Hello, You Should Know Better fans. As you may or may not know, sag Aftra, the union I am a proud member of, as well as many of our guests, has gone on strike. Part of adhering to this work stoppage is that we cannot promote TV shows and films that are covered in this contract dispute, so we are going to hold off on releasing any

new episodes until the strike is over. We don't want to get anyone in trouble, but we will be reposting some of our favorite Jeopardy Champs episodes from yesteryear, and as always, feel free to listen to any of our previous fifty plus pods. We thank you for your support and understanding, and hopefully we will be back real soon with some new and entertaining season two episodes of

But as for right now, let's jump right into some questions and answers with our first of four rounds today, our General Knowledge Round Round one, General Knowledge Thinking caps on, gentlemen, pencils Ready, away we go, General Knowledge

Round. There are eight questions in this round. Here is question number one, kind of a strange sports question, what two teams met at the Euro twenty twenty finals that were held at Wembley Stadium even though they actually played this match last year in the summer of twenty twenty one. Thank you COVID. Should we admit our complete lack of knowledge of football slash soccer at this point and the fact that we're just naming two teams that we've I gave you a

clue with European, so you got it's sort of me. You might have a chance help. I've been known to ignore categories, so I might just go Brazil. That question once again. What two teams met at the Euro twenty twenty Finals at Wembley Stadium, even though they actually played this match in the summer of twenty twenty one. Name those two teams? All right? That was question number one in the general knowledge on question number two is a

little television action. Another number question. I need you to name three of the four Golden Girls, just their first names, their characters names. I don't need their actress names. Three of the four Golden Girls name their character first names. I need three of the four for you to get the point that is of the age that I did watch it a lot so and it's

spin off Empty Nests. That's right, every eighties sitcom I watched basically, Yeah, all right, that is question number two of eight in your general knowledge around here is question number three, a little world geography. What is the capital of the South American country of Pottaguay or Paraguay or Potaguay. Name

that world capital for Potaguay. I like that so far, Andy, you have fully told me if you got the question right or not just based off of like I've never heard of soccer before, or I used to watch all of the Golden Girls. Is that going to matter later whether we I'm not going to playing things most of the best as it turns out. Question number four. Question number four is a mute question. Miss Natalie Merchant, before

going solo, was the lead singer for what band? Natalie Merchant. We've all heard her voice before she went solo and sang on a bunch of other people's albums. She was the lead singer of an alternative band of the nineties. Name that band. We're halfway home in the general knowledge round, We're already halfway home. Four more questions to go. Question number five is literature.

A little literature question for you. I need the author that wrote the following novels, Narcissus and Goldman, Steppenwolf, and The Glass Bead Game. This author wrote these three books, plus a bunch of others. But I just need the author's name. Last name will do again. Those books that this author wrote were Narcissus and Goldman, Steppenwolf, and The Glass Bead Game. Name the author. All right, that was question number five. We're

on to question number six. This is the question about the human body. Question number six the islets of languor hans that help metabolize glucose are located in what organ? What organ of the human body? Would you find the islets of languor Hans and those are things that help metabolize glucose. For number six, man, if you were just like an early anatomous and just like name in parts, like why wouldn't everything be like something like islets of langer Hans.

Ah, it's your name is langer Hans e meter just because the funness of just because like that's a cool like who knows if it's a place or it's a body part or you know, state of mind exactly. It is pretty good. Moving on to number seven, question number seven in your general knowledge round of you should know better, Lacroix sparkling water originated in what US state? What US state? Did Lacroix originate from? Lac always sparkling water.

After spending most of my covid um with a recycling Ben's way too full of those fans, I finally went to soda stream. Finally got my first soda stream. It. It's pretty great. Get those drops to a little flavor. Uh, fantastic. Maybe they'll sponsor us if we talk about them enough. You hear that soda stream. Uh, bunch of nerds talking about carbonated beverages. Let's go, Come on, it's really going to help your bottom line. Oh yeah, so that was question number seven, your penultimate

question in round one the general knowledge round. Lacroix sparkling water originated in what US state? A one and fifty chance. There you go. Question number eight, your final question in round one? What outspoken? And A literative anthropologists studied the nonliterate people of Oceania. That's a weird word to say, ocean Oceaniacea, Oceania. What outspoken and a? Literative anthropologists studied the nonliterate people of Oceania? Do you guys need any repeats? Do you need any

more time? I feel good about what I feel good about? That's good that. I hope you got some of them right. If you did, we're off to a great start. But before we get to those answers, folks playing along at home, let's meet our stupendous guests. Very excited to have both of these gents here. Will start with this gentleman who has lived all over the place and is now residing in a very warm climb of Joshua

Tree, California. He is a writer. He was a four time Jeopardy champion, and he was in the most recent Tournament of Champions as a quarterfinalist. Mister Andy Wood is here. Welcome Andy, thank you for having me. Very excited to do this. It's awesome to have a rematch and read it to your opponent in a second. What charity are you playing for today,

Andy, I'm playing for against Malaria. It's a pretty great bang for your buck charity because the human cost of malaria is so high and it's very easily low word with just the simple purchase of nets, So your money goes a long way when you donate to that cause. Fantastic, it's great to have you here. We'll talk a little bit more about your Jeopardy journey and the charity you're playing for throughout the game. But let's move on to your

opponent. This is a rematch from the Tournament of Champions. I believe did you guys face off in the quarterfinals? Yes, we did based off in the quarterfinals. This gentleman is an educator from the mean streets of Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was a five time champ. He's always one upping Andy. He's always one upping him. He's a five time Jeopardy champion and he was the actual winner of last year's Tournament of Champions. Mister Sam Kavanaugh is here.

Sam Kavanaugh is here. Welcome Sam, Thank you for having me. Oh yeah, and what charity are you playing for today? I'm playing for a media group called Unicorn Riot, which is like a decentralized group of reporters who I think do a lot of very good reporting that maybe other media groups don't, especially living here in Minnesota, a lot of stuff going on, and they do a good job covering. Fantastic two great charities, two great

champions. We're going to talk all about their journeys before, during, and after their runs on Jeopardy. But it's great to have Sam Kavanaugh and Andy Wood in this rematch, this grudge match again. It's great to see you both. All right, let's go over your answers for round one. We

had that very strange question number one. It was a sports question, but it was dealing with Euro twenty twenty that was held in the summer of twenty twenty one last summer, and that question was what two teams met at the Euro twenty twenty finals that were held at Wembley Stadium in London, England, Thank you COVID. Sam, what did you put for number one? They had Italy and England? Italy and England, Andy Wood, what did you

put for number one? I said, Chester United in Madrid, Rayale, I've not been following at all, So that's those are great guesses, UEFA Championships all that stuff, but this is more of like a World Cup thing, so it is in fact Italy versus England for all the marbles. England gets to play at home at Wembley. So Sam takes the lead. One nothing. That's one question. Andy, hang in there, buddy, Yep, here we go. This is your wheelhouse question number two. Name three

of the four Golden Girls. I think you got all four, so we'll start with Andy. What did you put for number two? I just chose Dorothy, Rose and Sophia only because I wasn't sure if Blanche had an E on the end or not. Sam, what did you put for number two? I can only come up with Rose and Blanche, Rose and Blanche. Yep, that's that is tough. Yeah, Dorothy and Sophia were the other

two. So we have Dorothy, Blanche, Rose and Sophia. We had be Arthur Rue mcclenahan, Betty White, and Estelle Getty playing those golden girls. Still Getty who is younger than the Arthur playing her mother? Yeah yeah. Question number three, moving right along to our answers to round one, our general knowledge round. What is the capital of Paraguay? Sam Kavanaugh? What did you put? I put Asuncione? Andy looks pissed? Andy, what did you put? If? No excuse? There's not that many South

American countries. Um, I think this is a capital of some South American country, But I might have had a syllable wrong. Paramaribo. Which country is that? Sam para Maribo is? That's saram I believe? Okay, it's out of three. Yeah, you were in the right neck of the names. But a Suncione is the answer. That answer deserves a huzzah. Asuncion Paraguay, it's it's it's a lesser known one. People miss that one quite a bit. Asuncion as the capital of Paraguay. Question number four.

Natalie Merchant, before going solo, was the lead singer for what band? Andy would these are the days? To show you that it was ten thousand maniacs. That is a great guess, Sam Cavanaugh, what did you put? I got nothing. I knew her name and that was it. So

yeah, maybe had the unplugged album. It was the ten Thousand Maniacs ten Thousand Maniacs Great nineties alternative band led by the vocal stylings of Miss Natalie Merchant number five, who wrote Narcissistant, Goldman, Steppenwolf and The Glass Bead Game. Sam, I believe it was Herman Hesse, Herman Hesse, Andy you got Did you get it as well? Though? Did you get the right answer? Herman Hassa, one of my favorite authors of all time. You

both get it. Both circles get the square. Question number six. The islets of langer Hans, one of the cooler names for a body part that helped metabolize glucos, are located in what organ Andy, as weird Al taught us. I believe it's the pancreas he put the pancreas. Do you agree with pancreas? Do you agree with pancreas? It is your pancreas that you would find the islets of langer Hans. Question number seven. Lacroix sparkling water originated in what US state? Sam? What did you put for this one?

This was mostly guess. I put Wisconsin. It's a good guess, Andy Wood, what did you put? SAME's ease. They are known for their cheeses as well. Wisconsin. Lacroix in Wisconsin is good. You guys got it correct. Wisconsin is yours? I mean Lacroix Wisconsin. I just like city. Never knew that. I was thinking Sam might have the leg up being from Minnesota, next next door neighbor. But yeah, Lacroix Wisconsin connection. I was born in Minnesota, so that connections. Its baptizing Lacroix.

Yah, that's how they do it in Minneapolis. Finally, question eight, your final question for round one in your General Knowledge round, what outspoken and a literative anthropologists studied the nonliterate people of Oceania? Andy, what did you put based on a literation alone? I was thing it was Margaret Meade. Margaret Mead, that's a literation. Sam, do you agree? I agree? Miss Margaret Meade is your answer? Great job, Jence, that was good. See you don't you don't have to be so as scared as

you were at the beginning. You both did well. We'll go over your scores for round one out of those first eight, it's six to six. We got a tie ball game, six to six. It's anyone's game. But before we get into round number two, which is our pop culture grab bag, I wanted to talk to you guys a little bit about your Jeopardy journey. We'll start with you Andy. Just what was it like to get on the show, How long did it take? How long have you been

trying to get on the show. When did you become a fan of the show, all that stuff. I guess it also lines up with eighties TV watching. I was a fan from the beginning. My first tape I ever owned was Weird Alan three D, which has I Lost on Jeopardy on it. And that album came out a few months before the Trebec reboot in like early eighty four, so all the references of the art fleming on part of

years. And you know, I had a chip on my shoulder as like a nerdy kid who considered himself smart if whatever, and so yeah, I wanted to like prove myself. I couldn't prove myself in athletics or other things, but I was like, I got to get in Jeopardy. So in ninety three, I drove out from ann Arbor to Milwaukee to the nearest in person tryouts for the team tournament and immediately limitated just that first fifty question round. They're like, okay, goodbye ninety five percent of you, and I

was like, oh, that's it. I'm driving home, okay. And then I gave up for about twenty seven years, and then started trying out again in I think late twenty nineteen. So I took a I took two of the online tests, and one of those two got me to the next round, which I then did from here in my house in Joshua Tree. So the second third rounds were all just zoom based, which is really weird, and sort of thought that would be the end of it. I got a call that they want to be on in three weeks, so I had

to start cramming on capitals, which I've already forgotten. And that is awesome. Sam, What about you? What was your journey to get on the show, and like did you start watching the show and all that stuff? I started as a kid growing up in Northern Minnesota. I had an Australian mother and she would always have it on when I got home from schools Around

normally around four thirty. I think it jump time slots a few times, but watch it every day and like, I, you know, have a knack for that trivia sort of things, and just like I'm curious about everything. But I eventually, when I was in college, tried out a few times for the college tournament, got to a round of auditions then and just bombed it. I did so bad, like and that was fine, Like

I wasn't ready. I you know, did the online tests pretty much any chance I got after that, and eventually got through the auditions in twenty seventeen, and you know, took a day off work. I had to lie to my boss until when I was sick to fly to Chicago and take that that test and the audition, and you know, as you know that, they tell you what, we'll call you sometime in the next next eighteen months if we want you and won't call you for you don't. And so it's

like, okay, well what do I do now? You know? Yeah, you just have that window like eighteen months, just sit by your phone and wait for all or start the whole process over again. If you don't hear from us. It's so you can have two babies in that time and so yeah, but yeah, I actually got the call shortly after that window,

so I was not prepared at all. I was in Australia visiting family, the middle of a hike and a overnight camp, had to find then they got the voicemail and had I got the message from the producer who said call me a three or whatever in the Pacific time, and I did the math. I'm like, oh shit, that's five in the morning here and

I'm in the middle of the woods. So I had to get up middle of the night, climb to the top of a hill where I can have a little bit of cell service and called California and it's like, hey, can you be here in three weeks. I'm like, I'm on the other side of the world, but yeah, you know, we're leaving the days. And I kind of, you know, squeaked through a few games in that round and during those first five games. Then I had two years off to prep for the two see, and it's really didn't do it. Yeah,

it's again. We'll talk a little bit more about Yeah, your your time on the show and you if you have any Elex Trebeck stories after this next round. But yeah, it's just everyone's got a different journey to even get on the show. Or some people are just like, oh yeah, I took the test once and boom I was on. Other people like myself, it was twenty plus years of taking the test and being like a never, I'm never going to get on. Are you gents ready for Round number

two? Yes? Yes, so excited Sam can't control himself. Round number two is your pop culture grab Bag. Round two pop culture grab Bag. Today, we're gonna be doing best selling books. I'm going to give you the year that this book was either the or like top two best selling book of that year. I'll give it like a little synopsis or a clue, and the year. You just need to give me the title of that best selling book. There are eight questions in this round, just like round one.

I did not know that was this one of the questions.

In the wake of her own murder, Susie Salmon Salmon watches from above how her once happy suburban family has torn apart from grief in this Alice Sebold best seller for number eight. Let's go

through our answers for around number two. Which was your pop culture grab bag? These were best selling novels or books. Question number one, nineteen seventy Love means never having to say you're sorry. We'll start with Andy, what did you put for number one? But the love story things like is that him making stuff up? I don't know. I've seen the footage of him and Tip or kissing at the convention or whatever, and

it's like, okay, I can believe that. I don't want it, but I get it. That's a love story right there. Nineteen seventy five. This James A. Mishner work celebrating the rich history of the American West. Mister Kavanaugh, there's so many Mitcheners. I don't even know if this is a reallye centennial. Centennial is a great guest, Andy Wood? What did you put for number? Time? Almost certain this is a Larry McMurtry book. But I just lonesome dove. That's not the right answer. The

correct answer is centennial. Pulling it out of his rump in the nick of time. It is centennial. Ever heard of it? It was published. I might be wrong on this, but it was published on like the centennial of the state of Colorado. Statehood. Yeah, something about that, something like that. James A. Mishner, Yeah, he's written a million books,

but it is centennial. Great pull. Question number three nineteen eighty A shooting victim suffering from amnesia finds himself with a Swiss bank account in the name of Jason Bourne Andy Wood. Which one did you pick? I think it's just the Bourne identity, Sam. Do you agree with that or do you have a different It is the first one, just like in the movies The Born Identity by Robert Ludlum. That's a trivia question that comes up quite a

bit. I think it's like Jason Bourne, Robert Ludlam, Robert Ludlam, Jason Bourne. Know those two things and you'll answer a lot of questions right. Question number four nineteen eighty five Stephen King Penn this collection of chilling tales that takes its name from the minimum number of personnel needed to operate and maintain an item, like a business organization or ship. Sam, Skeleton Crew, Andy, do you agree with that? I do. It is the Skeleton

This book opens with Gabriel and slid Deane, the soul survivors of a terrorist airline bombing falling into the Atlantic Ocean, Andy Wood, what is your guess? Oh, this is that heist movie called Oceans Too. That answer deserves a SPU. That is fantastic, Sam Kavanaugh, what did you put the Satanic Versus? The correct answer is the book that put a hit

on Salomon Rushdie. It is the Satanic Versus. That's the plot of that book. I had no idea how it opens. It's on my shelf. It's on my shelf somewhere. I have not read it yet, but it's on my to do list. But but Oceans Too, God damn, that's a great half point. I will I will, I will consider a half point for for entertainment value. That was fantastic. Question number six, nineteen ninety three, A photographer, a farm wife, the heat of an Iowa

summer, and blah blah blah. What did you work for this, Sam, Because the Bridges of Madison County, Andy Wood, what did you put? I concur yes, the book by Robert James Waller, that is The Bridges of Madison County Question number seven, nineteen ninety seven. I was having a holly between two frigid titles and I'm hoping. It's cold Mountain, Cold Mountain is your answer, Sam Kavanaugh? What did you put? I agree the correct answer is frozen. No, it's cold, cold Mountain is the answer. Question number eight, two thousand and two. In the wake of her own murder, Susie Salmon watches from above of how her once happy suburban family is torn apart from grief. In this Alice Sebold best seller, Sam, what did you put this book that you've read The Lovely

Bones The Lovely Bones, Andy what did you put for number eight? Also put that, but I was hoping Sam didn't have it. He did pull it out at the last second. It is The Lovely Bones. I feel like I think everyone read that book. It was a great book. The movie. No I was. I was stuck between that and Winter's Bone. So that's really funny. Both of your brains were just had Winter's Bone in your head from Cold Mountain or The Lovely Bones. That makes a lot of

sense movie Bones. Yeah, yeah, well let's make that movie the three of us. Let's put our heads together. Awesome. So our scores, we have an update in our scores after round two. We're at the halfway point. Andy has twelve after round round two and Sam Kavanaugh Tournament of Champions champion Sam Cavanaugh has fourteen. It's fourteen to twelve. Anybody's game? Yeah, Sam, that was a clean slate in round two. Correct? You got all of them? Nerd? Oh my god, Nerd to learn read

a book before? Come on, look like we got ourselves. A Reata does a funny joke by the comedian Bill Hicks, the late great Bill Hicks. Who is He's reading somewhere and someone's like, what you're reading for, like what you're reading for? Or maybe so I don't end up a waitress at at Cracker Barrel. Uh yeah, what a weird question to ask anyone what you're not what are you reading? What are you reading for? Wow?

Fantastic. So you guys were lucky enough to play Jeopardy, you had your runs of four and five wins with Alex trebec as still still as the host of our beloved show, our favorite, very our very favorite show. Um, do you have any tales or stories from your time on the show of mister Alex Trebeck. We'll start with you, Sam. I remember being really nervous to meet him. You know, he's been in my living room for my entire life, and you know, he was that finger right,

he was Walter Cronkite of modern era. And then just actually meeting him and it was like, oh no, this like he had just that calling a fact at least on me, where he just like he clearly wanted everyone to do well and he wanted us to put on a good show. And he said I think at the end of my first one he used the term very impressive and I just ran with that for the next two years. That was that's all you need. That's all I needed. It didn't even need to

send me any money. I mean they did. I was very happy for that. Dude. Yeah, the money is a weird You sometimes forget about it because I did the same thing when I'm Andy, you probably did as well. We're like, getting on the show was the goal. We we all did that. We all did well. We all won a game, which again just like blew my'm after the first win, and I was like, I could leave right now and be the happiest I bucket list. It's

all good. And then you're like, oh shit, that's right. I'd like, in the next one hundred and twenty days, they're going to send me a check in the ll of a lot of money for knowing you know, it's not oceans too, it's I think versus knowing that money that Yeah. So do you have any stories Andy with with our beloved Alex Trebek.

Yeah. I'll second what Sam said about just the professionalism Walter cronkite ism, because as everyone's probably talked about, he can't really pale around with people very much, so there aren't like a lot of like everyone wants to hear a story of you like backstage down shooting the ship. But yeah, he was just such a pro, Like I was amazed, I did a whole tape day. I did Monday through Friday, so it was five episodes in a day, and like he only he only had to do one pick up.

It's because he rewrote a question himself on the fly, Like he just nailed it. And he was sick at that time. And you know, it was a weird time with no audience, which he acknowledged in one of the conversations we had at the end of the game. He talked about how like, you know, normally this is more fun for all of us, he

was saying, which I'm sure is true. So he was you could tell he was a little bummed at this situation for taping, but it didn't it didn't impact his performance and his ability to help bring out the best and everyone. And there was also like this sort of like I can't think of what the appropriate sports we've met movie metaphor is, but like during one of the stopdowns for commercial, the stage manager said to him in a way that we weren't supposed to hear, but we just could hear. You know, if

basically, if you need to stop, just let us know. You don't, you don't, you don't have to be doing this, because he was six weeks from when he would pass away at this point, and Alex just sort of like said, Nope, we're gonna keep going. And I just like and then as soon as the cameras were on, if you hadn't known

he was at all ill, you wouldn't have guessed it, right. I've heard numerous stories from either contestants or crew or the Clue crew people were telling stories of just like, yeah, there was days where before they you know, the show went on and the cameras were on, he was in his you know, in his green room or his dressing room, and he was just like on the floor and like, but once it was like god, boom, he could go still doing multiple shows, five shows in a day,

and again still being affable and hilarious and articulate and making everyone feel good and making jokes and making fun of people, making fun of himself, and like he never let on of how sick he was. And his legend just grows, and I think it'll continue to grow. He'll become even a bigger mythic figure because we all know it's like Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. They're two weird shows that have lasted this long and they're showing no signs that they're

ever going to slow down. And it's like, well, thanks for those stories, gents, that's so awesome to hear about that and your time. And we'll talk about the Tournament of Champions after our next round, because that was another special time and a special group and a special champ by the way, but we'll get into that after around three. Round three, it's fourteen to twelve going into round three. This is our dubious lightning round. Round

three, the lightning round. Oh my god, adds sound effects, insert thunderbolts and whatnot. This is our lightning round. It's a little bit different round than our other three rounds. Andy, you are trailing by two points, so you'll get to choose from these categories. Now I've given these three random things to choose from instead of one, two, three or ABC,

so they have nothing to do with the question nor the answers. But you can pick either Mike Tyson's Punch Out, Street Fighter two or Mortal Kombat. Those are your category titles that you can choose from. Again, these are going to be three random questions, open ended. You get to choose what's your name your poison. I'm gonna say, get over here and give me that Mortal Kombat, A Mortal comp Yes, wise choice, my friend, Mortal Kombat. Right. So I'm going to put twenty seconds on the clock.

Sam, you pay attention for your five second rebuttal, which is going to come immediately after this. So I'm going to repeat the question twice, say go, and then hit the button on my phone here for the twenty seconds to start. So I need for you, Andy Wood, the top eleven largest fast food chains by number of locations. I need the top eleven largest fast food chains by number of locations, and go Subway, McDonald's, Wendy's, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Carl's Junior, Hardy's, Sonic Del

Taco, Arby's, Burger King, Popeyes Stop Stop. Popeyes was not one of them, but you did get Subway, McDonald's, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and win these five second rebuttal, Sam Kavanaugh, and go KFC Long John Silver's Stop. You got KFC. You pulled off KFC, so we got Sam stole one, but Andy did well and you got Subway, McDonald's, Burger King, Pizza, Hunt, Taco Bell, and Wendy's. So you got six six to one and you're part of the

lightning round. The ones we didn't get to. And this is kind of a tricky one because they're considered fast food. Starbucks and Duncan are considered fast food, so they're on the list. So we had Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts. I don't believe anyone said Dominos. They're everywhere. Domino's pizza the weirdest one of all. And again I think we we've looked this up in the past. Hunt Brothers Pizza. Have you guys ever been to a Hunt Brothers.

I don't know. Maybe it's in like one state and they're just like on every corner something, but they're there's a ton of there's thousands of them. Um, I had never heard of that. So I guess in a certain part of the United States there are a lot of Hunt Brothers pizzas. Is that related to Hunt's ketchup? You think? I don't. Again, it's just Hunt Hunt Brothers Tennessee, Tennessee area. And he's saying, so like maybe in Tennessee Hunt Brothers are like Starbucks in there on every corner.

So good job, Andy, six to one in your part of the Lightning Round with Mortal Kombat. Good choice now, Sam, it's up to you. You have two choices now, Mike Tyson's punch out or street Fighter two for your Lightning Round question. Oh, let's go Mike Tyson for sure. Mike Tyson's punch out? Are you going to be Glass Joe? Are you gonna be Piston? Honda King, hippo? He was great. Punch him

in the belly until his pants fall down. That was the best. All right, here's your question, Mike Tyson's punch out in the Lightning round. All right, I'm gonna again Andy, you stand by for your rebuttal. Sam, I'm gonna repeat the question twice and then say go. There are eleven actresses that have been nominated for an Oscar seven plus times. These are all actresses that have been nominated for an Oscar seven or more times and Ago Meryl Streep, Amy Adams, Um claim close, Uh, Katherine Hepburn,

Um no, Yola Davis, Um stop. You got three? You got Meryl Streep, Katherine Hepburn, and Glenn Close. Andy, your five second rebuttal starts now. Uh, Audrey Hepburn, um um um, Frances McDormand Julia Moore Stop stop stop. So Andy could not steal one on that. Sam got three. That was tough. But when you hear some some of these you'll be like, I don't know who that is, but some of these you're not going to get. Betty Davis. She's got Betty Davis eye.

She was nominated for a bunch. You did get Meryl Street, Katherine Hepburn and Glenn Close. They were very at top. Geraldine Page. I don't know a lot of Geraldine Page movies, but she was nominated a bunch. I think back in the day, Ingrid Bergman, Kate Blanchette, She's she's firing on all cylinders, Kate Blanchette. Jane Fonda has been nominated a bunch, she's won, She's won a few and been nominated a lot. Dame Judy Dench, I was gonna, all, why didn't I start with

that? But you can only play queens or cats, I guess, but I feel like if she plays any type of queen, she's up there. Um Greer Garson is another old school one. She's in like how green was my valley and movies of that nature. I think back in the day Kate Winslet. Kate Winslet has been nominated for more than seven oscars already incredible mayor of Easttown. So let's go through our scores we had the Mortal Kombat was really good to you, Andy, Andy got six in that round. Sam

got four. So look at that. Guess what the scores are. I have a tie ball game eighteen to eighteen going into our final round. This is exactly how I drew it up. Fantastic. That was your lightning round. So the other one Street Fighter two, that question will just go back in the hopper for a future game. We'll never know if that would be better or worse in the lightning round. It is a different way to use our brains. But it is eighteen to eighteen before we get into our final

round. Let's talk a little bit about the Tournament of Champions and what a special group of people. What was your personal experience of the whole Tournament of Champions. We'll start with Andy. It was a very strange sort of shared trauma, because I mean both my regular season games and this were during COVID,

So you know, very strange protocol calls. You're extra isolated, and the day of the taping was obviously very stressful, and we don't know when various people are gonna get drawn, and we can't have any devices, so you can bring a book in. But like, we're all just kind of sitting in the stands of Wheel of Fortune stage, staring at a tarped over wheel, sitting ten seats apart from each other, trying to pass eight hours.

But in that time we actually had a fair amount of fun. It sort of Ben sort of became the camp counselor of the group because he's a teacher, and so yeah, it was it was fun in spite of being

very stressful. I remember standing in line six feet apart near Sam and one of the maybe when we were doing those like poses that they never used or something, and getting to get to know him a bit, and he was at some point doing push ups, which I remember respecting a lot, just to keep the blood pop big, like you got to do something to deal

with all this extra pent up adrenaline. And then once you're out there, it's just a whirlwind like always, except the players are even better, and sometimes it just gets away from you, and I felt like I enjoyed the Jeopardy round that I did not enjoy the double Jeopardy round. And then I spent you know, a month dwelling on what I could have done differently.

But two months after that, now the memories are all just positive. And now I have this group of sixteen friends that we stay in touch with it and play trivia and we remember that like as soon as it ended, sort of quickly went back to remembering, oh, we all got here because we

actually love trivia. So yeah, overall, it's very positive. But it is a very interesting thing that is a and even the producers talk about how this is sort of a shared trauma that you go through and then you also have to stay silent about it for a month afterwards, so oh, you only have the other contestants to share these experiences with. So it's a very bizarre. Yeah, it's one of the highlights of my life, but also

one of the most stressful days I can remember in my life. I can imagine, like again, I brought a book too, and I read the same sentence over and over a Jeneba thousand times. I am not going to retain any of this because I can't concentrate on this book, but yeah,

it is a weird thing. And I think with the COVID protocols, it's like they were doing everything by the book and everyone was tested and everyone was staying apart and wearing a mask, so it was harder to be chummy with with anybody, which was, you know, a little bit of a bummer.

But again, I love that there's this community, um that we're really trying to start, and I know there's a big Facebook group and what you guys have done with the Tournament of Champions folks, is like that gives me hope that we can befriend this like you know, this weird sorority or fraternity that we have of being on our favorite show. Um, Sam, what was it like for you the Tournament of Champions? It was it was pretty

good? No, I mean I yeah, I want to echo Annie and some of that of it was it's one like super surreal, but I mean I was. I was very impressive once again by everyone who's working there and just like it made it there run that track or run the train right on the track. I I want to say no that with Andy, like you're you were saying just like that the level of nerves building up while you're waiting. A couple of things with that one is one where I was so nervous.

That was really our practice day the first Monday UM and when they introduced Buzzy as the host and he comes out, we do like he wanted to do a little bit more reps than than I had with when Alex was the host, and my for that one, mya, my legs were just like actually shaking and I had to hold on to the electorn studying myself, and it was it was all quite a bit better for the for the actual taping.

But like with with Andy, when you were there, like I always saw you as being like so cool and collected on stage and then well no, but then you you were expressing while we're all sitting there. You're just like, man, I'm just freaking out because we were all freaking out. It's just like you're contained and you can't do anything about it. And then I was like, okay, maybe I have a little bit of a shot.

And then we get up there and then you're just like it just locks in for you and I'm like, oh shit, And then you kind of didn't You just kind of stop all over me in that first round and it was so it's like, you know, I was glad I could get those almost back to back day doubles as Oh yeah, yeah, it was just

an incredible tournament. I can't wait again. And like I'm I'm slowly but surely befriending all of all of you guys, and now that you guys are all in cohoots with each other, I'm excited to have each and every one of them come back on and and bring one of their friends or enemies from the Tournament of Champions and have these grudge matches or rematches because it's, uh, it's too fun. Oh, there's the belt, kind of do it. He's showing the belt. You can't see it at home, but there

is a Jeopardy Championship belt that's like a wrestler's belt. It's got Sam Kavanaugh's name on it. Yeah it was again. Yeah, if you go to his Twitter at Sam Underscore Kavanaugh. I want to see like a picture, like a day or a picture a week of just like the different places I want you, like at a food ruckers, I want it. I want you wearing the belt to a wedding. Um all all the things. Um, you can follow Andy Wood as well on the social media Twitter and Instagram

at Andy t Would. That's Andy t Would on the social media stuff. And yeah, thanks for sharing all of your stories about Jeopardy Fellows. It's it's so nice to humanize you guys even a little bit more. But what a pleasure and surprise to have you guys on. It's just been it's been lovely. And look at that. We're tied at eighteen going in to our final round, which is the Theodore Double Duty Radcliff round Round four. The

double Duty points are doubled. It's anyone's game. They're eighteen big points on the board in round for your final round of you should Know Better, and this is the theme round. I think this is the first time we're doing a theme round, and I hope to do it again down the road. But this is how it works. The first eight questions of this round are going to be kind of general knowledge. Question Question nine will be what is

the theme? So you should see the theme within your answers. So if you can find out what the theme is early on, it should help you answer your questions and vice versa. If you start getting a lot of these answers, it should tell you what the theme is. So they help each other, so one can help the other. So if you don't know it right away, you might get it by figuring one of these things out. So do you have any questions? Gentlemen? Are you ready? Ready?

Eighteen all, as we enter the double duty Radcliff round. Here's question number one one out of nine? Who is the host on NBC's The Voice. Who is the host not the coaches? Who is the host of NBC's The Voice. I don't need the coaches names the host? Question number two? Who was the first ever African American heavyweight champion in boxing? Who was the first ever African American boxing champ heavyweight boxing champ? Last name will Suffice?

Name the first ever African American heavyweight champion in boxing for number two? Question number three is a layup for you? For you two, I believe the Basilica della Segrada Familia is located in what city? I need the name of the city where the Basilica de la Segrada Familia is located anim that city for number three. Now, in the Lightning round, we had a little tip of the cap to some video games that we probably played a little bit during

our younger years. Question number four. In that same world, the four ghosts in pac Man were Blinky Pinky inky, and then this one. I will give you a clue. It does not rhyme with the first three. The four ghosts in the pac Man franchise were Blinky Pinky inky, and then named the fourth? Who is the fourth ghost in the pac Man franchise?

Question number five, Question number five out of nine in the final round here, James Duhan famously portrayed what character and chief engineer on the original Star Trek James Duhan famously portrayed what character and chief engineer on the original Star Trek TV series? That is your question number five. Again, this is a theme round, so look within your answers to try to come up with that theme. If you figure out the theme, it could help you answer some of

these questions you might not know right away. Question number six is a geography question. Aman am m A n is the capital city of what country? Aman is the capital of what country? Four number six. Question number seven, we're going to the movies. We're going to the movie What actor lost an incredible amount of weight to portray the skeletal main character in the independent film The Machinist. What actor lost a tremendous amount of weight to portray the skeletal

main character in the independent film The Machinist. We're getting down to it. This is your final kind of general knowledge question because number nine is going to be what is the theme of this round? So question number eight is this on Sesame Street name the full bodied Muppet dog that peeled around with Big Bird. So one word name on Sesame Street. Name the full bodied Muppet dog that palled around with Big Bird. And then question number nine is what is

the theme of the Theodore Double Duty Radcliff Round? Your theme round? Who? This seems like a tough one, so this could be anyone's game points or double in this round. Let's go through our answers in the Double Duty Radcliff round. Question number one, who is the host of NBC's The Voice Sam What did you put? I wish I had a TV? I don't know? Carson Daly? Andy? What did you put for number one?

Craig Robinson? The answer is the what is it? Omnipresent? Carson Daly is the Carson Daly has been the host of the bois a very long time. He's not a coach. He just comes down and says, your song begins now. That's pretty much all he does and cheers off on the sidelines. Great Gig Carson Daley is the answer for number one. Question number two, Name the first ever African American heavyweight champion in boxing? Andy Wood hoping it is Jack Johnson, Sam Kavanaugh? What did you put? I put

Joe Lewis. The correct answer is Papa Jack Johnson. Papa Jack. I believe he won the title around nineteen ten, fourth of July of nineteen ten, when he beat the Great White Hope Jim Jeffries. Question number three, The Basilica de la Sagrada Familia is located in what city, mister Cavanaugh? Barcelona, Barthelas, Andy Wood? What did you put? Blaa? You

guys get two points for pronouncing the sea correctly, Barthelona. That's the famous basilica that's been under construction for a million years and will continue to be so forever. Question number four video game question. The four ghosts in the pac Man franchise were Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and who Andy. My advanced age might have given me an edge on this one. Clyde The Glide, Clyde the Glide? Sam? What did you put? I also put Clyde? Oh damn it. You guys are smart. It is wide Blinkie Pinky

inky and Clyde? Great? Is it? Miss? Background? Was Sue? That was that the fourth one? Sue? Maybe they replaced Clyde with Sue. Fantastic that. I thought that was a That was a tough one and you guys nailed it, So that's great. Question number five, James Duhan famously portrayed what character and chief engineer on the original Star Trek? Sam? Scotty? Andy? What did you put as well? Scotty Montgomery? Scotty Scott is your correct answer for number five. Question number six, Aman

is the capital of what country? Andy Wood? Eric Jordan? Sam Kavanaugh? What did you put? It is the mid East country of Jordan. Question number seven? What actor lost a ton of weight to portray the skeletal main character in the film The Machinist? Sam? Christian Bale? Christian Bale is your answer, Andy Wood? What did you put Christian Bale? As well? God, you guys are killing it. It is very famously Christian Bale. Where they said, like dude, you're skinny enough, and he

was like, no, no, no. The script says skeletal. So he ate like an apple a day for a month or two and got down really crazy skin and bones, very frightening. Question number eight on Sesame Street name the full bodied Muppet dog that piled around with Big Bird Andy. This was based on the whatever this is an educated guess, and I'm very much hoping it's Barkley. Barkley is your guest, Sam? What did you put? I think we have a similar theme guess because I put Dennis Rodman.

Yes, that is a great guess, the Worm. It was not the Worm or Dennis Rodman or Carmen Electra. It was Barkley the dog. And question number nine, what is the theme of this here? Theme round? And the double Duty Radcliffe Round? Sam Kavanaugh, what did you put for the theme? So? I have the Chicago Bulls slash basketball, so depended how to specific If you want to go, you can give it to me. You're nut fantastic, Andy Wood. What did you put? I went

specifically the dream team at the ninety two Olympics. The correct answer is the nineteen ninety two Dream team in Barcelona, Spain that had Chuck Daily, Johnson, Magic, Irvan Magic Johnson. Barcelona was the city they played in, Clyde the Glode, Drexler, Scottie Pippen, Michael Jordan, Christian Latner was the weird college person that they led on the team of all their other stars with Patrick Ewing and David Robinson and Larry Bird and Chris Mullen, John Stockton,

Carl Malone. Incredible team, the best of all time. And yeah, Charles Barkley. The theme we were going for is the nineteen ninety two Dream Team. So, Sam, you finished with thirty points and Andy, you've totally redeemed yourself. You are the smartest person in the world for one week with a grand total of thirty four. Walter Payton's number right up there, sweetness. Thirty four to thirty. What a hell of a game that was. That was fun, gentle, so fun. Yeah, great questions.

Good, I'm glad. I'm glad to hear that's It's always tough to like thread that needle of like, I don't want to be a dick, but I want it to be fun. So that was a well threaded needle. Okay, good, good, well rounded. You guys had fun again. We're gonna you're playing UM. We have Andy Wood here. You can follow him at Andy t Wood on Twitter and Instagram. He's playing for Against Malaria, great charity. Do you have any other connections to that charity or

why you picked it? Andy? It's really just um one of the highest recommended charities according to places like give well that are just about best bang for your buck. I don't have a direct connection to malaria, but it is a great cause where a little bit of money goes a long way and directly helps save lives. And it's in a simple fix tootting netting can prevent them while they sleep of not getting malaria. Fantastic charity. We're happy to give

a donation to them in your name as well as Unicorn Riot. Sam Kavanaugh is you can see him at Sam Underscore Kavanaugh on Twitter. He's playing for Unicorn Riot and again, tell tell the people what Unicorn Riot does. They send out reporters to places that are maybe underreported. So in a lot of the civil unrest in the George Floyd protests here, there's a lot of people in the ground there that really helped educate me of kind of what's going on,

and I think really help shine a light into some dark places. Fantastic. We're so excited to be giving to both of these charities. But the game is not over. We're heading to the final thing where I get to play against my heroes, my Tournament of Champions heroes, Me and Andy Wood get to go head to head in the final throwdown. The final throwdown. Now, what's going to happen is Annie, our producer, is going to share her screen and give a question. It could be anything that she came

up with. Andy, you get first DIBs to come up with an answer. I can either agree with you or come up with my own. But here we go, Annie, our producer. I've never seen this question. It could be anything, So let's let's see what it is and I will read it to you. Andy. Oh my gosh. Okay, here's the question. What is the best selling board game of all time? What is the best selling board game of all time? That sounds very simple, but it's not. Andy. I'll give you a few seconds to come up with

your guests. I've got a top three, and I'm hoping that this game's internationality. I hope it's Clue Slash Cluto. Oh man, this is tough, because yeah, I have a thousand. I love board games and they're all flying through my head right now. I don't think it's payday or go to the head of the class or Hi, ho cherio. Could it be Pizza Party? Remember Pizza Party? I do remember Pizza Party. Hmm.

A game that anyone could be best selling board game of all times. I want to you know, Monopoly is always right there, but I don't want to say Monopoly. I'm going to go with Scrabble, a game that most people can play. I'm gonna go with Scrabble. So Producer Annie reveal our answer. We have what was your What was your guess? Mine was clue. Clue and Scrabble were our guesses. Here is our answer. We're gonna learn a little bit about what it is. Oh, okay, horse the

correct answer. We were both wrong. It is chess that is considered a board game. And here is a little info about chess. There are three million units sold annually, three million chess boards sold yearly. It dates back to twelve hundred a d. The folding chessboard was invented by a priest trying to hide his gameplay. Did not know that that's awesome. You're going to hell. Padre and the cast from Queen's Gambit memorized and played all moves.

Wow. So we learned a little bit about chess. Of course, it's chess. Son of a gun, Andy, would you remain the smartest person in the world for one See, we had a good time. It was great to have a nice little Jeopardy reunion and talk about our favorite show and why it's the greatest thing of all time. But so happy to see you guys.
