Barry Washington, Jr. was just 22 years old when he was shot and killed during a bar fight. Although his killer would argue that race had nothing to do with the shooting, the racial slurs his killer used shortly before shooting him, the characterization of Barry as a "big, angry Black man," and the fact that Barry was an unarmed Black man all speak to the contrary. This case highlights the racist undertones of Oregon and the modern lynchings of Black men - killed simply because of the color of their skin.
