When Lafayette threw the smoke at York Town, Virginia, with George Washington in command, saw the white flag rays above British lines, he declared, humanity has its victory, liberty
has its country. And he prophesied that the new world, this bastion of liberty, would save the old and it did in the First World War. When the first American forces to ever leave our shores as an expeditionary force came to fight in the First European War of the twentieth century, they marched in a formation to Lafayette's grave, and the commander of the detachment said, Lafayette, we are here. There are tens of thousands of Americans buried in French soil.
We are bound together not by the art of the deal, not by transactions, not by the bonds of gold and money and material things, but the ephemeral ones human dignity and liberty. When you see the French president standing with the American president talking about freedom and talking about liberty, and you see the look of contempt on Donald Trump's face, there is only one thing for any decent patriot to

And the position of the United States is that peace comes at the appeasement of the aggressor, because Donald Trump says so, because he wants to make America great again, by stabbing our allies in the back, betraying eighty years of collective security, by bending his knee to a Russian dictator, because he has an affinity for power and strong man. And when he looks in the mirror and he sees Vladimir Putin
staring back, well, Trump's staring back. It's a jealous Trump wishing it was Vladimir Putin staring back. Because all that Trump cares about his power, all that Donald Trump cares about his money. And Donald Trump has made that clear. Let's dispense with the notion that the Trump revenist era is to be an isolationist one, my friends, it is to be a new age of imperialism, and the Russian Empire will grow, and the Chinese Empire will grow, and
the American Empire will grow. This is Donald Trump's sick vision, and it must be rejected by the American people who look to our European friends and our shared values, and remain committed to these words never again. What is happening in America must be stopped. What is happening in Ukraine with regard to Russian aggression must not be at peace.
If there is to be peace, it must be a permanent peace, and it must be set with conditions that may clear that it is Ukraine who has won this war by surviving, and the Ukraine that survives, though smaller, will be far more powerful. And Russia, which attack a peaceful neighbor, will not be made powerful by the fruits of its contrast, but rather suffer the consequences of it a poorer nation that had sent eight hundred thousand of
its young men to die for Vladimir Putin's ego. And the question for you, my friends, my fellow American citizens, is how many of our sons, how many young American men are going to have to die in the world to satisfy Donald Trump's ego?
