Memorial Day was actually referred to as:  "Decoration Day" before being declared Memorial Day.  Decoration as on account it began as a day to honor the dead soldiers by strewing beautiful spring flowers on their graves.

There is a rich history on this tradition.  It really stems back to 1864, then will founded in 1866-1868, and so on.

Bottom line is:  Memorial Day is not Veterans Day, nor is it Armed Forces Day.  This is a day set aside to honor those Veterans who are deceased.

Oh,....and FYI I failed to mention.  The Doc never asked to see my CPAP Machine.
