Episode description

This episode is in collaboration with "This is Living with Stories"

Dealing with domestic abuse and fighting your way out of an abusive marriage is not easy. But it can all change if you raise your voice.  Episode 5 is a conversation with Zaaria Patni about her life and how she fought domestic abuse and came out of it with sheer grit and willpower. The road was not easy. It took 10 years for the legal proceedings to get over and rule in her favour, but she didn't give up.

Zaaria Patni broke free of her abusive marriage, refused to live a life of compromise and adjustment, and fought against the age-old law stating that you need the signature of both the parents for a simple passport approval document even if you are separated. Her actions helped change the law, which now approves the signature of either of the two parents. After this 10-year ordeal of separating from her ex, fighting for the custody of her child, and defending her rights as a single parent, she was finally free. Her story has inspired many women to fight for their rights and find justice.
