In Wesley's Via Salutis (Way of Salvation) the New Birth has three major components: justification, regeneration and assurance. The Doctrine of Assurance, a Wesleyan distinctive, teaches that through a combination of the witness of one's own spirit and the witness of God's spirit with one's own spirit, a person of faith can be assured of their salvation.
