Miranda Priestly, the smart and successful editor-in-chief of Runway magazine, finds herself having to contend with her unqualified, inept and apathetic assistant, Andy Sachs. While in the midst of a divorce Miranda slowly and carefully molds Andy into a competent, capable, appropriately dressed adult before being stranded in Paris after Andy inexplicably ghosts her job.
