of circling back , but april fool's day , because I was like where did this come from ? Oh yeah , what jamoke started being like let's just mess with people's brains . Yeah , there's a few conflicting stories on how it came to be .

They thought maybe it was the switch from the I think the jacobean , to the georgian calendar I was totally thinking that or the they don't know one , because I think people used to celebrate the new year in springtime because it was like the rebirth , but then it was switched to january , so then it was kind of like a oh , we fooled you , like april 1st is

not the new year anymore , like psych , yeah , but they were . We're not exactly sure . But then one of the most documented cases is there was a French nobleman and he sent his servant out on all these ridiculous errands once on April 1st , and it was a fool's errand , hence the name ,

april Fool's and all that jazz . But then one of the biggest april fools takes ever was in 1980 . The british government said that big ben the clock well , actually big ben is actually the bell , it's just whatever . But they were saying that they were going to replace the clock with a digital clock and call it digital date . That's funny , that's really funny .

So look at the British . And then in France , whatever they call April Fool's Day translates to April fish and they do a lot of fish themed pranks , which I thought was gross . Yeah same . I kind of got taken by one . I got an email from this pants company , this men's clothing company got taken by one .

I eat breakfast religiously . I don't always eat it in my pajamas , right , because you're out of your , you're in your workout clothes . Yeah , do you eat breakfast ? I do . I love breakfast , it is my favorite meal and if calories and time did not exist , I would have like big old fat girl breakfast every morning . Is fat girl breakfast a thing ?

Is it like a hot girl ? Summer I would eat all the like . I want all the carbs chocolate , pancakes and hash browns and which don't go together ? No , but will you put them together ? Hash browns and which don't go together ? No , no , but will you put them together ? No , not when I was pregnant I'd be like sure , let's do it .

But uh , do you put anything on your chocolate chip pancakes ? I'm not a big syrup fan , because I know you're not a condom , I know . So I like a sometimes a little bit of syrup , but sometimes a little bit of powdered sugar .

Sometimes , okay , I don't mind powdered sugar , but I'm not like my grandmother was very strict on french toast and waffles need powdered sugar . Yes , I always like when my kids get a nice carby treat , so then I usually there's usually a bite left over for me . I usually order an egg white omelet , because I've been doing a lot of avocado toast lately .

Well , I've got the patto toast , but I still am always like don't get the hash browns , don't get the breakfast potatoes , and I always do , always do For breakfast in our house . I always eat a bowl of oatmeal with berries . I have a question about oatmeal . It's the most boring breakfast ever . I eat an English muffin . That's boring .

What's your question about oatmeal ? I was curious if you ate it and if you would recommend it , because I wonder if that would be a . Because I looked and that's one of the most healthy things you can eat for breakfast oatmeal and berries . That's why I do it .

Well , good for you , because then by at the end of breakfast at least I'll have one out of three meals healthy . Oh , good to know . So try not to cheat at breakfast . Yeah , I like to kick things off . I drink like a gallon of tea . What kind of oatmeal do you get ? The plain old , like quick oats that you put in the microwave for a minute .

But I don't do like the . I would love a maple and brown sugar , but no , this is non . No sugar , straight up , just plain old oatmeal . Plain old , plain old oatmeal All right , but it's got to be nice that it's hot . It tastes like gruel . Oh , do you ever sing the song from Oliver ? I don't know it .

No , I feel it's a half a cup of oats and a cup of water , and then you put it in the microwave for a minute and 10 seconds and then I usually drizzle a little milk on there to cool it off and mix it up , dump some berries on there , mix it up , let it sit for a minute or two and then you're done . Do you eat right when you wake up ?

Yeah , I eat something before I work out , just like a little . Yeah , how about you ? Yeah , I can't work out on an empty stomach or else I feel a little faint , like losing . But I'd like to eat breakfast with the kiddos . Yeah , does your family all sit down for breakfast ? We do . How See , my family all leaves at different times . Well , I've got Aiden .

He leaves first and I sit with him and I'll drink tea and I'll talk with him . That's nice . And then , when he leaves the younger three , I get up and I have their breakfast and you make it ? I do , but it's like waffles . What ? Like frozen waffles ? Oh no , rose is on a Rice Krispies kick , so she has Rice Krispies . Kevin is on an Eggel waffle kick .

Rory likes dry cereal . I'm just going to eat a dry corn . Check , that's nice that you all sit down for breakfast and then we try to go through the day , talk about what's going on and then out the door . That's awesome . But you guys are coming and going .

Yeah , because three days a week Mike has football commitments before school and then Elle leaves at a different time and then Catherine , grace and John leave about the same time . But one walks , one rides their bike , so it's a little different and they get up at different times .

So I usually set something out on the counter and nobody really eats that and they all pick their own thing . But at least I've given the effort when they come down the stairs to be like , oh , she set something up , oh , that's nice . What about the weekends ? We ever be like I'm making pancakes or waffle ? No , we'll do . Sometimes I'll do b for d .

I love b for d , and then I'll make something like what you have a great breakfast , breakfast casserole that you make . Well , I do ? Yeah , I usually only make that for like holidays . Holidays , um , yeah , but no , then I'll cook like eggs and stuff . But there are a lot of eggs being cooked in my house which makes me want to barf . You don't like eggs ?

Oh no , but they're high in protein . I love eggs , you do , yeah . How do you cook them ? Well , if I cook them , I make them in the microwave Same , okay , Okay , and some people have very strong reactions to that . I like them because they're fluffier . Well , it's cleaner , and you don't burn the pan . You don't scrape anything . Al tends to burn them .

That was one of the first things I learned how to cook was scrambled eggs in the microwave . That , and then I learned how to make chocolate chip pancakes Not in the microwave , no , on the griddle , on the stove top . Whatever my mom had like a pancake

griddle , she did . Whatever my mom had like a pancake griddle , she did . And now we have one too . It's nice . Do you use it ? Yeah , because for making pancakes for six people to have a little , to make four at a time , is a lot . What do you use ? Like the powder ? I use Bisquick , and there's a recipe on the- . Is it a powder ?

It's , yeah , kind of-ish . It's like a yeah , but there's the regular recipe which we always used growing up and then I realized , maybe like 10 years ago , there's the ultimate pancake recipe . What so ?

You add some sugar , but we use Splenda because of the diabetics in our family , and then baking powder and a couple other ingredients in there to add some vanilla , and they're way better . Are they fluffier or what are they ? They're fluffier and they just have a nice kind of taste to them , so that .

But we'll do a lot of Belgian not a lot , but Belgian waffles for dinner sometimes . Oh , that's a good idea , that . But yeah , I love that . We're a big bagel family . I thought of you because I had a bagel at the Florida airport . Yeah , and it was horrible . Scottsdale had great bagels . Maybe there are New Yorkers there that brought the recipe with them .

Yes , yes , yes , here , not so much . I used to eat bagels in New York a lot because I would get them from a cart outside my office , but I don't get them very often here . What do you get on your bagel ? Usually ? This is a a weird one . They have cheddar , jalapeno , cream cheese , whoa , it's like a dip . Is it spicy ?

Yeah , oh , good morning , I just like butter , you do , which I like , with a diet coke . Oh , oh , oh , because you got to kill the spice . Yes , yes , there you go , um , but I don't . They have good soup at the our neighborhood and sometimes I get a bagel sandwich .

I love a breakfast sandwich , you do , that's the best , and you know how to make them , don't you ? Well , no , al makes them . He makes a great breakfast sandwich . But I didn't really eat those until I moved to New York , because that was a huge thing in New York , the breakfast sandwiches . You didn't eat them before .

I guess they just weren't an option , because I think also , my mom would just make pancakes and sometimes French toast , all the carby stuff . We would eat them in high school . Oh , I had only ever had the McDonald's ones , oh , which I like ? I like an egg McMuffin and then I take the ham off . You don't like ham . What is that ?

Canadian bacon , canadian bacon ? No , thank you . Keep that in Canada . I love a lot of things from Canada , but not that . No , thanks , because that's ham , that's not bacon . No , right , I don't know . Don't ask me . No , but I , yeah , breakfast sandwich is delightful . Um , do you like to go out for breakfast ? Yes , I do . It's so nice .

I feel like also because breakfast is messy . I feel like it's hard to clean up breakfast , Like if you're making eggs or pancakes , oh I think I'm eating it . No , I'm pretty tidy when I eat it . Making breakfast just feels like a mess . There's milk and there's the batter or the eggshells and all that jazz .

That it's nice to go out and have somebody else do it , especially when it comes out hot and it's delicious During the week . If somebody's like , do you want to go out for lunch , sometimes I suggest breakfast instead because I like to meet for breakfast and then get on with my day . I like meeting for breakfast because then that means I usually skip lunch .

Oh , you do , because then I'm usually full . Like full , yeah , well , because I'm probably not meeting people at eight . Usually it's like a nine 1030 . Then I try and skip or lunch , and then I eat like 700 Cheez-Its or I'll have like a handful of pretzels 12,000 pretzels . They're very good , but yeah , but that was the first meal I learned to cook .

You know what else I loved about breakfast growing up ? Reading the back of the cereal boxes , I know , yes . Or digging for the gift . Yeah , the toy . In there we would gift yeah , the toy in there , like we would read the comic strips in the newspaper and I'd read my horoscope . Or do the word jumble , read the cereal box .

I know , and now you know what I'm gonna do . What do you ? Put a newspaper on my counter . Do you get the newspaper ? I get them online . That's the washer journal on the weekends newspaper . I I'm going to do a test . I'm going to get the physical newspaper and put it on the island and see if anybody sits and reads it . Maybe I'll sort it strategically .

Okay , stay tuned for that . All right , I'm excited to hear how this goes . Can you see four kids lined up reading the paper ? They probably won't even notice . That would be great , though . I think that would be nice .

I also was looking into the best , healthiest things to eat for breakfast , and we talked a little bit about oatmeal and berries , but cottage cheese is one of them . Not for breakfast , I know . Don't people put it on like peaches , peaches and cream Peaches and cottage cheese ? That means something different . But they also talked about smoothies , which I like .

Smoothies , chia seeds what are chia seeds ? I have chia seeds , no way . Oh , you're going to make me try one . No , but what are they ? They are high in fiber and omega-3s Great . And they're just little like seeds . What do they tell you from A chia , pet Plant , I don't know , and you just eat them out of the bag . No , no , no , I sprinkle them .

Oh , they're like poppy seeds . I was going to say like pepper , but , yeah , more like poppy seeds . They're kind of like I was going to say like pepper , but , yeah , more like poppy seeds . But they have fiber and protein , anything , because the kids like the protein in them and they have a lot of calories . Two tablespoons is 120 .

Dang , so I have some bulkers in my family . What is the serving size ? Two tablespoons , oh , two tablespoons , yeah , 120 calories , which is a lot for two tablespoons . But if they put them in like smoothies or in yogurt or in Greek yogurt to up the protein a little bit , do you like Greek yogurt , flavored Greek yogurt ?

Yeah , I find it very sour , oh , but anyways , I'll eat stuff because it's healthy , not because I really like it . See , you're good like that , but I can't mind overmatter Like my morning gruel . Yeah , go to my dry oatmeal . I'm going to give it a shot . I mean , I've had it before , but it's been like the kind you in the packets it's flavored .

But you can get that packet unflavored . Yeah , I'm going to give it a shot . Okay , why not ? Although it's getting well , it's not really getting warmer . Did you see that Japan likes to eat rice , fish and miso soup for breakfast ? I have heard that it's a thing . Yeah , can I tell you a funny breakfast story ?

Yeah , and then I know we got to get to highs and lows . When I was pregnant with Aiden , al signed us up to go with friends on a ski trip to Switzerland , and maybe you don't know this about me , but not an avid skier .

It had been a long time and I talked to my doctor I was probably like four months pregnant and she was like , well , are you a good skier ? I said no , she goes . Then I would not recommend skiing while you're pregnant in the Alps .

I was like fair , so everybody else it was like 10 people would go skiing and I was like wah , wah , billy , no-mates by myself . Who , billy No-Mates ? I don't know him . Tell us a British expression Like Billy No-Mates , like no friends , no-mates , Billy No-Mates , no friends . Oh my gosh , billy , no mates , billy no mates .

Like walking around this town and it was also like a disaster getting there . And then we had to go to this dinner and you were supposed to sled down the mountain , pitch dark , and I was like I'm pregnant , I can't do that . I had to leave dinner early and get a snowalet and then I had to take a taxi . I was not a happy camper .

You were Billy No-Mates , I was Billy No-Mates , pregnant no fun , nora . And I was a little chip on my shoulder , not happy about it . So Al's like let's go get breakfast . So we went and got breakfast the last day . We were there and I sit down and on Al's plate it looked like a wedge .

It was a little wedge and I was like , oh , he thinks that's cheese . But I knew it was butter . Oh no , did you let him eat it ? Yeah , he took like a big . So you were mad Well , I was super mad . A big fork full of this . And he put it right in his mouth and was like you were bitter nomates , not Billy nomates .

And he took the biggest bite of just pure butter and he was like did you know that was butter ? I was like , oh , yes , I did , it's nice having a go . And then it was okay . Then I was like okay , that was funny . And then I was like I don't know what that says about me . It says that you're a good sport . That's what it says .

I tried to be , you are , anyways , that's it . So now I'm really hungry , same . But before we go Now I want to go out for breakfast . Before we go , let's do a quick round of highs and lows . Oh yeah , let's do it .

My low is that our flight was canceled leaving Florida , and then which it wasn't that bad , it was just that Aiden missed the first day back after break . Yeah , that's a lot . That was a real pain in the neck . And then not only was our flight canceled , but our rescheduled flight was a connecting flight through Kansas

City . We had a three-hour layover in Kansas City , and then our bags didn't make it . I think my low would be the bags . The bags was bonkers , and so we had two bags . We got them back , but our booster seat is MIA . That's okay , she doesn't need it anymore .

But I also feel like , though , we have an extra , so I'm not driving around without a car seat , but part of me is like they should still compensate us for it . Yeah , I think so . Whether or not I need it all the time , that's still my property that you lost . They still lost something . So they said after five days they'll touch base again .

But , um , where is it exactly ? Where ? Is it like just hanging out in an airport somewhere ? Someone , someone's like check out this great booster seat that four kids have sat on . It's kind of a smiley Milo is . I somehow threw away a purchase , and it wasn't a big purchase . It was just like hand towels for the bathroom .

Oh yeah , yeah , yeah , for my bathroom , the kids' bathroom and the downstairs bathroom . So three packages of them . Shoot , I know I hate that . I hate that too . And then I did that on Thursday and garbage day was Friday . Oh boo , and it was just annoying . It literally threw money away . Oh , I'm sorry , but my hi is .

My mom was here and we did a little adventure to refresh my front porch and entryway . I noticed your new rug . It's lovely , yeah , so it was just a nice little spring refresh . Oh , it's nice to go shopping with somebody else to help you pick out things for your house . It is Especially your mom has such great taste .

Yeah , so that was a little perk to spring . Happy spring , oh , spring cleaning . How about you To Florida , being there , the sunshine , the pool . We went mini golfing at night , which was fun , which was great , because there were no complaints about it being too hot and obese . So it was really a win-win for everybody and yeah , we just had a blast .

We saw a movie when it rained and good food Looney Tunes . The Day the Earth Blew Up oh shoot , I know Bad day . Well , there's a whole gum pun plot line , so it's not as bad as you think . I was literally watching the movie and be like , oh , that's why it blew up . Okay , got it .

It was silly , you know we weren't looking to like have our lives changed , you know . So it was good . It was just a really nice trip . It was nice to get away . Now I got to honk her down .
