Welcome to this Watch LIVE. Hi, I'm Lydia Winters. And I'm Boo booey. And OK, yesterday I talked about this, you know, things that bother me, which is my favorite pastime. Yes. But there's one thing I realized I didn't really say OK, and that's that I love Rolex and Grand Seco. Oh. OK. So in all of that, talking about that, that phrase that I see out there, like I'm not saying a Grand Seco isn't amazing, but I'm also not saying Rolex isn't amazing.
So this is what kept you up last night, Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Like this really bothered. Me. Like that, I was like, you know what I never said? I never said that they're both awesome. So like making the whole statement just silly anyway. No. Oh, OK, that's why the statement is silly. Well. OK, it's silly for about 10 different reasons, but I feel like I needed to defend even though regular listeners are. Reasons is so specific.
Regular listeners of this podcast know that I love both Grand Seiko and Rolex. Yes. And they own both, yes. So I I didn't take it that way. All right, Jay David, 573 asks. I'm going to wind up watch Fair in Chicago next month. Jealous. Yeah, me too. I have a $2000 budget. Should I buy 3 nice watches or one really nice watch? It's. An old question. I was gonna say this is OK. So I think this is very complex for a number of reasons #1 is that it really depends on what
kind of collection you have. Let's say you want like you're starting your collection. Maybe you do go for three because you've you've really. 'Cause you gotta fill out those categories. Yeah, you've like followed along and watches and you're so excited and this is like your first the. I mean the cool thing about Wind Up Fair hosted by Warren and Wound is that you actually get to see so many watches that you haven't been able to see before.
Try them on. So even though I want to say like just get the one you love for $2000, I'm also like, but there will be so many of them there. Yeah, but also he didn't say that he has a dream watch for $2000. If he did, I would say absolutely, that's what you get. Oh yeah, but I just meant like, you know. Assuming there's a dream watch or. Assuming there's like one watch that you're like, OK, I really want. Yeah, you know. If there is, then you go for it.
Yeah. Because the like the filling out the categories thing. One of the great things about watch collecting is that even though we do not act like it, we really do not act like it. It's actually a long game.
Like you have your whole life to collect watches I. So you're saying one, You're saying maybe 1, not 3. I think, well, well, OK, I I will not discount what you said to start, which is it does depend on where you're at right now, what you currently own, how happy you are with that and what you think is missing. That's like, to me, that would be the approach, like what do you feel is missing right now?
And then that if you're like, Oh, well, I really want like an everyday watch that can handle a bunch of stuff, but I also need a dress watch. And I'd like, you know, like a really cool like beater watch. Like let's say that's what you were saying. Well, then clearly you need 3 watches for the $2000. Yeah. But if what you're really saying is OK, I've got a few of these categories covered already. What I want is a watch to wear daily at the office and I dress a certain way and I want to
watch. It's just going to look amazing with the way I dress. Then maybe then you put it all into that one watch. Yeah, as I think about it, even though I would tend to say go for the one watch, you know that you'll keep a long time. I also think that at the wind up fair there's like a lot of cool brands. So I could imagine like OK, I'm getting a brew watch and then I'm getting two other, you know, like there's so many fun independence. We just. Split it. You get 2 watches, not 3.
Not one get 2. This is the answer. This is the way. This is the way. Get 2 lodges. David, please report back on exactly what you decided to do with your budget. We need to know after. I'm so curious. I want to know exactly what the watches are and what he considered when he got there. Here's the other part is that. What you think about ahead of time and what you do your.
Whole plan will go out the window when you are in person looking at the watches and the best thing I could say is that unless something truly is limited, you might lose out on it right away. Like just exert that self-control and try to go and take in a lot of stuff before you commit to something. Because what you don't want to do is grab something too early and then have a little bit of regret when you've walked two rows down and seen what else there's. You're like, oh, that budget's
gone. Yeah. I mean basically OK, so David buy 2 watches. OK, I like this idea. Not one, not 3/2. So Tibirisnetator, I'm sure I nailed that. Do you have any interest in opinions about modding watches? Love the show, thank you both so much. Thank you and thank you for the question. I have so much interest in modding watches. And I have. So much opinions. Oh yeah, OK. Oh, what are your opinions about
modding watches? My opinion is that when you own the watch, do whatever you want with it. I mean. It's like a very simplistic take that I also think is a bit of a hot take. But like, if it's your watch from a Casio to a Rolex and beyond, if you love it and you want to customize it in some way, I'm what you know, think about it first. Do you have really strong opinions about this? If you want to do it, do it. That's why that's how I feel.
I completely agree, the thing that has held me back from modding watches is just committing to it. No, no, that's the part I do, I think. You should. And you should like think about it. Yeah, well, but but OK. Modding watches does not need to be expensive, nor even that exclusive. Really. Like what I'd like to do is just start with Casios and sorry, start with Seikos. Seiko has an amazing modding
community and the like. You don't have to spend huge amounts of money to get started and really make things that feel unique to you because there's not that many people or or maybe nobody who have put together the exact combination of different things that you have. And there's so many makers of custom parts for Seikos. Yeah, I mean me when you ask me this question, I'm like everyone can mod whatever they want. But then when you like vu ask me, I'm like, don't do that to
your watch. So I don't know, I'm all over. But I really do agree that if you bought it like it's yours to decide if you if the route retail value or the you know the value in it doesn't matter, then like do whatever you want. Yeah, I completely agree with that. People should just do stuff. Yeah, but I mean, I also haven't modded any of my watches, so, you know, there's not pretty.
Cool. Like I've I've always wanted to take like a semi expensive watch and hire one of those amazing engravers to do some cool case engraving. Not case back engraving but like really cool designs engraved case. I really want that. The the engraved cases are really beautiful. I do think that, you know, there can be a bit of snobbery around what customizations are okay or not again and once again.
There's snobbery. It's just is the watch yours or not do well, I guess if it's not then don't, yeah. If OK, if a watch is not yours, do not listen to Lydia. Is yours, you can do whatever you want with it. It's true. OK, Faisal and his watches asks any cool YouTube videos coming out soon, and if so, how soon? That's so pointed. Well, the how soon? I mean, are they talking about like for other content creators? Are they are they specifically talking about us?
I guarantee there are cool YouTube videos coming out soon all over YouTube. Yes. OK, so for those listeners who don't know who And I started a YouTube channel two years ago, two years ago currently it still says new video coming September 13th, 2023. Dash, seriously. I remember I was like, I'm seriously. Yeah, seriously. Which obviously is not. Yeah, OK, so two years ago, 2 plus years ago, we started a YouTube channel. Our goal was to make weekly videos because I'm all about
that regular upload schedule. Yes, you really committed to the regular upload schedule with this podcast. But anyway, back then we're a little more realistic and we thought we can make one video a week, and we did. On time. For three whole weeks and then we got really busy. And it's one of those things where it's easier to keep going when you haven't missed one. And as soon as you miss one, then you're like, well, I shouldn't start it back up until I know that I can really hit the
regular schedule. Yeah, we always do that though. We're like everything will align and then we will start. Yeah. But then we we don't start because we never feel like that. So what we've been discussing recently. Are we gonna commit to September 13th, 2024? Do not put anything seriously. No, I. Just changed. I just just cross out the three and put a four on the YouTube.
Channel so I OK what the idea is right now is that what we know is that we do not have the time or the energy to commit to weekly videos. It's just not going to happen that's not going to happen anytime soon. So what we've been thinking about though, is that we we have good ideas for videos, right? We think they're good, yeah. And so. Videos we're excited about making, whether they're good or not. Actually. That's all you need.
That's what someone else can do. There are videos that we are really excited about making. There's a couple of concepts that I've actually gone through in detail, like really figuring out exactly how to execute these videos, but it's whether or not it's worth it to just make one off every once in a while. We'll probably appreciate it, so let us know. If you will appreciate that one random.
Video because if you say no I will not appreciate your random video, then we won't make it. Oh, that's OK. Yeah, no, we're putting it on our amazing, wonderful, super intelligent listeners. OK, Yeah, we have the most intelligent listeners. No, I took a poll. Oh, you took? A poll, worldwide poll. Turns out, no, no, no. The scientists, they said, oh, OK. Oh, no. It's it's weird that the listeners of this watch life, every single one of them. Genius.
Genius. Hey, it's amazing that they're. Listening. To two dodos. But you know, it's truly wild. All right, the Ruby Hour asks Dream Color for a new OP. OK. Oh. Wait, wait, wait. Yeah. Well, I was just going to say my current OP colors, OK? I have turquoise. Yeah, coral, red, yellow and celebration. Yes, but this is about. I know a dream like a. Dream color that doesn't even exist yet, but I'm going to pick one that did exist. And you want the exact same
shade? No, OK, because I was like, that's really a boring wish. I would like in the style of the new colorful OPS, a purple one. What type so there. Was a purple back with the 39 millimeter op. It was sunburst. It was like it was a sunburst. I think it was. The color was called Grape. You want a purple. But I want a purple like more. The lacquer. Yeah, OK. I that would be what kind of purple 39 millimeter. OP did not have a quick adjust on the bracelet so you know I'm
not going to ever. Yeah, do you want like a Barney purple? What's a Barney Purple? Barney. Barney the dragon or no, wait, the dinosaur. Sorry. Yeah. Or like. I mean, I'm pretty, I'll say I'm loosey goosey on the purple. Like you're just like whatever specific. Purple a Deep a deeper. Purple. A deeper purple. OK. I would go with like an army Green, which is surprising because that's like the opposite answer. What? What? Wait, what? What do you want to change your
answer to Army Green? That's a cool that. Right. That would be so cool. I would want the dial to be matte finished though. No, I think I'd still go for the lacquer like 'cause it would look. Really like I have to make 2. Oh OK, after you copycatted me. Then you I didn't copycat. Your mind's a mat dial. OK, well to me it's because I think that I love the black OP. It's beautiful. It is the blue I think is really pretty.
But again, it's more of that sunburst, which it's not like that's not what I usually go for for O PS even though I think it again, super beautiful. Makes. It more classy but I for this I would want an army green and then it would really just stand out. So like for me the green OP is not my color of green. Which is why, since this is my dream, my dream isn't. It our dream. No, it's mine. This is my dream color. Then I'm going to go with a more army green. And matte finish.
Yeah. No, no, no. I've entered yes. I win the matte finish. Well, this was This was fun. I like being able to answer these small quick questions. Yeah, I would like to know what color OP, would you all pick if in the dream scenario where Rolex is like, hey you, what color do you want and also we will give it to you for free, Yes, you know like since we're dreaming, everybody gets. One exactly and then would we just make someone off random video about it on YouTube?
We absolutely no schedule. I don't know. Let us know. Have a great day, bye.
