I'm doing good, just track sounding great on the radio. Hey listen, man, thank you for coming on. It's been going back and forth with your publicist for a while now, but I'm great. I'm grateful to have you. I'm a super fan. I'll try not to fan boy you too much, but I got to ask you this. This new record, hell Fire and Damnation. The story I get on this is the title comes from a saying that you heard quite frequently in your youth. Is there truth to

that? Yeah? My father used to say, my dad here big you know it was Yeah, he used to say all the time I got into trouble, it'd be like health, fid damnation. Where we've been doing now? So instead of stuck in my head, you on. And I wanted to do a song about good and evil, you know, the fight between good and evil. So it seemed to fit really well with the song we

were writing. Dwight just mentioned to you about Arizona, so he flew out to Arizona and one of his friends recorded this audio from from that night. This is fanboy. You're on stage asking what they want to hear? Here we go, right, you want to listen two songs that what was right back and win that. Okay, stopping stop embarrassing me? In from bev Byford. Man, I'm in radio for thirty years, thirty years, I finally land the interview of my dreams with v Vifford and you embarrass me.

Man, Hey, be you know what, No, no, no, Beth Byford, I'm unapologetic. And by the way, I'm stone cold sober in that audio clip. That's how excited. That's how excited I get at the at a sack the show. And if you've ever seen Saxon come out this uh this Sunday night. But I gotta tell you, man, the energy is off the charts. When you guys take the stage and stone coats over, I'm yelling and screaming. I'm front row at the barricade there.

You guys just bring so so much energy to the stage is incredible. Yeah, we'll give it undred percent that we're not you know, so you gotta do that, you know, you gotta you gotta keep fit, you gotta go for it. If you're gonna go for it, men, as we'll go for an hundred percent. There's no point doing ninety percent. You know, we don't. We don't do the ninety percent. We do one hundred

percent. So yeah, we have good fun and try, you know, the our audience that we you know, we try to include the audience in the stage, you know, on the set list, we ask them what you want to hear. You know. It's a great fun really And by the way, that's a good point. I'm glad you brought that up. Bib Bifert from a Saxon is our guest. If you have if you've never

seen Saxon, do not miss this opportunity. I doubt they'll be back to Louisville again because I want to talk about the last time you all beat We're here in just a second. It's a hell of a show. You'll be a you become a fan instantly. But I want to talk about you say you get the fans involved. I was a one show and you picked up the set list and you said, you know it was Nashville. You picked up the set list, you're ripping in half and there's your set list and

you just did request. Is that taxing when you do something like that, does the band pissed off at you? Or is it? No? It's pretty good. I mean they're great boys. The band you know they're yeah, they're for it. Really. You know, most of the songs that most of the songs that people request, we can play. You know,

we have a we have a massive repertoire. You sometimes get some obscure track that you know we haven't played for like, you know, thirty years or something, and you know, sometimes I have to cough and say, we can't play that one. So, but not not very often. Usually usually we'll have a go at it, you know, because we're not we're a

live band. You know, there's no no click tracks, some things running, so we can pretty much do what we want really, So each concert is different for Saxon, you know, it's it's a different textperience every night. Well, I've only heard Ride Like the Win, your version of Ryde Like the Wind one time. And I've seen Saxon so many times. The wife and I we fly across the country to see you all. But I want to talk about my very first Saxon show. It was a brilliant triple

bill. Here's the bill. It's Saxon, it's Iron Maiden, and it's Fast Way. It's at Louisville Gardens in nineteen eighty three. And then Saxon missed the stage and you play this song. Dave hit this song real quick, Beth. I hear this song and I'm staring at the stage and I'm saying, who the hell are these guys. The very next day, the

very next day, I cut school. I go to Phoenix Records on Dixie Highway and I purchased The Power and the Glory, And the very next day, Dan and Leather, I've been fan since nineteen eighty three, just from that very first performance. Yeah, do you remember the show, because here's here's there's no way you're gonna remember this. But some for some whatever reason, Saxon comes out when Iron Maiden is on the stage and there's a pie fight. Does that ring a bell at all? Oh? Yeah, it

was the last show. It was the last show the tour, and yeah, we were just doing stupid things to each other. I think Maiden came out on our show, and I think they all dressed like Adol Fitler. Yes, yeah, it was, you know, pretty much last day of the tour, goofing around. Really, it's good for I think. I think I it's Adrian Smith on the face with a with a peek on pie. Our guests Our guest is beff Byford. If you've never seen Saxon,

I'm pleading with you go see this band Sunday night. You won't regret. It's a great double bill Saxon with your Raya Heap Mercury ball Room this Sunday. But Sacks but Beth, I'd be remissed. And these are extremely late, but sincere condolences. I wanted to say I'm sorry for your loss of your dear friend Lemmy from Motorhead, because there was so many great tours with saxs and and Motorhead. So I wanted to say I'm sorry because I know

you and Limmy you were close, very personally close. Yeah, we're very close, good mates and uh you know we used to hang out together quite a bit and uh you know you sang on a few of our songs and you know, it was it was it was a you know, it was a rock rock and rock etgend Lemmy, and you know, everybody that knew him sort of liked him. It was a nice guy. You know, he got this image of like, you know, the hell raising rebel, you know, but actually it was a pretty well read, uh you know,

really interesting guy. Really to talk to and a lot of the similarities between I think at least there's similarities between Ween, Motorhead and Sacks and plenty of similarities. But one of them I think is you get history lessons out of songs. I mean, you know, Dallas one PM with you guys, and Lemmy was a Motorhead. I mean, Lemmy was a history buff. But a lot of your songs are historical tunes, right, Yeah, yeah, I mean let me we're always you know, we're into history and

we you know, we talked about history quite a lot. It was, it was really into it. So yeah, I mean we're storytellers and that's what we you know, that's what he used to do. I mean, actually, when when motor Read sort of stopped, we especially in Europe, and we sort of a lot of Motorate fans came to Saxon because you know, we spent a lot of time together and toured together, and some of our music's quite similar. You know, it's very energetic, fast, you

know, it's early early thlash metal style. So you know, the fans between sax and Motorate are quite close. Did Motorheads start thrash rock, because in my opinion, they did songs like twenty thousand feet and stuff like that. I know it's hard, go ahead, Yeah, I think I think we pumped me between Lemmy Made and Saxon, you know, motor Hits made in Saxon. I think, you know, we were playing really fast stuff

as well as melodic stuff as well. It was a mixture of you know, like heavy metal, Plumber, twenty thousand feet, Motorcycle Man, they're all frantic, fast songs, you know, and you know, the most did the same sort of thing. So yeah, I think you know, guys in metallic, you know, and pant and bands, they were listening to what was happening in the eighthes, and you know they wanted some of it really so they you know, they created their own, you know,

flash metal movement here in the States. Well, I want to listen this new record I've got to talk about because and you guys keep on putting out great projects. Man, you had Thunderbolt, you had a Battering Ram, all great records. But I love this new record. It's it's it's a little dark, really heavy, but there's a song on there. One of my favorite cuts is Madame Guillotine. Guillotine. Uh, what's the story behind Madam guillotine. Well it's it's this thing they bought built in France only maybe

I were in America well back in the day. You know, this machine they brought in to cut your head off, and uh, I mean the French sort of loved it, you know, and it got to be a little bit of a day out, you know, going to you know, get some beers and some wine and some bread and cheese and go and watch these you know, aristocrats have their heads got off all day, so you know. And the most famous one was the Queen of France who and Marie

Antoinette, so you know. But I sing the song from the point of view of the guillotine, you know, the guillotines like got no remorse, no regrets, so you know. So it's it's a cool song. And you know it's a little bit like a bit like an Alice Cooper song. I think it's a bit you know, and please don't lose your head and double on taundre and there, you know. But it's a big it's a big favorite live, you know, I can't wait, okayt waits a big

favorite, you know, and listen. So Paul Quinn leaves the band, and I hope there's no bad blood there. But Brian, he steps up and I think he's doing an incredible job. I haven't seen this tour yet, but I've seen video of it and it seems like he's crushing it. And by the way, happy birthday to Brian. Uh. Yeah, we had a big party last night. I saw that over today. We were on the Jamaican Room last night, so all of it partied out this morning.

I was first up actually, so you know, they were all still partying. I went to bed. I was like, forget it, I'm going to bed. I've got introduced to you tomorrow. And they were still partying. So yeah, he's done a great job Ran, you know, and you know, people know him from from diamond Head. You know, he wrote the big you know am I Evil track Metallica covered, so you know, the few There's a lot of history there, so yeah, you're doing a great job. And he wrote, you know, he co wrote

some songs with us for this new album. See, he brought a bit of a heavier style to the band. I think as well, listen, don't miss this show. It's Saxon. Well, hang on, Dave, pull the music down again. Real quick, and Beff, I hate to ask you to do this live, but could you give us one. It's Bef Byfort from Saxon and you're listening to Tony and Dwight. Yeah, I can do that for you. Go ahead. lot. Yeah, hey, listen. I bought the VIP experience, so I will see you backstage, and I highly recommend if you're going to the show, if there's any left, get the VIP experience. You won't regret it.
