¶ Introduction and Opening Prayer
Open your Bibles to John chapter 10, and we'll start in verse 1. Thank you so much, Kurt. Thank you, Thomas. Thank you, Brad, back there, Robert, Paul, Alfred, Stacy, back there, our children, Allie. Thank you so very much, Josh, and everybody that serves. Thank you to everybody that showed up today, everybody listening online. Those of you listening to the replay or the podcast right now, thank you so much for listening.
John chapter 10, verse 1, Jesus says, It says, most assuredly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. Verse two, but he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him, the doorkeeper opens and the sheep hear his voice and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.
Verse four, and when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them and the sheep follow him for they know his voice will conclude at verse five. Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him for they do not know the voice of strangers.
¶ The Importance of the Holy Spirit
Over the last several weeks, we've been talking about the Holy Spirit. We've been talking about the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit in us, with us, and on us. We've been discussing how the Spirit of God is God himself. And when Jesus departed the earth, he didn't leave the disciples as orphans. He left them himself, the Holy Spirit. And he said, Terry, wait until the Holy Spirit comes. And when he does come, you're going to receive power when he comes.
That word power is ability, might, efficiency. You're going to receive a level of connection with God that you maybe never even received before.
¶ Continuing the Discussion on the Holy Spirit
And so we've been going through the Holy Spirit. And all summer, I plan on talking about the Holy Spirit. And last week, we talked about the voice of the Spirit of God. And I want to continue today in discussing the voice of the Holy Spirit.
¶ The Necessity of Hearing God’s Voice
Because how many of you know that we are living in a day and age that we got to hear from God? We're living in a day and age where it is dangerous. And if we are not in tune to his voice, then it could be critical. I don't want to scare you. I just want to bring reality to you that we've got to hear the voice of God. And many of us are alone. Many of us feel lonely or frustrated. Many of us feel like nobody cares.
Many of us feel like nobody's thinking about us, that our life doesn't matter, that our existence doesn't matter. Many of us even feel like if I weren't here, then nothing would even change. And that is a lie from the pit of hell itself. God loves you. God has chosen you. God has given you a purpose and a plan and a mission for your life, something for you to accomplish. and he did not leave you alone and he did not leave you lonely.
He left you with the Holy Spirit. Now, the Holy Spirit is your invisible friend. You can't see him, but that doesn't mean he's not with you. It doesn't mean he's not in you. Matter of fact, Scripture says that the world doesn't even understand the Holy Spirit because they can't see him. But we are believers, right?
Are we believers or not? that means we can believe things that we don't even see we can actually have faith in a God that we've never seen before none of y'all had ever saw Jesus hang on that cross but you believe he did and you believe he died for your sins and rose and now you're saved you believe it and that's what believers do believers believe and so no matter how we feel no matter what our thoughts are telling us we are not alone. We are not lonely.
We have access to God through the precious Holy Spirit. Come on, somebody shout amen. Now in John chapter 10, we see here in the first few verses, I want you to imagine a sheep pen or a area where there are tons of sheep. And in verse Verse one, it says there that the sheep are in this pen, but if an enemy comes and climbs up any other way into the sheep pen, we know that that is a stranger and that is a thief, okay?
And so if you're at your house and somebody starts climbing up the side of the wall trying to get through the window, that is an enemy, okay? That is someone that doesn't need to get in your house, all right? But if you come through the door, somebody say the door. And Jesus said that he is the door. He said when he comes through the door, he speaks and his sheep hear. Now, there is a mixture of sheep in this pen. And when Jesus walks through the door, he leads them with his voice.
Now, I want to see verse 3 again, guys. I've put it on the screen, John chapter 10, verse 3. To him, the doorkeeper opens and the sheep hear his voice and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. I want you to know that Jesus knows your name. You're not forgotten. He knows your name. Matter of fact, he knows how many hairs are on your head right now. Your name is written in the palm of his hand. And every time he looks at his hand, he sees you and your name.
He calls his own sheep. I love this by name. And then he leads them out. How does he do this?
¶ Understanding the Shepherd’s Voice
All with his voice. Look at verse four. it says here and when he brings out his own sheep how did they come out with his voice he goes before them so he's leading them he's going before them and the sheep follow him why because they know his voice or let's say it this way they are skilled and proficient in hearing.
So imagine tons of sheep are in a pen, a shepherd comes, calls the sheep out by name, and the individual sheep that are in that shepherd's herd is leaving with the shepherd because they know his voice. Verse 5, we see here that they will by no means follow a stranger, But will flee from him for they do not know the voice of strangers. Now, show me verse 27, guys, if you don't mind. John chapter 10, verse 27.
¶ My Sheep Hear My Voice
Jesus says, my sheep hear my voice and I know them intimately, intricately, and they follow me. My sheep are not deaf. My sheep hear. My sheep give attention to my voice. The greatest thing we can give God is our attention. My sheep give attention to my voice. My sheep are listening for my voice. My sheep are in tune with my voice. My sheep recognize my voice. And Jesus says, I know them, and then they will follow me. We have to endeavor to cultivate our ability to hear God's voice.
We have to practice. We have to put ourselves in position. We have to negate distractions. We have to set up opportunities to get in the habit of hearing and listening. Amen. To the voice of the good shepherd. There are many voices. I told y'all last week, 1 Thessalonians 5.23 says that we are a spirit, we have a soul, and we live in a body. We are a three-part being. We are a spirit created just like God, in the image of God. The same spirit that God is, is in you and I.
Listen to this now. And if you've been born again, you have a brand new spirit that is just like the spirit of God. Don't shut me down when I'm preaching good, but you have a life-giving spirit on the inside of you created in the image of God. You also have a soul.
Your soul is your mind, your will, your emotions, the way you make decisions, the way you think, how you meditate, how you reason, how you argue, how you feel is all wrapped up in your soul and you live in this body, which is temporary. Different colors, different shapes, different sizes. It's very temporary. We live in this body and because our spirit lives in this body, the Holy Spirit also lives in our body. We are the temple of the Holy Spirit. And all three of you have a voice.
So when you say I'm hearing voices, you actually are hearing voices. You're not crazy because your body has a voice and the voice of your body is feeling. I don't feel like waking up. I don't feel like going to work out. I don't feel like brushing my teeth today. I hope that's never you, but it happens, right? I don't feel like doing these. I don't feel like being kind. I don't feel like going to school.
I don't feel like, you know, going to work. I don't feel. That's the voice of our body, and it is speaking to us. Our soul has a voice as well, and the voice of our soul is reasoning. Where we are trying to calculate, and we are writing stuff down, and we're trying to determine, and we're trying to rationale, and we're trying to put things together in our reasoning capacity, that is also the voice of the soul. And then the voice of your spirit is your conscience.
And if you're born again, you can trust the voice of your spirit. You can trust your conscience when you hear something come out from the inside of you. A lot of times your spirit, man, you're going to hear it here in your gut. Your soul is going to be all right here in your mind, and your body is just going to be your five physical senses, right? These are all voices that are speaking to you. And then you have the devil who's talking to you through thoughts.
And then you have the Holy Spirit who's talking to you. So you are hearing at least five voices, okay, if you're born again. Now, if you're not born again, you're not hearing the Holy Spirit, okay? And that's who we're trying to tune into, the voice of the Holy Spirit. So we're hearing all these voices, but Jesus said, my sheep are skilled in hearing my voice.
My voice is a priority to my people. and this is how you're going to have to set up your philosophy and your way of thinking that the voice of God is a priority to me. My sheep hear my voice and I want to tell you that the voice of the good shepherd is usually the quietest voice. The loudest voice is the one you feel, right? Your reasoning can take over but the quietest voice is usually the voice of the Holy Spirit. And so my sheep hear my voice.
So when someone tells me I'm not hearing the voice of God, it's, you're, you're lying because Jesus said, if you're a sheep, You're going to hear the voice of God. Or you have to ask yourself, if you're saying, I'm not hearing the voice of God, you need to ask yourself, am I a sheep? Or am I a goat? Or am I a donkey? There's another word I want to say, but I won't say it. Am I that? Okay. You have to figure out, am I a sheep? Am I in the sheepfold of Jesus?
Have I given my life to Jesus? is because if I have, then I can hear his voice. I was created for fellowship purposes, to hear the voice of my leader, to hear the voice of my coach. I may talk about that next week. To hear the voice of my comforter and my helper and my guide. I'm created to hear his voice. And Jesus said, you will hear my voice, but here's what you and I have to do. We're going to have to follow his voice that we hear, and we'll talk about that later.
Today, I want to talk about a way that we can be in tune to the leadership and the guidance of Jesus through the precious Holy Spirit.
¶ The Spirit of Man as the Lamp of the Lord
Proverbs chapter 20 and verse 27. Proverbs chapter 20 verse 27 says, It says, "'The spirit of a man is the lamp of the Lord, searching all the inner depths of his heart.'" Now, keep that on the screen and watch this. "'The spirit of a man.'" Now, I just said that we are a three-part being. The Bible says that we're a three-part being. We are a spirit. We have a soul. We live in a body. Okay? Here, we're talking about the spirit of a man. That is the real you.
The spirit of the man, watch this, is the lamp of the Lord or the candle or the light of the Lord. Your spirit is the lamp, the candle, or the light of the Lord. Now, watch this in Psalms 18, 28. Psalms chapter 18 and verse 28. eight. That's 27. If we can get 28, that will be perfect. Here we go. For you will light my lamp. The Lord, my God will enlighten my darkness. Now we saw in Proverbs, our spirit is the lamp. Here we see that God will light our lamp.
What does that mean? He will light our spirit. The primary way that we hear from God is through a light on the inside of us. Now I want to say this because I want you to hear this.
¶ Sensing the Light Within
It is not through a voice. Now, we'll get into hearing the voice of God in the weeks following. Today, I want you to be comfortable sensing the light on the inside of you. There is an inward witness, an intuition, a light that will illuminate on the inside of you, which is how the Holy Spirit will lead you. Let me give you an example. Almost two decades ago now, I proposed to Stacey Carruthers at the time, and I never heard the Lord tell me to marry Stacey. I never heard a voice.
I had a light on the inside of me. And when I thought about marrying her, when I thought about my times with her, when I was around her through our conversations, I just got lit up. And I'm not talking about lust. I'm talking about a light. I just got lit up on the inside. It just was an illumination on the inside of me. I've never heard the Lord say, that is your wife. I've never heard those words.
I just got excited when I thought about it. And then when I went ring shopping, I was excited about ring shopping. And was I nervous in my flesh? Absolutely. My body was like, are we making the right decision? My mind was like, I don't know. There might be other girls out there. You know, I don't know. I don't know. But my spirit was illuminated with light. This is it. I went ring shopping. Was excited to drop thousands of dollars on a ring that I had saved up for, by the way. Praise God.
Pay cash for it. Somebody say amen. Amen. And I got really, really excited. About the idea of Mary and Stacey Carruthers. Just an excitement, a light, an illumination. The Lord was leading me through that unction. He was leading me through that illumination. He was enlightening my darkness. Put Psalms 18, please, one more time on the screen, verse 28. Psalms 18, 28. I want you to see this. For you will light my lamp. Watch this. the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.
What is darkness? I don't know what to do. I don't know where to go. I don't know what decision to make. I don't know what I should or shouldn't do. The Lord will light your spirit. And then he will show you just by following the intuition, the inward witness of God on the inside of you, you will be enlightened and you don't necessarily all the time hear a voice. You just follow the intuition.
This is what the Lord's telling me to do. And I remember on my wedding day, I'm just being full disclosure to you guys. I was still wondering, am I making the right decision here? You know, am I missing it? And I know I never communicated that to her. Now listen to me folks don't ever communicate nonsense to your lady because that will get in their mind and then they start wondering if you're the right one or not. All right, listen to me now. I don't know if you're the right one.
Now I don't know if you're the right one. You don't want that, okay? So I never communicated that to her. You can take that verse down. I never communicated that to my lady at all. I just was wondering, you know, is this right? And I remember, it's even the wedding day. And I'm, oh, Lord, is this it? Do I need to turn around? I don't know. I had some great groomsmen that were like, you ain't going nowhere. This is it, you know? This is right.
And it's good to have some good friends, amen? And I remember I stood there and the way we had an outdoor wedding and there was a big lake behind us. It was really, really nice. And we were standing right there on the lake and she was she was coming down and she came out. And when I saw her come out, I just knew this is right. And I thought I'll never question it again. This is it. Why? Didn't hear a voice. Christ, light.
When she came down those stairs, there was a light that just once again illuminated on the inside of me. And all of a sudden, the wind got the blowing and some water started coming out of my eyes. It wasn't crying, okay? It was the wind. I don't know what was going on. It started coming out and I knew right away, this is the light that I should follow. Come on, somebody say Amen. The Lord will lead you this way. Let me give you another example.
There was a time I was in college. Before I went to Jerry Savelle's Bible School, I went to an HBCU. I went to a college in Dallas, Texas, and many of my friends wanted to go to this event, and everybody was going to this event. It was somewhere in Dallas, and everybody that I knew was going, and they were They were like, come on, Devon, let's go. I didn't, I sensed a red light. On the inside of me. It wasn't a green light. It was a red light.
I was like, I'm not supposed to go. I never heard a voice. I'm not supposed to go to this event. Everybody was going. Okay? Everybody. So I'm feeling like on the outside, I need to be there. And if you knew me back in my early 20s, I wanted to be around what was happening. Okay? If it was hopping, that's where I wanted to be. Right? And I just kept sensing a red light. Don't go. I'd never heard don't go, but the red light means stop. And it was a red light on the inside of me. And they're like,
come on. And a couple of people were really encouraging me to go. And I said, I'm not going. And my friends, we just like to go have fun. And at the time, wherever there was loud music and dancing and having fun, that's what we was doing. You know what I mean? Don't act like y'all weren't 20 years old before. I know y'all got real quiet when I started talking about that. You were 20 before. And, you know, we just enjoyed that. And I said, guys, I'm not going.
I just can't make it. Now, when I turned 30, I just would have said, I ain't going. When I was 20, I had made up a reason why I couldn't go. Well, you know, I got to work early in the morning. You know, I came up with something, and I just didn't go. If I would have told them there ain't no, you know, there's a red light, they'd be like, what are you talking about? But there was a red light on the inside of me.
I didn't go. Oh, well, lo and behold, my friends go to this event, and one of my friends brought his girlfriend with him, okay? And you know the old saying, not supposed to bring sand to the beach, you know, but he did, okay? He brought his girlfriend with him, and then somebody said something to his girlfriend, and then somebody touched his girlfriend, and they got in a fight. I mean, a fight broke out, and one of my friends went to the hospital, Ruthie, got beat up and went to the hospital.
Another friend had some wounds and licks, and the whole brawl broke out at this event because they went out, and somebody touched somebody's girlfriend, and a big old rumble come. And even to this day, these two friends, one of them that jumped in to help, and the guy that had the girlfriend are still sort of at odds today. Because he felt like the guy that went to hospital felt like you didn't help me when I got when I got you know Hit and felt that you didn't help me. Where was you at?
And the rumor was he was running Okay, so I don't know what the truth is. Okay, so I don't know. I don't know Kurt I don't know what the truth is because I wasn't there. I. I wasn't there. Why? I listened to the light. There was a red light that was like, don't go to this thing. Guys, these are friends I still talk to today. I would have been fighting right along with them. I could have probably been the one there. But the light, the Holy Spirit, the witness said, don't go.
Don't go. yo, this thing came up about a year ago with these friends. I'm still mad at so-and-so. And I had to talk to him. I'm like, you know, he's really mad. You're going to have to reconcile that. Like, he's really upset about this. We're talking about 25 years ago. I didn't go. Thank God I didn't go. Who knows what would have happened? Police came and everything. It was a big brawl that took place. Who knows what would have happened if I got caught up in that mess?
Thank God for the inner light. He enlightened me, and my darkness was cleared because he said, don't go. When we are in tune with the Spirit of God, we will begin primarily to recognize what we're sensing in our gut. This is where the spirit man lives. and your spirit and the Holy Spirit resides deep on the inside of you and you can talk your way out of hearing the inward intuition from God. You can say, well, maybe that was that pizza I had last night.
Well, maybe I'm just being lazy. Well, maybe this or maybe that. You're coming up with reasons, but I want you to trust the light.
Just like you trust the traffic light outside when it turns red you stop you don't ask any questions you just put your foot on the brake that's exactly what you should be doing when you're following the leading of the good shepherd that doesn't sit well with me and if there's anybody that's trying to pressure you to get it make a decision right now that is the devil because you always have a moment to take a step back and say, I need to consult with the Holy Spirit.
Precious Holy Spirit, is this what I should be doing? And he'll lead and guide you. Now, this is me, and this is a personal, how I personally operate with the light of the Holy Spirit. I personally operate with the green light. I assume all of the roads on 74 will be green Until there's a yellow light or red light so for me. If the Lord says through a word to do something, or if he says it through a man of God, when I, the way I got into ministry was I was going to a fairly large church.
The youth pastor came to me. He said, I believe that you can help us with the youth. Well, I didn't pray about that at all. I said, well, man, you, you, you called to hear from God. If that's what you believe, I'm going to come down and help you, man. I was down there next, you know, I'm the youth pastor a couple of years later after that. Right. and moved on and on. I didn't, what am I saying? I just followed someone that I trusted, their voice.
And I said, okay, precious Holy Spirit, if that's not right, you'll give me a yellow light or a red light. I never saw the yellow light or red light. It was the right decision. Most people are sitting around, listen to me now. I'm waiting on God. And God's looking like, I'm waiting on you. I'm waiting on God. Well, when God tell me to do that, that's what I'm doing. God's like, listen, brother, if I ain't said no, that means yes.
I'm telling you how to get the move in. When I moved to Charlotte, North Carolina back in 2004, that was a big decision for me because I was coming from Fort Worth, Texas, and I sensed that there was transition and I didn't know where I was supposed to go and I parked my car. I told the story on Wednesday night and I'll tell it again. I wanted to get to a place where I could hear from God. I drove my car to an empty lot and just parked.
I said, I'm just going to sit here. Sometimes for me, hearing the voice of God in the car, I'll cut the music off, cut the preaching off, and I'll just sit and just listen, driving, just listening. Lord, what are you saying to me? And I went and parked my car. I sat there for four hours just listening to my heart, listening and sensing the. Looking where the light is because he's going to lighten my lamp. And I had an opportunity to come to Charlotte, three opportunities during that
time. It was Charlotte, Amarillo, or it would stay there for another opportunity. And every time I thought about Charlotte, I saw a bright light. That was it. I just saw a bright light. I didn't know what would happen. I just saw a light. When I thought about Charlotte, I got lit up. When I thought about going to Amarillo, Texas, I didn't get excited about that. When I thought about staying where I was, that didn't make me excited. But there was a light, bright, on the inside of me.
Anytime I thought about moving to Charlotte, I never heard Paul God tell me to move to Charlotte. Never heard a voice. Just followed the light. Well, I sit there, and next thing I know, people are coming, and they are in this area that I thought was abandoned.
I thought I parked Latorian on an abandoned spot and next to people are navigating moving around I'm like what's going on I look up I didn't parked in front of the liquor store I had no idea that was a liquor store that was an abandoned lot people were kind of going in getting their spirits I looked I'm like oh my gosh so I moved my car and went somewhere else so I always tell tell people, I sensed the light in front of the liquor store.
Let me clarify, I did not go in there and buy anything or drink anything. Okay, just let y'all know. Just the light. And I sensed in my heart while I was sitting there, there's something called an open vision. An open vision is when you're fully alert, but the Spirit of God will begin to reveal things to you.
¶ The Power of Open Vision
While you're cognizant of what's around I knew where I was and I sensed in my heart if I stayed in Fort Worth. I felt like the Lord told me or showed me this was the girl I was going to marry. This was the side of town I was going to live. This is what was going to happen. And none of that seemed exciting to me. But when I thought about Charlotte, just a light, like a light bulb would come on. And I said, this is where I'm supposed to go. And I moved to Charlotte.
And, you know, the rest is history. Moved out here. Met Stacy. She tells you the only reason the light bulb came on was because of her. And so that may or may not be true, I don't know, but I moved to Charlotte, and the rest is history. I followed the inner witness, the light. What is God illuminating on the inside of you? And it doesn't always have to be a no. Many of us have a posture of no. No, I have this no posture until I hear a yes.
I want to reverse this a bit. I want you to have a posture of yes, Lord, until he tells me, no, don't do that. Don't go that direction. There was, I don't know why I'm telling this story, but I'm going to tell it anyway. There was a time I was with a preacher, and he and I were with this guy, and it was a group of people we didn't know.
And the guy that we didn't know kept saying let me know if you need a supply let me know if you need a supply come on he kept saying that and i had no idea what he was talking about, most of the time we open up our mouth and we we start talking i heard the holy spirit through the inward witness don't say nothing just let me know if you need a supply But the guy with me is like, no, brother, what kind of supplies do you have?
He said, man, I want to come preach at your church, man. Let me know when I can come preach at your church. He said, I'm looking to supplement my income. I said, oh, Lord. He said, so let me know. Here's my information. I want to come preach at your church because I need some extra income. And I sat there and looked at that dude. No, that I never have. Ain't no shenanigan going to get up here with that mess. And I sat and looked back where the pastor, the other pastor came to me.
He said, why didn't you say anything? I said, I had a red light. When he kept saying that, I don't know what he was talking about. I had a red light. He said, I wish I was just as mature as you. He said, no, I got this man's number, and he took my number, and he going to be calling this, that, and the third. I said, man, you're going to have to listen to the inward witness. And the inward witness said, don't say nothing. I just sensed, don't say anything. thing.
Now, that was not life or death, but those are things that'll keep you on the right track. Let me say this to you very boldly. Jesus never missed it. A hundred percent of the time, in every situation, every encounter, he got it right. Now, you say, well, Jesus is the son of God. That is true. But when he came to earth, Philippians chapter two, verse seven said, he stripped himself. He came as a man of no reputation. He disregarded the divinity and divine privileges.
And he came to earth as a man. He didn't come as divinity. He came as a man who had the Holy spirit. That was the difference. No one else had the Holy spirit. He did. He came as a man with the Holy Spirit and showed us how to operate as a man or woman that has the Holy Spirit. I'm not telling you to be perfect, but I'm telling you that you have access to get it right 100% of the time. Are you listening to me? You can tap into being correct 100% of the time in every situation.
Well, why don't we do that, Pastor Devon? Because we override the inward witness. We ignore. We do what we want to do. Because I'm grown.
¶ The Holy Spirit Leading Through Difficult Situations
Don't shout me down, but I'm preaching good. because I'm grown nobody nobody tell me what to do I do what I want to do and then you get in trouble then you try to figure out how to get in this trouble I did not listen I did not heed the light now that doesn't mean that you won't go through difficult situations the Holy Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness to be tempted for 40 days and I that was a difficult situation that he He was led into.
So it ain't all peaches and cream and cotton candy and Doritos and Coca-Cola. The Holy Spirit can lead you into a difficult situation because you have the solution for that situation. There are some things that you're going to learn about yourself that you didn't know. There are some things you're going to learn about God that you didn't know.
There's some things that's going to help develop your character and your integrity that you would not have developed if you didn't go through these situations. So he can lead you through. Somebody say through. He said, yea, though I walk through. We didn't want to go camp out in the valley of the shadow of death. We're going to walk through it. He's going to lead you through it,
but we're going to follow his voice. and there are a lot of situations there are situations that I could tell on myself that I did not make the right decision. And if I go back and look, I didn't heed that inner witness. There are relationships that are broken in my life because I said some things. Come on, somebody. And if I would have held my peace and listened to the Holy Spirit and said, don't say that, but I had to say it because I was immature and young and dumb.
I'm going to say it because I'm Devon, okay? And you don't tell me what I can and can't say. Say, ruined relationships. I ain't the only one. Y'all look at me like, yeah, that's just you. No, no, it's you too. That's why I'm up here talking about it. But if you just yield. Say, I'm mature. Say that. In Romans chapter 8, verse 14, I'll end with this. Romans chapter 8, verse 14. It says, those that are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. We'll talk about this going forward, but listen to me. Notice he didn't say those that are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.
¶ Maturity in Following the Spirit’s Guidance
He said they're sons that means there is a level of maturity they're not a child anymore they're sons and daughters they're grown up those that are led by the spirit of God are mature, they're grown up they have a sense of responsibility and maturity these are the ones that God can lead and so it's time to grow up somebody say grow up say I'm mature, It's time to be mature enough to hear and heed what's happening on the inside of you, deep on the inside of you.
The Bible says in Hebrews 4, verse 12, that the Word of God can decipher between the soul and the spirit. So you want to, was that my mind or is that the spirit of God? Just pause and the word of God will tell you. That's me. And we'll get more into this when I got more time. We'll get more into it because there are times that your soul wants to do things that the spirit of God's telling you not to do. Well, I really want to help them out. This happened to me.
I really want to help them out and boom, here's a thousand dollars. We're going to help you. And that money got, I don't know what happened to that money. The Holy Ghost didn't tell me to give that money. I wanted to help them. And if I had listened to the inward witness, I probably would have not done that. But let me say this to you. Anytime you factor in being kind or anytime you're kind, factor in you may get taken advantage of.
Just go ahead and put it in the equation. I'm being kind. Just put it in. And this person might take full advantage of me. Just factor it in. Now, I don't even get upset anymore when I get taken advantage of because I just factor it in. That person took advantage of me. Now, they won't do it again, okay? All right? But I factor in. They took advantage of me. I was trying to be kind. Let's go ahead and put that in the equation.
But if you hear and heed the inner light, the Lord promised he's going to enlighten your darkness and you're not going to be dark anymore. Just heed what's going on on the inside of you. Come on, somebody say amen. This is how you experience true life.
