ARE MIRACLES NECESSARY? One should not presume that the Messianic King must work miracles and wonders, bring about new phenomena in the world, resurrect the dead, or perform other similar deeds. This is definitely not true. (Rambam, Mishneh Torah, Melachim u’Milchamoseihem, 11:3) The Rambam clearly rules that Moshiach does not need to perform miracles. Yet, according to our prophets and sages, many great miracles will occur in the time of Moshiach. Furthermore, the resurrection of the dead is one of the basic tenets of our faith. Nevertheless, these miracles are not a requirement to determine Moshiach. Instead, the High Court will determine Moshiach’s identity by examining his righteousness and his ability to fulfill the actions and achievements required of him. Likkutei Sichos, vol. 27, pg. 191
