With thousands of AI virtual assistants like Alexa, Siri, and ChatGPT around us, Chris points out that they all have one thing in common: they’re reactive, meaning they only act when prompted. He argues that true assistance would involve these AIs becoming proactive, helping us without being asked, much like a skilled human assistant would. When ChatGPT’s voice assistant recently started talking without prompts, people called it a "bug" and freaked out, but Chris views this as a positive step toward AI that can predict and meet our needs autonomously. He emphasizes the need for these AIs to be situationally aware to avoid unnecessary interruptions and believes that proactive AI could significantly enhance our lives if we overcome our fear of it.
