Knight's & Magic: From Mecha Enthusiast to Talented Magician & Ingenious Designer of Giant Robots

But at least with this protagonist , his ingenuity and aptitude for piling these robots are tied to his previous life . As an enthusiast of Mecha isn't during in a way that can respect it . Therefore , I could be the past for this time around . And with that said , you know what ? Let's go on with the show . What's good nerd ?

It's Jet Blackestream with another episode of the Zone Podcast With me . Today . We got Cookie Guys , super Professor Tuck and the Mecha Manager himself , talos Gundam , with a review on Night's End Magic . I'm gonna have to further do . Let's go ahead and zone in on this one .

So we got this series , where he tells the story of a young Japanese man , software engineer in a hardcore mecha otaku , named Tsubasa Karada , who dies in a car accident and reincarnates as a young son , born into a noble family and blessed with exceptional magic abilities .

Ernestie Eru Eschevalier ending fantastical Frimvilla kingdom , this medieval magical world where the giant mechs called Silhouette Knights are used to fight against these horrifying creatures called demon beasts . By the way , I feel like y'all could have been a little bit more creative with the name . I like that . Just feel like a little cookie cutter , but whatever .

After witnessing his father pilot a Silhouette Knight to save his family from a scorpion type demon beast , ernestie recollected his memories from his past life and dedicated himself since then to fulfill his long time dream of building and piloting his own map . He then rolls into the Royal Highly Highly Academy Jesus Christ . His names .

This elite magic school ran by Ernestie's grandfather . What a coincidence . There the pilots of the Silhouette Knights , called Knightrunners , are being trained to bow Threads Pope from within and outside the kingdom . And my boy , ernestie , was crushing it at the academy to a point where he skipped to middle school .

After demonstrating that , he came strapped with that magical gun blade . And here's my thing Gun Blades , my favorite weapons . Like a book , I don't know what it is , but gun blades , that's just . Hmm , I might 3D print something . I just like the concept of it . I'm like I could just slash and dash and then just blow breeze .

But anyways , he came strapped to flex on the students and teachers , thanks to his friend Batson Terminian and his dwarf friends and father who helped to make the web , as thanks for Ernestie defending Batson from bullies .

And our endearing protagonist later teams up with his friends , twins , addy and Kid , with this goal to pilot Silhouette Knights and his own creations , something that has been unheard of for centuries . Now , at this point it's pretty much been nothing but up for our boy , because he was impressing the senior knightrunners royalty with his ingenious invention .

Yeah , there were political conflicts , battles , and he had to go back to the drawing board from time to time . But overall , ernestie just tended to find a way to show that he is in a league of his own when it comes to magic and mega , but there's been a way more dove into the light novels .

But that's why I say it's kind of criminal that at least give us like a little bit more season , like maybe like one or two more seasons of this . And now I'm like , okay , to be fair , it was going somewhere , but you're not going to see that if the demand is not there . But enough about that . That's pretty much my general feel of nice and magic .

I'm going to open it up to the round table how you feeling about this anime ?

But when I watched it , though , I was like I don't know , it's kind of good , just the drawing , the like fantastical side of things in the back . It was really dope . Now , granted , some of the writing was poor , but other than that you know what I mean the creation , the upgrades that Ernestine came up with , but it was really dope .

Can you honestly believe that this little kid is called the reaper ? It's like full men's alchemist . I'm sorry , but I'm like that's just so adorable . I'm like such an edgy title for a kid that just wouldn't think would even hurt a fly . But , like I said , with that fucking gunplay and shit , I'm like yeah , no , that's not the kid .

However , for those of us that know and if you are in the know , you know there are several kids out there that when you say their name to a mecha enthusiast such as myself , we look at you sideways like ain't , no fucking way , you ain't gonna out pilot that nigga , that motherfucking gonna kill you before you get to him .

So yeah , believe me , there are several angels of death in the mecha anime world that look like they about ten years old , just saying .

This one was just a write off novel . This was the writer was just writing things off . The light novel is going to significantly more than this story . The thing about it is is that I'm not gonna say the protagonist is pretty good , just more so the fact that the protagonist plays his role and then that's about it .

But he's not that purposeful overbearing we were supposed to get like . If you read the light novels , every character has a background story . Every character is fleshed out and he's not overpowered , because the thing about it is that , regardless , he's still a kid .

He has all the smarts into it , he can pilot very well , but he is still a kid , he's still unfortunate , just what it is , and that aspect . He has to have his team to back him up into stuff and he treats his team very well . Each of those team members are also very important to the story and the light novel as well too .

So that's something to kind of understand into that . This one when the , when it was made , the concept was very interesting .

The animation studio was like , oh , we love making mecha and we love making like epic fight scenes , which they did a fantastic job on , and so because of that , they wound up just saying , hey , we're going to get your story out there , but we're not going to be able to get it out there with the plot .

We're going to get it out there more so with the fighting stuff and also understanding this too , there's like only two girls throughout the whole anime with big breasts . So they don't get no like they don't really get a whole lot of shine like that . What's what may see them in one , maybe two episodes , it's about it out of a whole 13 episode .

So literally , you're going to have time to actually focus on the fight scenes and focus on the plot . And because it's less distraction , of course , you get a chance to feel like , hey , there's something more of the plot that it feels like it was rushed , like it's not dragging , but it feels like it was kind of just condensed together .

But it was supposed to be .

In this place there's no real like most of the science goes into the next , but there's not much science that was going into the magic until our main character really points it out into that . Remember the first design that he really emphasized that could really help out .

The next was that they were complaining that they couldn't use magic and their swords at the same time and he just came up with what most people was like Damn , that seems like the simplest fucking idea . How come we didn't think about that ? To just add fucking like magic , aren't like magic cannons on the back of the mix ?

That way you can still shoot magic and use the sword at the same time and it's like , and it's not difficult , you just add two other little gauges for the two arms . It's not like you have to heavily focus them , just have them shoot forward . You can make them shoot left or right .

He's like , ok , this seems like a big problem , but let's start small and then work big . Versus , they're working big , then kind of like progressing their way small , but because they're still so focused on big , it doesn't get that way . But yeah , so he does that a lot .

And then also like in the fact that he has training montages , like he wanted to be the greatest pilot and he didn't just hop in the suit and was like , oh my God , he's a natural , it's a great pilot stuff . He had to actually learn that shit . Like he helped build it , but it made a big difference when he was actually like piloting .

That made a huge difference . And he's like , ok , I need to actually practice and need to know what the hell it is that I'm doing .

But it's like the way the plot kind of with the pacing , it just kind of feels like he just steam rolling through everything .

To him , it feels like everyone else feels like he's breathing by it really quickly , but no , that's something he's passionate about . When you're passionate about something , you put that time and energy into it and everyone else is going to be like dang , you breezing through this real quick . How come I can't breathe Because you're not as passionate ?

It's like you make it look so easy but you don't understand the process . They took the athlete do it . So I'm like , yeah , it's like almost like saying that with experience you can make it look easy , but getting started , well , everybody has a journey .

So this particular anime , the anime I'm specifically saying that is the fact that it was focused more heavily on the max in the light novel . It actually focused a good balance between max and magic , and you don't see that so much here . Most of the magic that you see in this anime is very simple , elemental basis .

However , in the light novel , ernestine was able to even like , mix certain elements together to create new , different versions of tactics of magic that people didn't think about . Like the most tactical thing that you saw in magic in this anime wound up being the fight between the king and his grandson when they were fighting over who gets the pilot .

I think it was the gold lion um . Next suit that Ernestine built .

They could drop that spear and just bone rust his grandson . And then started grappling his ass . He was like , oh shit , I didn't even think about that , of course not . You're too heavily focused on weapons , this shit . And so his grandson had to think tactically at that point . He's like I got to fight my grandpa , like he's a great fucking pilot .

So when he's about to literally suplex his ass , he winds up using the magic the blast himself out of it .

And so , literally , in keeping in mind like that's the most tactical thing that you want to be seeing in the anime of someone using magic other than just , oh , I'm just shooting beams everywhere Cause remember , they have like a magic drive to have a reserve , magic fluids , like magic drive , and when that runs out , you don't have no more magic type of thing .

But the thing about it is is that Ernestine and the light novel , wound up going further , mixing more elements into those things together and started creating new not new magic , but more ideas of how magic could be used .

And it became a big thing when he wound up fighting against the other part , like when it became political , we was going against other kingdoms , cause fighting against the monsters wasn't as bad until they fought like monster queen . But so that's one thing I would say the anime got down a lot on , even though it winds up being called knights in magic .

They wanted to only focus on just the mecha , for the anime part of it , just to hype into that , because that was when it came out . Mecha was hyped at the time Like Gundam was like still top , was still one of the top tier , top 10 anime at the time as most popular , and so they were really trying to hype into that .

And so they wound up cutting down the magical elements into them , which I do feel very upset about , because there was a lot of tactical stuff that went into that . That kind of . I feel like this thing is just brought in a little bit more .

He reminds me of buddy from this one anime that we might review sometime . It's called a costume record of bastard magic .

But it's nice to have somebody who's able to focus on those little small elements to kind of help things grow together , and Ernestine was doing fantastic into that , the way he can still see the big picture . But he can understand . Here's some little elements that I'm going to focus on while y'all focus on bringing the big plan together .

That's why I kind of feel a little cathartic about this series , where that's that's kind of feel like our thing , going on to where it's specifically between me and Coco God suits , where I'm more of the big picture guy , even though there are some things where I would prefer to focus on this element , like the 3D printing part , and then the rest of y'all just ,

oh , excuse me , had like a gas bubble . I keep doing this on every fucking podcast Shit . Anyways , I prefer to focus on one or a few things and then let everybody else do their part .

But mostly I'm like the big picture guy and then I have , like some people as moral , like okay , I'm going to need y'all to look out for me as far as like the minute details , in case I'm skipping something , like something I'm not overlooking , or you know . So I kind of feel that , speaking of characters , I had something to say about the characters .

Well , even though in the light novels they expanded on them more like hell , like , for instance , ernest , I'm just going to go and say that .

So it's like their royalty , blah , blah , blah . So kind of point out like that . But in the anime , as far as like the one and only season , it just seemed like it was one of those series where it's mainly the protagonist show where , aside from the twins actually being runaways from this noble family , everyone else pretty much just build a role Like .

Ernestie is pretty much like the only character in my opinion . In my opinion , that captured my interest and it's clear that the world is wrapping around . His reactive agency to narrative . Looking at you , Eminence of Shadow .

This anime kind of made me realize that , hey , focus more on just like one , two kingdoms type of thing , like it's a world building , like world building has multiple kingdoms , multiple things like that , and it'll give you something like if you ever find yourself writing a story and you have to find yourself in like writer's block and you're like dang , it's because

you're only focusing on like these five characters and you're like well , what these five characters going to do next ? Well , how about you expand on some of the other characters ? Like expand on some other kingdoms , like come up with a whole new kingdom that never existed before and talk about how they might have created some type of little intertwined ?

You might want to finding a whole nother storyline that you're gonna focus on too .

It's like the world building helps out a lot in the story , because if you're with when , most things I know is that when a writer finds themselves having writers block , that's usually also the same time that the readers are , or the like , the people that are receiving that entertainment , the consumers , I'm gonna say that are getting bored as well too , and that

ties in heavily together . So it's like have something else to also focus on as well , to help out into that , and it doesn't have to be something completely different .

It just it can still be within the same story , but don't only just focus on those main characters , because you'll find yourself finding so many other fan favorite characters Like I'm just briefly mentioned , into this one , oh Two primary examples of characters who are supposed to be written off , who not , whether like written off as far as it was supposed to Die ,

or they were supposed to go a certain way and seem as a very unimportant character , but because fans were so heavily focused on to it , it completely changed a lot of the story because the writers had to make changes for their fan base

. And so two primary examples into that Vegeta from Dragon Ball Z and and Bakugo from my hero academia . Because , like in real retrospect , vegeta was supposed to die on Planet Namek and he was not supposed to come back . That was it .

He was supposed to be done , but because fans wanted him to have more redemption , because the only redemption he really got Was the fact that he finally got a chance to like not even so much apologized to Goku , but really kind of let him in saying I'm gonna have to trust you to handle this because I can't do anything , or that people was like he was starting

to get a redemption . Where's this full redemption ? We need that . And now we still have a Jida all the way in a super and now upcoming Dragon Ball Diamond .

And then from my hero , academia I'm not gonna go into spoilers because it has not come out in the anime yet and people haven't seen it yet but in the manga , readers who know Bakugo originally was supposed to be written off as a villain . In fact , the writer himself said that he absolutely hated Bakugo .

He specifically wrote Bakugo to be an asshole Because he was going to become a villain right off the bat , like within the first , like several chapters of the manga . But before the anime , before it wound up getting fully adapted into an anime , the manga readers was like yo , we love Bakugo , we need more of him .

He's gonna be a great hero because people gonna think that he's a villain . But watch him like step up and show out when it becomes climactic and I'm only gonna say that's some heavy foreshadowing , so what happens in the manga , but that's all I'm gonna say . I'm not gonna score shit . But for real , it's like those are two primary examples into that .

So it's like having other characters makes a big difference and so when you're watching even nicer magic , your focus so much on the , the people who re-written , who rewrote the story for the anime , because it wasn't the writer that did this . There was a higher team that rewrote the story for the anime .

He improved it , kind of just said , yeah , that's fine to go along , but he was not the one that wrote the anime . So the thing about it is is that they focus so heavily on the main character that even they were rewriting the story . It became very obvious the writer did not want to focus only on him , it was other people .

This was a team of mech runner . He was a team of runners is the team that worked things together . He could not do this by himself . He had his team there to back him up , but they wrote that out , and so it's like it's one of those things that this one was kind of reversed in this aspect .

They thought the fans would not want to know about these other people , but here we are .

We got whole , entirely robbed , because if you go and you read the story , oh my god , there's so much more to this . But then you watch the anime , what happened ? Where's the rest of it , bro ? No , so you just gonna dangle the carrot in my face and then just be like and that's it .

All right , we'll just start it right here and then we're gonna go a little bit with it and as soon as you find out that who do it soon on Gonta finds out who the red man is in of the show , go home .

I have a ton of stories I am working on one right now that I know for a fact . If I was to not get it animated , people , if I will correction , if I was to get it animated and they and they hit me with a , I smell , one season , 12 episodes , they're gonna be mad . I'd be mad for them Because there's too many of them out there .

There's too many of them out there where it's just like one season , 12 episodes , and and you just like bruh , bruh , thanks , I know you . I know you didn't know you didn't just leave me like this . I know you didn't .

Based on today , let's say I think I'm taking a guess , I don't remember exactly how many it's like six or seven Particular anime only covered like the first two books , like that's literally .

Like you know , on the West Coast is very difficult to get these light novels and get them translated . I can't .

I still think that not only do we need like A reboot of dead man wonderland but I don't know what the fuck y'all gonna do but I know one damn thing how come bringing all these Continuations of shows that we don't give a shit about ?

I know the fuck I said and I said what the fuck I said , because let me explain to you been true for this and truth when it's , that if you sit here and say no , it has not dropped off , it ain't ever since gojo ass , goddamn , got locked up . Motherfuckers like ooh , got them salt bay . Number two is Impergatory . We can't do shit . Don't get me started .

There are crap , ton of fucking mechas out there .

You have a character that calls himself the fucking reaper and literally is a goddamn 10 year old , is a fucking 10 year old . I'm not gonna say his actual age , I don't know . Fuck , I mean , this bitch is a 10 year old . Don't know sexual indie windows when they play right Put like that .

He don't know sexual indie windows when they drop right in front of him . He don't know that a girl fucking likes that bitch dance . But all but you put him into fucking battle , you drop him into battle and that motherfucker is the next

, is the next . Goddamn the loose Shoot .

You only heard of two kingdoms throughout this whole show . Like oh , and there's literally like six kingdoms in this entire world , but you only hear about two of them . That's , that's it .

Because when you drop something , when you drop something in , sometimes you're hoping you get the right fans , it reaches the right people , and sometimes it might take a minute before it reaches the right people .

And the fact that , ok , hori Koshi not liking Bakugo , ok , that's not new to me , but that's also surprising . I didn't think that was the case , but I'm not surprised because you know you have Toriyama with how he feels about Vegeta , so nothing new .

But my point being is that the fact that he got this With this feedback about how , oh , people actually like Bakugo , I'm like , if I was him , I would give those fans like some serious side . I like what the fuck ? Like weird as they are . I don't know , I don't know the different graphic really , but I don't know , maybe some people like the whole .

Oh well , yeah , he might be a bully , he might be kind of like those bad boy boys , but you know he has potential , we can fix it .

Because everybody , because everybody is rolling the dice right now against Deco , even being remotely good ever again as far as it goes and concerns looky looky . Deco is going to .

Deco is going to literally destroy big , bad , evil guy , but in the process , he's going to literally look at everybody else and be like I'm tired of the way the heroes are and just going about it . So all the class one eight goes and becomes villains for the sake of him .

The only one that doesn't become a villain is Bakugo , because Bakugo decides that , hey , he needs to be in order for him to be there for his friend . In the end , he's going to just be the person that's always against him .

It's just like the CGI and 2D animations that they did was fantastic , especially for the time that it was like it came out before those other things and you still did fantastic on how I did it . No , you don't need to redo any of that . Yeah , like I agree , like we do a full agree . They continue on like you have it .

This studio animation has already proved that they can do this shit . They do it fantastically . Just get more in that expansion of the story . Like let's just keep things going in the good way . Like , just give us more . But I don't know . Like , in our honesty , I just don't feel that it will happen . Like I'm what to do .

I'm so sorry because this right here , nice and magic , is one of those shows that was literally a side show and that outclass the main show . So there , in my going back to what Tuck has just said earlier , hey , why is it that y'all got some of these shows out here that really should have a high A ?

Oh I really should be not as much worked on as some of these other ones .

That motherfucking hell is supposed to get out there and keep going . That's the one of the ones I'm hoping you keep going with . Don't fucking fall to look at you . You're fucking up already . You fucking with the church's money already . That's what it does .

However , yoshi P came on and said you know what ? I can't let it die like this . He redid it 2.0 only for one . God damn , it was great Glorious . So , so pick up your shows . Don't leave them in the trash . Don't let your kids sit outside and play in the dirt for nothing . Go , let them be great , because y'all got great shit it shows .

Y'all got great writers . Y'all have great writers on your team . Ain't no way in the fuck I'm leaving all these shows at one season Because you just like . We got a lot on our plate . Take your time when you know you're fixing to do one is going to go for this set of mount , alright , cool . Hey , we're going to give y'all this season . You'll be patient .

We're , while we're doing this season , we're going to work on getting you a couple of other seasons out of something else . We're going to rotate them . That way they come in an order , so that way y'all will know . Honestly , I don't know how I do it , I just get some tells rolled up somehow .

But you telling me that y'all just man . You can't fumble the ball like this .

Just when we were talking about Ernestie , where his passion for being a night runner and a designer for these silhouette nights it rekindles my interest in Mecca , because maybe one day I'll end up evolving my skillset in order to get into the business of making my own machinations with additive manufacturing fancy way of saying 3D printing and based on a past passion

of mine to where in childhood , I always thought , you know , it would be cool if I had like a whole team of meta bars . You know how meta bars is pretty much a Pokemon clone . So , just have like a team of meta bars , like , just like , have like , um , you know , garage of them and just have no running around . Who knows if you could do really .

But I just there's just something about this anime , well , this series , to where I'm like , yeah , like it's just criminal how some of that hat potential just dropped the ball on it . So , um , I got anything else you want to add on to nice and magic specifically .

I like , kind of like that , even though you know it's a fictional story , but the way they try to explain how the night runners work , you know , like they try to do the upgrades , where at one point there was this part where , oh , let's you , let's kind of imitate the human muscular system in the mix , where essentially we get these wires and kind of intertwine

them kind of like the muscles in our bodies and it's like what kind of function like that , so kind of increase their efficiency and all that . And I was like yes , yes , of course . Let me write that down real quick . There was a lot of scientific things Okay .

And in this one is like a lot of people love mecha anime but don't really I'm not majorly into it as far as like how do they work and things like that , like I'm not . It's like I like mecha anime but I'm not really into like mechanics and building stuff like that .

And this one is definitely for those who are like it's so much expansion , so much discussion into that . And so it's really great to have .

But even then , I believe Ernest , he pretty much steamrolled through the store even though he did earn it . But mostly it's more like he didn't have to like really struggle that hard , whereas like it didn't take him that long to like , you know , kind of pick things up and kind of figure things out .

And it's disappointed that this series didn't get that much attention , maybe because mecha and east cut is getting like skipped over in recent times , because you know , with mecha it's wild how there's like way less mecha fans .

So I'm really glad y'all , I'm really glad that y'all friends of mine , because I'm like bro , it's just sad how I'm like I don't find that meeting mecha enthusiasts that these days . Excuse me , I'm kind of .

So if I'm comparing it to that on a scale of five , then I would give it like a two , but if I'm comparing it like isolating it by itself , I'll probably give it about a 3.7 out of five . It really gave me that .

It resonated and gave me that feeling If you can recall because y'all watch so much anime that feeling when you first started watching anime or certain shows . So just give me that nostalgia feeling . That's what it really gave me when I watched it . It made me actually want to watch mecha anime that you know . I don't know any other good one .

I would recommend this anime as part of the what I like to call the mecha anime starter pack , where , you know , I would just recommend some anime shows that I would , you know , kind of ease people into it .

Like I want to suggest Mobile Suit Gundam right out of the way , because , boy , let me tell you , if you're going to get into Mobile Suit Gundam , you better strap in , because there's a lot Like almost every season is at least 50 episodes .

So I'm like saying , okay , let's save that to once you get a taste for mecha anime and let me start you off with something like , say , girl Laganne , evangelion , code Geass , full Metal , panic , reca , seven , eighty six , maybe big O you know a lot of mech anime that I want to mention , but at least with those seven , including nice and magic , it'll be much

easier to get into it . Like mobile suit gun was more like all in franchise , where you guys leave clear to start a pack first if you're , if you never Watch the mobile suit gun before .

That being said , if you are just getting into Gundam or you just getting to make an anime , this is one of the ones I would recommend . Why ? Because a lot of people are not ready for what truly is mecha .

Mecha is that genre that they tell you when you go into it , don't , don't , don't , get attached to too many people , because yeah , they may not , they may not be there the next episode or the episode after the pin .

They both don't really do that as much , but it pushes your heart strings a little .

It still was pretty easy to kind of move along with it until I Understood what was really in those light novels and how much was completely cut out and how much the story was robbed Still want to being good . So I still keep it into the higher scale three . Well , you can count that higher is really medium .

But understanding into that aspect because I also have to rate it as fantasy club president In the fact that there is no real fantasy into this one of things that , yeah , this is also important too . There is also a lot more detail into these demon beasts as well . Like I know , we kind of know we kind of did a quick roast on to a JB here .

The quick roast on to it Could have came up with a better name into it and stuff . There was a better name in a light novel Apparently don't exactly know what is because I can't translate it , but there was a better name in a light novel and apparently also there was a reason that these demon beings were attacking .

So there was actually a whole fantasy world that was built in light novels , along with more political aspects as well too . So , understanding with how much is actually robbed from the light novels into this anime , I had to significantly drop that score to a three . I guess you know good enough to that point , but that's fair .

I gave it that , that bonus extra , but then I gave the four a generous four because I included them light novel , as far as the whole franchise like I counted .

Because the anime was so sure I felt like only fair that if you saw the light novel , okay , you might bump that score up a little bit , but other than that it would be like a solid three , if I'm not being generous with the whole and well , at least it kind of appeals to people who already have an interest in mecha .

But I also getting no , this was a mix of mecha and fantasy was how this was written . It was actually a great supposed to be a great balance of both , from what I'm understanding , from my understanding of the light novels .

So I have to be more critical in that aspect as fancy club president , because you're telling me you robbed the fantasy out of it and I'm like , excuse me , mecha and magic , and the only magic we got is just like some damn sci-fi lasers , like , okay , come on , that's supposed to be more there , like , come on .

So I have to rate heavily on the fantasy side for me , just got to and but , understanding , I still like mecha . I'm even going as far as into this . It may not be an anime recommendation per se as a starter pack , but if you also like comedy with some anime as what like comedy with mecha as well too . I'd say , watch megas XLR .

It's it's kind of short , but at the same time as there's no main story , there's a little storyline to follow , but it doesn't have the focus on that . It's just a bunch of wacky adventures with a giant robot , and that just it's pretty awesome in itself too Is a way kind of give you an idea of like hey , so giant robots could do this and this and this .

Yes , they absolutely can't . There you go . But that's all that I got to say . So I am pretty much done on for that one for me .

Definitely yes , yeah , I'm thinking something like that was like okay , y'all , y'all didn't have like passing interest , like y'all never watch toys or some shit , like okay , you know .
