Medabots: The Pokémon Clone with Potential

Let me tell you , I grew up watching Metabox as part of my Saturday morning routine as a kid Watch my favorite TV shows , play some video games , maybe meet up with some friends and do shit like play card games , video games , play with Beyblades , kid stuff Speaking of which , I might be inclined to review things like Beyblade and Bakugan in the future .

We'll see . Now let's go ahead and zone into this review on Metabox . Now Starting as a role playing game video game series in Japan back in 97 by Ren Harumaran , haruma and the company Imagineer . Metabox focused on players building Metabox , collecting parts , battling with each other these Metabox operators , or Metafighters if you prefer . What are these robots ?

Powered by the golden hexagonal metals inserted inside of them , with AI that gives these machines a personality of its own , capabilities that ranges from assisting their Metafighters or Metabox operators , because , you know , sometimes they don't actually roll battle , they just have Metabox , just a Heparon house or something like household chores , but they would most of the

time you see somebody competing against each other for sport , especially with the World Role Battle Cup under the regulation of the Metabox Corporation . Now some metals happen to be rare metals that allow some Metabox to perform an attack called the Metaforce .

Now in the manga the Metaforce is described as metal mind control by Dr Aki , the creator of Metabox Well , not exactly creator exactly , but I'll explain . I'll get there . But the anime explains Metaforce as an increase in power of a Metabox special attack and it takes many forms depending on the Metabox and its metal .

Because even though for the most part you see Metabox be using Metaforce and it seems like this beam attack , some folks , like some Metabox like Roku show , will do this slash attack . So it's not exactly a beam attack , it's more like a energy slash attack .

So , yeah , now it wasn't until later in the series that we learned that Metabox are actually thousands of years old . There's these remnants of an ancient civilization who call themselves the metaloreans . Now , pause , every time I hear this name , metaloreans , am I the only one that thinking Mandaloreans from Star Wars ?

Now , seriously , the metaloreans were obsessed with war and to become the more effective warriors and they fastened metal armor to themselves and pretty much became like prototype , primitive version of the metal box you would see in the series . However , there were decimated civilizations .

The survivors coded their memories into these hexagonal pieces of metal , the metals that you will see . Well , the rare metals like Even mind that the metals , the regular ones , have been mass produced , so it's not exactly an original .

So the normal metals are mass produced by the Metabox corporation that was founded by Dakek Aki and they are the metabox equivalent of a brain and soul , so original metals referred to as rare metals kept in stores because of the stream power that they have .

But that's when the plot kicks in , where Phantom Renegade decided to infiltrate metal box corporation and hunt it down by select corpse and by pure dumb luck he had the metal slip from his hand and that metal is Metabox brain and soul .

And that's when the anime kicks in , where the storage centers around a boy named Ikky Tenryo and his metabox partner , metabox , as they battle a wide array of metabox fighters and metabox collecting new parts and earning enough notoriety to eventually enter the world world battle cup . Their local store clerk , henry , sold Ikky the KBT type metabox kit .

But it's also the Phantom Thief of rare metals and the top ranked metafighter in Japan , both Phantom Renegade and Space Metafighter X respectively . I will explain that later on . It was Henry who sold the metal that is metabox soul , but a stroke of bad luck on some of the moves . I'm sorry , I wrote a script .

I'm not going on bullshit where you're wasting my wrote a script and I'm kind of getting ahead of myself , but you know I really fought with this series , so please understand .

So , essentially , ikky finds the metal that happens to be metabox soul in the river and during Ikky's career as a metafight he also serves as a foil for the nefarious rubber robo gang that's led by Dr Meta Evil . Get their ambiguous , unfocused plan for world domination .

But not as much jokes as I would say about the second season , known as metabox spirits , where the plot did take away a lot of recurring characters to make room for Kamizaki and the rise of the Kielobots and X metals .

These Kielobots , they are like zero personality , zero emotion , immune to the metaphors , equipped with parts that would be considered more military grade , no qualms or remorse when breaking rules .

To secure the victories , and with the help of Dr Aki , granddaughter Nye Ikky metabe , they need new parts and new tricks up their sleeves , like action mode and demolition mode to take down the Keywood boss and cam and the friends that cam . Well , I don't know if it's called friends like . I'll explain them later .

But there's a whole thing , cam , that one talk about later . Now Iki is assisted by Erika , and this new guy is Zuru , who will be the mystery men , a fighter to rid the world of these keelobots and restore honor to the sport of road battles . Now that was the plot in a nutshell . Let's talk about the characters . Iki Tenreo .

Imagine Izuku Midoriya from my Hero Academia , who observed hero work and the quirks of others while being quirkless , except that he had a big ego about how he Be a much better hero than others if he had the opportunity , he will use his quirk way more efficiently if he had quirk .

Imagine asked catching from Pokemon with his initial frustrating relationship with Pikachu and Charmillion slash Charizard . But this dynamic drags out much longer in the plot . That's how I can describe Iki Tenreo . Before men a be Iki would spectator battles from a sideline and Give his perspective from a somewhat condescending manner .

It pisses off his classmates and Guys . Let the screws would roast him for not even having a minibus due to being broke . I know you ain't talking with your bro cat . You don't even have a minibus . But after Scrounging up some money he went to Henry to get that KBT type men about that dusty as Men about that .

He didn't want at first but that's the only he can afford and inserted the middle that he fell in the river by chance . He began his row about a career with a fair amount of dubs and elves .

Despite his perception of role battles and menopause , iki learns over time that he was terribly inexperienced , found himself humbled by characters such as Cody more elaboration when I get him and , worth of all , had a Flimsy relationship with metabee , which caused him to lose role battles that he could have won if he had listened to others rather than being blinded by

his own hubris . Not too bad one . It Iki too much . But it's like in hindsight Iki wasn't all that . Now metabee , imagine vendor from Futurama , but more family , friendly . That's metabee in a nutshell rebellious , arrogant , headstrong , anti-heroic these are words that describe him .

Normally at odds with Iki , metabee has a short temper and will shoot at in retaliation . As far as ego , metabee holds a mirror to Iki because they're like both eat , fairly ego-tistical when you Really notice , both of them have this sense of pride that can lead to overestimation and failures as a result .

However , metabee can be fairly friendly to other people , including Mrs Tenereo , iki's mom , but his defiance is more exclusive to his own meta fighter , iki , and as a guy looking at everything in retrospective , I say metabee is Iki's karma , but over time they become best friends , with the occasional budding of heads .

So you know that comes with the territory , but it was kind of a messy relationship at first . Now Erica , I'm a cause for today . Erica , the nosy , assertive tomboy with vigilance for the next group for the school newspaper . Erica is likeable to me because she adds agency to the story .

Whenever something is going down , erica is used on the case like a detective of sorts . She involves Iki , metabee , her own metabot , brass and others and strange stories and mysteries that that she feels need to be solved , which usually leads to the role battle of the week .

While Iki is a more reactive character , erica serves as the active character that helps move the plot along , and that's why I'm very glad that , of all the people that they removed for the second season , I'm glad that they kept Erica , because at least with her she kind of helps move the plot along , like , as I said Now Henry , also known as Bantam Renegade ,

also known as base meta fighter X , the man that kick started the plot , living a triple life as a humble store clerk , a wanted thief of rare metals in Japan's best meta fighter , with his identity kept as a secret , henry feels like an that older brother character that , like many others , help Iki on occasions when bad situation arises .

Like Iki , henry has been a Metaphorical wrench in the River River gang plans . By stealing the metals the gang has stolen themselves , kind of like a Robin Hood of metafighters . It was later that Henry would masquerade as base meta fighter X to participate in the World War battle cup with his partner arc beetle . Awesome design , by the way .

Look it up , google it our beetle looks Fucking awesome . But then again , that was more so my Childhood impression of him .

Nowadays I'm thinking like , okay , he's looking a little extra late , still look cool , though , but anyways , during the robot cup because he has shit going on he had numerous supporting characters feeling for him during the matches using their own meta bot Remember Kitshow .

No shock , that , no suspicious thing when Japan's number one meta fighter comes in different shapes and sizes . I mean , like you would think that with space meta fighter X .

How he usually appears is like , okay , he's so fairly tall man , but next thing , you know , it's like , okay , he has red hair and boobs now , or oh , he's now like a brunette with boobs now , or , you know , it's always someone different and like the crowd is at like nothing's happening . I don't , I don't fucking know , I don't fucking know y'all .

Anyways , let's talk about Rokushou , the mysterious rogue meta bot equipped with wisdom blade , light , meta parts and a rare meta himself . Okay , my bad , um , I don't know why my headset went out like that , but okay , rokushou , mysterious rogue meta bot equipped with wisdom blade , light , meta parts and a rare meta himself .

Rokushou also utilizes the meta force and a icky and his friends in the downfall of the robo robo gang after the death of his operator , dr Hushi . Rokushou is like a proper rival to meta b , a meta bot that meta b can learn from while I aspire to defeat in battle .

Samantha , sloan and Spike are apparently the top dogs at icky and Erika school , but also the bullies at the same time . And ? But whenever a tougher gang comes along like whether it was , though , like rocker punk gang , or maybe those ankle biters is like whenever a stronger gang shows up they always bend the knee shamelessly for them .

In a way , how I feel about Samantha is the same inside feel by Erika . You know , like she got that tomboy energy , but she can also be like kind of girlish when she wants to be the exception . That Erika doesn't pick on others and doesn't act out self interest per se like not always , though it's almost like . Imagine if Erika was a shittier person .

That's how I would subscribe , describe Samantha otherwise . Samantha is just another tomboy top with a soft side . Sloan is Sloan , just kind of there . He would be like the strongest violent type , but not that silent and does a little bit strong either . Now Spike , oh my god , spike . Spike is the more of the sniveling weasel for Samantha .

He gives me random vibes from recess you know that cartoon and he's the most shameless of the three .

Like , although he's a member of the screws , his incompetence is very noticeable , especially when he neglected the nature of meta bots by having a monkey type metal for his meta by Cyan dog , who's later named Crosser dog and monkey meta type metals are best for grappling meta parts , but spikes meta bot is equipped for shooting , which is considered the culprit to

spikes losing streak . So you think Spike will learn from his failures , but as far as I remember he doesn't . He's like , okay , you know how it's always sunny in Philadelphia is like an anti sitcom . Imagine an anti sitcom as a person that spike . That spike , or at least his development , isn't apparent to me , or not ? That doesn't pop out really .

That to me , like maybe he have a little better relationship with crosser dog , but outside of that he's still Spike , but collectively the screws are just a bunch of punks to our mention the week , until a bigger fish makes an appearance and then they become unlikely allies sometimes . Now let's get to the super rich kids .

I kinda miss when Frank Ocean made shit . Like , is he still making shit ? Yes , the super rich kids , karin , karen , excuse me , you know Japanese English . Like I Grew up watching the English version , the English dub . So they pronounce the Karen .

So Karen and Koji , they're attended this huge ads private Academy . I'm like bro , the inside that category , bro , I all those stairs and shit . A little like a Castle on top of a castle , on top of a mansion . No , no , no , I got that backwards .

It's more like a mansion on top of a castle , on top of another cast on top of a bigger castle is like Imagine , like those tiered cakes , but in castle form , but it's an actual fucking castle . That's the whole Academy . That's how fucking ridiculously big this shit is . It's like If you watch the great gasp , you saw gaspies mansion .

It would make gaspies mansion look like an apartment , like a regular apartment , I shh . Anyways , karen and Koji are friends with Iki and Erika , but it's more like a rivalry between Iki and Koji .

While Karen is actually friends with Erika , iki and Koji got this thing to where they're trying to win over the love and affection of Karen , the sweet , empathetic princess type . While Karen is a refreshingly humble about her fortune and her connection to dr Aki as her uncle , koji is more of the stereotypical rich kid that's Conta sending to the common folk .

He's like that type of kid that will look at public school kids like dirty riffraff With no remorse to tell you so . He's like Gary oh to Iki's ass capture , except Gary has multiple girls on his dick , while Koji can't even get Karen to look at him in other romantic interests .

On one hand it would have been great if Iki and Karen became a couple , but hindsight I wouldn't argue against coupling Iki and Erika and Karen and Koji together . I mean , we know we want the underdog to get the girl out of his league . Well , let's date to the reality , people . Most of the time you don't see shit like that in real life .

Yeah , our media wants you to believe that you know what . I'm gonna save that for energy , for zone after hours . Whenever we do that , we're gonna have that on patreon , ladies and gentlemen . So subscribe to the patreon if you want my uncut opinions . Also , I like how Koji takes Iki down a peg when it comes to that hubris . Our main character has .

Confidence is one thing , but Iki's lack of experience was his downfall at times and must perceive some humility . So it's good to have a character like Koji to remind about a yo like , you're not exactly hot shit . So , yeah , there's a reason why cause he ranked number two for the road row battle cup and Iki barely squeaked at the third .

Now here's a character that , like even less than it , rent our . Okay , if Karen is the Daphne Blake of the Metabots universe , rent a road is like scrappy dude . Yeah , scrappy dude was dry , humping on Daphne's leg . Rent a road is like this ramp functions shorty with an updated KVT type meta box named canteraw . It's like imagine Metabee but more Block .

He looks like a tank , but not that bulky is like . For some reason it feels like canteraw was like the prototype to meta bees , like Metabee just looks better aesthetically in my opinion . But again , my opinion .

I almost forgot about him as I was working on this review and I remember that I wanted to wipe him from my memory in the worst way possible because I just think they served as another rival to Iki and Kodi , except that his smaller stature Gives him the edge as far as car and coddling him . So it's like Karen .

I Don't think she had any romantic interest in any of the boys by the same time . It's almost like a renter , or you're a silk Q and then rentals like , yeah , wearing you down , girl , I'm wearing you down , and that's not really . He's like you're a short kid , see , if anything . You're like a little brother to him , you're like a little brother to her .

All right , the rubber robot game . All right , I want to be fair . Another Pokemon represent five , four , three , two , one . So the rubber robots are kind of like the team rocket of this universe , except that the notable members doesn't have tunnel vision for just Metabees metal , but all rare metals for that Unclear path for world domination .

Also , they don't overstate their welcome throughout the series . It's like the occasional menaces if you will , you have sea slug . He later get this girlfriend , miscavair , but she also goes by mr Fish up on joining . But that's like much later into the series , like that's when you play doing some undercover work . That's like some Corporate grunt and song .

I think you like undercover in the middle by corporation and he was like he had this unintentional relationship with miss caviar . I was like , uh man , it's like . You know , it was just a mission man , I didn't expect to fall in love , bro , I think I'm sorry , but anyways , the sea slug . There is miss starfish , there's gill girl , shrimp lips and squit gut .

Um sea slug , gill girl , shrimp lips and squit guts are the recurring members we see taking orders from dr Armand or dr Medi-Evil . Um , the same man who crossed ruckusho's operator , dr Houshi , the sled core , was very anal about taking on the rubber over gang , especially after rumors of being involved with set criminals .

So they had to double , triple and quadruple down on the crackdown . Obviously it's dr Armand with the evil intentions , but the more prominent subordinates have new ones to their character respectively .

You'll see me watch the anime , where they're not exactly evil , but more like you can believe in their redemption and repentance from a crime because they're more like and more employees that are being treated . He was like how can I put this ? Yeah , they say they're evil guys Like well , I'm like I'm not buying it .

I'm thinking more , it's more like a job to y'all . I'm not very convinced that y'all like evil , it's like y'all have more like nuisance is like okay , check this out . And the later Pokemon games . I'm telling you I'm on a roll with these Pokemon . Some of the teams aren't even traditional villains .

Some teams , like team skull and team star , are actually decent people when you hear them out . So , yeah , a bunch of bumbling idiots . The rubber robot gang is , but in theory , ones in their own right . Now these are two . I won't say they're like main characters or people that exactly . Well , they're like background characters .

But it's just something about these background characters Mr Referee and the Chick salesman . I want to mention these two . They deserve a brief talk about because Mr Referee and the Chick salesman like feet with the Chick salesman .

He speaks in a way that sounds ambiguously profound , but it's as we trying to pedal some big chicks to anyone that crossed his path , although he was just a guy trying to make some coin , he helped our cast of characters in times of confusion and in need of guidance , like a sage that only appears when you need them .

And then you have this godlike official from metabolic corp , mr Referee , who will appear to officiate all row battles , no matter where or when , in strange fashions at times . Mr Referee is not to be trifled with , because any rule breaking will come with consequences , because you know he will get mad .

And then next thing you know that meta bot that's like a satellite in space will shoot some sort of dart at people . Oh , that's like a paralyzing dart at anybody breaking the rules , like all that shit . Just , that's pretty much the characters I want to talk about .

Now , as far as animation and visual effects , there's like multiple animators who are legendary for their work on this anime . Well , not just this anime , but various other shows that you may be familiar with . In fact , I got some homework for y'all . Look up who animated meta bots and then look up what else they worked on . You might be surprised .

And for anime made in the 90s it still captured that nostalgic feeling Like I can't understand . You probably not that attracted to the art style if you're like , born way after this time , but I think meta boss is one of those franchises where you just had to be there , at the peak of its relevance .

As far as music and sound effects , to this day , I appreciate the proper uses of background music and sound effects at the right moment , whether the scene calls for a laugh , for a sentiment , to signify a dire situation . The MetaBots anime does a great job at giving the show no mixed signals to the audience .

And of course , I gotta mention how simplistically awesome the opening theme song is MetaBots . I'm sorry , I need a drink . I need to clear my throat because I probably can't really sing right now , but I got some additional notes and I'm going to close this out .

Admittedly , this review is mainly for the anime , but I can't conclude this episode without talking about the video game it was based on . I did play some of the Gameboy Advance games , like when they had MetaBots , metabee birds and Metabots Roku-so-birds . I did play those and I thought they were fun . With MetaBots Infinity it was worse than I remembered .

I mean , it's a terrible game that I still have fun with . It's mainly because I like MetaBots so much . I want to give MetaBots Infinity a chance , but in hindsight no . And sad thing is , not too long ago there was a pair of MetaBots games where apparently it's like MetaBots but with more fans there .

You know those anime to , where , for no reason at all , these girls just get their clothes ripped and I'm like , really , I feel like MetaBots is better than this . I feel like MetaBots is better than relying on fanservice to stay relevant . The potential is just there and I'll explain more when I get to the conclusion . I'm almost done .

But to answer a question , in my personal opinion , based on some people saying well , some people said this , like some reviewers , but is MetaBots really a Pokemon clone at this point ? To be fair , it is , but it's a good clone in its own right . In the aspect of simplistic plot , everything is centered around MetaBots .

The main focus is on these younger meta fighters coming of age . Main character wants to be the best of the best and collects meta parts , like Pokemon trainers collecting multiple Pokemon . To the credit of MetaBots at least , it's not low key , dark , like Pokemon , but it also doesn't have the fandom that Pokemon has either .

So I'm not saying like nothing wrong with Pokemon being low key , dark , but it's more like for a family friendly show . It's consistent on being family friendly . But if you play the Pokemon games and you was like , oh okay , oh , I read some of the description for some of these Pokemon and I'm like , is no one going to talk about this ?

But , in conclusion , I believe MetaBots have the potential to make a combat in today's time If the execution of it is proper

I remember writing a fanfiction of a MetaBots reboot or a sequel , where either the Animation would be more modern and the reboot would have some of the filler cut down upon , or make a sequel to the OG anime , where it could be about a different kid with a meta bot occasionally receiving a report from an older Ikitinrio and other legacy characters , while introducing

new characters , new meta bots , new opportunities to weave a compelling plot mixed with the comedy styling that helped the anime age lords that it could have . I want a reboot or a sequel to the anime and we need more meta bot video games .

If Digimon can balance back with a reboot , with Digimon Ghost game and new games , then I say meta bot deserves some love too . The direction of the anime felt a little aimless in my opinion , but I enjoyed the games as a kid and despite my feelings changing over time .

I didn't expect the series to be full mental alchemist levels of compelling , but with a longer run it might have rivaled Pokemon more . I give the anime a rating of 4 out of 5 stars . It was a product of its time and it was a product before its time . With that being said , that concludes my review on meta bots .
