LIVING A FULL LIFE
Today marks the anniversary of the Mitteler Rebbe’s birth and passing.
The Holy One, Blessed be He, gives the righteous full years, complete to the very day of the same month.
(Talmud, Rosh Hashanah 11a; Sotah 13b; Kiddushin 38a)
Among the Rebbes of Chabad, the Mitteler Rebbe is unique in that his birthday and passing fall on the same date. Although all of the righteous merit “full” years spiritually, this is not usually expressed in the actual dates of their passing. The Mitteler Rebbe merited this because he exemplified the union of spiritual and physical. He dedicated his life to explaining the teachings of Chassidus at great length so that they could be grasped by the human mind.
All of us must increase our learning of Chassidus in the Mitteler Rebbe’s style of broad understanding. In addition, we must bring everything that we learn into action, uniting the physical with the spiritual. By doing this, we prepare for the time of Moshiach when the physical and the spiritual will be completely united.
