Episode description

Steve Schmidt reacts to Rep. Adam Scott's CNN interview and other instances of Republicans lying to blame Democrats for their own incompetence. Steve explains that MAGA gaslighting doesn't change the fact that Republicans are solely responsible for the ouster of Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House, their inability to select a new speaker, and the overall dysfunction in the House of Representatives.

Speaker 1

Austin Scott. He's a Maga Republican Congressman from Georgia, and he went on CNN to sit down with Brionna Killer to lament the loss of Jim Jordan's ambitions to become Speaker of the House. Now, Austin Scott seems very sad when he's on television, befuddled and lost. You see, Austin Scott is sad. Mike Kevin, the man who raised more money than any other Speaker of the House in history,

according to Austin Scott, has been deposed. Austin Scott seems to think the qualification to be the Speaker of the House is that's the job that goes to the person who raises the most money, as opposed to the person who's a competent politically, who has some vision, can organize a conference around a set of goals and advance people

towards it from all over the country. The simple truth of the matter is that two hundred and twenty two Republicans in the United States Congress that constitute the very thin majority are as dysfunctional, disordered, messed up, and chaotic as any comparable group of two hundred and twenty two randomly selected people anywhere in the country, meaning this group of two hundred and twenty two people may be America's most dysfunctional group of any random two hundred and twenty two people.

Speaker 2

It is extraordinary.

Speaker 1

Now, over and over and over again in this interview, Austin couldn't stop telling Brionna Kieler why it is there is no Speaker of the House. And you guessed who's to blame. Not the Republicans who control the institution, but

the Democrats. The Democrats who did not vote for Kevin McCarthy, a corrupt and cynical man, deeply, deeply involved in inciting an insurrection against the United States House of Representatives for the purposes of tearing down American democracy to make the loser of the presidential campaign the winner.

Speaker 2

Let's look at some of the images from that day.

Speaker 1

They came and assaulted police officers, beating them with American flag. Kevin McCarthy did this, Jim Jordan did this. Donald Trump of course did it, but he didn't do it alone.

Speaker 2

This violence is chaos.

Speaker 1

The Nazis and Orlando, the Proud Boys, beating, assaulting, attacking people on the streets, the mag of Republicans did this.

Speaker 2

Austin Scott did this, and.

Speaker 1

He has the nerve to go onto television and gaslight over and over and over again, but thankfully in this instance, the crazy hit a brick wall and the proverbial brick wall in this instance, or the exquisite facial expressions of Brionna Killer, who is obviously at the highest level of human existence when it comes to the ability to communicate nonverbally. Look at the look on her face as he goes on and on and won't stop with the bullshit. Look at her use of silence in this instant. Can you

imagine being her kid? I'm going to do my best to explain to Congressman Scott how the American government functions basic stuff like I'm just a bill on Capitol Hill. There are two major political parties in America, Congressman. They are the Republican and the Democratic parties. They are, respectively, the third and first oldest in the world. Your party, the Maga Party, has hijacked the Republican Party, founded in

eighteen fifty four like a body snatcher. It has been completely consumed by the cancerost Trump and the Maga movement, which is isolationist, fascistic, and utterly hostile to democracy, filled with cranks, ne'er dowells, and racists. This Maga movement is a profound threat to the country and completely antithetical to

the values historically of the Republican Party. Now, since you don't understand the basic stuff, Congressman, I don't think you'll get the history I'm about to say, but it is important. When the party was founded, a man who founded it named Horace Greeley said it would be the greatest party for freedom the world had ever known. Its first president

was Abraham Lincoln Scott. Your party, the Republican Party, the Maga Party, was the party that attacked the peaceful transition of power, that incited a mob to attack the capital of the United States and to carry a Confederate flag through it. The person who resurrected Donald Trump after that act is one of the most corrupt, dishonest, and unfit elected officials in American history. His name was Kevin McCarthy. He was the Speaker, and now he's gone. He's gone, Congressman, because your party.

Speaker 2

I'm going to say this again, slowly.

Speaker 1

Your party, the Republican Party, the Republican Conference moved emotion to vacate the speaker's chair and he lost the vote. The Democrats didn't do that. The Republicans did that. And when you go on CNN and you gaslight the American people, it's wrong. Let me say again, Congressman Kevin McCarthy is gone because the Republican conference is a collection of weirdos, cranks, conspiracy theorists, and dishonest gaslighters like you.

Speaker 2

You're a non functional group of people. You couldn't run.

Speaker 1

A coffee stand, a valet stand, a beach bar, or a lawn chair company. Group. You are as a collection some of the most unfitted people who have ever breathed there in these United States, spectacularly unfit for responsibility. There are literally none of you who any Democrat could ever vote for because of the malice and the insurrection in the couplicity in thirty five thousand, at least of Trump's lives. How many Republicans congressmen have voted for Nancy Pelosi over

the years. The answer is zero, which raises a question, why are you trying to blame Democrats for Republican dysfunction? It doesn't really in the end, I suppose what it is you say Congressman Scott. Other than this, it just proves how feted, dishonest, and delusional the entire enterprise has come.

The most simple and elemental test of any House majority is picking a speaker, and the Republican Conference can't do it, not because of the Democrats, but because of its incandescent weirdness, dysfunction, and the accumulation of toxic, dishonest, and dim witted personalities like you, Congressman Scott, working every day to make America great again. Well it looks like it's going terrific.
