Mercury In Retrograde

Hi. Hello. This is a new environment that we are recording in today. Reach. Yep. It's lovely. So much to look at. I hope we don't get too distracted while we are trying to record. So we're sitting outside of my house under this beautiful tree. A little bit of light filtering through from the sun. I'm looking at my garden. Oh, man. I'm looking at your camper and two random chairs that look like they're just out of place because we took the table. Oh, the two random chairs covered in lavender plants and beach towels. Beach towels? Yeah. Listen, we live that swim life here, so there are always towels drying somewhere. Mhm. Yep. Cannot get away from it. That's like the worst feeling to as a mom when you walk into a bedroom and you're like what? What is this. Is this. Did you just take your bathing suit off and just keep it on the floor? You probably do not have that problem, but I do. Only if she, like, really gets distracted and forgets. But she's changing her swimsuit 2 to 3 times a day right now. Yeah, she comes home from one practice, changes your suit immediately into a dry suit because she usually has about half an hour, give or take, before she's out the door to the next practice and she hangs hers up. She's pretty good at it, and she's in the routine now of hanging her towel outside before she comes in the house. Yeah, I love sucks at it, but she's also she's also four, so I'll give her a I'll give her a pass on it. But do you know the one thing I bought ala some new suits this year and they were putting snaps in the bottom of them, which I thought was like ingenious in the crotch. In the crotch. Like. Why? I mean, maybe because we're afraid they're going to pop open as adults, but it makes. I don't need that in my life, Rachel. It makes going to the bathroom so much easier. Because the other thing I was thinking about is, thank God Eve has multiple suits, because there's nothing more difficult than trying to put on a wet bathing suit. Uh, back on your body. Right. Those two visual things snaps in the crotch for easy access to go to the bathroom. Not well. Or also sexy time on the beach, right? Because everybody wants to sand in your vagina. Or also, it's a Olympic sport of trying to get a bathing suit on a wet bathing suit back on after you take it off. I think they should add that to this year's Olympics. Yes, that would be very good for Paris. I feel like that just is very Parisian. Welcome to the athletes village where you can just unsnap and have some fun. Yeah, I bet everyone listening right now is visualizing those two activities. You're welcome. Oh my gosh, this breeze is so nice. It's lovely. It's a good thing we have one screens on our mics. Hopefully none of this comes through. I think we're good. I think we'll be all right. So it's been a minute since we've recorded Summer Has Descended and wow, chaos, energy shifting, different schedules. Just it's a good thing we we do runs where we catch up. Yes. So that we have we have episodes ready to go. Correct. Yeah. But yeah. Welcome. Welcome to two Mystic Mamas, the outside edition. You know, we are talking about astrology today. So I think that this is a beautiful place to be talking about how planetary alignments can affect our life. Yeah. And you know, astrology is one of those. Areas that you know you either. I don't want to say you either believe in it or you don't believe in it, but I think there's so much truth behind it. I think that when you, you know, think about the universe and galaxies and how small we truly are as a planet, and then you take into account how small you and I are as humans on this planet, right? I think there's just so much truth around all of it. The stars, the alignments of the planets, how they move, why they move the way they do, at what speed, the retrogrades, the solar flares, all of those things have an impact on energy and therefore have an impact on us. Right. Because energy, the energy is all connected, right? So it would be foolish to think that those things don't have some sort of an impact on us when we can simply just look at the tides and how they're affected by the moon. Right. And how it's all connected. It just is mind blowing when you think about how intricate and how microscopic things are and how they're connected. But in a and then you blow that out into a big picture type visualization and it's like, whoa, like whoa. And the fascinating thing, too is it's not super studied. It's always it's in every single culture. But they always say, you know, there's no scientific evidence. And yes, there is. It's called your intuition. You know it. You know it to be true, right? Yeah. Technically speaking, they do not have a, you know, something material that they can hold in their hand. And, well, the only reason they don't is because no one spent the money to do it. Because there's not a lot of money in astrology. There is in all the other money making, blah blah blah that have. I do think there's a fair amount of people that have bridged the gap between astronomy and astrology, and I've been trying to get more into following and kind of researching people that are quantum physics. Oh my God. I mean, you could you could go down that some rabbit holes here. So fascinating. I oh man, I can get down with some quantum physics. Yeah. There's plenty of scientific research to support or point you in the direction that there is a lot of validity behind this. Yeah. Without having concrete material facts, so to speak. Mhm mhm mhm. We are talking about Mercury in retrograde. Mhm. Yeah I think it's always there are so many memes that exist about Mercury and retrograde. Yes. Well we found that website retrograde.com and it's a legit website that you know I think too especially with you know Mercury has such a. Negative connotation when it goes into retrograde. But like naturally all of the planets retrograde at some, some throughout the year. But we're in an interesting year in 2024 where we have six planets that are going to be in retrograde. Do you want to explain what that means? So if I remember correctly and again, I'm not a scientist okay. So don't come for me. But are you sure Thomas Edison. Yep. Mhm mhm mhm. You mean Albert Einstein or do you mean Benjamin Franklin Franklin. We don't know if you guys don't know. There was an episode a couple episodes back where Kristen had written down a we call them Rachel isms in my inner circle. That was basically like, I know a lot of things about a lot of stuff because Albert Einstein did. I don't remember the whole quote, but basically I had said that Albert Einstein created the light bulb, which is not true. And then in the podcast, I said that Ben Franklin created the light bulb, which is also not true. So I'm also not a historian. Okay, so let's just put those two things out on the table. We I was at the pool of right after that, after that episode came out and a friend of ours came up, and she's known Rachel for far longer than I have. One of my best friends. We lived together. We've experienced a lot of life together. So yeah, she came up to me and she was like, dying laughing. She's. I just love how you just let her go and then you just keep going on. I'm like, yeah, who am I to bring Thomas Edison into this? Cause she's also the friend that, like, is yelling at the radio when she's listening to the podcast. I love you, friend so much. Yes we do. You want to come on the podcast. You can you can share some of these stories about me. So anyways, retrograde is when where the Earth's alignment is to the sun, and the planet that is in retrograde appears to be moving backward in the sky. But that's not actually what is physically happening. It's just the speed at which planets move. It just all changes. It just goes slower so it appears to be moving backwards. Backward. So in retrograde, you know, you're like moving backward. You're what would be the forward motion of not retro grading? What's the opposite of retro futuristic? I don't know, futuristic grading? Futuristic grading. I think it's just called moving. Like when it comes, it's moving direct into a sign. Okay. All right. See, don't come for me. I'm not an astrologer, but. Yeah. So when a planet is in retrograde, especially when we're talking about Mercury again. It gets such a bad rap and I feel like it is called Prograde Pro Prograde Motion. It is called moving direct. Okay, the terminology is prograde. There you go. Yeah. So now this is turning into a science episode. So you guys can all learn with us as we also learn as we go. And I remember when I first learned about Mercury retrograde, it was probably 5 or 6 years ago and I didn't even learn about it. I just remember people immediately being like, It's Mercury in retrograde. Oh my God, this blah blah blah blah, this, this thing happened and I'm in such a bad mood. So Mercury must be in retrograde and and I just remember it having such a negative connotation. And now that I've learned more about the retrograde, it really is a time for reflection and pause, right? And just taking things a bit slower and comprehending things and not jumping, which I think is such a good lesson for us as humans where we we do these things, we live our lives, we go about our schedules, and then we can get caught up in, you know, kind of forgetting the joys and the purpose of why we're all here. Bless you. Oh. Bless you. So, Kristin, sneeze is like a fairy. If I were to envision what fairy sounded like when they sneezed, it's like Tinkerbell sneezing. We have a little. I think it's important to note that a mercury retrograde happens 3 or 4 times a year, every year, every year. So this is not something that just comes out of the blue and whips your life up into a frenzy, right? It's a natural cycle, right. That happens throughout the year. It usually lasts around three ish weeks. The one that's coming up is going to be August 4th through the 27th, the official retrograde special retrograde. And then you have a pre retrograde and a post retrograde shadow period. Yes. That lasts about two weeks where you can still feel the effects. Yeah. But really again this is a natural cycle that is giving us time to pause and reflect and reassess. Mhm mhm. Right. It is highlighting some things that maybe we need to pay attention to. Yeah. Mercury governs themes that are all around communication, technology, thinking and travel. And so naturally those things are in our day to day daily lives like communication, whether you're communicating with folks at work or you're communicating with the members of your household or you're just communicating with yourself. It's just a time to be mindful. Write that how you communicate and what you say. There are words that are so powerful and I, you know, really try to be mindful of that. I am I can be quick to react based on, you know, words that I receive. I know that that is a trigger for me, the way that they are delivered. And so I have, you know, I just take that time to, to try to work on that part. But also, you know, technology, there can be major hiccups with technology, which, you know, also can affect especially work. And so when these things happen, right, because life is bound to happen and it's how we choose to react that is within our control to situations. And if it is during retrograde Mercury retrograde, they can be they can feel more intense because the energy is more intense. So it's just a good time that if you know that we're in Mercury retrograde and something happens, which it's going to because it's a little life, it's a time to just pause and reflect before having major reaction, right? Because if we take a step back, we can actually harness the power of Mercury Retrograde for our own personal growth. Absolutely. And, you know, we have a couple of things that are happening. Like you mentioned, it's like the time of or it's directly related to communication, right. What's also happening in this one particular is that it's moving through two zodiac signs. So it's going to start in Leo and it's going to move through Virgo as it goes through the end of August. So really in the beginning of August. It's going to be highlighting, you know, those themes that come with Leo are like creativity and self-expression and leadership and stuff like that. So you might see yourself challenged more in those areas during that first part and then as it moves, I think like around the 20th to the 22nd, it'll move into Virgo. And that really is the organization, detail oriented health sector of our lives. It's actually kind of cool. That's super cool. All of this is happening at once. It's giving us a huge amount of area of our life to kind of reflect and see maybe where we need to redirect the sales. And we also have a new moon smack dab in the middle of that. Yeah. Lots of. Yeah. And so you have different types of energy kind of calculating and coming together. And I think to that I would just encourage that again when things happen in life that you find so triggering, you're probably going to be even more triggered because of the energy at the moment. But it's all about perspective. And when you're able to not react and take a step back and just evaluate it and try to have a different perspective or view on it that can give, that can gift you a lot of growth. What are some of the most common misconceptions that you've heard about Mercury in Gatorade, as they call it? Well, I don't know if it's a misconception, but I think just that it's easy to blame Mercury and retrograde when life doesn't go your way and when shit is hitting the fan and you're like, oh my God, it's Mercury in retrograde, fucking blame the planet and it's okay. I mean, that's again, that's a choice. You can you can totally redirect the the blame and. And, you know, I'm not saying blame yourself either, but I'm just saying that I think that it has such a negative connotation, and I think that it's such a time to just remain calm and slow down. And it's so hard sometimes to slow the fuck down. It is so hard, especially as women and as mothers were. Our brains are constantly like, go, go, go go, go. The other thing is that it doesn't have to be a self-fulfilling prophecy, right? If you have decided that everything is going to turn to shit in your life, it's going to fall apart during Mercury retrograde, then you're going to create that. Yeah, four times a year. Right. Right. So I think that I think the more people understand about Mercury and retrograde, the more that they can embrace that time where even if they forget, like when you guys are listening to this, Mercury will be in retrograde. And it's one of those things that you can listen to this podcast and then you for the next three weeks, you will remember when things start to go a little haywire or screwy that, you know, it's just part of the energy that is surrounding you at the moment. And it's not. Yeah. It's not. It's not a bad thing. A life doesn't have to stop. No. Right. We don't have to. Yes. You will hear all the time that don't sign contracts, don't enter into agreements, don't make the major purchases right. Unless they have what they say. Don't make any major purchases unless they have really good return policies. Or, um, if you purchase a car, if they have good warranties. But the thing is, is that you could find something in the planetary alignment on any given day. You can find something in the planetary alignment on any given day that would tell you not to make a decision. Yeah, or that everything's going to fall apart. And I would just say, you know, double check the details, be cautious and, you know, be more mindful, be more thorough. This is a time to really practice mindfulness. Yes. Rather than thinking that everything has to fall off the rails. And you know, the other thing that I want to touch on to with that to Kristen is I have found in the last seven months since we've started this podcast and that, you know, I, I left my job, that I keep coming back to the word surrender and allowing myself to surrender to things that are out of my control. And a lot of times with Mercury and Retrograde two, that's what it can feel like. It can feel like there's a lot of things that are chaotic and crazy, and they're not even within your control. And I find that when I am starting to feel like that, it is so much better for me to just surrender. Another term that I use a lot is I just give it over to God. I give it over divine source energy. If things are like just too overwhelming for you, that's a completely valid place to be and a valid feeling. But you also, in that same breath, don't need to control everything and you can just surrender it. You can let literally let it the fuck go. That song is so annoying and so catchy and it was so well written. But just let it go, surrender it over, let control, let go of the control. And I struggle with that. Yeah, I struggle with having that control sometimes. I think a lot of people do. Dude, I thought that bird was coming in. Coming in for the. I was like, oh, he's gonna sit on the table with us. Remind me to tell you a story. Okay, tell me a story this morning. This morning we had just woken up. We were laying in bed, so I was. I have the Merlin app on my phone. Do you have this app where you can listen to the bird sounds? So you record? You've told me about this. Why is it called Merlin? Now I need to know because I know it's called Merlin bird ID and Cornell University runs it. It's a study. Fascinating. Yes, it's very cool, actually. It is a free app. And. Well, now I need to get it. Yeah. So you record the sounds around you and it'll pop up and tell you what the birds are. You did it with that down here, right? Okay, so this morning all the birds were talking to me as soon as I woke up. So I started recording. And. Did you have a bald eagle? I didn't This morning I had a American robin. Cardinals. Typically we have a longer list, but this was just American robins, cardinals, blue Jays, and the crow. Oh, the crow. The crow continues to pop up for me, you guys. Spiritually, all things point to crow. I am getting messages from the other side. Good omens. It's. It's really great. This morning, as I'm recording, a crow lands on my roof, I could hear it. I was like, what is this sound? And I have skylights above my bed. Yeah. And I look up and there's just a crow staring in the fucking bedroom at me. And then he looked at me and then just took off, and I was like, oh my God. We've talked about this, about learning to talk to crows. Yes. Now they're now they're landing and staring at me while I sleep. I have peeping deer. I have peeping crows. I might need to stop sleeping naked. No. Embrace it. Embrace that lovely body of yours. They do. That's why that's probably. I mean, again, peeping has a negative connotation, but I feel like with nature it's. Look at this fine piece of art. I mean. Exactly. They're like, I'd tap that. So okay. So how do you add that we now know that you would have a relationship with the whistle pig. And I apparently attract crows with my magical feminine body. But now it begs the question how do you how do you talk to crows? I don't know, but I was researching through some books afterwards. This morning I pulled my card and then I was like feeling inspired to pull a bunch more. And I pulled out a book that I've had since high school. Wow. And Charlie was like, he saw it sitting there. He was like, when did you get this book? And I was like, oh no, I've had this in the copyright was like 1996 or whatever when I looked at it. And so there is actually a ritual in there for finding and trying to communicate with your animal totem. Mine is a mine's also a bird. I mean, I feel like I have wolf energy, right? Like I feel that. But these crows, man. Hold on. We're being invaded. Please pause. Please enjoy this break while the helicopter lands. And, uh, Rachel enjoys her chocolate. Our lightning bugs have been so, so good. So magnificent. You should have been insane. You have to come out here one night. Because if you just look up, they're all in the trees. The trees? Yes. I mean, it's fucking magical. So when we were at my parents house. Tom. And Tom was well. Tom. Tom, can I tell you tried to not say his name. And you're like, well, you know, Tom, tom, tom, tom, tom, tom, Tom, let me say something. That's not his name. Okay. So, Tom, Tom, you know what? We can leave it in. I know I have his permission. He's from Tasmania, which is a state in Australian Tom. Yeah. Tasmanian Tom. And they don't have lightning bugs. So it was so interesting because he's the same age as me. And he was like the first time he's seen lightning bugs in his life. Oh, I'm so glad he had that experience. Was he freaked out by them or what he thought it was. He thought it was amazing. Oh, that's so cool. He thought it was just the coolest, the coolest thing. It's like, kind of like seeing bioluminescence for the first time. I was just gonna say that. Yeah, yeah. So here's kind of a little bit of what we have going on And this is really focusing on themes of like community as well as individuality, innovation and a really powerful time for releasing old patterns and new ways of thinking, which is so fantastic as we're kind of be moving towards the end of summer here. Right? So we actually have a new moon on August 4th, which is the start of Mercury retrograde. Mhm. The new moon is always correlated to setting new intentions. Right. This is where we plant the seeds. And because this is in Leo, this really has a lot to do with like self-confidence and personal projects. Right. Stuff like that. And while the new moon is typically when we start new ventures and we have this Mercury retrograde, which is telling us to slow the fuck down, I want to give some pointers just on kind of how to move through that, that new moon energy. And the biggest thing I would say is continue with your life, set your intentions, but do it with flexibility, right? Do it in a way that it's not set in stone. This is really a time to focus on the internal work that we're doing. We've talked about the shadow work, clearing up communication not just with others, but with yourself. What messages are you sending yourself? And really embrace the patience and adaptability that comes with this season, right. And harness the energy of the zodiac. It's there. Is it for sure? For sure. We should probably just touch on. What does that mean? When we say harness the energy of so each each sign. And now if you've looked into your natal chart at all, you'll find that you have a sun sign, moon signs, rising signs, all your planets. Everything is in a certain place when you're born. And this can tell us a lot about ourselves, about our lives and our personalities and things that we're just generally drawn to in life. And there are certain signs that are ruled by Mercury that are going to be more affected by this retrograde than others. I am one of those signs. Gemini, and I believe Virgo is another one of those signs which is also happening during, you know, that shift is happening during the Mercury retrograde. So Virgos. Yeah. Watch out. Yeah. And a good way to harness energy is doing any sort of meditation, grounding exercises where you just you find time for yourself to be, you know, get out of your ego, try to get into your higher consciousness. Just try to raise your vibration up and absorb what is coming to you, right? If you if you are a Leo or a Virgo, you got a lot happening right now. I believe Venus is also retrograde in Leo and Mars is in Virgo from July 25th through September 7th. And I think Pluto. Is it Pluto? There's six planets that are going to be in retrograde at the same time. That's a lot. That's a lot. Yeah. And I think, you know, again, if you're new to astrology, this can be very overwhelming. I'm just talking from personal experience because I'm like, there's 12 houses and then you have a sun moon rising, and then you have a blah, blah, and you're like, what the fuck? And then you have your sign. And I like to complicate things because that's just how I roll since I was born. But I'm a I'm a cusp baby, so I'm a Scorpio. Libra coz we were just talking about that too. We're Christians. I feel like you are somewhat Scorpio, but like I feel more Libra and I've never really looked into Libra. I've always been the cusp. If you were born really anywhere from like the 17th to the 25th of your month. Yeah, you're you're a cusp, baby, I am I am also a cusp. Yeah. So it means you can kind. You kind of got a foot in both signs. You're kind of like, you know, you get, you know, because I with the Scorpio was telling Christine is, you know, the scorpion is the symbol for Scorpio. And naturally, they have a stinger on the back of their tail. And they can, you know, they use that to dismantle and disable and kill their predators. I'm not saying I've done any of those things, but Rachel's coming for you guys. Don't don't Don't. Don't cross me because I'm like, I'm not. I can be not cool. I try very hard to never go down that path unless, like, you are just so deserving of it. I can't even tell you the last time I, like, lost my shit on somebody other than my children. Bless those humans. Why is it that we lose our minds on the people we love the most? What is that? What is it? Because we feel safe and comfortable and we know that even when we're. Acting in ego and in our shadow self that they're going to still love us. Yeah. It's so true. When our children naturally they will. You know, it's the same reason that our kids will act out to us more than they will to other people. Other people. It's the people that they trust and love. Yeah, yeah yeah yeah yeah. I lost my mind the other day on on the kids on Saturday. And I'm just going to share it out there because I need to own this. And I immediately felt shame after I did it. But this is something that I'm really trying to work on. So like they, Emlyn and Graham were playing, they were on the phone with my best friend. They're FaceTiming, and Emmeline put Graham on her shoulders and she apparently asked him if he farted, which he hadn't. But then he did, and so she launched him off her shoulders onto her floor. And he she did it with such velocity that he hit the floor, skidded and slammed into her bed, and I could hear it from my bedroom. So I was like. And of course I was playing Gummy Bear on the speakers. And of course, that song would be on while it was blaring on all of the speakers in the house. For some reason, she's learned to do that not just in the kitchen. Right? So I was like, Hey, Google, stop. And I like run into the room and I just see emotions. I didn't mean to, I didn't mean to, I didn't mean to. And I was like, I was like, what in the actual fuck is wrong with you guys? And then I, like, picked the phone up and I was like, hey, I gotta go. And I hung up and I was like, oh! And I felt such shame for reacting like that. I was so triggering. And so I just stood there and I like, did some deep breaths and emotions crying and Graham's crying. And I am on the verge of tears. And here comes Ayla. Hey, mommy, why did you turn off Gummy Bear? I was dancing in the kitchen and I was like. But it broke the tension, right? I was like, so sorry, Isla. Go ahead. Go put it back on. Right. Ah, and then I just turned to Emmy and I was like, I'm really sorry that I, I said that. Well, I said it to both of them. I was like, I'm really sorry I said that. I'm really trying to work on. Not reacting like that. I said, I find these types of situations very triggering, you know, because an ambulance, well, I didn't I was like, Emlyn, you don't know your own strength and your brother is a fucking feather. If you're going to throw him, he's going to go. It's not like trying to throw daddy. Yeah, okay. Also recognize everyone just has a responsibility in the in the whole scheme of things. Right? Right. And then I brought it in. We all hugged. Try to get it to that 2020 second hug part. But then I had to call my best friend back and be like, okay, you witnessed a very vulnerable, raw parenting moment, one that I would not broadcast out. That happens, but it does. And I think it's great that you're sharing it. I felt, I felt I immediately felt shame. Oh babe, you know, and I think that's part of that shadow work for myself, right? I mean, nothing is going to bring out what we need to work on and highlight that more than our children. Nothing. No, I mean, because here's the thing. We look at our kids and we see parts of ourselves that we feel shame of in ourselves sometimes, right? Or that we have passed along a certain trait or whatever it might be. And when we see our children act out in a certain way where we've maybe acted out in the past and have felt remorse, regret, shame, whatever for having acted that way. It's almost like we are reacting to ourselves, not to them. It's so true, right? Even if it's the first time that they've done something. Oh, it's so true. And shame is such a powerful feeling and I think shame. And again, this is just my own personal take on it. But shame for me am not comfortable with shame. I tried to get out of feeling shame as almost as soon as I get into it. Remember, discomfort is not a threat. No, it's there for us to grow, to learn. And the same thing with Mercury retrograde. It's not a threat. It's not, it's not. This is a really and it's the fastest moving planet. So it's kind of like as soon as we get into it, we get out of it too, right? Because there's other planets that stay stationed for seven years or 20 years or 15, 40 years. Yeah, right. Like, yeah. You know, like Uranus is one of those I think that is in like a six, seven year stretch of being in Taurus where it's like, yeah, expect the unexpected. Yeah. It's changing. Yeah. Right. I read a quote that when we were doing some research for this that said, the more you can embrace chaos or lack of control, the better you'll survive this cycle. So again, it's just this is I'm primed and ready for this because I live with chaos. And his name is Charlie. Oh, yeah. He's been training me for Mercury retrograde. He's so great. He he I think he prides himself on being. There was a quote unquote chaos everywhere. Yeah, I, I will quote him earlier. He, he came out to set up this table for us and we were walking out and he's well, he's I just want to know the placement that I should put the table because I'm not sure which which way, which direction the sun moves. And I was like, well, I hate to share this. This fact with you. But it goes east to west every single day. Calm down, Thomas Edison. I know, Rachel, I got your back, babe. Don't.
