1996年4月28日，一名開著黃色Volvo轎車的男子，帶著一個沉重的運動用品袋走進了位在亞瑟港附近的咖啡廳。他禮貌地將餐盤還給櫃檯，接著放下手提袋看了看四周，接著便從提袋裡拿出一把半自動步槍，開始對著咖啡廳裡的旅客無情掃射。
這場劫難帶走了35條無辜的性命，超過20人身受重傷。後續澳洲當局也對槍枝的持有做了重大的立法修正，避免相同的悲劇再次上演。
