Hi, and welcome back to The Unseen Podcast, a podcast dedicated to missing people, unresolved cases and UK true crime. Today's day three of twelve days of missing person episodes throughout December. Today we're going to be covering the twenty seventeen disappearance of thirty seven year old Stefana Ottilia Malinicci, who disappeared from her home. Her two daughters have grown up without their mother and need some answers as to

what happened to her. This episode is about a missing person and so does not contain any graphic details, but listener discretion is always advised. Barking is a town in East London and sits within the London borough of Barking and Dagenham. It has a population of a two hundred and twenty thousand and has been under regeneration for a number of years due to the high level of deprivation within the town center. Beckel's Drive sits just outside the town center and is made up of a series of

semi detached and terrace houses. Thirty seven year old Stefania Ottilia Malinicci lived on Beckel's Drive in twenty seventeen. Stephania went by Attilia and was originally from Romania before settling in London. Attilia had a husband and was the mother of two daughters. She worked as a cleaner in the capital and was known by her family and friends as someone that always looked out for others and cared about

the people around her, even looking out for strangers. She was a loving and caring mother and someone who was very much loved by her family. On the sixth of September twenty seventeen, Attilia left her home on Beckle's Drive. There was nothing at all unusual about this, however, it was the fact that Attilia never returned to her home. This was certainly out of character for her, and her

family were quickly worried about what could have happened. They believed it was so out of character that they decided to contact the Metropolitan Police to report her as a missing person. When Attilia had still not returned several days after she'd last been seen on the sixth, her family grew increasingly worried. The police issued a description along with what she had last been seen wearing when she left that day. Attilia was described as having reddish hair in

a sharp bob style. At the time, she disappeared. She was wearing a black top with a large light colored motif, dark tight gianes or leggins tucked into flat dark mid calf length boots, and a dark colored three quarter length fitted jacket. Police also issued an appeal for anyone that might have seen her after she left home that day, while also indicating that Attilia was classed as a vulnerable person and so finding her was a priority for them.

Officers began to investigate in the areas surrounding Beckel's Drive and Barking, including looking at CCTV in the areas where Attilia may have visited. By looking through CCTV, police were able to find some images of Attilia after the sixth of September. On the ninth of September, CCTV showed her entering a shop on Green Lane in Ilford. Green Lane was around two miles from Beckle's Drive, where Attilia lived. It's unclear why Attilia was here three days after she

left her home. There has also been little reported about this sighting. Aside from a still image which can be seen on the Missing People website, it's clear that she was still quite close to home three days after her disappearance. Police also stated that they believed she may have bordered the number five boss from Wood Lane in Dagenham the following day, on the tenth of September, at around ten

fourteen pm. Wood Lane is around two point six miles from Beckle's Drive, where she lived, and around one point seven miles from Green Lane, where she had been spotted the day before. This information about the boss that Attilia had taken is very specific, including the ten fourteen pm time, and again it's unclear where it came from. However, it could be speculated that this came from a witness sighting.

Both of the pieces of information indicate that Attilia had not traveled far from her home in the days after she disappeared. Since the ninth of September, there have been no verified sightings of Attilia, and since the tenth of September there has been no more information about her possible whereabouts. She has now been missing for over eight years, and there has been very little published about any progress made on her case. It seems as though she disappeared into

thin air. What could have possibly happened to her in the days following the ninth of September. Attilia left behind a husband and two daughters, a family in both the UK and Romania, and it's clear she was a loved member of this family. Her daughter's appealed in May of this for information that could lead to finding their mum. They had to grow up without her in their life and this has had a huge impact on them. They just want answers to the many questions that they have.

In their statement to the public, they said, it's now been more than seven years without our mother. We've grown up without her and miss her every day. She always brings support and love for anyone who needs it, even strangers, and she always tries to cheer people up. We appeal to the public for anyone to come forward if they know anything about her or her whereabouts. We also appeal

to her directly, please return home to us. Detective Chief Inspector cam Sody from the Metropolitan Police's East Area Public Prosecution Unit said it's now more than seven years since Attilia was reported missing and we are continuing our work to find out where she is. While there's no evidence to suggest that Attilia has come to physical harm, we cannot rule this out. Her family here in the UK and in Romania are still carrying on their daily lives

without knowing where their loved one is. Her daughters have grown up without their mother, So we urge anyone who may know Attilia or where she is to come forward without further delay. We ask anyone who has provided shelter or support to Attilia to also please contact police, even if this was not recently, We want to hear from you. It's clear from the police statement that they don't have evidence that anything has happened to Attilia or that she

has been harmed. However, they also do not have any evidence as to her whereabouts and without this they of course cannot give any definitive answers to her family. It's so crucial that these cases are discussed and that Attilia is not forgotten. Someone out there may have the key to the case without even knowing it.
