Episode description

Mae West once said, “Love conquers all things except poverty and toothache.”  Because while love is the energy that makes life meaningful, money is the tool that make life livable. And at the intersection of love and money comes a very important and often triggering conversation that when left undiscussed, can make for a very challenging romantic ride. In fact, multiple studies have proven that fighting over money is the number one predictor for divorce in the United States. Ultimately, the relationship we cultivate with dollars and cents will have an existential impact on the relationships we cultivate with lovers and partners. That’s why I wanted to chat with Mara Meinhofer, a certified financial planner who works with individuals and couples on an emerging practice called Financial Therapy, which empowers people to bring a sense of mindfulness to their money, and ultimately, their lives. In this episode, we talk about how spenders and savers seem to always find each other, how our earliest childhood memories subconsciously steer our financial habits, the tell-tale signs of financial abuse, how to open our hearts to financially merge with a partner, and so much more.

You can learn more about Mara here.
