Her persistent inclination to pass judgment and criticize me whenever things deviated from the ideal gradually eradicated any opportunity for an intimate connection. The fear of making mistakes and potentially disappointing her, even in unforeseen ways, became so overwhelming that it hindered the possibility of fostering genuine intimacy.
When one is subjected to trauma by the very person with whom intimacy is desired, the result is a conspicuous absence of genuine intimacy.
