After finally admitting to his crimes Watts was given several life sentences and remains in prison today.
We're talking about one of America's oldest mysteries; The Lost Colony of Roanoke. After spending 3 years at sea John White came back to an empty settlement, with little to no clues as to what happened; or where they went. What do you think happened?
We've finally begun delving into cryptids, and Liz couldn't have chosen a better subject than the Jersey Devil. This thing is supposedly the 13th child of an impoverished family in the 1700's. People took the "threat" of the Jersey Devil so seriously that they basically put a town on lock down. I'm really not sure how anyone could take this creature seriously if it looks as described.
On September 1, 1969 40 or so people from several towns in Berkshire County in New England reported seeing bright lights, and strange aircrafts doing aerial maneuvers in the sky. There are also accounts from a handful of people who were beamed up into a UFO. What in the world was going on in the Berkshires that night?
We're revisiting the Warren Universe with Liz talking about the inspiration behind The Nun. Star crossed lovers and horrifying apparitions at the Borley Rectory make for one hell of a story.
Liz covers the case of Colleen Stan. At the age of 20 she was abducted while hitchhiking from Eugene, Oregon by Cameron Hooker, and held as a sex slave for 7 years. Throughout this time she suffered mental and physical abuse. The most prominent of which was being kept in a small box underneath his and his wife's (yeah, he had a wife who knew aaaaaall about this) for 23 hours a day. Even after gaining freedom in Hooker's home, Colleen stayed out of fear for her family's safety. When she realized ...
Ed and Lorraine Warren spent the majority of their lives investigating supernatural phenomena. These two are ultimate couples goals; after meeting at just 16 the Warrens spent 50 years making the subject of ghosts and ghouls something that didn't have to be whispered about in passing. Ed and Lorraine laid the ground work for modern day paranormal investigators everywhere. Their experiences even inspired the conjuring series of movies which Liz has coined "The Warren Universe."
For the first episode of the year Liz covers one of the worlds most haunted places. Poveglia Island in Italy has a rich (and twisted history); so no wonder it's haunted right? This island was used to separate people with the plague and home to an asylum over the course of history. The current owner has closed the island down completely, and nature has taken back over creating a breathtaking place that is (literally) hauntingly beautiful.
In this episode Aly covers the case of a bright young woman named Mitrice Richardson. In Fall of 2009 during what is now believed to be a manic episode a series of strange occurrences led to her disappearance. Her remains were found almost a year later, and the details surrounding her (still open) case continue to baffle and confuse. We hope everyone enjoyed their holiday season, and we love you all!
Well, we made it to 10 whole episodes! So, since it's the holiday season we figured we'd celebrate with a gift exchange and a series of mysterious deaths. Liz went down a bit of a rabbit hole diving into 20 or so Cambodian refugees that escaped the killing fields; only to have their lives end suddenly in their sleep. We may not get to the bottom of this enigma, but we're still going to talk about it.
The topic of discussion this week is the case of a young woman named Annelise Michel. Her unfortunate death culminated over the course of several years of (what she and her family believed) demonic possession. Her passing resulted in a court case against her parents and the priests (who performed just under 70 exorcisms in the time period of 10 months). Her story inspired the movie The Exorcism of Emily Rose, and people who hear her story still debate the validity of her possession. What do you ...
Liz takes us on a wild ride talking about the case of The Movement for the Restoration of the Ten Commandments of God. This Ugandan branch of Catholicism went from religion to cult real quick. This movement resulted in over 500 of its members' deaths in March of 2000.
Part 2 in our "mini series" on exorcisms. Aly covers the case of Roland Doe, and also discusses Dr. Richard Gallagher and his deep dive into the world of exorcisms during his first case with a woman named "Julia." Show us some love on IG and Twitter @thetsifpodcast, facebook (The TSIF Podcast), or through email (thetsifpodcast@gmail.com). Send us the stories that made you say "That Shit is Fucked," and we'll read them on an episode!
In 1973 The Exorcist film was released. Since then curiosity surrounding the idea of exorcisms has risen year after year. Who decides if a person is possessed or not? Who conducts an exorcism; and how do they do it? In part one of this 3 part series Aly discusses what she learned about exorcisms in the "real" world. If this episode is your cup of tea, look out for part 2 next week where Aly discusses 2 documented cases of possessions/exorcisms!
Liz talks about the tragic case of Sylvia Likens. She and her younger sister were left in the care of a woman name Gertrude Saniszewski while her parents traveled for work in the 1960's. Sylvia suffered unimaginable abuse at the hands of Gertrude, her children, and other neighborhood children before her death three months later. Viewer discretion is advised. There is mention of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse.
In this episode Aly dives in to tell us the unsolved murder of the Gruber family and their maid. Will we be able to solve it in one episode?? Probably not, but tune in to find out! PS. We apologize for the background noise. We're in a tiny apartment by a wall shared with a TV.
In this episode we talk about Travis Walton's extraterrestrial abduction in Snowflake AZ.
We dive in to asylum practices and conditions through the years. From ice pick labotomies to overcrowding; you'll be saying TSIF by the end of the episode.
In the first episode of the podcast we'll be talking about morbid curiosity. What is it? Why is it? Theme music is called Glacial Waves by Joseph McDade. Happy Halloween!!!
