Episode description

Are you someone who likes to have a plan?

Maybe in your house or office, everything has its place and order reigns supreme. You chart out the route you take on vacation, knowing every food and gas stop you'll take along the way.

You may be a plotter. The benefits of plotting - writing a book outline - are many, but on this episode I highlight just a few.

Or maybe you love working with a blank canvas.

You think the best adventures are those that are unstructured, unplanned.

Does the idea of a writing outline make you feel trapped

Maybe you should forego the outline altogether.

Personally, I love having a sense of freedom.

My WIP novel is set in a physical place that, for me, represents ultimate freedom.

Flowing rivers, mountain air, bright sunshine.

Yes, yes, and yes.

Give me a blank canvas, an empty calendar, an open road and a full tank of gas. For me, few things are more exhilarating than setting out on an uncharted path.

And that's how I write, too.

But which approach is right for you?

On this episode I discuss some of the benefits (and pitfalls) of each approach.
