Garth Davis, MD, is the medical director of the Davis Clinic at the Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He is also boarded in medical management of obesity. Dr. Davis is the author of two books: Proteinaholic: How Our Obsession with Meat Is Killing Us and The Expert’s Guide to Weight-Loss Surgery. Having spent 17 years in the field of surgical and medical weight management, Dr. Davis is a recognized expert in initial bariatric procedures as well as revisional bariatric surgery, and he is frequently asked to give lectures to both patient and physician audiences.

Dr. Davis starred on the hit TLC show Big Medicine and appeared in recent documentary What The Health.

In this interview Dr. Davis breaks down the science behind the most popular American macronutrient - protein. He explains what protein is and the role it plays in both - health and disease. Dr. Davis elaborates on the differences between animal and plant protein sources, and clears confusion about the popular myths about daily intake requirements and the effect that animal protein has on our bodies.
