Memories and Family Joy on Father's Day

First of all , this weekend , or this show , this episode , I would like to dedicate to a friend of the family , a family member actually , a friend of the family , a family member actually , uh , my wife's family and , uh , a friend of mine .

I'd like to dedicate this show to rick , who has passed on last week , uh , a few days ago , I guess I should say , but anyhow , uh , I'm dedicating this show to him and his lovely wife and friend of many years that has stayed behind and has to suffer this world alone . So let's all pray for his passing and pray for her .

And if you're not a praying person , that's fine , just pass on positive thoughts to the couple , okay ? And I'd like to also mention we had a family friend , um , a cat , a very warm , loving cat , passed on this weekend .

My daughter , ariel , actually witnessed the death and it was a horrifying emotional moment for her and my wife , the last moments they got to share with our friend . They got to share with our friend Ghost and then we actually called her Ghost . So , anyway , I want to mention her as we begin this show .

And now we're going to pass on that rough , sorrowful stuff and we're going to move on to Father's Day weekend . All right , to all the fathers out there , happy father's day weekend . I hope you get to enjoy it with your family .

For all those that have fathers , that's passed on , I pray for you and I hope you remember the good , not the bad , and enjoy this day .

Uh , take care of yourself . I was going to mow grass today and I think I don't know if I'm I used to in the heat .

But I have to say I really believe that I did something right in my life because I've got five beautiful get this now daughters . Three of them is my own and two of them I get to claim as my own because of Shannon . But I get , you know , beautiful kids , beautiful grandkids .

So whether I did something really right is not as important as the love that I get out of my kids . All right , you can't make fun of that statement .

Um , I'm hoping it gives me just a little bit more clarity , because it's kind of muddy and my throat you know doing that thing . It always does when I start my podcast . I don't know why it does that . Lemon drops may be part of it , but I only had one today , folks . Yeah , I like lemon drops and I have them quite often .

So I'm drinking a smoothie , though . I went to Seven Brew this morning to treat myself for Father's Day and I ordered a smoothie and it sure is smooth . And I got a sticker they're giving stickers away on Father's Day and it's got a picture . It looked like a Ford , it may be a Chevy , I didn't pay attention With dad on the license plate and Seven Brew .

It's pretty cool . I took it , put it on my laptop . Um , it's pretty cool , I took it , put it on my laptop . My uh podcasting laptop has a bunch of stickers on it , man , from sweet water all the way , uh , to the ugly quacking duck podcast .

They usually celebrate it on March , the 19th . Now we in the United States actually give credit to the holiday to a Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane , washington . Hey , that's where my daughter lives . Hey , that's where my daughter lives . Her father , a Civil War veteran , raised her and her five siblings after their mother died in childbirth . So that was in 1909 .

They said that she got the idea from a sermon she has listening to on Mother's Day . Huh , cool . So that was a local holiday that religious leaders supported . And then , let's see , calvin Coolidge gave his support to the observance in 1966 . And then , president , no , that was 1924 .

And then , 1966 , president Lyndon Johnson issued a proclamation that recognized the day and it became a national holiday in 1972 , when Richard Nixon signed legislation . And what'd they do ? It was a third day , third Sunday of June , for Father's Day . I bet you didn't know that , right ?

Well then , they turned it from a religious holiday to what A commercialized day . Of course , let's make money off of it , but anyway , that's kind of where Father's Day has come from . I hope you enjoyed that bit of news . So what do you think , sonny ?

I took an allergy pill and hopefully that will help me , but I think I've already reined my voice for today . I think you gave it up a long time ago , but anyway , that's me . Okay , hey , I want to mention a co-worker , uh brian , up at work .

Uh , he had a couple weeks ago his son got uh crushed , uh , by a car behind a car and uh , he's home taking care of him . So I want you guys to mention , remember him on Father's Day , whether it's by prayer or positive thoughts , but he's doing his fatherly thing . He's home taking care of his son , while his wife and his son's wife goes out and works .

So just remember him . I wanted to do a shout-out to him . Go , brian , go . And I'd also like to mention Mark . A shout-out to Mark . Mark is a faithful friend and listener . He uses my webpage to comment on stuff and , uh , which is very grateful he's always commenting , um . So if any of you want to do that , that's great .

We uh was actually walking through a grocery store , uh , this week and turned the corner and there he was , so we talked a few minutes and , uh , he gave a shining flowers to lily , how she sounded good and the way she did things . So I appreciate that and , uh , I wanted to give him a shout out .

We promised to shout out our friends and listeners and partners as they come along , and so that's what we've done today .

And there was a couple more people that gave comments on our website , but , uh , they were russian comments , so , um , I'm not sure that they wasn't uh baloney , if you know what I mean , but I couldn't read them , so I can't , uh , tell you what their names are or anything . I appreciate every one of you showing up , listening and giving me feedback . Um , keep it up . One thing I would like to mention about Gary . We've talked in the past about him coming on um and doing a podcast episode with me , and I think he's going to .

No , only two , only two 6.0 or above earthquakes . One was Peru and one was Macquarie , I think islands west of that , if I pronounced that right , m-a-c-q-u-a-r-i-i-e mcguire , mccair , I don't know . Anyway , I never said I was intelligent . There you go , folks . That's the last seven days , the earthquakes as we know it now . That's relying on the usgs .

I think it's right , um , giving us the right information . Many people have accused getting rid of the data , um , so who knows ? But we try to track it anyway and see what happens and , as usual , we just enjoy doing it and guessing and sharing that information with you . It's , it's fun . So I hope you enjoyed it . What else can we say ?

I hope you have a good father's day with your father and if you're the father , I hope you are blessed with your children , at least being able to contact you . I know a lot of people are distance , uh , between them , uh , they're spread out and it's hard to enjoy days like this even christmases . But do what you can if you're working .

If you're working , take a minute out and spread the love , even if you're working with other people . Just spread the love . There's a reason why I'm going to go over it again , but there's a reason why I went to a condenser mic . It picks up better . I like them the way they sound and , uh , it does better for my voice . I don't have to talk as loud , however , in the summertime .

I've got the air conditioner , running windows open a lot of times but you can hear mowers and , uh , any extra noises they pick up and , uh , I thought I would try a new dynamic mic and I went .

You know , it was a cheaper one and it doesn't sound bad , but I hear those sounds that I'm used to hearing on the older ones , maybe not as bad and I'm not sure I like the tone . I'm still adjusting on this one . But this is what we started out with . We started out with a dynamic mic and we boosted it up big time and it went not too bad .

Uh , now I've got that tans tascam mix cast four um that we're running the mics through and it helped quite a bit . But I missed the condenser mic . But maybe , if I get , get it adjusted right , uh , and and get to learn where to be next to the mic , because I've about forgot how to do that . We'll get it sounding good .
