It is the third of July twenty twenty four. There are one hundred and twenty four days to go until the last votes are cast in the US presidential election in November. Forty seven days remain until the Democratic National Convention. This is the warning. The crisis that is facing the Democratic Party is unprecedented in the modern history of American politics. What we are seeing is something that is a worst case scenario playing out. But thankfully for Democrats, there is
still time to fix it. In the end, the only thing that matters is defeating Donald Trump. And the reality is that President Biden sometime within the next week is highly likely to withdraw from the race. Because his position is cracking. More and more Democrats are getting ready to call for him to step aside, to announce his political
retirement to open up the Democratic National Convention. If that happens, it will be one of the most fascinating, incandescently exciting things that any of us have ever seen in American politics. What it means is the delegates at the Democratic National Convention will choose the nominee. They will be released from their obligation on the first ballot to vote for President Biden.
Now there are some people like Jim Clyburn, who is one of the architects of the delusion and the denialism around President Biden, who has made clear that if it's not his guy Biden, then it will be Vice President Harris nonsense. The reality is that we don't live in a monarchy and between the two parts, if one of them were to be a monarchist party, it's not the Democratic Party. So this idea that there will be an anointment, a laying of hands on that Joe Biden picks that
James Clyburn picks wrong. They may have influence, they may be power brokers, but in the end it is the delegates who will choose, and they will choose from among a small group of candidates. Governors who are next generation Democrats who will have an opportunity to stand before the delegates and speak lay a vision out. Gretchen Whitmer, Wes Moore, Governor Andy Bursheer. All of these people should be considered. The only thing that matters is constructing a ticket that
can win. Understand something else, and this is important strategically to grasp politics. The goal is to be a small target, somebody who is not famous yet very accomplished, incredibly able, smart, a combat veteran like Governor Wes Moore. That person who is not known does not carry a lot of baggage. They will be able to take the fight to Trump.
I've said something over and over and over again on the warning about the nature of the twenty twenty four race that was true about the twenty sixteen race when Donald Trump narrowly beat Secretary Clinton. Whoever the election is about, is the person who is going to lose. The election in twenty sixteen was about Donald Trump until the very end when James Comey made it about Secretary Clinton and she lost very narrowly. The election is now fully and
squarely about one thing. It's about the president's facility. It's about the president's competency. It's about Joe Biden, not about Donald Trump, which is a remarkable political achievement for Team Biden. It's important to understand something cynicism helped get us to where we are today. Team Biden wanted Donald Trump to linger around. There are quotes glore to this point in
all of the big newspapers. They wanted him because he justified President Biden's breaking the promise that he made implicitly about being a one term president. Now they wanted Trump under the theory that Biden beats Trump, and then under the ludicrous serie that Biden is the only Democrat that can be Trump, when in fact the evidence was showing that the president was the weakest Democrat against Donald Trump. The gas lighting never stops. The media gas lighting on
this question has never stopped. So it has brought us to the edge of this unpredictable moment where the center cannot hold and things will fall apart. The idea that it was the staff's fault, and now Hunter Biden is at his father's side in the West Wing. Please, this has gone badly and tragically off of the rails, and it could be seen coming for a very long time. It is the price of humorous, stubbornness, of greed, wanting more. And so the great gas lighting has come to an
abrupt end, smashed into the rocks. And so a great period now of uncertainty, but in the possibility and most importantly possibility for electoral victory is upon the country. This race was something the American people tried to communicate over and over again they didn't want and the answer from both of the two parties who supposedly don't agree on anything, was this. This is your choice. The American people didn't want the choice, and the American people are going to
get their wish. There will be a different choice, and defeating Trump is the only thing that matters. His magic of cause is a fascist cause. It's dangerous, it's an American and it deserves vigorous, constant, articulate, aggressive opposition, and thusfore it has not gotten it. This is the warning. I'm Steve Schmidt.
