In the third parable of Luke 15, Jesus details the misadventures of a father and two sons, a story that follows the pattern of the account of the exile in Babylon and which conforms to the Dying-Death-Resurrection- New Life motif common to salvation narratives of the people of Israel. We see how the prodigal son, accepted by the father on his return, has a life that prepares him well for discipleship.
