Interview with Imani Lewis: Cal is a Jellybean
Imani Lewis is quick-witted, insightful, hilarious, authentic and absolutely lovely. We left this interview completely charmed by her charisma, and we think you’ll be swept away too.

O Juliette, Juliette, wherefore art thou Juliette? Deny thy mother and refuse thy name. Or if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love And I’ll no longer be a Monster Hunter. ‘Tis but thy name that is my enemy: Thou art thyself, though not a Vampire. What’s Vampire? It is not fang nor blood …nor any other part Belonging to the undead. O be some other name. What’s in a name? That which we call a peach By any other name would smell as sweet
Sarah Catherine Hook is warm, genuine, funny, thoughtful and the absolute sweetest. We love her even more after this interview and we think you will too. Listen to her tell us everything we want to know about First Kill, Juliette, and Calliette.
Cal and Jules navigate the complexity of killing a man and outing yourself as a vampire to your best friend, all on their first date… among other firsts. Meanwhile, their families are dealing with the aftermath of their most recent clash.
As Calliope and Juliette try to reckon with their deeper connection after the bite, we’re left wondering if Lilith plays a bigger part to play than we realize. The Fairmonts and the Burns are set on a collision course, and, for better or worse, Cal and Juliette are forced to choose between their hearts and their duty. Episode Discussion starts at 24:52
In typical lesbian fashion Cal and Juliette are left to face the consequences of moving too fast after their fated pantry hookup. Juliette's thirst for blood is only getting stronger and Calliope can’t hide her feelings for someone she’s sworn to hate. Smashley’s dead, Talia and Margot are feeling each other out, and we get to the bottom of the missing liver.
Juliette just wants to fall in love and Calliope just wants to fulfill her duty. First Kill is breaking the mold both in front of the camera by centering it’s ethos on the love between two teen lesbians and behind the camera as it features an incredibly diverse creative team. So have some fun with us as we recap starting at episode 1. After general reactions to the show and it’s place in the lesbian zeitgeist ep discussion starts at 18:03
Ismail gets thrust into their hell week, having conflict with almost everybody - Ismail bails on Kieu My during the waffle fundraiser, throws Zoe's relationship with Finn into the spotlight, leaves Sascha hanging and places the blame on Lou and Constantin (who, Isi should rightfully be mad at after that kiss). With all of this conflict, I'm hoping that we'll begin to see greater introspection, growth, and responsibility for Ismail. But until then, we do have one beautiful moment between Ismail a...
Things come to a head with the unholy trio creating some tension between Constantin and Ismail until a kiss with Lou answers everyone's questions about Ismail's feelings about her. One issue resolved, but Ismail is still trying to figure out who they are and how to be that person without losing those they love.
Honestly, does Ismail even know who they are? We're three weeks into Druck season 7 and still feeling really lost as to who Ismail is as a person, their desires, motivations, etc. Is this intentional? Because Ismail doesn't know who they are themselves or is the change in the writer's room playing out disastrously this season? One thing stays the same, though and it's that Kieutou, cutest couple ever, keep feeding us in their IG stories
The Sascha and Lou show? Where are are old favs, like Nora? And what about Kieutou?! This episode, I dive into S7E2 of Druck and try to decide if the change in writers has the show feeling off, or if maybe they're being a little more intentional than we're giving them credit for.
Druck is back! I am ready to collect my Kieutou crumbs and dive into the Insta Group with our new main character, Ismail. We are introduced to two new characters, Sascha and Lou, who look like they'll play an important role in Ismail's storyline. I hope this will also include addressing the bullying history with Ava. The Halloween party delivers more than I could have expected and I just have to thank Sira and Nhungi for looking out for the lesbians.
We cover some ground talking about some current lesbian shit— Jojo Siwa making a difference on DWTS; Druck is back (+ Kieutou) !!!; and the Gini obsession sweeping the nation. Plus a goodbye from one of us (for now).
This episode we’re talking about the fear street trilogy and the gay horror of it all. As usual we have differing opinions along the way, but agree on what truly matters - the love of it all.
We’re doing what we do best: talking shit about lesbian ships. In this special episode, we talk a little bit about everything instead of a whole lot about one thing. We preview The Bold Type, Betty, and more!
It’s season finale of Druck—finally! Fatou decides to take a leap with Kieu My and reaps the rewards. We discuss our many feelings about the show and saying goodbye, as well as the major themes that resonated with us throughout Fatou’s season.
In her penultimate episode, we start with Fatou at her lowest and then throughout the episode she slowly starts to pick up the pieces. She faces her dyscalculia, mends her relationship with Ava and that leaves us with only one thing left...
It’s hell week— do we need to elaborate? The Cash Queens implode, Aquarius leaves Fatou high and dry, Maike is flooding the bathroom, and Kieu My and Fatou have trouble communicating which leads to devastating blows from both.
In our recap of episodes 5 and 6 we discuss how Kieu My decides she wants make amends with Fatou but just doesn’t know how. Then the pair take a leap and universes collide. We also have it out with Fatou’s teacher.
As we recap episodes 3 and 4 of Druck we discuss the well executed build up to Kieutou’s first kiss, theorize about Kieu My’s motivation and state of mind post kiss, and sympathize with Fatou’s heartbreak.
In this ep we break down the first two episodes of Druck S6. Among other things we wonder when Kieu My first had a crush on Fatou and how Fatou is simultaneously adorable and smooth in her lesbian flirting advice.
We review one of the most iconic scenes in The Bold Type history— the yoni egg. Kat is totally hetero except she has a big gay crush on Adena. We get introduced to enemy of the pod: fucking Pinstripe.
With the final season approaching we’re rewinding and recapping season 1 of The Bold Type. We talk about what we want to see in the final season, break down the pilot, and rave about Kat and Adena’s instant chemistry.
Yes we’re also talking about THE lesbian Christmas movie! We’re both thinking about this much harder than we want to be. We talk about what we think works and what we think doesn’t in the film, but one thing we both agree on is that Kristen Stewart and Aubrey Plaza steal the show!
Part 2: We cover Jamie and Dani’s finale arc as they face the reality of Dani’s sacrifice and the lady of the lake; and we discuss what this ghost (love) story meant to us.
Part 1: We’re recapping Jamie and Dani’s story over the course of the series. Listen as we break down eps 1-6 and discuss how we connect with this show and give our thoughts on romance, grief, and Jamie’s moonflower monologue. We also give our opinion on the “bury your gays” debate.
Netflix cancelled teenage bounty hunters and we are UPSET. Sterling tries to find a new clique, Blair realizes Miles is hot, and we get an aptly timed story on the south twisting its racist history.
Sterling and April’s enemies to lovers journey starts strong with April’s conquest to dethrone Sterling from her reign as fellowship queen. Blair is making her way through 36 questions to know if he’s the one to bone. And Bowser just wants to do his job and self hydrate in peace.
We jump into the ridiculously absurd, wonderfully campy, and delightfully funny Teenage Bounty Hunters. We talk twins, the south, and Christian school as we recap episode 1!
We wrap up talking about season 1 of Betty and marvel at a season that tells stories empowering women and centers it’s heart around female friendships.
