Announcements:

Hello WVJH!  I’m ________ and here’s the news you need to know today!

Our top story today is:  Activities and school work from Home

We’ve reached two weeks of being out of school and families have been quarantined for almost one week.  What are you doing to pass the time?   What’s your schedule look like?  Do you follow a schedule or just go with the flow?  Use the voice recorder on your cellphone or chromebook to record what you’re doing during the quarantine and share it with delozierr@wvsd208.org.  You just might hear yourself on this podcast.

Updates on Learning from Home

With the Yakima County Stay at Home order in effect for an indefinite amount of time, learning from home is going to be the new reality for teachers and students through at least April 24th.  Here are some items you need to know:

  • Students in courses that are eligible for high school credit will be learning new material beginning on Monday.
  • The schools are closed, so papers cannot be dropped off at school buildings.  Please check with your teacher about how to submit work.
  • Parent Conferences will be replaced by the weekly communication with students.  If you or your parents would like to still have a conference with a teacher, you’ll need to make arrangements with the teacher to do this remotely through a virtual platform like Zoom.
  • Students should be on iReady everyday for Language Arts and Math.
  • Spring break is still going to happen from April 6th through the 10th.

If you haven’t been in contact with your teacher, please send him or her an email today.  All students should be checking their Google classrooms and school email every day.  Please make sure you are staying connected and doing school work.  Remember, this isn’t summer vacation.

Breakfast and lunch distribution sites to be downsized:    Today, from 10:30 until noon, is the last day of daily breakfast and lunch distribution.  Beginning tomorrow, child nutrition will provide kids with 5-days of meals covering both breakfast and lunch.  Children can pick up all 5 days of meals at the JH parking lot from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM on Friday, March 27.  Just a reminder that children must be present to receive meals.

The adjustments to meal service have been made in order to reduce in-person contact and travel burdens to families.  Additional updates will be communicated through SKYWARD. Thank you for your continued patience as we work through obstacles as they arise.

At-home spirit Week:  The West Valley School District is having an at-home spirit week and today is Sports Day!  Post pictures and videos of yourself or other family members wearing favorite sports gear or doing some of your favorite sports to WVJH social media using the hashtag #WVathomespirit.  Tomorrow is the last day of spirit week: School colors day--post pictures of you wearing the school colors!

Don’t forget to tag your posts with #WVathomespirit

The WV District Activity Coordinators have been working to plan activities to keep students involved during the school closure.  Next week, there’s going to be a scavenger hunt...stay tuned.
