Episode description

Former President Donald Trump was asked in a bizarre interview if he was uniquely protected by a higher power to fight against the court cases that "were made to destroy" him. Steve Schmidt says that the line of questioning was meant to grow Trump's religious fanatic voters.

Speaker 1

There is a trick that has been used since time immemorial by those who aspire to power, by those who aspire to control. It is to assert the hand of God as their gode. It is to proclaim that they speak the word of God. And wherever this has existed, wherever it has flourished, wherever man has said I am God and my word is his law, is where evil reigns. There are two hundred and thirty four days remaining until the American people decide who will be the next commander

in chief. It is March fifteenth, twenty twenty four. Donald Trump may sit atop the magapyramid, but he didn't get there alone. His enterprise to take political power requires assistance and help. His effort is fueled by grievance and victimization, and it's also fueled by cynicism. Trump is supported by people he defeated and insulted and insulted their wives and parents, and who knows what else. What Donald Trump is constructed

is a community of self interest. He excuses people and wipes away their responsibilities by making grievance and victimization worthy. He's profoundly dishonest, but his dishonesty is carried as a business by businesses like Newsmacs who put rotten people like Greg Kelly on the air. I don't use the term rat and people likely, and it's not said because Greg Kelly disagrees with me politically. Greg Kelly was a lieutenant colonel in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. Greg Kelly

flew off of aircraft carriers. But that's not how we tell what's in Greg Kelly's heart. It's not how we measure his character. What is it that Greg Kelly has become at Newsmax? And what is Newsmax? Is it normal in American life to have a station that monetizes billions of dollars by lying millions of times to thousands of people over and over again. It is unique, to say the least. But it should be understood that no t talitan effort, no autocratic cause, can gain lift off without propaganda.

Once it becomes impossible to tell the lie from the truth, where that space where the truth and the lie meet becomes murky and contested, This is the place from which autocracy emerges. Because democracy requires truth, because it's built on elemental truths, foundational truths about the dignity of the human being. There is a trick that has been used since time immemorial by those who aspire to power, by those who aspire to control. It is to assert the hand of

God as their guide. It is to proclaim that they speak the word of God. And wherever this has existed, wherever it has flourished, wherever man has said I am God and my word is his law, is where evil reigns. Whether it is in Iran, whether it is in Saudi Arabia. No matter where man declares I am above the law, there is trouble. There is struggle. Wherever the dogma of control is asserted, evil is quickly at hand. It's tough

to know with someone like Greg Kelly is thinking. We know that he lied about the outcome of an election. We know that he has cheered sedition. We know that he welcomes political instability, that he has become a nihilist, a very particular type of vandal in the American media for this moment in time. But let's zooming closer. Let's look at this. The inauthenticity has studied performative earnestness. Let's

watch this man wind up with the question. The question for Trump is he touched by the hand of God. But before we get into it, let's just freeze it there for a moment. Let's understand who this person is. Let's understand the venom in his heart by examining a comment he made in twenty twenty one, he said service was great, but being in the military could also be a pain. Well, anybody's watched Mash understands that. But the pain he was talking about wasn't the monotony of routine.

It was something else. He was nostalgic. In twenty twenty one, something historic happened in America. General Lloyd Austin became Secretary Lloyd Austin. He became the first black secretary of Defense in American history. And Greg Kelly said, morale was so much higher back when I was flying off of aircraft carriers because at least back then we knew we had a white secretary of Defense. That racism is as pure

and undistilled as it can possibly get. It is the definition of white nationalism, Christian nationalism, which holds as a matter of dogma all the way back to Vice President Alexander Stevens of the Confederacy's Cornerstone speech that one race is superior to another. That race is the white race, and the political agenda that flows from it is one of dogma, one of control, and one of subjugation.

Speaker 2

Everything can be reduced to right and wrong. Make no mistake about it, we are talking about christianizing.

Speaker 3

Christian nationalism has been a political tool for centuries and it has.

Speaker 1

Nothing to do with Christianity.

Speaker 3

Power and politics Goose to enshrine Christian identity as the law of the land.

Speaker 4

To reclaim the United States for gology.

Speaker 1

So the question that Greg Kelly is asking about whether Trump is touched by the hand of God, to Trump is not an indeliberate one. It's about taking political power. It's about creating a level of deeper fanaticism amongst fervent people.

Speaker 4

These cases were designed to destroy you, yes, and they've helped you and some of us. Actually, we see I know my audience in me too, we see that you're protected, maybe even by the hand of God. Has that ever crossed your mind? I mean, the idea that these indictments could have been a benefit to you politically.

Speaker 1

Understand this because Trump's political strategy is utterly clear in this moment. He seeks to dsifies support amongst his most fanatical and committed followers. We'll talk about them in a second, and rely on the indifference of scores of millions of Americans who are dissatisfied with the choice inherent in the pick between eighty one year old Joe Biden and seventy seven year old Trump. Within the number of the seventy percent who say we don't like this choice is a

fertile ground for the growth of apathy and indifference. And it is fanaticism plus in difference that will elect Donald Trump the forty seventh President of the United States of America if the Biden campaign fails to build and maintain a majority coalition built on a foundation of disagreement but deep loyalty to an idea and the cause of the idea expressed in patriotism to the United States of America, mankind's last best hope. Let's watch, though, Donald Trump answer a question.

Speaker 3

Well, I've watched people over the years, politicians get indicted, and the first thing they do is go to the microphone and say, I'll be leaving office now, and i will fight for my name and my reputation, and I'll be going back home to my family. You know they leave for a lot of different reasons, but nobody's ever been hit like me, and it has never been anything like this. Look, my numbers are highest. Nobody's ever seen

numbers like this. I believe that if this didn't happen, perhaps they miscalculated, And perhaps they haven't, because don't forget, it's not over yet. But there is some kind of a protective force because you look at what I've been hit with. These are horrible people, these are corrupt.

Speaker 1

Yeah, let's understand something. Anytime that question is asked in the way it was just asked, there's trouble ahead. There's danger ahead, that type of idolatry, that type of cynicism, that type of manipulation. Well, it's above and beyond. And let's just say the places where it flourishes is where bad, bad things happen to free people always. But who are these apostles and messengers who lay hands on Trump and do so in the name of God, not praying for understanding,

not praying for empathy, but demanding power and money. Who are they? People like Benny hen and Pastor Paula. Does any sentient person who cares about the future, cares about the society where their kids grow up. Does anybody in their right mind believe these people are on your side, that Greg Kelly is on your side. Greg Kelly's a racist in an anchorchair, venerating Donald Trump like the golden calf. He's lathering him with love because he sees Trump as

a vessel for Greg Kelly's ambitions and power. Greg Kelly loves being on TV, and he found something he's good at on TV, which is being the tip of this spear for a nasty, vicious ideology that says one group of Americans is less than the other, and it can be humiliated, it can be dominated, it can be controlled because what is right is based on who is strong, and within this world there is no one stronger than

God's true messenger. The Queen's Hustler, indicted on ninety one felony counts, convicted by a jury and a civil action of raping a woman and then defaming her. A despicable and low man who ripped off every contractor he was ever in business with, who ripped off students at a fake university, A man who ran fake charities, A scoundrel of the highest order. This man is not America's savior, nor is he God's messenger. What he is is like this man, but unlike Jim Jones, who poisons a thousand people,

Donald Trump is attempting to poison an entire nation. And a lot of America is drinking that poison. They drink that poison hoping it will kill the other half of the country. This is the madness, in the insanity that has been unleashed by these people in America. The law is supreme, the Constitution is supreme. Freedom is supreme. Not this madness, not this dogma, And no, Greg Kelly, Donald Trump is not touched by God. His struggles are not

imposed by a deity. They are the consequences of the actions and the lawlessness of a reckless man who is depraved, to say the least. At the core of all of this. Always there is no greater victim than Trump.

Speaker 3

Over the years, I love history, I study history, and I was always told that Andrew Jackson as the president, was treated the absolute worst. He who was just really lambasted. And I heard Abraham Lincoln was second, but he was in I think called the Civil War, So you can understand that. I look now, even last night, I was saying it. I said, there's no I don't care Andrew Jackson or anybody else, nobody history. When you think of the fake things, nobody's been treated like Trump in terms

of badly. Russia, Russia, Russia, Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine. Everything was a scam. And it literally starts the new one. As you win one, you start the other. Impeachment hoax number one, impeachment hoax number two, all hoaxes and scams. And I said, if they ever devoted their time to making America great again, it would be a lot easier. Some people say, sir, how do you get out of bed in the morning. It's a war. We're fighting some very bad people.

Speaker 1

The one thing we should all agree on is that Trump could barely read. It's evidenced every time he steps in front of a teleprompter and attempts to do so. He knows nothing about the history of the country. Nothing. He finds stories and attaches himself as part of them, where he finds the opportunity to touch grievance. So Donald Trump believes no one's had it worse. Always the martyr

Christ like even Well. Tell that to all the American presidents who were shot and assassinated, And to all the ones who served the country without trying to burn it down under great pressure, great duress, who didn't bend, who didn't break, who didn't care about the moment, didn't care how much they could take, didn't care about power, cared about continuity, cared about the future, cared about Americans not born yet a hundred years into it. That's the difference

between Trump and all of his predecessors. Greg Kelly is a rotten messenger for a tremendous demagogue. It's the duty of every American citizen to be able to see the demagogue coming. They are the cancer that exists within every republic that has ever been. They will ultimately be produced by the system, and the antibody to it, the antidote to it is an informed citizen who understands a republic

is a bundle of ideas. In the capacity of man to proclaim figality to an idea while acting in the opposite manner and doing evil has existed since the first instance that history was recorded, and it should be remembered. No America, it's not normal when television anchors, even on far right stations, ask the presidential nominee who's a former president, and if he's touched by God because of all of the rape allegations, think about it. Isn't it time to

wake up and get involved before it's too late. This is today's Warning. I hope you'll consider it. Thank you for listening to my political commentary. If you like what you heard today, please also consider subscribing to The Warning daily newsletter on substack.
