Case 147: Oxford Castle - A Place of Torture and Defence

With 1,000 years of history to its name, Oxford Castle & Prison has seen many people come and go, but some remain long after their first departure… Oxford Castle & Prison was recognised by the BBC as one of the most haunted buildings in the UK.

Paranormal Investigators have made contact with many spirits that haunt the Castle and its grounds. The site has seen conflict and invasions in its early history and then it became a prison which added another layer of misery and torture – if ever there was going to be some residual energy in a place then it’s surely going to be found inside Oxford Castle.

Just a few days before this podcast was released we visited Oxford Castle and got to take part in a ghost hunt from 10pm to 3am.

There were a few areas opened to us including some of the cells, the crypt, the mound in the Castle grounds where the first timber building stood and an upstairs area where prisoners were kept standing in their on bodily fluids.

The night was a unique opportunity to take part in an investigation rather than leading one.

We had activity in the area under the mound where there was a well and also in the area of both the crypt with a very strong ouija board session in the last twenty minutes of the evening and also in the area of the old cell block.

We totally recommend a visit to Oxford Castle.
