Hey, they're friends. Before we kick off today's podcast episode, we have a correction from last week's show. Thanks to our avid listener and friend of the podcast, Nancy Skinner. She reminded me that in talking about Kramer Versus

Kramer, it wasn't Ricky Schroeder who played the little kid. Ricky Schroeder was in a movie called The Champ. So the little kid from Kramer Versus Kramer his name is Justin Henry and he was so good in Kramer Versus Kramer that he was nominated for an Oscar Best Actor in a Supporting Role and he was only eight years, ten months, and twenty days old, making Justin Henry to this date the youngest nominee for a competitive honor in Academy Award history.

Way to go, Justin Henry. My apologies and thanks again to our friend Nancy. Now on with the show, Welcome to You Should Tell Better with Mike C. Nelson, the guy who won't show up about winning three times on Jeopardy. Welcome, Welcome, Welcome to You Should Know Better, the trivia podcast that tests your knowledge and a little bit of your patients. Our goal here is to celebrate the theme of continuing education. We should always be

learning and always be on the prowl to know better. Now we will meet our sensational jeopardy champions and hear all about what good causes they're playing for, and shortly crowned one of them the smartest person in the world for one week. But as for right now, let's jump right into some questions and answers with our first of four rounds today. Round one General Knowledge Thinking caps on, gentlemen, pencils ready, hand away we go. There are eight questions

in the general Knowledge round. Here is question number one. Who wrote the book The Hero with a Thousand Faces? Who is the author of that famous book of mythology? Who wrote the book The Hero with a Thousand Faces? For question number one? Last name will Suffice? All right? Question number three. What singer, songwriter, pianist and activist got the nickname the High Priestess of Soul? The High Priestess of Soul? I think there was a

documentary about her in the last five years. I think it was titled like where did you Go? And this person's name? What singer, songwriter, pianist and activist got the nickname The High Priestess of Soul? Aretha Franklin's the Queen. Well, I took out one of my dresses. Yeah, yeah, she's the Queen of soul? Was she a multi high fitted queen slash

priestess? Let's give it a whirl. Here's question number four. Eugene Delacroix commemorated the July Revolution of eighteen thirty, which toppled Charles the Tenth with what foreword titled painting? Very famous painting by Eugene Delacroix, commemorating the July Revolution of eighteen thirty, which toppled Charles the Tenth with what four word titled painting? How do we feel about art and artists wheelhouse or not at all?

It's not my wheelhouse. It's funny. I was terrible at it, to like, met my wife and she really got me into art, and so I think that's something that was horrible at and trying to think turned into a relative strength at least. So that's great. That's awesome if anybody or anything can do that to you. Because I felt like someone just asked me about,

like, how did you study for Jeopardy? And I was like, well, that's that's kind of what I focused on, was like the things that show up a lot on Jeopardy that I was pretty shitty at, Like I got a brush up on these dozen the fifteen things that show up a lot on Jeopardy that I wasn't great at question number of five, we've arrived at question number five. Who is the current Prime Minister of the UK? Kind of more of a current events thing. He's only been there for a

little bit. Last name will Suffice again? Who is the current Prime Minister of the UK? A lot of volatility over there are people only lasting for weeks and stuff, But can you name the current PM of the UK? General knowledge round with our Jeopardy champs here question number six. Will give you the clue that it is not ice hockey, which is kind of crazy, But they have

a national sport up there? Can you name it? For number six? I think it's my phone of friend for Mattea at this point, or yeah, Extrabec's kids someone Canadian? Will Arnett and Murray the band members of Rush I can call them. I'm gonna called Getty Lee. What is your sport up there? Question number seven your penultimate question in the general Knowledge round? Can you give me the first names of either of the Gilmore Girls? I

missed the show. I didn't watch it. It's a famous show. Can you give me either of the first names of the two lead characters on Gilmore Girls for question number seven? And finally, here we are. We've arrived at question number eight in the general knowledge round. Name the largest musical instrument manufacturing company that gets its name from the words meaning mountain and blade. Mountain and blade. When you put them together, you get the name of this

largest musical instrument manufacturing company on the planet. Can you name it? All? Right? Well, pencils down. We'll go over your answers in just a second. But it's time to introduce our wonderful Jeopardy Champs. This gent from Bluebell, Pennsylvania. Originally he won five times in regular season play and won one game in the twenty twenty two Tournament of Champions to finish as a semi finalist. He's a consultant and startup director. My friend Tyler Davis Road

is here. Hey, Mike, how's it going? Yeah? Oh, it's awesome to have you here. Loved watching you on the show in both regular season and then in the t OC You can follow follow Tyler on social media. He's on Twitter and you can follow him at Tyler thinks This on Twitter. Tyler, what charity are you playing for today? I am playing for the ASPCA Adoption Center in New York City. Eric the person that will be shortly my competitor today. Both are notable for our Jeopardy Famous Cats and

I received topper from this a SPCA adoption center. I'm looking on there right now and they've got a cat to be adopted by the name of Jellybeans and another one by the name of Wiggles. So with names like that, I don't know how they are not yet adopted, but they're a great organization. I think they also provide some emergency medical character for for animals in the city.

I had a great experience there, so hopefully a little attention ill a donation will mean some other people can as well and find some great cats and doctors bring home fantastical winner lose. We're happy to make a donation in your name to the ASPCA Animal Adoption Center in New York City. It's time to meet your opponent go a line, I from Champagne, have a Champagne jam in Champagne, Illinois. He was he's always one upping Tyler. He was

a six game champ and he won't shut up about it. In twenty twenty two, and we got some caveats here with a unique distinction of both defeating and being defeated by fellow to sears Ryan Long and our most recent guest Megan walks Press. And then you also won game one game in the Tournament of Champions, which involved you being the second contestant to pull off the back to back true Daily double Wagers. Shout out to Roger Craig, who did it

first. Oh that's balls were what were the amounts? What was the first amount? And then what was the second amount? I mean I was third place if I pretty dismerge when it started, so I didn't have a ton of money to work with. But it was like six thousand and then twelve thousands. Thinks what I'm talking about. That's that's awesome. That's what makes that show great though it's you are wagering your own money. This guy is

a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. My friend eric A Haysick is here. Yeah, thanks Mike, great to have you here. You can follow Eric on social media at Eric A. Haysick on Twitter. And what charity are you playing for? Today? So? I'm playing for a charity called Wilderness Inquiry, and it's a Twin Cities organization that basically tries to remove barriers for people to go outside outdoor activities like hiking, camping, canoeing, rock

climbing. So, you know, disadvantaged youth, people of all ages, with disabilities who might not be able to get out in nature. They make it much more accessible. I know when I was a kid grown up, I loved standing out of the woods with my dad and my brother, and you know a lot of people might not have that same opportunity. So it's a really cool organization to kind of make the outdoors available for everyone. That is beautiful. Again, win or lose, We're happy to make a donation

in your name to the Wilderness Inquiry. Folks, you know our players, you know what great charities they're playing for. But it's time to get back to the game and go over our answers for a very fun general knowledge round. We'll get our first scoreboard Upbate here. There were eight questions in the general Knowledge round. Question number one was who wrote the book about mythology, The Hero with a Thousand Faces? Tyler, start us off, what did

you get for number one? The name that jumped to mind, Amelie was Conrad, and I couldn't think of anything better than that, so I stuck with Conrad. Stick it with Conrad? Eric, what did you put for number one? I had absolutely no idea. So maybe Mark Twain wrote a book about mythology. So mar Twin, we got Mark, Mark Twain, we got Conrad. Conrad was closer. It is the gentleman known by Joseph Campbell. Joseph Campbell wrote that book about mythology, The Hero with a Thousand

Faces? Now will never forget Question number two? What is the capital city of the African nation of Namibia? Eric? What did you get for number two? So I went with Windhu Windhuch, Yeah, wind hoeck wind Hooke. Tyler, what did you put for number two? Yeah? I'm meant to go through my flash cards on national capitals today and I read a time I did not adventure a guest, But wind Hook sounds pretty correct, So I'm gonna guess I'm down one nothing. The correct answer. The capital city

of the Sub Saharan African nation of Namibia is wind Hook. Wind Hook. So we got Eric off the schneide. Tyler's gonna get it right here. Here we go. It's one nothing after two? Question number three, What singer, songwriter, pianist and activist got the nickname the High Priestess of Soul? Tyler? What did you get from number three? I guessed Billy Holiday. Oh, excellent, guest. I love Billy Holliday. Eric, what did you put Philly? Philly Holliday was who I was trying to think of,

But I came up with Edda James. Oh yeah, we got Billy Holliday. Edda James. She's actually over my shoulder right here. It's miss Nina Simone. Nina some one of my favorites, is known as the High Priestess of Soul. But a little deeper cut of a nickname, Nina Simone is the High Priestess of Soul. Question number four was your art question? Eugene Delacroix commemorated the July Revolution of eighteen thirty, which toppled Charles the Tenth

with what ForWord titled painting Eric with help from his wife. I think, Eric, what did you get from number four? Yeah? I wouldn't have known this a couple of years ago, but I think I do now believe it's liberty leading the people? Liberty leading the people? Tyler, what did you get again? My answer doesn't doesn't compare. I think I'm down two oh, and I'm so sorry. I did not want to do this to Tyler. I hope you know that, but it is, in fact liberty

leading the People? Is that famous painting by Eugene Delacroix for number four? Liberty Leading the People? Question number five? Who is the current Prime Minister of the UK? Tyler as of recording today, April thirty, I believe it is Richie Sunac. That is a great caveat or opening thing. Preamble to your answer, Eric, what did you put? Yeah? So one

of my totally inexplicable like trivia holes is like current current events. I don't know why I don't keep up with the world is you know, Twitter and social media can be a little bit of accessible, so I stay away from it. But I had no idea. I think there was you know, there's two or three of them in a short span there and I just totally

zoned out on that, so we'll go in. I think there was Liz Trust and then a cabbage and then I think we had discussion that they put that up to see like what would last longer ahead of last or Liz Trust? Who was there for like yeah, eight days or something. It is Rishi Sunac is the current Prime Minister of the UK. So Tyler's off the schneide breathe freely now. Question number six, what is the national sport of Canada? And I gave you the caveat that it was not ice hockey,

Eric, What did you come up with? I went with lacrosse? Lacrosse, Tyler, what did you put? I did not venture far from ice hockey and I made it all the way to curling. See, I thought that might be a guest too. Curling is a great guest, but it is in fact with the native tribes from North America. It was lacrosse. Lacrosse is the national sport of our neighbors to the north. Some people call it the hat of America. That is not nice, but I think it's

funny, but it's lacrosse. Four number six. Question number seven is kind of your TV question, can you give me either of the first names of the Gilmore Girls. There's two of them, Lee in the lead character role. Tyler, what did you get from number seven? I believe that they are Laurelai and Rory Laureli and Eric. What did you get? Yeah, I've never seen Gilmore Girls, but for some reason when those says it's in your brain, I don't know why. I think one of them is named

Laura la So hopefully Tyler's right. You know what, I'm gonna give Eric one point and I'm gonna give Tyler too because he got a bolth. There is Rory and Laura Lee are in fact the Gilmore Girls for number seven. Question number eight interesting question named the largest musical instrument manufacturing company that gets its name from the words meaning mountain and blade. Eric I was not cool enough to be a banned in school, so the only instrument compaign remotely think of

his ziljan like this yeah symbol. We'll go with them, Yeah Ziljian symbols. If you're a drummer, that's a big deal. Tyler, what did you put for number eight? I went with Yamaha. Yamaha, Yes, you had to go to Japan. It is a Yamaha, the name of that company that means supert played Yamaha when you think of yeah, pianos and keyboards and all that stuff, and then they're like, and we'll also make

motorcycles. Sure, sure, that's great. That's great. Um So after a very fun general knowledge round, look at this, we are all tied at four. It is four to four after one. Yeah, great strategy. Get the first four wrong and then you get a kiddy bonus point. That's I wish Jeopardy worked that way. Yeah, yeah, because that's that's

one thing. I'm very glad in your first games when you were on the show, did you like get off to like a pretty okay start or were you one of those people that kind of took a while to kind of get warmed up. I was horribly horrible. Yeah, horrible to start it one of my one of my first games. It may have actually been my first game. The question was about the Portmanteau tequila brand founded by George Clooney,

and I said, tassa amigos. I like, I kind of spaced it out a little bit, maybe a little nervous, and I got a hit with the neg right from the start. So yeah, you just gotta bounce back from it. There's there's a lot of flus on the board and sometimes you just get start off with a negative six hundred right to the gut. I love that. So it is tied at four after one before we move on to the pop culture grab bag, which is our round number two.

Yeah, we've already talking about our our little fun anecdotes from the show. But can you guys regale us with anything about just getting on the show. How long have you watched the show and how many years or how many times did you take the test or was it something that was right away? We'll start with you Tyler. How how was it for you? I don't know. I always kind of watch Jeopardy growing up, and then in college and working it was kind of my test to see if I could get home soon

enough because it's airs at seven where where I am. I had taken the test a couple of times, and then one year, I think when Alex got sick, I kind of made it my vision board New Year's resolution of I'm gonna get on Jeopardy this year, And I took the test and I felt really good about it, and I missed the email where they called me back for a audition, and I found it in my spam folder from like five days prior, where they get sad, please respond to the next like

forty eight hours and sign up for one of these new time slots. So I immediately emailed them back, sent them all my paperwork, and I'm like, I'm so sorry. Can you get me a next week? By the way, there's one more slot tonight. Can I can fill that one? And They're like, if you can make it on Zoom in the next fifteen minutes, you can have that slot. So I canceled a bunch of meetings and like threw on a collared shirt and turn on all the lights and just

kind of went in cold. And I think my euphoria over finding the email translated into being personable on camera. And three months later I was I had actually just proposed to my girlfriend, and the next day I get the call to go on the show. So it just all sort of it all went very quickly and very very well in a very short period of time. That's so cool. Yeah, you didn't have the time to overthink it or freak yourself. I was just like, oh, let's go, time, go

do do it? Do it? Do it? How about you? Eric? Yeah, so I've been trying out like every single year since I was in high school and I'm in my thirties now, so it took a little bit of time. But yeah, it was actually Ken Jennings run right before I started high school and kind of was like, well, this is cool.

I want to do that someday. And you know, you know, probably failed the tests more times that I passed it because I only got like three maybe interviews like during that time, and kinda like Tyler, I got the you know, I took the any Time test in like March of twenty twenty one, and you know, you're like, hey, you passed it. Sign up for one of these Zoom times and my work hours are really

weird and I couldn't make any of the slot. So I emailed him about that and it never emailed me bash and it was like two months later. I was like I should follow up on that, and they're super nice. They're like, oh, we're so sorry here and got my zoom interview and obviously and obviously went from there. So there's a lot of time coming, but it paid up. That's awesome. Yeah, I'm one of those long term I think I took like over the span of like twenty one or twenty

two years it took me to get on the show. So it happened some people. It's like, oh yeah, I took it for the first time and they called me a month later, and then another month I was on. I'm like, that's also another avenue of you getting this show. But everyone has a different story. That's why I love it. Well, thanks for telling us about that. We'll talk more about your runs on the show and the TOC later on. Well, let's get back to the game.

It's four to four. Tyler and Eric are tied here as we head head into round two. Pop culture grad Bang. But we're gonna do around about theater. It's all about the theater. There's eight questions in this round. Here we go, Question number one in your theater pop culture back. The Threepenny Opera was written by What German. What German wrote the Threepenny Opera for question number one, so we call it deep cut. That is a deep cut. That is a deep cut. We're not doing You're a good man,

Charlie Brown and Rose Hamilton. Yeah, yeah, exactly, all right. Question number two here it is what Patty spelled. Patti has won three Tony Awards for playing Evita, Rose and Gypsy and Joanne and the Sondheims Musical Company. What Patty? I just need the last name of what Patty has won three Tony Awards for playing Evita, her own, Rose and Gypsy and Joanne and Sondheim's Company. Named that Patty? For number two? All right, we have arrived at question number three. Can you name either of the

two main characters in the very famous play Waiting for Godot? Waiting for Godot? Can you name either of the two main characters that are sitting there waiting for Godot for the whole play? Just need one of the very interesting names that they have. I'll give you that. Just need to name one of those two main characters for Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett for number three. All right, back to the game in the theater round here, Question number

four. What alliterative playwright penned the Vagina Monologues back in nineteen ninety six? What's alliterative playwright penned to the very famous the Vagina Monologues back in nineteen ninety six? All right, here's question number five. I think I feel good. I feel good about this one. What Shakespeare character has the famous line it is a tale told by an idiot full of sound and fury signifying nothing. What Shakespeare character has that famous line, it is a tale told by

an idiot full of sound and fury signifying nothing. Name that character. I'm a very famous Shakespeare play for number five. Alright, Question number six is kind of a fill in the blank. We're gonna go over some Sam Shepherd plays. I just need you to fill in one of these blanks for any of these plays. I'm gonna give you three Sam Shepherd plays. You fill in the blank. There's blank West, there's buried blank, and then there's full four blank. So again you have fill in the blank of these Sam

Shepherd plays, Blank West, buried blank, or fool four blank. Just need one. I like this question a lot. Question number seven your penultimate question, and the pop culture grabbag. This is all about theater. Richard Brinsley Sheridan's seventeen seventy five play The Rivals gave us this character who often misspeaks by using words which they do not have the meaning that they intend. It's

become a word we use nowadays, but it's based on this character. So again, Question number seven, Richard Brinsley Sheridan's seventeen seventy five play The Rivals gave us this character who often misspeaks by using words which do not have the meaning that they intend. If you even know the term or this character, I'll give you the points. And finally, question number eight, your final question in the theater round. What Pulitzer Prize winning Tony Kushner two part play

was subtitled a Gay Fantasia on National Themes? I think they made an HBO film out of this as well, or a two part series on HBO. What Pulitzer Prize winning Tony Kushner two part play was subtitled a Gay Fantasia on National Themes? Pencils down, Let's go of our answers for the pop cult grab bag. I think the first time we've done this. It is a

theater around. Let's go over our answers. Question number one. The Three Penny Opera was written by what German Eric so I Actually this was one of the one I was studying for Jeffredy like I should probably learned something about theater. What are like? The top one? Hundred plays. I believe Bertold Brett the threepenny Opera that I'm selling an idiot. Bertolt Breck's a great guest for the three penny Opera? Tyler, What did you put for number one?

I put Gilbert and Sullivan, but I think Brex sounds a little more German and also more correct. Gilbert and Sullivan they did some stuff too. The correct answer is bertrt Brecht. That's a pretty German name too. Bertolt Brecht, for number one, wrote the three Penny Opera. Question number two? What Patty spelled? Patti has won three Tony Awards for playing Evita,

Rose and Gypsy and Joanne and Sondheim's Company. Tyler, I was going back and forth between Patti LaBelle and Patti LuPone, and I ended on Patty Loopone. Patty Loopone, both great patties. Eric, What did you put for number two? Um, I'm vaguely aware of someone named Patty Clark, so I'm gonna put that down. I'm for Pattie Patty Clark. The correct answer, it's not LaBelle, it's not Clark. It is Patti LuPone. Patty

Lapone, three time Tony Award winning Patty lopone. Question number three, can you name either of the characters the main characters that are waiting for Godot and that Samuel Beckett play? Eric? So, yeah, I was struggling this one and then Estragone popped into my head. Estragone, great connection. That was a right connection, Tyler? What did you put? I'm not I'm not angling for the bonus point here, but I believe the character for Vladimir

and Estragon I think we have I think we've created. Yeah. I don't want the press to that, but it is, in fact you got them both. You guys got the points. It is Vladimir and Estragon are the two gents that are waiting for Godove Vladimir and Estragon for number three? Well done? Question number four? What a literative playwright penn to the Vagina Monologues back in nineteen ninety six? Tyler? I know this is on a note card somewhere, but couldn't come up with it. I don't have a guest

for this one. Find the dust off that note card, that flash card? Eric, could you pull out an answer for number four? Yeah? I first thought when you read that was I should have made a note card on this that's a pretty popular play. I have absolutely no idea. Her name a wonderful play, right. Her name is Eve Ensler. Eve Ensler wrote the Vagina Monologues. Now we all know. Question number five was your Shakespeare question? What Shakespeare character has the famous line it is a tale told

by an idiot, full of sound and fury signifying nothing. Eric Ah Shakespears not in my category, but I feel like like fools and sound and fury is like ringing a lot of king Lear bells in my head. So we'll go with King king Lear. Great guess, Tyler, what did you put for number five? If it's the show I'm thinking of, I've seen it live and I'm gonna feel terrible if I'm wrong. But I'm gonna go with

Macbeth. Macbeth, the Scottish play. Yeah, you maybe saw Denzel Washington say these lines in the last couple of years in the film version of Macbeth. It is Macbeth that says that fateful line. And Shakespeare play for number five? Question number six, fill in the blank for one of these, Sam Shepherd plays you it could either choose blank, West, Barry blank, or fool for a blank? Tyler, which one did you pick for number six? The anything that rang remotely about would be like fool for love,

So I went with love fool for love. Great guests, Eric, what did you pick for number six? Yeah? I took the pirate angle and went with a buried treasure. That answer deserves a splosh. Yeah, so fool for Love and Buried Treasure. The answers are True West. That's that play that I think Philip Seymour Hoffman and John c Riley would like flip roles. They play each role like one day in the next days the other interest. They did that I think in the nineties or two thousands or something.

That was really cool that they did that for True West. Then there's Buried Child. It's Buried Child is the title, very very strange play. And number three was fool for Love. It was fool or love. So Tyler gets the big point for number I'd already crossed that office incorrect, So I gotta give yourself a little pat on the back or a gold star for number

six. Question number seven. Richard Brinsley Sheridan's seventeen seventy five play The Rivals gave us this character who often misspeaks by using words which do not have the meaning that they intend. Eric, what did you come up with? Um, it's maybe a misconnection, but it's spoonerism. Spooner's like like weird words. There's funny words. A spoonerism. That's a good guest, Tyler, what did you put for number seven? I went with a malapropism, A

malapropism. It's based on the character character I should say, Missus malaprop that was her name, Missus malaprop And that's how we get a malapropism for number seven. Way to go, Tyler. For those of you wondering what a malaprop or a malapropism is, let's go to the king of malapropisms, Yogi Barra, who said a bunch of stuff, including it ain't the heat, it's the humid and he also said he hits from both sides of the plate. He's amphibious. There you go. And then finally, question number eight.

What Pulitzer Prize winning Tony Kushner two part play was subtitled A Gay Fantasia on National themes? Tyler? Angels in America? Angels in America? Eric, what did you put for number eight? That's the only pay I know it's Angels in America. The correct answer is Angels in America. You both nailed it for number eight. Well done in a tough theatrical round. We have a scoreboard update after two. At halftime we have Eric. Is it a Hassick or a Haysick. It is a Hassage. It is a Hassi.

So Eric, yeah, Erica Hassick with seven points and Tyler Davis Road with ten. It's ten to seven at halftime. This is lovely, um, all right, So it is ten to seven at half, and we'll take a break right here, and if you guys can regale us with any stories about your actual runs on the days you you had a five game win and a six game win. So we'll start with Eric this time. What is something you remember, something good, batter and different you remember about your

run on the show. I mean, you know, it's just I won six and so the first five or all in the same day, you know, show up, you see there's a sixteen game returning champion, which is terrifying. The first thing you do when you show up is always you know, size enough, who's a defending champ? And then Ryan Lawn Watson and you know they're like, how a games Ryan. He's like, you know, he's a really humble guy. He'sn't our say, and sixteen and so you're like, oh my god, it's over, you know. But yeah,

just somehow beat him and then just it's just a blur. You just keep going and fifteen minutes later you do it again, and then you come back the next day. But a really funny story from that was actually after that fifth game, so like, you know, you just won five game, one hundred thousand bouts of Mad Turner Champions whatever, and I'm waiting like for an uber to get back to the hotel. And I had a really

old craffy like Samsung AS sixteen at the time. The battery last like four hours and I'm there all day, so like the battery like dies while I'm getting an uber. And then I'm like, oh, maybe I asked one of the you know, the parking people for a charger or someone at the studio and and they did me a charger, but liked, I didn't realize Sampson had new chargers with the newer phones compared to like the old craffy ones, so I had to like walk across the street to the gas station to

like buy a cell phone charger. So that was the first thing I bought with my La Jeoffrey money. Meanwhile, while I'm there, Sarah um the producer and formerly of The Clue Drew is like getting gas mob at the gas station in my suit and she's like, oh you okay. I'm like, yeah, I'm fine, don't worry about it, and she's like, oh, I wish I had help, but I'm not allowed to like talk to

you because you're still in a contestant utter control. I just looked at a total idiot in front of Sarah. But yeah, so that was a fun That's awesome. Yeah, you're buying a five dollar charger at a weird gas stations from Sony Studios and run into this Sarah. That's awesome, Tyler, what about you? Yeah, I mean I kind of went in expecting to not win any games and but to have it's like a great experience and leave

us some great memories. I thought I was going to have to face Matamodio, and so when I got there and didn't see Matt, I thought, oh, a window of opportunity. And then they introduced Oh, by the way, this is the guy that beat Matt. He's Jonathan Fisher. He's won ten games himself. But then he loses. He loses the game right before I get called, and it's just like it was. It was like his met So I go and I win the first game. It was a

terrible board for me. It was just a dog fight. And then but I eked it out and I didn't have any guests come with me because this was still very much COVID taping time. So after my third game, because I played Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, UM, I called my then fiance, Well, we're getting married at the end of this month. I called. I called Megan and she's like, well, how did it go? And I go with the short version of the long version, goes a short

version first because she was like at a work conference. Yeah, just a short story. I'm like, yeah, so I won sixty five thousand dollars and I have to come back tomorrow. So that was that was the short story of how I did in Jeopardy Day one. Oh that's great. Yeah, I think I think I was kind of a d bag, but I thought this would be it's one time you get to make these phone calls.

But I made a couple of phone calls to like, you know, my dearest friends and some of my family, and I would start off by being like, well I lost and they were like everyone was always like, hey, buddy, you this is great. Just you getting on this show is amazing. And I was like, yeah, I lost my fourth game and they were like what and I was like, yeah, that means I won games one, two, and three and they're like, you son of a

bitch. Oh my god. Um, but yeah, just one of the I'll never forget that moment of just yeah, like walking to your car, you know, walking to your hotel room, just being like no one knows what just happened to me, Like this great thing ever so cool. Here we go. It is ten to seven round three, the Lightning Round. Eric. You are trailing at the moment, so you can choose first for

a lightning round. Question today. Let's go have some dessert so you today you could choose from either a klondike bar, an ice cream sandwich, or a drumstick. What would you like for dessert sir? Let's go with the Klondike bar. What's what would you do for a Klondike bar. Let's let's find out let's find out. So I'm gonna say the question twice. I'm gonna say go and hit the start button. You're gonna have twenty seconds to

give me as many answers as possible. Tyler, you might want to jop some answers down because I'm gonna come to you straight away with your five second rebuttal. So eric a Hassick, your klondike bar a lightning round. Question goes like this, can you name the best picture Oscar winners from nineteen ninety

one through nineteen ninety nine? So most of the nineties ninety one through ninety nine best Picture Oscar winners twenty seconds on the clock and to go Titanic, Forrest, Jump Show, Sank, Redemption, uh, uh, Star Wars, The Phantom, Menace, uh, the some of those weird early nineties movies which I can't think of. Stop, you got two, you got all right, Yeah, you got Forrest Gump, and you got Titanic.

Of course, Titanic and Forrest Gump. You got um your five second rebuttal to see if you can steal some answers here, Tyler, five second Best Picture Oscar winners from ninety one through ninety nine and a Goo, Dances with Wolves, American Beauty, Shakespeare in Love, Gladiator. Stop you got two. I think you got Shakespeare in Love and American Beauty. I think Dances with Wolves was nineteen ninety, so you missed it by one year. But

you got the last two. You got Shakespeare in Love, which was ninety eight, American Beauty, which was ninety nine, So you got the last three. So let's go over the ones we didn't get. Ninety one was The Silence of the Lambs, one of my favorite films, in ninety one. Then they gave a Western some some love because they haven't given a Western anything for a while. Unforgiven was ninety two. Schindler's List, Schindler's List Horse in ninety three, and then we got Forrest Gump. You got that

Brave Heart. You said, Gladiator. It's like brave hearts right there in that world. Brave Heart. I think I think Gladiator was two thousand, so I think I was. I think I was one year. You had the book Ends um and then the other one that's after Braveheart, in between Braveheart and Titanic, one of my least favorite films. Sorry everybody, but The English Patient also won for Best Picture, and I've given it a couple chances, and I'm like, I am still bored to tears. I do

not like the movie. I'm sorry, but you guys did well. I was that's that's tough to think of stuff in it a decade go, So it's your turn, Tyler in the barrel. You could choose either an ice cream sandwich or a drumstick for your lightning round question. Ice cream sandwich. Let's go ice cream sandwich. So the drumstick, we'll just go back into the hover for a future game. So ice cream sandwich. So I'm gonna

say the question twice. Sego hit the button twenty seconds on the clock, and then I will come to Eric with your five second bottle straight away. So you might want to jot some things down through ice cream sandwich. Question goes like this. Per audyssey dot com, name the top nine best selling musical artists or bands of the nineteen eighties. So a different decade, the nineteen eighties. Peraudyssey dot com, name the top nine best selling musical artists

and or bands of the nineteen eighties. Twenty seconds on the clock and a go share Madonna, wam Blondie, the cars, the police, these rolling stones. You two uh Buran Duran uh uh. Flock of seagulls. Flock of seagulls. Great, you got two. You got Madonna and you two were in the top four. So you got two of the top four. Madonna and you two. There's still some up for grabs. Let's see if Eric can steal some. Prodyssey dot Com name the top nine best selling musical

artists or bands of the nineteen eighties. Five seconds on the clock and go all right. Queen van Halen, talking Heads, Bruce Springstein, Billy Joel Stop, you got two. You stole two. Queen was number five on the list. Bruce Springstein, The Boss was number eight. Um, so you did well in that one as well. He stole a couple of answers. Let's go over the ones we didn't get two. Number one m J. Michael Jackson, of course, with Thriller and Bad Holy Smokes. It

was number one. Number three, you forget he was part of Genesis. Phil Collins rocked the eighties, Phil Collins, Number six, Prince Prince, Yes, oh my god, I'm learning trouble for the Yeah, number seven some hard rock with ac DC had a great decade. I was surprised, but they were number seven on the list, and another hard rock band, bon Jovi, was in the top nine. So let's go over our scores, and he's tabulating our scores. We have a scoreboard update. Erica Hassick

with eleven, Tyler Road with fourteen. It's fourteen to eleven after the lightning round, so it is fourteen to eleven after three. We're here with Tyler Davis Road. You could follow him on social media at Tyler thinks this on Twitter. He's playing for the ASPCA Animal Adoption Center and n why C. And then we're also here with Erica Hassick. You could follow him on social media at Eric Hassick on Twitter. He's playing for the Wilderness Inquiry Charity again

Win or Lose. We're happy to give donations to those two wonderful causes. So let's before we get into our fourth and find a round between you two, let's talk a little bit about the TC and are there any other stories

or anecdotes from that. Tyler start us off with any thoc remembrances. Yeah, it just really felt like going to a high school reunion of a high school that none of us went to because we all kind of knew each other enough and we recognize the other spaces, Like I ran into Brian whom I had met very briefly before in Mattea and Jessica Stevens in the lobby, each checking in, and then we random Adam Moodio taking our COVID tests, so it was just and then we ran into like Megan watch Press and a bunch

of other people who just like out even before we got started, so it really felt like we had all just descended on this block and a half a radius. But it was just great to get to know everybody. Everybody is exactly how they seemed on TV, but just more and better. Like Sam Butchery was did not take any Like he jumped over the row of chairs, I didn't navigate throughout the studio and did fault once and it was kind of but like popped right back up. But yeah, like his finger in a

cast and he like jumped and he wiped out one time. We're just like, oh my god, say he just pops right back off. He's fine. Yeah, he had a broken finger, which I can only assume was some other sort of whimsical accident, but yeah, what a guy Sam Butchery. Yeah, we're hoping to get him, get all of them on the show because yeah, like they're they're just what a what an incredible collection of of folks, Like what a cool shared experience you had to Eric? You

what what do you have to add? Yeah, I mean it was just awesome. I mean, like I was one of the later twelve, like one of the last qualifiers, like Ryan, Maggie and I and so we had kind of kind of watched everyone as I was watching the show and see everyone in the flesh was really cool. Um, they all like the really

fun stories have been covered with the Cherokee Night and um. When like after we got done with the tournament, Amy and one we had we're all just kind of hanging out the hotel having drinks, and um, Amy came a little bit later and she and Genevieve show up and we all just start cheering, and we're just like, oh my god, we just gave away the winner. Oh no, So then we start cheering. Every time someone new to the group would come in, even like random people, we would start

giving them a standing applause, just so we'd throw off the sense. That was a fun one. Another fun story with me and Tyler was we um before. So before they sent my final game, I come down from the hotel and we're wearing like the exact same thing. We having a blue sweater on and a blue tie, and it was like, oh, one of us don't have to change, and it was me um, But I thought that was kind of funny. Yeah, I think I think East Coast asserted

as um over Midwest politeness. I walked into wardrobe and they're like, oh, so Melson's wearing a pretty summer sweater. I'm like, yeah, this will be fine and just kind of walked back out and they made Eric change. So I was I was a game time decision. I wasn't committed, so when they gave me an option to switch, I was like you, oh, yes, it's fun, I'll switch it up. Oh my god, that's awesome. Well thanks for telling us about those stories. It's just

I never tire of it. It's just it's so fun because it is such a weird, awesome, great experience that we all get to be a part of that universe of Jeopardy, the greatest show ever. It is fourteen, two eleven. Let's get back to the game. Round four, The double duty. We call it the double duty because points are doubled, and there are nine questions in this round, so there's eighteen very large points up for

grabs. Today's category in the double duty is twentieth century US history, So we have a history round twentieth century US history for your double duty nine questions. Here is question number one, what is the ADA of nineteen ninety? Can you tell me what the ADA is that came about in nineteen ninety for questions and number one? All right, question number two, we're going to

take it in the wayback machine. On March twenty fifth of nineteen eleven, there was a horrific fire at the Triangle Blank factory, resulting in the deaths of nearly one hundred and fifty young women and girls. Fill in that blank. On March twenty fifth of nineteen eleven, there was a horrific fire at the Triangle Blank factory, resulting in the desk of nearly one hundred and fifty young women and girls. It was so horrific that they made many many changes

fire safety and building safety after this fire. But fill in the blank for number two. Question number three, the birth control pill was approved at the start of what decade. I just want to know what decade the birth control pill was approved at the start of what decade? It was approved in May of what decade? All right, moving things right along to question number four. What Harry was appointed by FDR to head an ergency program to aid the

unemployed during the Great Depression back in nineteen thirty three? Harry? What? So again? For question number four? What Harry was appointed by Franklin Delano Roosevelt to had an emergency program to aid the unemployed during the Great Depression back in nineteen thirty three, Harry who? For number four? Question number five, The Miracle on ice happened in nineteen eighty between the upstart US Olympic Hockey team versus seemingly unbeatable USSR Red Army team. But that wasn't the game that

won the US the gold medal. Who did the US have to beat two days later to claim the gold medal? A lot of people forget that the game against the Russians wasn't the game to win the gold medal. They actually had to go out and beat someone else two days later. Question number six. In nineteen sixty two, who became the first Latina to win an Oscar Award for Best Supporting Actress and question number six in nineteen sixty two, who

became the first Latina to win an Oscar Award for Best Supporting Actress. All right, here we are final three questions in the Double duty Redcliffe Brown. This is a category about twentieth century US history. Question number seven the Seminal Supreme Court case Brown versus the Board of Education. More specifically, it was Oliver Brown versus the Board of Education of what city and state? That's what

I want to know. For question number seven, the Seminal Supreme Court case Brown versus the Board of Education that we've heard about, but more specifically, it was Oliver Brown that was taking on the Board of Education of what city and state? For question number seven. Here we go for question number eight, or next to last question in the double duty round. Two memorable uprisings and or occupations happened at two different prisons in nineteen seventy one? Can you

name them? Two memorable uprisings and or occupations happened at two different prisons in nineteen seventy one? Name them? All? Right? It all comes down to this question number nine. In March of nineteen forty one, the George Washington Carver Museum was dedicated at What School? For question number nine. In March of nineteen forty one, the George Washington Carver Museum was dedicated at What School. For question number nine. All right, pencils down YouTube, gents,

let's go of our answers for the theater double duty Radcliff round. These are all questions about twentieth century US history. Question number one, What is the ADA that came about in nineteen ninety? Tyler start us off? I went with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act? Eric, what did you put for number one? I also had the Americans with Disability Act. It is in fact came out in nineteen ninety excellent thing.

Americans with Disabilities Act that came out in nineteen ninety two. Big points for you both. Question number two. On March twenty fifth, nineteen eleven, there was a horrific fire at the Triangle Blank Factory, resulting in the deaths of nearly one hundred and fifty young women and girls. Eric, what did you do to fill in the blank? I went with the Trible Shirtwaist Factory. Shirt Waist Factory. Tyler, what did you put for number two?

I also said shirtwaist. It's a strange word that we don't hear very much anymore, But it is the triangle shirtwaist factory that caught on fire back in nineteen eleven. Question number three, the birth control pill was approved at the start of what decade? Tyler? I'm gonna guess the nineteen sixties, the nineteen sixties? Eric, what did you put for number three? Yeah? I also want nineteen sixties out of the whole free love debt. Jade, right, Yep, it was approved in May of nineteen sixty. It was

the sixties. You guys are crushing the history round so far. Question number four? What Harry was appointed by FDR ahead an emergency program to aid the unemployed during the Great Depression back in nineteen thirty three? Eric, what did you get from number four? This is one I should have easily overthought, which led me straight before, so I decided not to overthink. Didn't go with Harry Truman. Harry S Truman? Tyler, what did you put?

Very similar to Eric? I originally did not have a guest for this one, but then figured I might as well put Truman, because if I don't put Truman, and it is Truman. I'm gonna feel real dumb, so I went with Harry S. Truman, no harm, no fall. Put Harry S. Truman just as a fail safe. It was one of the most popular things that FDR did to get people out of the Great Depression. This guy became kind of a hero. His name was Harry Hopkins. Harry

Hopkins is the name of that man that FDR appointed. It's a tough question, that's a deep cut, but it is Harry Hopkins for number four. Question number five. The Miracle on Ice happened in nineteen eighty where the US beat the USSR Red Army team. But that wasn't the gold medal game. They still had to beat someone else two days later. Who was it, Tyler, It's been a while since I rewatched a miracle, but I think it was Sweden. Sweden. Good guess Eric, What did you put for

number five? Um, it's one of those Scandinavian ones. But I also went Sweden. Also went Sweden. Yeah, I think Russia in the next game beat Sweden. The US beat Finland. It was that we'd beat so the US finished first because they were doing it by like a weird point total thing. So the US finished first, Russia won the silver, and then like Sweden or Finland won won the bronze. But it was Finland those fins

that we had to beat two days after we beat the Soviet team. Now we know question number six in nineteen sixty two, who became the first Latina to win an Oscar Award for Best Supporting Actress? Eric Um, I want Rita Marino in her name is in the news with the new West Side Stories. Yeah, Rita Moreno for number six? Tyler, what did you put for number six? Since I had declined the clue for this one, I'm gonna feel really dumb if this is not Rita Moreno, it is, in

fact the great Rita Moreno for a West Side Story where she won. That answer deserves a huzzah on Oscar. Back in nineteen sixty two, question number seven the Seminal Supreme Court case Brown versus the Board of Education. More specifically, it was Oliver Brown versus the Board of Education of what city and state? Tyler, First thing that came to my mind was Topeka, Kansas.

So I went with Topeka, Kansas. Topeka, Kansas. Eric, what did you put from number seven was split between Topeka and Lil Roch because I know there's another civil rights in Rod, but topechas the one that suck in my head. So Topeta Kansas the correct answer is in fact in Kansas. It's the capital of Kansas. Topeka, Kansas is the correct answer for number seven. Impressive question number eight two memorable uprising and or occupations happened at two

different prisons in the same year. That year was nineteen seventy one. Can you name them? Eric? All right? Alcatraz was kind of bumping in my head. There someone Alcatraz and then singcing new or Alcatraz and sing sing great guess is Tyler? What did you put? From number eight? I felt good about Attica and then less good about my second guess, which was Leaven worse combined, you guys got the correct answers, but I can't give

it to you both. You had Alcatraz and Attica, both starting with the letter A. Alcatraz and Attaka Attaka were the correct answers, but great guesses on both of those, very very close. Question number nine It comes down to this. In March of nineteen forty one, the George Washington Carver Museum was dedicated at what school? Tyler? I went with Moorehouse Morehouse. Great, guess Eric, what did you put? I went with the Tuskegee Institute.

Yes, he was a teacher. I think he was somewhere else, but then Booker T. Jones or Booker T. Washington actually got him to come to Tuskegee Institute and was there for many, many years. So it was the Tuskegee Institute where they dedicated the George Washington Carver Museum in nineteen forty one. Oh my god, we have a final score after four incredible rounds. We have Eric Ahssic with twenty three and Tyler Davis Rode with twenty four. It was a one point game. Holy smokes, that was awesome.

Twenty four to twenty three. That's how we draw it up. What a great point in round one. So I don't I don't feel like this was an out and out win, just a just so we're clear, you still feel weird about that pity point. You knew both Gilmore girls, you knew that's great? Yeah, twenty four to twenty three, So Tyler wrote, okay, if I could go back, though, I actually think that Eric also knew both third names. Because I think Rory is short for Laura Lie.

So I think both of their names are both Laura lie. Ah. That's true. That's true. Judges, Judges, we have to have a winner. We'll see, Tyler Davis Road, you are, in fact the smartest person in the world for one week. We're happy to give donations to both the Wilderness Inquiry and the ASPCA Animal Adoption Center NYC. But the game is not over. The final throwdown, Tyler, you have first crack at

an answer. We'll let Eric chime in here. I'll throw in an answer, and then we're gonna learn a little something something about this question and answer that Annie comes up with. So Annie, without further ado, reveal the final throwdown question. I'll read it to the world here and then well, we'll start our discussion here. Who was Who is the world's most successful pirate? It's an interesting question. Who was considered the world's most successful pirate?

Not my wheelhouse? I'm gonna start off the discussion with not my wheelhouse. Uh, well, it's it's a little bit more in my wheelhouse. But I don't I don't know how we keep measuring most successful. I know we'll find out. I'm gonna go with I'm gonna go with kids. I'm gonna go Captain Kid, Captain Kid. That's a that's a good guess, Eric, you got anything to throw in here? I feel like this this is set to a philosophical discussion about what defines a pirate. Right, we're going

by, you know, our kind of pirates of go Blackbeard? Name there, that's what I was thinking. Black beards? So we got h Yeah, what what was yours? Tyler? I'm with Kid. I'm considering Calicopa, Jack and a couple of people, but I'm gonna just stick with Kid. Okay, we got captain Captain Kid, we got Blackbeard, and then I'll go with Barbara Rossa. Is that a pirate? Red Beard? Barbarossa Redbeard? All right? I think we got some basses covered. I think

I think my guess is probably the worst one. But let's find out who is considered the most successful pirate. So any revealed the answer. Let's learn a little something something about this. Here we go, Holy cow, this is ching She is the pirate would also accept Xang Yee Sao also known as so Ching She or zang Ye Sao. Let's learn about this in her early days, she was a prostitute on a floating brothel. She married Chang the First, a commander on the Red Flag fleet and active pirate. He died

six years into their marriage. She commanded over eighteen hundred pirate ships and eighty thousand men. Black Beard, in comparison, commanded only four ships and three hundred, so ching She or Zang Yee Sao is one hell of a pirate. I will not soon forget that unbelievable good question, Annie Jans. It

was so lovely to meet you guys and have you on the show.
