The Central Park 5—We Are Free

The Central Park 5 aka the Exonerated 5, are symbols of both pain and redemption. The system rushed to convict them but years later new evidence uncovered their innocence and led to a multi-million dollar settlement that left them comfortable and empowered. And then Ava Duvernay’s Netflix film about them When They See Us  gave their story new oxygen. After that they felt truly liberated. On June 19, 2019 I spoke with two of the Central Park 5, Dr. Yusef Salaam and Raymond Santana, in Atlanta.
