Episode description

On Friday the 12th of April the NSW Council of Civil Liberties went before the NSW Electoral Matters Committee to request that the committee recommend that the restrictions placed on inmates be lifted. Under the NSW Electoral Bill, people serving a prison sentence of 12 months or more are prevented from voting.

We spoke to Dr Lukas Carey, a criminologist from UNE who does a lot of work with the prison system in Australia, about the importance of voting rights for people within the criminal justice system.
