First-generation means you are the first to have a different experience from your parents. First-generation student or graduate is a term used to describe the identity and experience of people whose parents did not earn a 4-year degree and they are the 1st to earn these degrees. In my case, I'm first-get high school, undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral program graduate.
