She is one of the great musicians of her era, a woman who Ava Duvernay calls “a goddess.” She’s a brilliant funk and soul singer/songwriter/bass player who’s also now scoring Queen Sugar. She started the neo-soul movement that gave you D’Angelo, Erykah, Lauryn, Maxwell, and them. And she’s an amazing person who’s been through a lot.
