Welcome to this watch life. Hi, I'm Lydia Winters and. I'm Boo Boo. I'm very happy because OK I said the other day that I got a first confirmation from a firefighter about dumpster fires saying like oh today was a dumpster fire and then it happened. I got another message. Second firefighter can confirm this is El Loco Bombero on Instagram. I'm so excited.
A double like a a double confirmation about today was a total dumpster fire so. I think in the first episode what you had said was, wouldn't it be funny if you were a firefighter? Oh no, 'cause you were talking about the actual firefighters that you had to flag down. And you're like, it'd be funny if when they went home they were like, today was a literal dumpster fire. Turns out they probably did since you now have two firefighters. Real firefighters confirmed.
Confirmed that firefighters listened to this podcast so thank you for your service that. Is also super super cool. And especially for your service of confirming. Especially for taking out all those dumpster fires. Oh, OK. So another thing, GPHD, we talked about the different awards, the different watches
that were nominated. One thing we kind of glossed over quickly is you said the Lorca, That Lorca, which I've been very interested in, their model number one GMT actually has a model number 2 chronograph. So I've looked everywhere. This is not yet released from their side, but as I mentioned, it can be any any watch that will be released up until like I think it's October 23rd of this
year before the voting begins. So I found the page with all the awesome information about the Lorca model too and it is awesome. And it's not on their website yet like they. Have not on Lorca as well, you know it hasn't actually launched yet but my assumption obviously based on the rules of the GP, so the. Rules that it. Will launch it. Needs the. It doesn't need to ship during that time, no it. Needs to launch. I think is how it is. What? Does launch mean I don't announced up for sale?
Maybe maybe up for sale. OK, so that might be what's happening with that other sapphire watch is that it hasn't launched yet, but it will OK, so this one it is it says a taupe sunburst style, which to me it looks black, but then when you kind of see it like when you look to the. Side dark grey dark. Grey, but I guess probably in in person it looks a little more taupe since. Since they said taupe. Warm silver sub dials. It is a chronograph, A manual, winding, mechanical chronograph.
Yes. It is beautiful. It is. It's. Thick and wait a second. 37 millimeters. Such a good sized white chronograph. Yeah, it is thick, but it but it but I think the dimensions will be pretty nice. Including that 24 hundred 524. OK, never mind, Black brain doesn't. The price, including tax in Swiss francs is 2400 and. 50 oh, oh wait, also we're saying all of this speculation about when it launches, it literally says here in October 2024.
Right. No, when I saw that, because you said it has to launch by October 23rd and I they listed it as launch date October 2024. I'm like, they're giving themselves as much time as possible. Exactly. It's like, hey, let's get this out right at the end, but super, super cool. I highly recommend you go look at it. I'm very excited. I want to see this one in person for sure. You can see it on the wall GPHG website. I will link to it in the
description. Yes, so Next up, I realized that a while ago I talked about like some stories and can that I was going to tell about like hanging out with watch people or meeting, you know, just like watch stories because of my main pick up line being I like your watch, and then I just kind of
forgot about that. So I have a really good one which is. Here's what's funny before you start with this story, we had a discussion before we started recording about whether or not you've told this story on the podcast and I think the problem with a daily podcast I. Haven't. Is that sometimes it's hard to remember what we have said. It's not that simple to just try to look it up. It's been 100 and well, today is 150 episodes, so hopefully this is a new story.
Yeah, that's true. And we'll find out. Boo takes a lot better notes, so then I just search for his stories. But me, I just say whatever comes to my, my brain and then it's out in the world and not anywhere on paper. So it makes it much harder to search. But I guess if you, if you did hear this story, just think of me as like your friend who kind of repeats the same story a few times and you're like, well, OK, whatever. Not tons of times. OK. Once or twice. OK. OK.
You may continue. OK, so when I was in Cannes, I went to the Cartier boutique. It was a lovely experience and I was able to try on. Now I'm thinking I did tell this story. Here's the thing. So I know you told part of this story, but I don't think you went all the way and got the Cartier by the full Which. I think I did talk about and there was a guy there who was he had on the Cartier Mousse in black and he had a tattoo sleeve. He looked so cool.
I think I mentioned this part of the story, but the second part is that I said like, wow, you look amazing in in that watch. And so then he just started, we started talking a bit. He was there for the same show that I was there for and another guy, he was there with two friends. They came over, we all start talking. We're talking about the watches. Oh, we want to there they were saying they want to get their friend at Cartier. We're just like blah blah blah, watches, watches, watches.
And this is in the Cartier Boutique. This is in the Cartier Boutique. We were like a very loud gang people. It was quite fun. And then the cool thing is one of the guys, you know, I just said, yeah, I'm, I'm in from Sweden. And he's like, so am I from Stockholm? My sister works in a boutique in Stockholm, in Neiman Sur. And like, I know his sister from Neiman's and so he called her in the store. Yeah, Neiman's is our AD.
When I got back to Stockholm and saw her, she was like, I couldn't figure out what was wrong that my brother was calling me. He never calls me, which that's the funniest part is like, and she's like then all of a sudden he's like, Lydia's here with me. And so it just, I guess it really made me remember I just love how watches make the world
smaller in a really good way. You know, whether it's talking to someone about a brand that you both like or just, you know, like having this common interest. Yeah. It's just super fun. I yeah, I just love watches. I I thought that story was hilarious because of course you'd be in a Cartier boutique. You meet these cool dudes and it just so happens that they're one of them is related to one of the people that we see on a regular basis at our AD because she. Works there.
It just made me think again, you know, and this has happened to me so many times. It's just like by talking to people about watches, I've formed so many new connections, whether we quickly follow each other on Instagram or like have just a nice chat and it makes everyone happy or like this. It's actually, wait, we, we live in the same place. Like he also lives in Stockholm, we would have been in the same store, living in the same city and knowing the same person
being his sister. But if I hadn't started chatting with his friend, like that never would have happened. So it just makes me remember when occasionally, I've said this before, you get those like boring Bros who don't care when I say something about their watch. That's fine. But in this case, it, yeah, it's just so worth it. It's so worth it. Yeah, I, I mean, I always feel burned if I try to talk to someone and it turns out they're just like what? Like just totally not interested.
And here's the thing, people don't have to be. No, no, no, of course. Not people are allowed to wear a watch and not care about the details about the watch and not be a part of the community. They it's totally fine, but it's a little bit of a bummer when it happens because you're like, oh, this is going to be fun. And then you're like, that was not fun. Yeah, you're like but but but. Speaking of no. Fun, though, it's always worth
it speaking. Yeah. Actually, yeah, we do have something not fun to talk about, which is that we have been getting some troubling reviews and we wanted to just, like, quickly address them. It turns out that lots of kids don't like our podcast. Who knew that it would be the kids that would be the harshest judge of our, our podcast? That what, who are these kids? Well, I do know who these kids are and I, I am I. I have to say I can only be disappointed in their parents.
Yeah, look, here's The thing is that it's not just like one child we have No. OK, OK, OK. Here. I'll do the first one. So our friend's daughter when and she is right now maybe seven or eight, I think. Something like that. A little older, but yeah. 8910 something like that. Woo doesn't know kids age. Anyway, so when she was with him while he was listening to one of our episodes and then he sent this message to me. Sorry to say, but she was not into your watch podcast last night.
I was playing the episode about talking to people about watches in the living room. And she was like, tell them to stop talking about talking about talking about watches. I said I would send you a video message of her saying it. But then she chickened out. Ha ha ha. OK, first of all, that is and I it's a very accurate review talking about. Talking about talking about watches. Which we also did today, which is what brought up this this reminder of these troubling bad
reviews. From children. Well my nephews, when my sister tries to listen to us in the car, they only want to hear the intro music over and over. Once we start talking, they're like turn it. On no, no, no no, wait, they play. The intro they. Don't listen to the Bye Bye song. Interesting. Well, they don't want to have to go all the way. To the end for the Bye Bye song. I mean it is all the way at the
end. OK so then our other friend, her daughter, so our friend had her phone pulled up she was just about to listen to our podcast and her daughter saw our faces and she said are they going to talk again? Do they talk everyday? And the answer is yes. Yes, it turns out we talk every single day. I just love that her daughter had a visceral reaction to our faces on her momma's phone. Like make. It's like, Oh no. I know what this means. It's time for boredom here. OK.
You know, we talked to a lot of people about about having a podcast. I mean, it's just the kind of thing that comes up, right. And that if I say to someone, especially if they're not into watches, Oh yeah, I have a daily watch podcast and I'm like, oh, you know, but not, not Saturday and Sunday. And they're like, how could you talk about watches every day? And, but like, what I always say is, what's your favorite hobby? You know, like what?
And, and could you, do you think you could talk about that for 15 to 20 minutes every day? And almost always they they they say yes to. Today I was speaking to a woman who makes axes. Of course you are, Julia. Kalthoff, she is based in Stockholm making axes. She hand carves each handle. And I told her about our watch podcast and she asked that question and I'm like, I think you could talk about axes everyday. And she's like, oh, I definitely could.
So like, people do get it, but I think for kids it's a little different. But could someone talk about talking about talking about watching? OK, speaking about that, I am going to be or I was well, OK, talking about talking to people about watches. I will be on the Form and function podcast. I will be on it tomorrow when this this episode comes out. It'll be tomorrow from this episode anyway. July 27th, Saturday, July 27th, we recorded it in the past.
It comes out in the future. Ken of Arkin watches. Hopefully you've heard of Arkin watches. Really awesome. I'm supposed to soon get a hands on with his Alterum at some point. Very excited about that. And then James, who's at Geritol on Instagram, they have a podcast with another friend about watches, gear and EDC. It's called the Foreman function podcast. They started not long before we started our podcast, but they were smart and didn't do it.
So they're only at like 40 something episodes when we're at 150 somehow. So we talked for like 2 1/2 hours, but we only recorded like an hour plus of that. So I don't know how long the podcast will be. Usually their podcasts are about an hour. I don't remember what we talked about on the podcast versus what we chatted about off mic, but like we covered a lot of subjects, mostly gear and watches related.
Watches are still their main thing for their podcast, but they were super amazing to record with is if anyone like just needs extra me, you know, Oh. Extra. If you're like how do I hear VU more in my life, then definitely go listen to this episode of Drops Tomorrow, but also check out the Form and Function podcast. Well, Speaking of maybe wanting to hear more from you, we are going to take a week break next week. We have hit 150 episodes.
It's super fun, we love it. We will continue on Monday, August 5th. But with me being in the US and really wanting to focus on my family while I'm still working from here, it's gone a little too overwhelming for me this time around and so. It's been rough for you this week, so next week you have a lot going on. It makes sense for us to just take a nice week off. Yeah. Give you all a break.
Yeah, And also when I told my sister this was like, Vu and I are going to take a break for a week and she's like, oh, I'm so happy because I need to catch up from summer vacation. She's like, thank you. This is really bothering me that I'm far behind. Like she's been very stressed over it. So she immediately was like, oh, this is a great idea. Not for the sake of me getting some rest, but for the sake of her like. Completion. Spirit which? Which? I respect that.
I respect that. Here's the thing, this podcast has been incredibly rewarding. It gets us up early, it gets us talking about something that we already love to talk about. And I just have a blast. I think it's been, this has been a difficult year in other things, but this podcast has been a constant and it just, it just, there's something about it that has just made this year so much more fun, more enjoyable, more easy. It's connected us with more people. It's gotten us mostly good
reviews except for the kids. The children. And so, you know, we're going to keep this going for a long time. We're taking a week off. Just a week, yes. And then? So like I. Said we'll be back Monday, August 5th. And I just want to say a huge thank you because I mean, listening to us talking about talking about talking about watches for 150 episodes, it's kind of mind blowing for my 100 club members. Cards are still in the making.
They're they're in process, but they are going to come out. They will come out before the 200th episode, I promise. Look, look, we're doing what we can here. This is loosey goosey time. Thank you for all of your support, love your messages. It it really means the world to us and we can't wait to be back very, very soon. Yes, bringing watches and joy to your everyday. But not children. But not to the children. OK, you're going to try to synchronize with me on this.
Bye, bye bye bye bye bye bye, bye, bye bye it's. Not possible. You can't do it. You can't do it. Bye everyone. See you in a week.
