what's up guys welcome to the first episode of calm thirsty the universe kind of worked its way out to make this happen i am here with jade hasune did i get it right you did yes is this the first app for real yeah because i'm doing a pride series and it was supposed to start yesterday but we had to reschedule and then you missed a train i did and then now you're here yes
how's it going so good thanks for both nice to meet you well nice to meet you yeah this is the power of the internet you can meet strangers on the internet and then you go to their homes and like Grindr you mean yeah it's kind of like Grindr but this is more so This is Maverick. Say hi, Maverick. He has just adopted me. You would think that Maverick is Jade's dog based on the way he's nestling. When I opened the door, he just like... Ran to you.
Right. So you're hot off the heels of the Inside Out Film Festival, which is a queer film festival here in Toronto. And you were in a film called We Forgot to Break Up. Correct. Tell me about this. Okay, it's based on a book. Okay. About a band. Okay. In the 90s, late 90s, early 2000s. Okay. Who... become famous. They're from a small town, Ontario. Okay. And then they move to Toronto and they make music. But yeah, it's really good actually. Lead is a trans man.
Very talented artist. And the story is really queer. It's really cool. I'm not in the band. I play the manager who signs them and makes them famous. Oh, fun. Cool. And that was like a great experience for you. Yeah, it was so much fun. Awesome. Filmed in North Bay. Ontario. It's kind of sad. Yeah, North Bay is very sad and scary. It was cold. Very cold, yeah. It was cool, though.
um so obviously it's pride month and i just want to talk to like all my guests about like what pride means to them we kind of sidebar about this a little bit earlier and i was saying that this pride especially this year i don't know it's like taking on a different meaning for me i like what you're saying
Yeah. So like I was saying that like more so than previous years, you know, where it's like you can't say gay in Florida. They're banning drag shows. Where can't you say gay? In Florida. Like where? In schools. Like when you speak to humans or when you're on a screen or what's the... In the educational standpoint, you can't say gay. So what are they saying? I don't know what they're saying, but they're not saying gay.
So like basically all same sex education has been taken out. Um, in South Florida, it's illegal to do drag shows. It's just like a scary place. I went to, university in south florida so to see it affect kind of like somewhere that i was and like that's where i like i came out i found like myself at like the queer spaces there like to know that that's now
I don't know, not what it was. It's so interesting. It's scary. It's in some places, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah. If I go back to my time in school, there was no gay ever. So it's interesting to see how... Let's come back to that in a way. Yeah, full circle. Yeah. But don't you wish that we had those resources, like, when we were gay? Yeah, 100%. For me, it was, like, watching Buffy and, like, you know the Spice Girls videos. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Watching Buttons.
yeah music video like 500 million times oh my god the pussycat dolls what they could have been if they got back together but like sorry to go really like surface but yeah um i agree i feel like pride should be a moment of embodying your empowerment your self-empowerment that should be every single day yeah you should wear your crop top every day going everywhere not just
on pride you know yeah if that's what you want to wear yeah so that's what i think about it you think that you should just be fighting for pride every day not fighting for but showing your pride being proud that you are exactly how you are and that is a perfect creation of divinity if that's what people fight about yeah so yeah so i'm also very fascinated about this concept of like the party's over of like you're somebody that has seen like
a lot of success and like with success obviously has highs but they also have lows and everyone talks about the highs everyone talks about how was it how was it no one really talks about the lows of like where you have to have a conversation with yourself um and i'm fascinated by that because i just had this whole like how you talk to yourself is very important so i'm very curious about just like different queer creatives like what is a moment that you had to have a self-conversation
and like what did you say to yourself wow i love this this is what i do every single minute of every day is like how do i refocus my mind in a way that like I can still believe in my dream. When I look around and I see that world that you're talking about, the world where you can't say gay. Just like, why is it... Why is it...
Why is the world this way anyway to begin with, right? So every day we have to like... Because we all feel this dream that we have about being who we are and succeeding as who we are purely. And... In order for it to take form in the physical, you need to constantly navigate towards that dream. It changes every day.
If you observe what's around you, it'll just always take you further away from it. So it's like, how do you always resource to like that vision that is intangible, that has no like proof? Yeah. you embody it and then it has proof because you're it yeah no i get it and it's almost like you're saying it's a daily practice where people say meditate work out every day watch what you eat yours is like get on your gps and navigate yeah because why meditate
Right. Because that's where we have to continue. It's like, okay, meditation is good, but why though? I got you. Okay, because when you do that, all the mind stuff that like you're trying to... figure out whatever it goes away and then you reconnect to your natural state which is like this incredibly intelligent being right that isn't mind necessarily it's like it's
connected to the to the all this is how i think by the way yeah no fair no i'm eating it up i love it i love it and uh it's interesting i love that we're like talking about being gay and pride and all these issues and all that stuff because like being gay
shouldn't be like a limited mind or an unlimited consciousness and sometimes it is because it's like okay i'm gay now so like let me take the straight mask off and put the gay mask on and it's like that's not the point yeah it's like be yourself What's your self, your true self, this, like, enormous being? Right. So, because we're, like, both physical and waveform at the same time. So, like, so connecting your physical self.
by relaxing and letting your nervous system chill out and then natural connection to like this this is a perfect example of what i mean like they're connected to this like well-being stream all the time and they don't care about stuff yeah yeah and so that's what we got to do that's what meditation does it connects you to that broader self that
that knows where your dream is so it leads you through through intuition to like go there and get this is how drag race happened for me drag race was like top of my list accomplishments of my career And I projected that so far in the future. And it came into my life at a moment that was so way sooner than I thought. But also, I could have never, ever... put that together right okay so wait i'm very fascinated by this so walk me through it so you always wanted to be
a judge on drag i said it to friends i said it to people you spoke it out you were like i need to be a judge on years and years but that started with me being like super depressed like in new york city binge watching drag race like
12, 13 years ago. Right. It wasn't even in Canada yet. It wasn't even so interesting. Yeah, it was like a long time ago. And I'm so not in the... in the gay scene in that way right let's say now i'm starting to be but like as an artist but kind of happened in a delayed way because because before drag race it was like when i tried to be part of like gay things like media or whatever
i would get the response of like not being gay enough kind of almost yeah so weird i was like okay so being gay is not enough so i have to like do something about being gay in the media for the media to like want to do coverage of me doing stuff so just me accomplishing things isn't enough yeah that i'm gay it's tough it has to be like but anyways so so drag race was like the opposite it was just universe
Bringing me my dream in the most perfect way that I could never have imagined. And the crazy part is that in the shower that morning that I got the email. It, like, clicked for me. Like, oh, shit. Canada's Drag Race. I didn't even know it was an actual Drag Race. Really? That it was RuPaul's Drag Race. That's wild. I thought it was, like, a Canadian version. Like a spin-off type. Yeah, because there was no franchises yet.
that were out yeah and then you went on set you killed it you crushed it i cried i like lived my best dream it felt like i was like high on mushrooms or something right right right the set is like exactly what you see there's no you're in it like there's no backstage like it's a room that's closed even me looking at the judges is like a closed off
yeah so all the producers and the people are outside that that whole yeah main stage place and sorry i'm going all no no this is what it's about like i wanted it to be more conversational and like really
I don't know, hearing about these moments of, like, you literally are saying every day you talk to yourself and you're like, this is where we're going. Yes. And you've seen it pay off in terms of, like, being a gestational driver. Yeah, and I just want to say, by the way, like, every day I doubt.
The dream. So every day I have to find a way to get back to the... It's for real. It's for sure. It's happening. Like, so even in the moments where it seems like it's not happening. Right. What are your three zodiac signs? Oh, I... I'm Aquarius. Aquarius. I can't really know what the other ones are. Because you don't know the time that you were born. Fair enough.
No, you're vibrating at a frequency that I dig. It truly is. The self-talk for me was a big moment of like, oh, dude, if you're talking to yourself this way, how the fuck do you think? Yeah. positive things are going to happen how do you think the best if i'm chasing the best version of myself and it'd be talking to myself the best way possible yeah um that is I'm starting to discover more and more now because I'm really like...
I don't know. I'm listening to these podcasts. Oh, we're on a podcast right now. That's so cool. I'm listening to these podcasts that talk about that, about like the self-talk and how important that is for your brain also. It's so true. There's a hack.
there's a okay mel robbins everybody like mel robbins podcast like the best thing i've ever ever found in my life but anyway she has um because she's really good at making these concepts like super easy and backing them up with research and just like you know, like manifestation, but like, here's the Harvard research to prove it, you know, but super easy stuff. Like example, every morning talking about this self-talk, if you high five yourself, no words. So you bypass the word and the thoughts.
and you high five your own reflection okay that boosts everything that we're talking about interest so that's like a quick way to do it yeah and it's a physical like high five is like such a happy yeah think about a little cute kid that you high five and how they just go like yeah and they just feel this like love and encouragement
and that's what you want to do for yourself right if you want it to yeah and if you attach it to another habit that you do without thinking like brushing your teeth right every time you're done high five yeah it'll just become a habit yeah wow That's actually very profound. I love that. Okay, now I'm going to test your brain in another way. Okay. With thirst trivia. I'm going to ask you five pride trivia questions. That's what she told me. I was so scared.
I know, but it's supposed to be fun because I think like, I mean, I didn't know three of these answers, so I'm just going to confess that. Okay. But the first one is the Stonewall riots took place in June of what year? Oh no. I'll give you options. 1960, 1969, 1980, 1989.
I have no excuse, because I had friends who were in the Stonewall movie, and then, like, I went to Roland Emmerich's house and everything. Oh, my God. Well, at least you're not Derek Berry, who thinks that people were killed in Stonewall. Hey, can I edit this out? Yeah, totally. I know. I don't know. We can remove everything you want. I have a feeling that it was in 89.
It was in 69. But now, how I remember it now, after I realized I didn't know myself, was like 69, gay pride. It's an easy way to remember it now. Okay. are you a taylor swift fan i mean in like a respect way but not in a i'm a taylor swift fan way so if i asked you taylor swift mentions glad in which of her songs glad yeah Like the organization glad oh Like I know this but I've joint options Sure, okay, you need to calm down
okay ready for it okay mine um or we are not getting back what is it we're never ever getting back together yeah honestly if if you need to calm down is the answer it's too like cliche is it that yeah oh my god okay okay what country currently holds a record for the biggest pride parade ever
It's in South America. Is it Brazil? Yeah, I didn't know that. Makes sense. Really? What's your background? Lebanese. Lebanese, interesting. I did not think, I don't know why I thought Brazil was a scary place. to go as a gay person okay so this is the thing and we can maybe talk about this to me the fact that like pablo guitar is like the biggest rock star ever and is brazilian and that bad is also a thing right it's so that's like do you know what cognitive dissonance is
I want to say that I think I do, but spell it out. I feel like people are like obsessed with that since. But anyway, it's like it's two opposites to like confuse. the people and it kind of exists everywhere and that's what we were talking about in Florida you can't like it's illegal to do drag and this and that but then down the street not down the street but imagine that on that street there's like the borders there and then
And then it's the opposite. Next door is so... It's a mindfuck, really. But that's what the States is. It's like the two extremes always. But it's two extremes of the same thing. but like i don't know it's just so weird to me but at the same time i'm not surprised you see right so sorry what are we talking about we're talking about the largest pride parade ever so yeah it makes sense that it would be that but also if
If that is the case, if it is really scary and whatever, then that would make sense. Then more people would go out. Right. That's true. That is really true. Okay, what TV show featured the largest trans... cast in history um is it pose yeah i mean did you watch it i didn't watch the last i didn't watch it i i watched the first it's a heavy show don't get me wrong oh yeah
Yeah, I don't know. I feel like I cried a lot, and it was very, like... Okay, cool. Everybody hates me because everybody tells me to watch it, and I don't. But I have this thing, and, like, my friends know I have this thing, but it's like, once everyone loves something, like, I have resistance to it. I get it, I get it. And... I also do that with like music albums, but then I end up listening to them and being obsessed. So I one day probably will watch it. Okay. So Dua Lipa.
you resisted that album i just her most recent i didn't resist it because i listened to it asap you know as soon as it came out and then i was like no i'm disappointed i was disappointed because i was like if illusion is the best song on the album i'm disappointed yeah that's where i'm at right now yeah because illusion is still my favorite song of the album okay so even though the other ones so yeah i was like and then i like wrote to like one of my producers who we like
We love Dua Lipa, but we love talking about this at the same time and whatever. By the way, my next single is a song that we were inspired by a Kylie Minogue song from the last album. Okay. Anyway, so... So we had a playlist and Duo was on the playlist and Kylie too and whatever. So he sent me this article of like a critique of the album and she like had a similar viewpoint that we had. And still...
I listen to that album like a million times a day, like every day. Really? Multiple times. Have you listened to Billy's new album? I have, because my friend made me listen to it, and I was resisting. I was like, no, I don't want to... and uh because i i love old billy like yeah me too yeah and then uh but yeah and then i heard a few songs so yeah i have heard stuff but i haven't
I haven't done it on my phone yet. You haven't done it yourself. You have to listen to it from start to finish. It's not like a listen to the song album. It's like a piece of work if that makes sense. So, I don't know. So yeah, I resisted that for a second though. Okay. What shows? More vocally resisted, but I was still like listening to it.
Fair, fair, fair. But I've done that with, like, TV shows and whatever. Sorry, go, go. No, I was going to ask you, what TV show are you not resisting? Like, you're deep in, you're watching, you're obsessed with it. Oh, um... Uh... I'm on the quest for a TV show right now. Okay. I'm watching Mr. and Mrs. Smith on Amazon Prime. What? They made a series? Yeah, so it's a series. It's quite interesting because it is a black actor and an Asian actress. Wow, cool.
So at first, not having watched, I was kind of like, I don't like, I get mad when people, like, I don't know, just are checking boxes and being like, oh, Mr. and Mrs. Smith can't be. white we have to make sure it's like a diversity play you know what i mean and then you feel that it's like inauthentic yeah and it's forced but they do a really good job of it
I don't want to ruin the show, but basically it's kind of explained like why these two people are together and why they are Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Whereas, you know, in the movie, there were like a couple. Oh, not a couple. They, they, they are, but like in a roundabout way. Cause they're partners. Exactly. Okay. So I don't know. It was just very interesting. But you're right though. Feeling that inauthenticity in terms of like casting and stuff like that.
is is the reality it is but also at the same time but something you said before over there but you didn't say is when you said about the pride thing yeah and how like it's important now to
And then you said something like, and, you know, it's important for people to know, like, with what the government is doing. And then I was like, okay. At the same time, in the same way that, like, now they're putting these diversity... characters in TV shows and stuff and it feels inauthentic it's the same thing like you know walking around the city which I adore the city and I love Toronto and I love Pride here and I love all that but at the same time
all the corporations are, like, super gay right now. I'm walking around, like, wow, like, Toronto's so advanced. Right. Like, everyone's gay everywhere. Everything's gay. Everything's gay. But I'm like, oh, no, it's Pride Month. So, like, you know. uh july 1st this huge gay corporate logo is not gay anymore right yeah they remove it you see them ripping the stickers off july 1201 literally yeah
And Pride, too. They, like, erase it real quick. Yeah. It's the same kind of vibe because they need to... I mean, they're doing it because... everyone's realizing like oh shit maybe I'm kind of like gay I feel like everyone's realizing like I'm kind of gay or like I'm pan honestly I love pansexual
concept and like that it's like spoken about i was watching the thing yesterday and i was like obsessed with how they were talking about it and at the same time i was like but doesn't that mean you're just like a sexual being period or or not um i don't know why i said that but i i i think it's cool that everyone's like relating to that like
other well that it's just the outside the box basically right right right like things that were taboo to talk about or think about like people are now talking about yeah and now and we add them to the flag fair enough right and like it but i find that beautiful and um at the same time it comes back to what pride is that's what it is accepting just who you are as this like unique human
like dna or like imprint i don't know how to say because we're all these different right beings it's like yeah it's like your fingerprint no one can take it away from you it's distinctly yours and when you express it at the fullest this is how humanity becomes this like beautiful thing because that's why we're here to be that unique like like you said frequency before but like this harmonious
thing because if everybody's aligned to who they actually are then it's harmony then we're just like moving it's harmony yeah then because we're all part of it you know right no it's true um Fuck. I wish that more people had kind of your insight and like thoughts because it's like, it's very foreign to a lot of people. You know what I mean? Yeah. To be like one, just being yourself to.
understanding who yourself is to be. You know what I mean? Because I don't know, depending on how you were brought up, where you were brought up, how you're talking to yourself, these three things that we've kind of talked about. There's a reason why, and I want to maybe say that someone was listening because it's so cool that...
First of all, that people are watching us and that we look like this and that we're talking about this. And that we're here freer than a lot of people. But I just want to tell them, like, if they're in a place that's so... um where you're scared to be who you are right because there's consequences like there's a reason why you're in that area as that unique self there's a reason why you're there
you know it's it's not that you're like less fortunate or anything like that it's like you were brought to that place on a huge like cosmic level you decided to be in that place because you had this like reason for being there and uniquely who you are and that's why you're there and it might be so hard and and to see us be like in this place where it's like okay to be who we are um
just to remind you i just want to reflect back to you because i do get these messages right i wanted to and and there's this thing too that goes deep because even in our own community it's like there's this thing of like we're here and so we have to feel bad that we're here and others are there and living something else and so we have to fight or like and it's this weird vibe but
it's not it doesn't need to be that way it doesn't need to be like a misaligned way like yes we're here and yes we're fortunate right but we don't have to like reduce our light it's not gonna help anyone right and the people who are in those harder places they're even more courageous than we would ever be 100 and so that's why they're there yeah and so expressing who they are is important of course in safety and in like right
you know peace yeah that's the whole point yeah and our job is to flash as flashy as we can because we have a we can right so yeah so again going to pride and celebrating is important right Go out there. And to just, like, fucking be it. And then bringing that to your day-to-day life every single day, every single place. I like that you said that. It's, like, really a conditioning of a muscle that you do every day. Yeah, because, like, you know, my own mom tells me things sometimes.
you know and it's even in me my own mind tells me things when i'm wearing certain things or when i'm like looking a certain way yeah yeah and uh yeah anyway i love this combo All right. No, I mean, I love it. And like you said, it's like there's voices out there that just need a little kick or a push. And this might be that kick or push for them to go out there and do what they need to do to like, I don't know. In their own way. In their own way.
Alright, we're going to play a game called Name Em. It's about the people in your life, artists, just whoever. But like, do you have a role model? Like every answer is Lady Gaga. Imagine Gaga. Every answer is Gaga. Put your hands up. Sorry. Role model. Role model. Johnny Depp? Okay. Interesting. Reality TV icon. I mean... Alaska? Okay. I love Alaska. Nymphia Wind. You gotta pick one. I don't know. All the drag queens to ever...
Do you have Drag Race? Okay. No, no. Selling Sunset. Christine. Christine from Selling Sunset. Okay. Yeah. Chrishell? I don't know if I could say that, but... I don't know if she triggers something in me, but I do love those women. I love these women. Yeah, but I don't watch Housewives. You don't watch Housewives? This is from Housewives. No, this is from Real Housewives. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Um, okay. Who is your end all be all artist? Like it's all you're going to listen to. Oh my God. Oh my gosh. It's hard. I mean, Gaga could be all the answers that I just said. Truly, yeah. Very, very true. So it could be her, but at the same time, you know, I had my Gaga moment like a few weeks ago where I only listened to her. But I would say Lana or... It's hard. Can I get three? Yeah, give me three. Gaga, Lana. Grimes. Okay.
What's your favorite Lana Del Rey song? Oh, my God. It's Blue Jeans, in a way. Okay. But... That's like my karaoke song. Okay, fair enough. But the... Oh, it's hard. It's hard. Okay, well... Sorry. No, you're fine. Ultraviolence. No, um... Pretty When You Cry. Pretty When I Cry. White Mustang. But that's not even her song, is it? White Mustang. I think it's a guy's song. A dude's song. I don't know that song at all.
No. White Mustang? Yeah. It's okay. It's okay. Well, you get good news. Who are you calling? Charlie XCX. Who? Who do I call my brother? Okay. Older or younger? Older. Okay. Who's your fashion icon? so much is happening in my head um i wish i had one You don't have one. No, I'm more like I'm friends with people who are obsessed with fashion and I love my friends for it. And so they tell me things. But Gaga could also be this answer. That's true. Always back to Gaga. Queer icon.
Yeah. Gaga. But it's so weird because she's so not, but we made her that. Right, right, right. That's true. All gays make all pop stars. That's what I say, too. Like, you gotta find your way into the gays. Yes, exactly. Your Instagram crush. currently oh my god I don't know I don't know. I... I wouldn't be able to tell you. You're like Gaga. I guess. She's been puffing back up. I...
You know, there's this Anne... Anne NYC or something like that? Is that what her name is? I don't know. She does these, like... Let's remove my makeup. And it's, like, all these, like, amazing sounds. And it's, like, you're playing a video game. ASMR. And you're, like, removing her stuff. Okay. And she's just gorgeous. And, like, she's my crush. Okay. Yeah. All right. To wrap this out, we're going to do the Thirst 3. Okay. What reality TV show do you want to be on? Oh my god. The ultimatum.
queer love okay fair enough imagine no no no i don't have a relationship um love is blind okay no i can't how can i be on these no no i'd love to be on um On Survivor. Oh, I love Survivor. Yeah. That's a good pick. Big Brother, maybe more. Okay. It's more like... I want to do Survivor really badly. Yeah. What's a quote you live by? Wow. Oh, my God. Dreams come true. That's actually the truth of reality. Yeah, fair enough. And then the last one is what current song do you have on repeat?
I have... I have the Dua Lipa album on repeat. Actually, the one I didn't like. But the current song you all should have on repeat is your new single. It's my new single, Les Tombe. yeah let's tomber means like forget it basically forget it yeah i wrote about my ex well yeah it just came out it's starting to be on the radio like in uh in that's in france and in belgium cool yeah
And it's going to be here in Canada, too, at some point. But it's on the streaming platforms. Yeah, stream it. And then where can everybody get into your world? Where can they follow you? You can follow me at jadehasune.com. I don't even know what people see. Thank you.

You have some very profound thoughts. Thanks. Which I like. Usually it's like we end up talking about Drag Race. I know, but I mean, I do talk about Drag Race. But that's kind of how I got on Drag Race because I was talking about Drag Race on ET Canada Pride.
Shut up. Yeah. With Dallas. Yes. And that's actually how Evie and Brooklyn, because they were on the show the week before and Evie was going to be on the show the week after. And that's how they saw me and that's how it all happened. That's crazy. That's the universe, though.
