The following is a presentation of play Fly Sports Properties in Michigan State Sports Properties. Well, how hello and good evening everybody. It's Tuesday, September fifth, twenty twenty three. You know what that means. So one year anniversary, baby, one year. This is Sparty MSU. Welcome to the only show about Spartan Dogs hosted by Spartan Dogs. This is part of MSU. I'm your host, Jason Straighthorn, along my co host the Boss Otis Wiley
and Ju Chow Chow Coulcrete. This is your first time here, we want to welcome you. If this is not your first time, As always, we thank you all the loyalistens, especially you guys have been here since day one. A year has blown by, we've haven't been having a blast, and we'd love to continue this train rolling. Let us know where you're watching from. And also, don't forget to click that like and subscribe more subs, baby, we gotta have them. We're a year in and we're getting
the moving, so let's keep the train rolling. Guys. Happy anniversary. Oh look I'll remember. Oh if that's what today is? Okay, Yeah, today is your anniversary, baby, Tony Tony Tony right, absolutely right. We would would play that, but you know we probably get you know, the YouTube guys would come down and the oldest your tunes was too good, you might get as flagged. The real thing show Tony, Tony,
Tony Man. Guys. Look, it's a celebration all the way around Michigan State is the winners in their home opener over Central Michigan thirty one to seven. Guys. It was a outstanding performance. Started off a little slow, but here we got some breakdown right here. Noah Kim eighteen to thirty one for two hundred and seventy nine yards two touchdowns. I mean, Nate Carter, look look at it. Share you sons lead the list. I wonder who put that list together? Pop a chew, you know you know who
put that list together. They're on field play just like just like I said, we talked about it. I talented those boys, and those boys came and they showed out, and they showed out like a dog show. Now, wait, I know you couldn't. I know you couldn't, because like last time you're talking about the killing bees, he was like my boys this
year they're the truth. Now listen, let's let's look like and we're gonna ask him when he comes on on the second second block here, but if the receivers would cut someone of those wide open passes that right into the bread basket, no what for the have more obviously, but we talked about kind of getting warmed up at first half field but look he oh, look, I think right there until you got when that testnow happened. It wasn't like
the leave Carlin right now. No, no, But the thing about this one here, the thing that I love about this play right here, and it just shows how ready Noah kimss for this next level here because you're in the post of interview, he said that wasn't the called play. He saw a look and check into that play. And you noticed last year there was sometimes we were like, damn, why'd you stay in there? Why didn't you check out of that place? This he checked into that play. Players
not plays, and that's what that's the results right there. Well, and then we can deep dive on like that first in the first half when we're going in and we could have easily took a nague rant in, but like, why not take a shot And obviously my tory had that in his hands to hit him right in his face, right, but like we took a shot. Like we talked about aggressiveness, we talked about a switch of just quickness of like we don't care, let's just go in air it out.
You just saw that that confidence in though. And I love that we got him at the at the quarterback spot because like that's a huge change from last year, and you know, no not to who we had last year. It's just a huge change and there's a breath of fresh air knowing that he's going out there, he's competing, putting the team on his back. Let's uh, I know we're gonna talk more about Noah, but straight let can
we can we? Straight? Can we talk about my guy? Oh man, we gotta talk about the run game baby, you know Western New York Rockcess, the garbage plate worthy. The performance of Nate Carter. This is a look at him right here. First here, Yeah, I thought he was gonna take that. That was the first place he was gone. I'm
sure he did too. We all wanted that's that would have been a K nine right first, I was thinking, absolutely incredible performance by Nate Carter and you know, shout out to you, you know, the offensive line. You know, they were getting push up front there. And uh, but what I love about Nate is his burst quick in and out of the cuts that he does. And uh, you know, I love this this two this combo here. I think Burger found the right spot from he's more of
the pass catcher out of the two Nates the runner. I would love to see mang him become that big back so when we go for it on fourth down, he can come in there and uh and really you know pick those big those yeah, you go bag him up. No, I just like how smooth like he like he's gliding when he's running, Like you saw that run where you know, of course you see him hit the sarbags like go
ahead and take it to the house. But like he running back, it's just like he's just he's just a glide dude, Like he's just stopped offensive line. Let's talk about those tight ends, man. Those tight ends was a committee of blocking. You saw guys legitimately putting their him into the chest and open up those windows and those holes for the for Nate and Burger.
So I think once we got the groove going, it was legitimately like a smooth like we had control, like we knew like all cylinders offensive, quarterback, running back, defense. Really, you know we can get on that. Let's go to the next one because I want to start breaking down. I'm like, let's get to it down down, You're good man. I
like to exel, no, this is all good. I mean, four hundred and six yards of total offense from Michigan State in sixty four plays, and they held Central Michigan to two hundred nineteen total yards on sixty six plays. So I think it was a great balance performance. Two hundred and seventy nine coming through the air through Noah Kim's arm all the way through, and
then one hundred and twenty seven on the ground. It was roughly one forty seven, but there was some kneel downs at the end of the game that does go against your rushing totals. We talked about it in the pregame. You know, you wanted to get over that one hundred and fifty yard rushing
mark. I think when you add Mangum back in, as you were talking about there at you or you know, you break a couple runs here or there, you're gonna get that You're gonna start to see that and this week for sure against Richmond, you look to see even more gaudy numbers on the ground. And Noah Kim, I mean, what could you gotta say about him? We're gonna talk about him in a minute. But defensively, otis talk about that secondary tackling. Oh this, and man, look, I
called up Chuck. He ain't answered, typical Chuck, but he'll he'll cambing back and he'll text. But then two one, I had I had a call to one because one, let's talk about like the edge setting, like this man finds a way to get to the legs of the running back or the whoever's receiver. You know, you look at these two edge guys two one, Dylan Tatum and Chuck un Once you got corners coming up, eating, hitting the run, stopping the run, everything kind of falls in itself,
like the running backs can't hit the outside. So when you see them coming up, and I'm talking coming up, like Dylan came up a couple of times, just saying hello, thank you man, sir. Like he had that vengeance of like I'm out here, like I'm here. Basically Chuck, Chuck doesn't Chuck does. Right now, there is a I wish we
had. I wish I'd have got this clip, but it was I was watching film again and it's a third quarter of where we Go darn package and Malik is the league comes down to like almost a spy mid level like linebacker and it was a draw and he came straight up and I'm talking laid the wood on this running back. And that's where I see these young guys like it's a difference, like it's if they want to come up and hit like versus like, hey, you know, let it break through the line and
you know, off to the races. But it was a committee the defensive backwise. We only had one little hiccup and I was a deep drag where Mangam kind of got lost in the sauce and eyes different ways going far left when it kind of came across, and you know, we we let that, We let that go. We let it go and THESA defensive backs have a thesa you gotta go to the next player. And you saw that where you know, we locked it down for the rest of the game. So
shout outs to my boys the secondary. Maybe like now I put a star on Kyle Holliday right if it wasn't for Kyle getting that interception, Like there was a momentum of Central Michigan's offense getting some momentum and when that deflection from the defensive line, he comes up and snags it for intern like that, Who's that was Jello? Oh? It was? Yeah, I know, I mean the way Dellow was actively everywhere, right, yeah, look at
it, you're right, okay, yeah, yeah, you know. Originally the people in the stadium actually said it was I think they said it was Derek Harmit that tipped it. But then we saw the replay and saw it was Jellow. Jello play lights out to just giving him some problems. Absolutely, look Jello at first, like back back like last season, we were we just didn't know which Jello going out there, right, we didn't know
which gross like it was kind of hit or miss, inconsistent. But he was a naming factor, determining factor of coming out there and making solid players on third and long. I mean, obviously let's talking about Jacoby Limouth, Like, go ahead, guys, go ahead, we are in look to Kobe's to be a Jacobe oh Man. Just just the Big ten, highest rated linebacker in the Big ten, I think by Pro Football Focus. Here it is right here, top rated linebacker at the Big Ten during week one
eighty three point six percent per Pro Football Focus. I mean, the Pro Football Focus was becoming the bible for everyone. Here it is hey recorded eighty. Look that's the best defensive grade in the in the country. Okay, sixth best in the country, but first in the Big Ten. Two defensive stop, a sack, no completions allowed him. He was all over the field, you know, didn't make a lot of sacks. I think he had one sack, but he hit one sack and when we did get the
three sacks. We're gonna more on that in a moment. Trigger promotion for IHOP. Cal ferre joins the show in a minute. But look, Jacoby Winning and Cal Holliday had a great game. Man bru Lay, Look Bruley was balling. Jordan Hall got in the game, true freshman. I mean that linebacker, that second level was playing great. We talked about the secondary. That second level played up to the billing that we all talked about, and we knew that they were gonna be one of the strongest units on the
entire team. But when you talk about that front, that defensive line, you know, you got Simon Barrow, he comes out, took a lot of double teams, make got a sack early ball game there. But then you know, when I look, I couldn't take my eyes off of ninety nine, a big fella, the big transfer out of Colorado, Jalen Sammy. You talk about a guy coming in and the second team six seven, three hundred thirty pounds. I've seen this guy. I think he was walking
around pizza house that after the game. Yeah, you saw him as a man right there, and the central Michigan guards were having trouble, you know, keeping the line of scrimmage with him. He's pushing everybody backwards, so you know that along. I mean, there was a lot of guys making plays out there as I am young. I mean, he was setting the edge himself, playing contain very smart football player, youngster out of Georgia. And Brandon Wright was in there, Tam say Hansen, I mean, look
at this. Look it's just it's just I mean, man, look now, here's here's one thing as a defensive guy watching and I mean obviously in live time on Friday, our angle suits, our angle pursuits, we just got to improve on because there's times where we should have definitely had more attackers for loss and more more sex, but it was the angles of pursuit that
kind of go too shallow and then quarterback leaks out. I feel like that's the only knot is just keeping him in in, you know, inside the park just like this, keeping inside the pocket contain on every six, every everywhere. So that's the only one downfall that we'll have to improve on in week two is angle pursuit. Make sure we're all right and we're all lays to get it right. Yeah, I agree with you on that otis.
I think that that is why you saw a couple you know, mis tackles and stuff like that, But it was that angle of pursuit that didn't put themselves in that in that right position to you know, make the plays there. But overall, I stated this, you know at the beginning, I think our defense is gonna shock a lot of people. I think our defense is going to be one of the leading forces to carry us, you know,
this season. And it was really it was really cool to see, you know, a guy like Dylan Tatum, like we talked about, he was ready to play. He was absolutely ready to play. He came out, he was hitting, he was flying around our secondary. You saw you see exponential amount of growth in that secondary with at every position in that secondary compared to where we were last year in the first game. So that is something our linebackers. I think Jacobe Winman playing that linebacker position full time last
year he started on the on the d line and worked some stuff. You know, playing that linebacker position full time, I think that's absolutely key our defensive front. We can rotate three deep in that defensive front. They continue to come and bring their pressure every single time. It was really fun to watch that defensive play and you saw little sparks of like when our Doozy was
here, guys were excited to fly around to the football. You've seen you know, five six, seven hats on the football, you know showing up in the screen. Those are things that you know that's gonna come to and when you get into those later months, that's yes, exactly, absolutely the things and you don't talk about, you know, the screens and staying home on that reverse. You know we had our d n staying home and not chasing that quarterback down and you know, making that go for a big play.
That's right, saying he kept it maturation. Excellent, guys, you were talking about those linebackers. Let's let's look at the radio call from the booth and watching Cal Halliday on that interception here thirty four second down in five, Emmanuel takes a shotguns snap fire's right side and thick intercepted at the thirty one yard line. Cal Halliday makes another big time sparked and play Oh mandit man, man, you know were gonna get that second ventage point put another
Look, we're gonna work on that. Yeah, we donna make it work. We're gonna make it work. Maybe one one position group we have not really touched on ad link is the wide receiver group, and Mel Tucker talked a lot about them in this clip. Here. We have, like I said, we have multiple targets, multiple guys that can make plays. I mean, Fitzpatrick can make plays, Tray Mosley can make plays, Glover can make plays, Case can make players, Tyroll Henry can make plays. You
know, Burger can make plays. You know this goes on and on. You know what I mean? We have, you know guys that you know they can make plays. So we don't have to worry up. We don't have to concern ourselves with that. Just run the offense, get the ball where it's supposed to go, execute, and just keep shopping. Just keep shopping. I mean, he just ran down a whole laundry. There's the
guys who did make plays. You know, you talked a little bit about Tyrrell Henry and that, but like guys, there were a lot of great performances out there on the wide receiver end. And you look Geron Glover after Central Michigan goes up seven to three in the ball game, as you talked about, otis gotta got lost in the secondary with bad eye control. Fellas Noah Kidman company comes out and they answer with an eighty four yard drive,
three catches for drawing Glover and that one series for seventy five yards. I mean, this was that? Was it? This shoulder on that first yeah, yeah, yeah, but but yeah yeah, and then he gets the other one on the other side. It's just like, this is gonna work for our favor as we get down later in the season when you have multiple guys that make plays where you can't just single in on one guy like you can't, like because everybody's gonna get open and they got to make them play
like I do. I do believe Trey could have played obviously at his at a better trade mostly. But when that happens, look at the other guys coming out, and when he talked about this is gonna be a committee, this is gonna be a committee. Look, it's like look, no, no, and we were talking. Sidney had stayed left right, yes, talked right right right, Yes, just sprint to the speaking back. You lose you lose speed going like that. I wish we had that that passing
you're talking about. That chimney ball, that shot it's called the chimney ball, right yeah, because saying it's too fat, too fit down the chimney. He just drops the presents the chimney ball shot. But look, but look no, I can't wait till again. But no, it has that like smooth like like get you get you looking like oh bite on the out and up right, I'm not throwing it out, you know, like smooth.
I know we got we got to jump, but I got to give a shot out, you know, because people say I'm not I'm not fair with the kicker, Jathan Kim, other kid, the other kids him. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, you can't go there with it. God forbid. It's a forty eight yarder. Yeah, I'm surprised you didn't run out. I'm surprised you didn't run out on the field, like, let's go. I did dab him up though, you did. Okay, Oh that's huge. I don't know if mister Kim knows about that. John.
That's big gotta from jew Guys. You know, we can moving on here because we got a jam back show, We got a couple of guests that we got to get on. We would be remiss if we did not discuss what everybody. There's a topic going on about Linte Brown. He took a shot in the opening kickoff return of the game. He goes down, he gets put in traction, goes into the tunnel, and he comes back out and actually plays in the first half. At the end of the game and
return the kick. People are saying, guys like, you know, he was concussed and why did they let him back on somebody's heads got a roll, But that's not the full story. From what we understand, Jo, you were down there on the field. You saw that at advantage point that not many people got a chance to see him. What did you see?
Yeah, you know, you know, like I we talked about on the broadcast there he was stretchered off, but when he got in the tunnel, he did, you know, hop off the cart and sprinted to the X ray room. So they went and they did the full back up on him and everything like that, and he did, like you said, he did come back into the game. And you know, coach Tucker said, you know, he relies on the training staff, you know, to help with
those decisions and everything like that. So you know, that's all you can go by. That's why the training staff is there. That's their role. It's not the coaches roles to go and evaluate players when it comes to injuries. But it's there. It's there. You know. They have to trust the training staff because they are all, you know, and working in one direction. Listen, I've had concussions. I don't know if y'all having cussions. Oh, I'm assuming you sis you played, may have any not on
record. Yeah, I've had. I had a lot that NFL's concussion settlement. I've had tons. Where are we who? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, yeah, I've had I've had some bad ones. I can testify you ain't all the way there all the time. Go ahead, that's a gool. But they the concussion protocol on the test. If it is tough to pass it, if you're very if you're concuss Like clearly they went through everything, so leaving up to the professionals, leaving up to the trading staff.
Like if he was not ready, they would not put him out there, like I recall, like having a boxing delay, like I hit, somebody came to the sideline passed out. Yeah I'm done, Like there's no way I'm take his helmet. Don't because that's the very first thing you start to do is worth my helmet. I'm trying to go back in. You know, you think nothing happened, you don't have any trauma. But the way he did it, it looked it was more of a body shot versus a
head collision. It was like here, so I one, yes, we're getting flat, but two, trust me, if he would have failed the concussion protocol, he would have not been out there playing like there's no way, shape or form. They would allow him to go out there and play, so like let's move off. But the way they did it, honestly, they should she just got him up walked him off the field, like, because if you go off on the stretcher and it takes that long.
Yeah, I think just the response response of it, we shouldn't have got him up and let him walk off on his own, because clearly she said he got a like Jesus to heal man like hell ran off right. So I think it's an element of just they did their job. So let's just just it is. So you broke it down from a scientific because I mean, it might have been a body shot. It could have been a nerve like a bad stinger, because he fell down kind of awkward and it looked
ugly. But for me, the Littenist test is when Mama m was down there, When Mama Mama m was down there, I'm watching from the booth and I see her run up. You know, coach tucks right, don't
get fired for it. But I learned from the game, like, well I know if I was Mama. Yeah, so, but her reaction, her body language told the story that if her baby was out cold, are not coherent her eyes, because I mean, it does it's scary to see somebody out He was coherent, he was moving, She was calm, and as Chow said, he got off of the card and ran and it came back out like there was no head trauma there. So we'll just from what
we could tell, Okay, we can. We talked about how how Jack the stadium and the atmosphere was when they ran out and they did the national anthem, I mean the highest of highs, like the national anthem, the student section singing it very loud and unity strong, and that first play like it almost felt like it was deflated, Like I feel like get that that was like it took us a minute to get that back like that juice and I think that first half of those woes. But but look he came back
out and clearly what's running on the kid convert, So we're good. He's back. Shot out. Shout out to her players too, for bouncing back. When you see it, your your teammate go off like that and you don't know, you know what's happening and everything like that. It's but you know, shout out to the players for you know, bouncing back and continue
to play. Absolutely, it can be traumatic. You guys are absolutely right, guys, So great crowd, by the way, great crowd for everybody on Friday Night, guys, transport Portal News, the transfer Portal take it. And we would be remiss if we didn't talk about this. But Keyon Coleman has a monster game, guys on Primetime on Sunday Night. Nine catches one hundred and twenty two yards. I think it was three touchdowns, missed
another one at the end. Quarterback held it should have got four. But just a monster performance for key On down in seminole Country, beating the number five rank LSU Tigers. Yeah, you saw a taste you guys, like instant validation, taking a chance on himself and get into a situation where obviously he's driving. Like that was a huge testament to who Kean is. We aren't no Keyan as a dog and can involve and so in putting on the prime time lights, you know, it just shows attestment to who he is.
I mean and man, truly, Game one has put him in the conversation first round. That's what he talked about, Like y'all remember he was with us, talking with us. He's like, he's that's his goal and he clearly has that on his mind and he did it. He did it in a fashion of team though, like it wasn't just him right, he did it within the game. So of course I would love it if it was an the Green Way, clearly, but we talked about we would all
love that. But with those players it's been called that way. For him, we don't know. But he went down there and it shows that coach Hawkins coaching him up steals taking it down to Tallahassee and then get in some of that coaching. You know, it was put together a well rounder which was receiver. So kudos Kean, kudos, Man, kudos brother. I wish he was here. Still still missing, brother, still missing, but man, hey, any thoughts on there? Yeah, you know I saw
that. I watched the entire game specifically or you know him, and I was happy, you know, very happy with the game that he played. And I know you have the outside noise of you know, people saying, you know, it's it's a detriment. We need to look within our coaching staff and everything. You don't need to do that. We recruited the kid. He came here, he he helped us, he learned, and he made a decision for himself and his family. I think, you know,
you can't there's nothing You can't blame Michigan State coaches. You know. I've seen people say it's Michigan State coaches fault because they couldn't keep him. No, it's not it. He made the best decision for him and his family, and that's what we should all respect that and we should cheer him on because he was here. He gave everything he had to us when he was
playing in the Green and white. Now he's in Florida State. He's given everything to in all the seminoles you know, in that maroon and gold that he has now. And you know, you talk about him staying him going. I've been to Tallahassee. I've been to Florida State and right over there's fam Use there too. Now where are you going with this? Too? Great point too, there's there's Florida State, there's fam you. Yeah, it's not easy to get sucked in to stay there. So interesting choice of
words. Man, Look, uh, I love There's nothing greater than a guy, a player, an athlete period that bets on themselves against a huge current of naysayers and people that hey, listen, I don't you know, even myself like, just don't do that. You know, you got a great situation. Why I mess it up and you still find a way to win through that. So, I mean I'm encouraged by it. I think it was a win win for Michigan State exactly. He's having success, They're
doing his thing, and our guys are having success. Absolutely, these guys are having the opportunity to come out and showcase their henry, you know, balling like making plays like that. Glover fits all those guys are gonna have the opportunity to come out and showcase himself. It's a win win and fam used right there too. And RIX is open on Saturday night after the game this weekend, is what I said. I was sure. I was sure. Wait for is demon Deacons very salty? Oh K nine bust out for
that first touchdown? Right exactly. So it is like you said, it happens to everyone, every every program. But yeah, now transport, transfer port and give it. So let's give it. Look, we have your boy number five, that boy you know, looking like bush out there, son boy looking that boy looking straight like just wait if think he still got more in his bag? Still got more? We're talking about the Yukon transferred night Carter. Okay, So you know we lose something the portal. We
got something from the portal too. You talked about him at length eight Kara's one hundred and thirteen yards of the touch. Yeah, and you know he came out and he played. He had a lot of He was injured last year and this was a year that he had a lot to prove. And also too, like you got to give a shout out coach read the running backs coach. He's been working those boys. He knew last year wasn't what
they could do. Those guys now he has the right group there. They're starting to formulate, they're starting to to, you know, separate themselves from the pack. There's a lot there's a good running backs room right there. But what's starting to happen is if you're in the training room, you're not gonna get a lot of time on the field. So and if if you're not on the field and those other guys start bawling and start going, your
reps are gonna start shrinking and shrinking. So the best thing about that running backs room right now is they're gonna keep pushing each other to be great. I talked to Javon before the game and we're on the sideline there. He's like those two guys, if they can, if they can stay together like that, they have the best want to punch com you know, And we were talking about that and like similar to what we had. He feels like they can duplicate something like that. So, you know, coming from Javan,
you know, that's a huge compliment there, that issue. I like, that comment just came up, said that Nate's best was the best performance by running back in the state of Michigan. Shot it's true, that is true, shots fired. Yes, sir, that is true. They didn't do so good down the road. But that we'll get into that at another date. Guys, they're watching us right now over in Nova, Michigan, Lake, Michigan, Amy Kross, we see you over there, a little
town called Venice, Italy, and Qatar. They're watching us all over the world Katar right now. I mean it's it's early, it's late. I'm sorry, it's really late. Yeah, buddy. So you know, before we continue, we've got to bring on our special guests. And since we're celebrating a one year anniversary, if we have to bring on cal Farah from Ie Hoop, who's been with us from the beginning, Cayle, welcome back to the show. You're a friend of the show, partner of the show.
Obviously one from my hope right in location was the best part of your good Cayl. So this Saturday, this past Friday, and in the coming home games, there's a new trigger promotion going on for eyehop in the stadium. Can you talk about that a little bit and share it with the fans. Yeah, So we're trying to give an added incentive to the defensive line. So for every sack they get, if they get and get three,
it'll show up. Each fan at the game can get a free short stack for the next seventy two hours after the game with a game ticket purchase of a beverage any Michigan store, I hoop any any how long state wide seventy two hours, I said, after every home game. And it's good for seventy two hours after the game. For how many days is that? Three sacks re paycakes? Three days? There? It is. Use my credential because I don't have a game ticket. Man. No, look, this
is the best. You know. The best part is, like we are the game one is always gonna be hiccups because you just gotta roll with it, right. So the first time it happened, Kyle texts was like, hey, the video board went out and I'm text was like, hey, it's a system error because clearly everything's running real smoothly till this happened. Because we've been looking at it, was like, all right, that's the third
sack. He was like, its technically four sacks. I was like, I go, no, cow, it was a read option and the quarterback quarterback still had it and he's still because you just say tackles for loss, but sacks. But no, everybody, like even people that work internally, they were sitting in the game, you know, they told us about like people next to him like going crazy, the kids going crazy, like free
stacks, free, free stack pancakes, let's go. So mentioning it on the radio, Yeah, yeah, I mean, I think this is a great promotion, you know, And I'm quietly kind of doing something for the old line because we wanted to target one, you know, one aspect of the game. So you know, if we open it up for everything, that's gonna be a little tough, you know, you confuse messaging and whatnot. So I'm kind of doing a little something for the old line. You
know, if they prevent a sack. That's something me and Kamp are talking about. But uh, definitely doing this for the for the D line and trying to promote you know, just getting there man. You know that's the whole defense. I ain't just a D line and anybody can make a sack. Baby, everybody in the crow off can help with that too. So the louder you are, the harderness for that quarterback to communicate the offensive line.
There's breakdowns which causes sacks exactly. So you know what, Kyle, go ahead and bring that the syrup to the student sex and soup games. It's like a little portable bathtubs platoon where you go on really though, you know, we're celebrating the one year you know, anniversary for this show and you know, shout out to you, you know, like you're one of those people at the beginning, you know, believed in the concept. You
know, like, hey, we want to do this thing. We didn't know how it's gonna work, how you know, where logistics anything like that, and you open your doors, you open you know, you welcomed us. You know, we really appreciate that, and you know, you know You're one of the the key components in this that keeps us going, and I really appreciate it, and also too shout out to what you do for
the team. You know a lot of behind the scenes people that will see that, you know, taking food over, you know, working with the guys, you know, working with Nil, deals with those guys and everything. Really appreciate what you're what you're doing for the program as well. That helps a lot, you know within recruited and everything. Yeah, no,
I and I appreciate that, guys. I mean, it takes a lot that kind of goes into it. And my feeling is from the very beginning, is that my love for MSU, you know, being a graduate, love for football, you know, you know my best friends you know over here doing it. So it's it's a blind faith walking in, put your faith in God and kind of continue forward. And you know what I get, I get back. So if I can get a little, you know,
I get back a little. And that's the way it goes. I mean, it's it's got to be mutually beneficial for both of us to kind of continue this. So and it's worked out well. I mean we've been blessed, you know, here we are a year later and still kicking. But I was just waiting on those numbers. How many people visit the eyehops. I mean, I'm just waiting on it. I just want to know.
I just don't know. I'm looking. It's like, I gotta put the pressure on the other groups because i mean, I'm coming in at ninety percent. I'm like, come on, pitching, pitching. Absolutely, we appreciate. We appreciate it. Man, this this is gonna catch fire, especially we start putting the word out some more. So definitely appreciate. We're rolling the dice. Man. I got four home games in the month of September. It's like, let's do it move. I'm really appreciate pancakes coming
to short stack. Three three three three three. Okay, okay, you didn't see that. You didn't see that animation the video it's had a short stack. So we'll play pleasure everybody on YouTube. There you go. Three three. You thought the butter, You thought the butter was a little of a dollar. I need I need more butter than that on my extra butter, extra syrup. Cal's got it for you. He's got it, Hey, cal Man, we really appreciate it. Man, thank you for everything
that I'm doing. Look look forward to Smarren. I all deals here coming soon. Absolutely cal fair everybody, I hop and by the way, speaking eye hoop, here's a we're gonna get to no account after this vestas from our friends over an eyehop and SeatGeek introducing new buttermilk biscuits and sweet and savory flavors so everyone can have their perfect biscuit or how do one on the side get a breakfast biscuit sandwich with a side for just seven dollars for a limited
time. Seat Geek is the ticketing app for fans like the high five Strangers guy game winning interception first down, just a nice solid tackle. If you're in arms length, you will be swapping skin with this extra vegit. You see he knows Seakeek got him a great deal on tickets so we can focus on what he does best, smacking pause. SeatGeek handles the tickets to sports concerts and more so fans can fan well, guys, I mean we got
the eye happened to seek Geeks dropping him pancakes all over the chat. Love that, guys, without further ado, we gotta bring on him. That's Noah Kim QB one from Michigan State Joints. This is part of MSU. What's going on? Hey, hey, you got that swag about you? What's going on? I took a nap. Wait, get from backstage. Probably took a nap. I'm a little tired. Apologies. No, Hey, So, look, you got your first start on Friday. You know,
as QB one, no one really knew what was going on. But I'm sure you knew before the game that you were going to be the one that got the not Uh yeah, for sure. I think I was told like a week or so, like a week and a half before the game, and uh so that whole practice week leading up to the game and stuff we all knew and stuff. So now now talk about you know, everybody saw the game when you know you kind of had the jitters in the beginning.
I don't know if it was used personally or the team and everybody to collectively, but talk about how you were able to settle down and focus in the middle of seventy five thousand fans. It's your first start, You've got family in from home in Virginia, and you settle down and just like rocked it. Man two hundred and seventy nine yards. Yeah, I think it was. I think it was interesting. You know, you go into a game and you know, your first game of the season, you're expecting a
perfect game. Everyone's balling. You know, you hope you run for three hundred yards, you passed with three hundred yards. You know, you just expect the perfect game. But in a game like that, you know, I got miss throws on my end, you got drop passes. You know, we got stopped on fourth and one and stuff like that. You know, things aren't going your way. You got to find a way to you know, just kind of just really just focus on the next play. That's
really what our whole mentality was. And the good thing was, you know everyone was on the same page where no one was freaking out, and because we all knew all we gotta do is clean up a little stuff and once we do that, we're gonna be just fine. And you saw that going into the end of the first half into the second half, and uh, you know everything else started clicking from there. Yeah. No, you I
remember on the side walking, you know, past a sign. You guys came off and you're just you're telling again, we're good we're good, and you know, kept relating that to the team and when you guys came out and I felt like it really started clicking when we went into that two minute drill and going that tempo. Is that more of your game? Do you like the tempo kind of offense or are you more traditional want to huddle,
get everyone settled down and go from there. Yeah, we haven't been too much of a huddle team, but yeah, I think at times being like up tempo it is just good as an offense. I think it's hard on the defense to get their calls in, you know, get what they run on, what they want to run. You know, they scout you especially
Sentral Michigan. They probably scouted us for months, so you know they have specific calls and what they like and so getting the team, you know, their coach is not even being able to get all their calls in and stuff like that definitely helps a little bit and build some momentum up. But you know, something I just want to something I focus on is just whatever we're doing, just executing the play that coach Johnson calls. And you know we
were able to do that, you know better in the second half. Oh yeah, So talk about that halftime speech because clearly like we started getting a little moving and then you know, you took that shot down there, which I feel like should have been a caught touchdown, but you do it right on the money. But talk about the half time speech, because came up second half and it was it was on poping. But talk about you know what was said in there, everybody coach coach Tuck, coach Johnson talking about
that. Yeah, I think that's one of those stressful situations. You know, you go into halftime, you're well, I think it was I don't remember the square. I think it was ten three maybe, And it's like, you know, you could some teams you may walk in or like what are we doing? Freaking out and stuff like that. But I think what's great about this team is we walked into the locker room and everyone was kind of silent, and everyone was just like because we knew what we had in
store coming out in the second half. We knew all we needed to do was just clean up little mistakes, and so going into the locker room, just talking with the old lines like you guys keep doing what you guys are playing great, you guys are blocking well. I have all day to throw. There's nothing you need to change. Just keep doing what you're doing and everyone else is gonna make the plays and we're gonna get this thing rolling. And so you know, the receivers they try. Moseley wasn't freaking out,
Maleague wasn't freaking out. You know, the guys that you know you count on, nobody was freaking out. And so I think that just shows a lot about this team and how player lead we are, and you know, something that we continue to go with in the future. Yeah. So I know, before halftime, let's go, let's go back to the first half there things weren't going as well. And you you're my guy knowing, so I you know, I feel I can ask them. There were some booze
coming out of the stands. How did did you even hear them? Or did you like what? Did you know? What was that? Like, you know, you're three series in and the home crowds are starting to boot and become impatient. Yeah, I mean it's I didn't hear it too much. I did hear it, like I think I heard it once, But honestly, it kind of fired me up because I'm like, all right,
y'all, y'all want to boo us. All right, let's let's let's turn it around then, and so that I don't know, it kind of it kind of fire me up, and you know, it's just it kind of showed that, you know, as a team, we gotta played for each other and at the end of the day, we don't have to prove anything to anybody. We proved everything we need to within ourselves at practice and so that's that's what it was, just played for each other because we all know
we can make these plays. You know, the fans haven't seen seeing us play, and this is the first time they see us play, and so you know, everything that they're watching is based on last season right now, and so it's our job to just go out there and play. No, you just just touched on something right there. You know. Sometimes you know, you see pressure the bust pipes, right the burst pipes, and sometimes it can create diamonds. You know, We've been around a lot of athletes
and some guys seem to really thrive on the pressure. You just describe the booze make you. You said, okay, let's go, and I've seen you take a late hit out of bounds too. And you bounced right up, and it seems like you've got more energized from that. Pop bounce right up too, Papa Kid. When playing that, can you recall where that where you recognize that that kind of got you going in your athletetic career or just in your personal life. Uh, To be honest, I don't know.
I remember doing martial arts as a kid, and you know, every all all martial arts is basically you versus just another person. It's just one on one and stuff like that, and so everything like motivation wise, is internal, and so I thought it was just I don't know, I thought it was just at a young age I kind of had that instilled in me. And then just going into football and stuff like that is just carried over, except at a higher level because you have teammates with you and so they
could feed off my energy. And so that's something I hope I bring to the team, you know, every day in practice and in games. You know, they could feed off my energy because I'm gonna always create energy for myself. Look, they still haven't seen the bag that you got in a run game too, so which is which is great, Like it's great to to to keep that keep it guessing. I'm more impression. I want to give you, you know, credit where credits do? Is you share the
rock evenly? Like it wasn't you know looking at one guy staring down you was you was looking at every progression, and I think that was a huge testiment to like, obviously how you've been trained, but also you know this was this these games were one in the summertime, and so you know, talk about how is that a focal point for you in your game? Is sharing the rock evenly? Because yeah, you got one receiver that may have an advantage all the time, but you know that path that double I talked
about your smooth you know double pump to the fits. You know, talk about just sharing the wealth in the rock evenly? Yeah, for sure. I mean as a quarterback, you're gonna get all the hate and all the love, and so I think my job just just me personally. I don't think that like all the loves to go to me because at the end of the day, these all my receivers and running backs and tight ends, they're making the plays for me. All I gotta do is throw it to him.
That's my job. And so when I'm dropping back there I'm gonna throw it to the open man because I mean I've seen it in practice already. Every single one of our guys can make plays. You know, Ron, he's a sophomore, but you see in a game, he's gonna he makes the plays. Tyroll, Henry, he's gonna make the plays. Yeah, they're both sophomores, but they're out there for a reason. And you know I've thrown to them in practice hundreds of times now, and so you know,
I'm trusted every single person in our program right now. I can make you know, plays as long as I get it to him, and that's my job. So no, you you know that that touchdown that you know everyone's gonna talk about that catch by Henry there, but you set that up. Can you talk talk us through like what you saw to you because you said you changed into you checked into that play, correct? Can you can you talk us into you know, with how you know, tell us how
the sauce is just made? You know, what did you see that's You're like, Okay, hey, I'm gonna go to my guy here. Yeah, I just saw Tyrelle and that guy one on one basically, and it was just something that it was just kind of in the moment, I was just like, all right, well, I think Tyroll can beat him. I think he can make this play. So I just gave Tyrelle like all right, as I looked at him, gave him the thing and let him
do his thing out there and go get the ball. Yeah, like I mean, he's a flip of the right here, stop right here, oh man with the flag by the way, the pass an appearance. So this is what you saw we had, oh man, oh man, he was dusted before he was first of all his knock he's seeing them just no, he's not ready. So but right he's like you even put his mouth and he's said, you know, we had Tyll on and he talked about like
you know, this is our time to step up. You know, there's a there's a lot of catches out on the table when you know Keio with the Tallahassee and so Tyrrell said, you know, this is what he's gonna do, right, And it's good to see it come to fruition of guys that came on this show and talked about it and went out there and we're about it. So I can't I can't wait to look at the other stuff. Man, Like I can't wait to Richmond, but I definitely can't wait
to watching the game Richmond. I know you're gonna let it loose too. So so my thing for you is last year you were the backup and going into the week, you knew, hey, I still got to practice. Like I'm the starter. Everyone says all those cliche and everything, but you know, I'm not starting the game. When we kick off and offensive runs out there, I'm gonna be sitting in the back watching from the side to help out Peyton. Now you're the starter. What's your mindset and what's your
week? Like you know, asked to start in QB. Yeah, it's pretty busy. I mean, I'm watching a lot of film. Uh just have obligations that I didn't have last year. But you know, honestly, I think I think it uh to simplify everything. I think it's pretty much the same. It's just at the end of the day, we're playing ball, and so you want to perform at the highest ability that you can, and so all the preparation that I do is is for that and it's for this team. Because I gotta be on my best, I gotta be on
my best game every single week for my team. And you know, I trust that my whole team does the same thing for me. And because that's the only way this ship is gonna sail. And uh, that's that's really it. It's just playing ball. And so you gotta be as prepared as possible. Yeah, and no, no, real quick, because people don't know. People don't know because look too like too obviously we know Two loves you, right, so two loves the kids, he loves Everybody doesn't know
that. We get graded, right, this is a this is a this is a business book. We get a grade at the end of the game. You know, personally, how did you grade yourself? But it also with film and coaching staff. What was your grade from you know, from from last Friday, Uh, from the coaching To be honest, I don't even remember the grade I got. I'm I moved on to Richmond, you
know. After the game, I just watched. I watched the game film after and then uh, on Sunday I started watching the next year, I was I was watching Richmond on Sunday, and uh, but I think it's hard to put a grade on you know, just my performance and the team's performance. But I thought we we definitely left a lot of plays out on the field, for one, and so we have a lot of improvement to
make and you know, hopefully we show that on Saturday. And two we made some great plays and so we have some We have some really good players on this team, and you know, I'm excited for them, and you know, I'm hoping to get out there and play with them again. And uh, you know, you know, raise it up another notch. No, No, as an offensive player, you're the quarterback, you q be
on this team. Tell the people what it means to the offense when you're watching the defense play that kind of game that they played out there on Friday night. Yeah, that definitely helps us. I mean it definitely fueled us a little bit as well, because you know, you see your teammates out there and they're battling, and you know, the defense is making stop after stop no matter what the score was. You know, they weren't over here
complaining either. There was going out there and getting the businesses. So that adds fuel to us. You know, they're working hard, so we gotta we gotta reward them for their hard work. And you know, hopefully, you know, we could put the ball in the end zone a few more times so that they can don't have to worry about us too much. So no, you know, the three of us, Otis, Jason, and
myself, we all played this game. We played at Michigan State. Me coming out, I came from a small hometown, a small hometown with twenty six kids. Feel you know, I had to represent my hometown. Straight from Indianapolis, had to represent Naptown, Otis from Flint, A lot of great legacy, a lot of great athletes coming had to represent. You made history this week. You know, you were the first Asian American quarterback to start a Big ten game. How how cool? How cool is that?
And how proud are you about that? For kids that look like you. Yeah, I'm I'm I'm very proud and honored to do that. You know, I'm blessed to play this sport and uh to wear the last name Kim on the back of my jersey. There's a lot of uh, you know, there's a lot of other Kims out there, And I know my grandfather is proud of me for uh, you know, going out there and wearing
that name proudly. And you know, I hopefully uh you know I can inspire a lot of other Kims and you know, other Asian Americans out there, you know, because this is a great game. You know, you never, you never, anybody can play this game. And so, uh, you know, that's the message I want to send out there, you know, and you know, hopefully we can keep this thing wrong because it's
something good. So you have another Kim on the team. Both of you guys are from Virginia, but there's no relation each other at all or no, like, no, we didn't know. Yeah, the first day he walked in, I remember, I was just like, let's just if people ask, let's just say we're cousins. Gave that nod. Yeah, No, you got some accolic some awards back home this week, didn't you. Yeah, I was. I was informed today. I didn't even know I got I got that, But that was pretty cool. What what award is
that? If you want to elaborate, ju you know something, Yes, that Washington DC Coaches Club, you know they do that weekly, you know, athlete and no, it was the one. This is the trophy actually that he won as the player of the Year back when he was in high school playing out there, and it was from couple awards and he even beat out Caleb Williams for those things. Spartan nationship, We're our future is right? No, no, you humble guy. Man look right because because we
would you look pride, pride comes before the fall? Man? You staying? I like that guy. He's a coach D guy. I know he is. I know he is coach D would be ablue proud like pride comes before the fall. I know you heard that from him right most of the times. So look, you're the only guy that gets We got stopped when we were at the Big Ten media days, some guys from like the East Coast Maryland, remember that stopped us. And I was like, you guys
are crazy if you're not playing kill. I'm like, when you were ten years old, you like legendary on the East Coast man, So hey, you're cutting your teeth making your name right now and be a legend in the Big ten. How does that make you feel? Well? I gotta get there first, and so uh, you know, it's a it's a grind, you know, that's a that's a dream and that's a goal for sure, but that's it's it's got to be earned. And you know it's I
can't expect anything. I gotta earn it, and so something I gotta go out there and you know, definitely earned sir. Yeah, So you guys had you know, your family, you know, came. There was a lot of support. There was fifteen people you know from back home that came to watch the game. Your dad, you know, I just kept looking up at him. He was he was you know, he wanted it success so much for you because he knows all the hard work that you put in.
It was just really cool to see. But you know, having all that family there and friends they're supporting you. You know, what did that mean to you? I mean that means the world. You know I have I have, you know, biasedly, I have the best fan base behind me. And that's that's really supported with my family and my friends. You know, they I think one of my parents come to almost every single game
home or away. And you know, just seeing my family there, and you know, my little brother takes me before the game, my sister takes me before the game. It's definitely something to play for. That's they're They're one of my reasons why I played his game. Why you know, I practice and train and you know, do everything I do at the as hard as I can every day just because, uh, you know, without them,
I wouldn't be in the position I am. And they, you know, they set me up from for success as a young as a young kid. And yes, it's definitely a blessing to have them behind me. Yeah, and they'll still say your sister's the moth athletic in the family. So, but there's a big there's something big that's that's that's coming up. And uh, I don't know if you know this yet, but I think it's the Maryland game. There's this big cookoff that's that's gonna happening between Otis Seingo,
Otis Senior, is mister Tatum in that too. Yeah, yeah, a big cook off. Your dad said he's coming, earl, he's coming up the game shatter. He's coming on Thursday, so he can prep you know, for this, for this cookoff here and straight and now we're gonna be judging. Yeah, I might have to miss a pre game so that week. Yeah, what what? Okay, what we make it? What's on the menu? Do we know? We gotta get that lineup? We gotta get We'll get that lineup. Ready, we get we'll get it ready,
we'll get it tight, we'll get it more. We'll get we'll get the fans and the subscribers and fans a good show. So we'll get it right. It's it's mister Tatum in this chat right now, because he's been thrown in there. So we'll get We'll get a group chat with the with the four cooks, and then you guys can plan what you guys are making. You and I are just there to taste, right, We do that well, right, we do that very well. Any any personal goals for
for you? I know that it's a team game, So what goals do you have for this team? You know, one, you know we were going to everything. We're going to every game planning to win every you know, every game we play on this schedule, you know every game is winnable. And we know that for a fact, And you know we expect the best petition this year, and you know we're gonna give it our all every
single game. We're gonna bring it. You know, it's hard to pinpoint exactly what what we want to do, but I know for a fact, if we if we prepare like we're supposed to, and we play like we're supposed to. We can win every game, and winning every game brings championships and that's something that we want to do. So yeah, I think that. I think that's it for goals. It's not too many personal goals right now. It's all about the team. I love it. You gotta love
it. Look, Noah, we'll let you get back to prepare for a Richmond and it will bring you back on. Obviously you're a friend of the show, you're a surrogate, you got a stepfather in whatever. It's awesome. But like Tuesday night in East Lanton, go on, go on, do a little have a little fun Tuesday. He gotta prepare to. He's a quarter You're right, You're right, the quarterbacks staying. Yeah, just hear the stories the next day. He ain't just coming in and run a
one yard touchdown. You guys satisfied? They all add up. They all add up. They do they do. You get paid off the boys, Nothing wrong with it, Hey, no favor next time as a big back. This really pisses me off. One's fourth and one of yard and the shotgun and the pistol. I know there's nothing. I'm like. You don't say anything, but I'm just saying, you know, I'm a sinner. You can't Sinners can't get can't can't trigger stepping fire off in the gun because
we're worried about it going over your head thirty yards. It's just one of those things. We're softer, we're softer when we end the guns. Like, look, I'm just gonna score. It don't matter though. I let y'all tell, let y'all say what y'all want to say. Y'all, hey days like about the score. I don't care what. I appreciate you, man, spend your time on Tuesday night, brother, I know, yeah, get up, but appreciate you. Appreciate you. No good luck this
week, thank you, alright, Noah, kill everybody. QB one Michigan State University. Look, hey, man coming out party. That was a good one. Him being able to correct himself and then settle down and just look like the man. And you see it right there, calm, cool, collected leader. Yeah, but he's a fierce competitor. You just know it, Like, oh, yeah, you know what I'm saying, Like you just know I'm gonna go out there, I'm gonna do all that I
can to win this game. And that's all. That's all Swart Nations asking for someone going out there to put it on their back, on their shoulders and carry the team. But do whatever it takes. So some something I wanted to throw out there and what we're talking to knowing and it's just a
tip. It's just a tip to fans. You know they said that, you know when we talked about the boom and it's like they were booing j Johnson not not the not no or the team players don't know that players here when when they're on the field, they're not like the fans are like message coach boo it's for the coach, not if they just hear Booze and the like if Booze are coming out there, like clearly we ain't playing well,
you know what I'm saying, Like it was too early. But I think to his point, yeah, to his point, the last year's steak was still on us and it kind of gave you that put it up there, Darius. Now three hundred and sixty, as I've been going through something, be afraid just came out. That's hot, that's hot, that's too Winter's coming on. But no, I think that it's an element of like they clearly Spartana to expect you to get that first touch and take it to the
house and set the toll right. It takes it takes some time to get this jail right, you know. But yeah, yeah, but you saw the response, the response, Yeah, it's terrible program somebody in the first half. I mean, look, I understand I inspired football, but I'll tell you one thing. Nobody on the planet wants to win more than them boys in the in the uniforms out there right, nobody, nobody wants to win more than they do. They ain't out there playing games. They want
to win the game, right, win. You know what I wish, I wish you could just switch, Like if you bo you go go just take their place and see if you can complete a pass. Like see what it's like under pressure. You know. I learned something like when you talked about that send, you're softer, you know, when you're snapping from there, I learned something about that. I was always just thinking, you know,
the back coming down, getting momentum line going. But I wonder why you think about that versus how because you're the back, right, you know, it's true, it's true. Putting myself in that you know, like, okay, is he really you know, getting off like that? You know, yeah, under center, you can you get off right, you know what I mean, because there's no risk. I'm on the side. Sure. Other dangerous thing on the goal line, though, is under center.
And you try to call one of them dan outside reach the mouth side zones and the quarterback doesn't ride the center, the ball can come up short fumble, you know. And look at that dude Climson game the boy last. Yeah, just that that mesh point fumbling. You know, look like J. J. McCarthy and twenty one and Swartan Stadium dropping the ball on the one yard line first and go twice. Nightmare scenarios. Man, just get under center. Man, let's get it in there. Take you over
the top, you know what I mean? Hey, guys, GREATSD No, no, no jumping over the top TSD. Right here, go get your book, everybody. You see that run from Civil War to the NFL by Bill Burke. Hey, this is choose book, his live story. We just got one slave horn household.
